He did MUCH better on Viennesse Waltz, very classy.

Squid Shark on September 21, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Probably not a bad move on his part. The left made him into a boogie man, and I think this sort of thing will work against that narrative…

You don’t think they’ll just insert a comma and make him a boogie, man?

The judge at the end just had to get a Sarah stab in there ….”YOU’RE CRAZIER THAN SARAH PALIN!”

Jeeeez, they just can’t stop talking about her!

seaplanes on September 21, 2009 at 9:59 PM

Wouldn’t watch this show if my sister was on it. But saw a clip of Cloris Leachman last season waddling through a number and then getting on her knees with hands praying in front of each judge and I howled.

Marcus on September 21, 2009 at 9:59 PM

This is why we need to pick the next GOP leader VERY carefully.

There are more Tom Delay’s out there. They are stealthy, in the closet … they don’t have a sign around their neck saying “Yeah I’ve got issues pick someone else”.

Be very careful.

OT: But there is a major crisis brewing in Honduras tonite.

The lights have gone out (been cut? sabotaged?)to large parts of Tegucigalpa tonight as Zelaya whips his supporters into a frenzy from the Brazilian Embassy. The Hondurans have demanded that Brazil turn Zelaya over to face criminal charges. The Honduran government has said that if Zelaya steps outside the Embassy he will be arrested immediately.

Many nations are worried about violence and hope Zelaya will not be harmed. Chavez and Hilary Clinton have called for Honduras to surrender to Zelaya. The Honduran military legislature, and Supreme Court have reiterated their support of the Honduran Constitution. Chavez has said his Bolovarian alliance will be pressuring the Hondurans. Zelaya is fomenting violence.

He has more balls than me, but no shame.

Vigilante on September 21, 2009 at 10:46 PM

“and we have been watching it for weeks”

But, for weeks, nothing much has happened. Now, tonight, something has. If, in fact, we all knew it was coming, it might be worth noting that tonight it has. I mean, we all knew the war in Iraq was coming for weeks, but the night it started, it was still worth mentioning, at least.

Zelaya and Lula and Hillary have forced Honduras’ hand. That’s called news. What “we” can do is at least note it, read about it, keep up on it — certainly it’s more newsworthy and interesting and than yet another fomerly serious Republican pol making an ass out of himself on a reality show.

He has his problems, but I’ve never forgotten his chops when that idiot DA indicted him. The dems were all lathered up for a classic “mugshot,” and the guy went in there, gave the photographer a cheesy grin and ruined their plans.

DWTS- maybe not. But, whatever.

I hear DeLay’s now negotiating a contract for an E.D. ad.

Bob Dole was a razor-sharp, no-nonsense conservative, afraid of nothing, back in the ’70s. Look what happened to him.

DeLay seems to be displaying the early symptoms of Dole Disease. I hope I’m wrong.

notropis on September 22, 2009 at 12:06 AM

Cool. My favorite Cha-Cha song is the “What is Love?” Rappion mix.

Viennese Waltz is pretty fast for me though. Definitely not a dance for beginners.

Sapwolf on September 22, 2009 at 12:17 AM

Start the trend and you will see Pelosi and Maxine Waters coming on the show.

bayview on September 22, 2009 at 12:17 AM

Tom Delay is worried about embarrassing himself dancing. The guy embarrassed himself as a member of congress never-mind the dancing.

His partner is really hot though. I wonder if we’ll see a John Edwards scandal in the making.

So you held out until six minutes before the show ended? You have a low threshold for filtering out dreck. ABC, the All Barak Channel, won’t let Delay stay on long.

highhopes on September 22, 2009 at 7:50 AM

Perfect example of how Hollywood has Obama talking points at the ready. The WashPo’s write-up of Delay’s appearance was probably prepped weeks ago before Delay even appeared on this show. Smarmy, condescending, and snide – he could have danced like Fred Astaire and they still would have trashed him. Delay should have known better, too. And the judges, too. Couldn’t wait to get their digs in at Sarah Palin. The republicans should try to be as catty as liberal democrats – every other word out of their mouths for the past 8 years was something derogatory about Prez Bush or a republican. It’s like their mantra when they wake up to bash a republican even when talking about the weather.

mozalf on September 22, 2009 at 7:57 AM

Loved DeLay’s line, “Vote like a republican, party like a democrat.”

The choice of music was inspired. “Wild Thing?” Can’t beat that with a stick! I hope he’ll get to play against type throughout his tenure on the show.

DuffBeer on September 22, 2009 at 8:46 AM

The county I live in was told back in 2003 if they wanted to secure a contract to house U.S. Bureau of Prisons inmates, it would be helpful to pay Tom DeLay’s brother, Randy, $120,000 year as a “consultant”.

So “Cheat like a Democrat, party like a Democrat” would be more appropriate, since DeLay is as responsible as anyone for why the House Republicans lost their way after 1994 and simply became Democrats lite when it came to spending and corruption in Congress. If he fell off the stage while dancing, I wouldn’t shed a tear.

jon1979 on September 22, 2009 at 9:19 AM

Is he even married? I can’t see his wife letting him practice on television in those pants!!

Hello…Steve Urkel

Sure he was having fun and what they hey…why not. But it was painful to watch, especially when he said “I have to get prissy”.

I’m rooting for the Ice Man even though he has as much chance of winning as DeLay.

NYconservative on September 22, 2009 at 9:23 AM

You know he’s going to make it to the top 3. As long as republicans can vote to keep him there he’ll be there. Actually, for an old guy, he didn’t do too badly.

kens on September 22, 2009 at 9:37 AM

Hey,, Delay is a great man. The guy needs a little money to pay off his legal bills. And if he has a little fun doing it, God bless him.
Delay wasn’t just attacked by Dems, he was sold out by his own party.
