Obama to Letterman on racism: “I was actually black before the election”

posted at 8:01 pm on September 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

A sneak preview of tonight’s heart-on-the-sleeve backslapping; skip ahead to 2:08 for the key exchange. Probably The One’s best statement to date in distancing himself from the left’s racial demagoguery — especially his reminder that the country did, after all, elect him president — but, as usual, there’s no teeth in it. His point about other presidents having faced populist demagoguery, especially in times of economic upheaval, is well taken (although Kaus’s analysis is more trenchant), but where’s the reprimand for the many, many leftist bottom-feeders who stooped to racial accusations in lieu of a moment’s thought? For a guy who fancies himself above the fray and eager to start a national conversation on race — or so he (disingenuously) claimed in the famous speech about Rev. Wright — he’s awfully shy about seizing the opportunity to set the ground rules.

Update: One further thought on heart-on-the-sleeve Dave: How fitting that a guy whose comedy so often seems so passe would wait until there’s a Democrat in the White House to embrace his liberalism fully. The money and ratings are in opposing the president, not defending him, chump. Ask Jon Stewart and Keith Olbermann.

populist demagoguery,

What demagoguery would that be?

OT: Where in the world are you finding bumbleberry pie???

Thought that would get a response ! lol

We went to a fall arts, crafts and bakery show, and there is a pastry booth we go to get those “rare” hard-to-find pies. Delicious . Could have used some Cool Whip though!

Obama could save up everyone he’s been throwing under the bus, and they could throw them off the roof instead — or bring a whole sheaf of new lame talking points and play “will they float.”

notropis on September 21, 2009 at 9:11 PM

Dave,

Sorry, buddy. You’re not cool, anymore. You aren’t funny. You are simply the crabby old guy that the kids on the block imitate and wonder if he is senile.

Keep Recover your dignity. Retire.

Star20 on September 21, 2009 at 9:12 PM

I would like to go on the record by saying…I distrust the White part of Barack Obama as much as I distrust the Black part of him.
I hope that clears things up.

milwife88 on September 21, 2009 at 9:12 PM

But he’s not as bad as McCain, right? Yay, Glenn Beck!!

Allahpundit on September 21, 2009 at 8:07 PM

It depends completely on how sucessful he (Obama) is. If he fails to get health care, cap&trade, student loan, amnesty passed, then yes, McCain might have been worse in the long run. A big-picture situation.
Small picture: we go through hell with this Marxist, but it makes independants and moderates shake the cobwebs out of their eyes and vote in the GOP. (Hopefully, they had the cobwebs shaken out of THEIR eyes so they don’t blow it again)

Had McCain been elected, except for militarilly (big exception, I know) how much would really have been different? He’s talking now much more conservatively than he did even when he trying (and failing) to look “Republican” enough for us. And great! People still are saying that conservatism failed because of Bush. You can’t argue with them that Bush wasn’t a real conservative (again except militarilly) and when McCain would have made things worse they would have argued even more strongly how bad conservatism and capitalism fails despite McCain being supportive (truly) of neither.

Person to person comparison, McCain would be better to have in charge.

Long term goal, Obama’s much better to have in charge.

In other words, as those of us who were unhappy with McCain as a choice have been saying all along, why go with a Democrat with an (R) after his name when you can go with a Democrat. I just don’t think many of us expected Obama to try and overreach this far, this quickly, and it may even wind up paying off in 2010 at least.

Sorry for the lengthy post, and somewhat OT, but you hijacked your own thread, so I don’t feel guilty about it, lol.

I’m going to give Obama a pass here, although I view him as having started the whole race thing before the election with his veiled accusations against John McCain. If others on the left choose to play the race card, then Obama is not responsible.

To put it in a more personal light, neither Allah nor Ed, nor any other commenter on this site, is responsible for what Kilgore Trout did other than KT himself.

That said, had Ed or Allah failed to act, they would have borne secondary responsibility for seemingly endorsing KT’s rants, because Ed and Allah ultimately own the press upon which KT published his screeds.

Conversely, the media and our country’s press are not owned by Obama (yet). Therefore, I can’t expect Obama to police them, and would be extremely upset if he did; look what happens when his guys try to manage the Fox news cycle…

I expect him to police himself, and, although he didn’t do well during the campaign, he’s doing well enough now.

unclesmrgol on September 21, 2009 at 10:06 PM

It’s a white lie for Zero to claim he was black before the election.

Letterman must have missed a career chance to advise prospective hookers for ACORN because there’s little difference between that and his willingness to service Obambi.

I used to like Letterman – i still think he is one of a kind… but his ugliness and partisanship has come out it in a way that is truly sad..

Havent watched him in the last 18 months – i didnt even click on this clip – and never will.

I have a new found appreciation for Jay Leno – atleast he knows how to not openly show his partisanship and offend his viewers… and this is a guy who did a lot of Bush is dumb jokes – i never saw him cross the line like Letterman has.

Obama is very relaxed and personable on TV. He should follow his calling and become a talk show host and leave the governing of our country to some adults.

Weird, but it just struck me. The ad with the flying sledge hammer wielding “emperor has no clothes” vigilant, threw the hammer through the TV to break the people’s trance. (was that apple?). We just need to destroy the teleprompter…

You guys do realize you are charged with being THE free and open press now, right? Hotair, drudge, American Thinker, etc. These are our newspapers of this century. You have a charge to keep. Wow. Simply wow. I had to stop the video after hearing Letterman’s band play “Hail to the Chief” when Obama came onstage. What a sick joke on our country.

INTELLECTUAL EXERCISE –

Suppose Sarah Palin did an on air interview with Don Imus? What would the repurcussions be???

Compare and contrast a hypothetical Imus-Palin interview with the real Letterman-Obama interview. Please keep in mind that Letterman

1. Referredd to Palin as a ‘slut’
2. Made leering gap toothed jokes about Sarah Palin’s 14 year old daughter screwing an old guy
3. Followed up the next day with another hilarious joke again about Palin’s 14 year old daughter being a prostitute.

Keep in mind, for extra credit, that Imus made an immediate and sincere apology while the drooling dotard took 3 days to make a laughably insincere ‘apology’. Further keep in mind that Imus was fired while Davey the Lolita Lover is still on the airwaves

So, you obama sycophant trolls… Care to try this one?? Thought not.

bullseye on September 22, 2009 at 9:32 AM

Never watch Letterman..stopped being funny forever ago and just as irrelevant. He can have the 0 on as many times as he wants. As for 0, he was also a douche before he was president and wouldnt be prez if the media hadnt hidden everything about him. The media is still carrying his water because if they told the truth he would be powerless.

And you were a communist before you were president.

The hell? One sixth? Dude, it’s impossible to get a three into the denominator, unless you’re alleging that he’s some kind of hybrid with a non-human outer-space-alien race that has three parental genetic contributors for new embryos.

It’s always a power of two. Always. You can be half, or some number of quarters something, or some number of eighths, or sixteenths, and so on. Those are your choices.

Anything else is pure ignorance.

Mea Culpa for providing a couple of nits for picking. I stand corrected. The conventional wisdom is that Obama is actually one eighth black, one half white and the rest Arabic.

Anyway you cut it, he is not even honest about his lineage and names. That seems to remind me of some guy from the Shicklegruber family a while back.

I had a feeling that when Jimmy Carter came out with all the racist crap that this was just to help set Obama up for deprecating moment such as this.

IF any of you knew what you were talking about, you would know that Letterman fawns all over his big star guests, not just Obama.

It can get quite nauseating. But, you would have to actually watch his show to know these things.
