Oh my: Steele plays the race card on Obama over Paterson

posted at 5:33 pm on September 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

Comedy gold from the RNC chairman, cheekily borrowing Alinsky Rule 4 to rub the left’s face in its own bottom-feeding racial demagoguery. His argument’s absurd, of course, and deliberately so: Imagine believing that Obama hates black people … when we all know it’s blind people that he really hates.

Paterson responded this afternoon to the The One’s nudge by kinda sorta telling him to get bent. Exit question: Is Paterson racist?

This race card stuff really bothers me… even when our guys are doing it… when you watch that video doesn’t it make you cringe a bit? It does for me.

painfulTruthDisciple on September 20, 2009 at 9:00 PM

lovingmyUSA, as Seven Percent Solution pointed out earlier… I’m guessing something rude or out of line was commented about. I trust Ed or AP made the decision they thought was appropriate.

“We’ll be watching the thread, as will our many valued regulars. Ignore Ed’s advice at your peril.”

It’s always painful when hypocrits have their own words thrown back at them. I think Steele was right to show this…

Good Lord, give it a rest people. Jeff, you know damned well that KT hijacked the thread, made some incredibly unacceptable comments. No argument there. NOT OK.
Sven, by his own admission, pushed the envelope – READ his comments at Ace.

This blog is paid for by MM – ALL they are asking is that you use common sense, don’t post racist comments and act like a grown up.

There is SOOO much to learn here and so many of the comments are SO very insightful. I learn something EVERY DAY. I don’t post much, but I read it constantly. This is like a little family. It doesn’t need to be reduced to juvenile comments about how someone is too fat, or their belt is ugly, or whatever. C’mon. This is totally ridiculous.

3. out-of-control

Oh, you give it a rest! I’m sick of the MSM telling me that MO is some kind of fashion icon when her clothing is often horrible and inappropriate. She’s an embarrassment. And I don’t want squishes telling me that Chubs McCain is the new voice of the GOP when she is dumb as a rock, talks mostly about her boobs and tattoos, often looks like grandma in a potato sack, and is always bashing conservatives. Again, she is the one who makes her looks an issue. As long as she and others keep telling me she’s hot I’m going to keep telling them she’s not.

I read the thread in question. The only person who posted racist comments was Kilgore Trout and more than likely was put up to it by Chuckles from LGF. It was a planned attack.

The members of HA, on the other hand, tried really hard to blow the guy off. AP had warned everyone months ago about not calling Michelle Obama “certain names”. Almost everyone complied, or at least I did.

You can find the offensive post over at Ace’s somewhere.

Geochelone on September 20, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Steele isn’t being disingenous. In fact, he knows he can’t say all of what this is, so I will:

Axelrod doesn’t want the race card played so often people will see through the ploy. Paterson well observed the tactics of Axelrod that got Obama elected, and hopes to use these to win the primary. This is about Obama in 2012.

Steele knows better than to spell it right out.

I read ALL of your comments and DON’T disagree with them. I just don’t want to see our blog reduced to stupid drivel. That’s all. I don’t have an argument with you!

mimi1220 on September 20, 2009 at 9:33 PM

There is still a long haul a head of us, however, make no mistake about it: Obama and his gangsters and his party of racists are on their way out of power. They know it so expect more sleazy attacks. In fact, they were talking about attacking MM personally over at LGF, so expect the possibility of something happening.

On policy, heathcare, the economy, and defense – they got nothing. All they have are false accusations of racism.

Numinous Nomination
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MjY0NWVmYWM3YzMyNzJiMzBkNjBjZjFhMDdlODllNDM=

It all brings to mind Richard Brookhiser’s wonderfully accurate term, “The Numinous Negro” (I couldn’t get a link to his essay, but here’s a column by Jonah talking about it).

If you recall, the “Numinous Negro” is a construction, often by white liberals, of a near-divine, never-wrong, completely non-threatening black person (usually a man). It’s essentially the whole reason behind most of the characters played by Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, every law movie ever set in the South with a white lawyer and a black client, etc. The Numinous Negro isn’t a black man— he’s a plot device to make the white characters look better for having listened to them, cared for them, patronized them.

So. . . can we have the Numinous Conservative now? Unfortunately not as elegantly alliterative as Brookhiser’s phrase, but I believe it’s just as useful. It captures all of the “conservatives” who don’t really exist in the real world outside of Washington restaurants or New York op-ed pages. You know, the ones who aren’t crazy, who display the required level of disdain for “teabaggers,” Southerners, Christians, Sarah Palin, etc. Liberals can point to these people as the “smart and acceptable” conservatives who just so happen to think exactly like they do.

I’ll leave it the Corner to populate that list with their favorite Numinous Conservatives. After the last year, we have plenty of choices. . .

Kilgore Trout didn’t nor does he need help from anyone. He reported me when I disagreed with CJ and himself. I left because I got tired of having to tread on eggshells when trying to make a point. It’s like a CJ cult over there with Kilgore Trout stalking the threads to ensure the ‘group’ doesn’t stray.

I watched one of my favorite films this evening, To Kill a Mockingbird, and it made this current stupid willy-nilly race card-throwing saga seem all the more ridiculous and twisted. Gain some perspective.

KellyBomelly on September 21, 2009 at 1:56 AM

As former Detroit Mayor Coleman Young made clear in his administration that there can only be one HMFIC in any organization. Hizzoner in fact had a plaque on his desk emblazoned with that acronym. Off the record, Young used a more racially charged version, HNIC, that dates to the slavery era when slaves were separated into two castes, the field slaves and the house slaves.

There can only be one HMFIC. Obama cut his political teeth in Chicago. An earlier Chicago ‘community organizer, Al Capone, is said to have favored using baseball bats to dispatch subordinates. Obama prefers tossing them under the bus, in this case with leaks to friendly MSM journalists that damages Patterson’s campaign.

rokemronnie on September 21, 2009 at 2:08 AM

Now THAT’S an effective play of the race card.

BOB SCHIEFFER: Well, you don’t think he’s asked him not to run because he’s black?

Bob was stunned. That was great eliciting that reaction to what appeared to be a bit of an off topic question. It was definitely not a topic Steele was looking to comment on had he not been asked.

He not only generated buzz, he put the spotlight on what happens next. Walk back, defiance by Paterson or caving into the request. In any case – it doesn’t help Zero or the Democrats.

The amount of simpering being done here under the guise of “I love this site BUT all your juvenile non-serious remarks are interferring with my impression that HA is not a blog visited by many people with differing levels of interest and differing opinions of how to deal with what they think is a problem in the WH” is way beyond tiresome.

It’s reasonable to expect that a site will not allow posts supporting racism or violence. But whining about people “not being nice” is just as grade school as snarking about MO’s lack of fashion sense.

I’m from MD, and loved Steele as Lt. Gov. Then, when he became RNC chair? He dragged out of the chutes like his feet were encased in cement and he wasn’t allowed a sense of humor, much less to display an intelligence or wit. It is refreshing to see him back on track! Guy’s funny, and has taken their little race game and turned it upside down on them. This is the Michael Steele I hoped to see!

I don’t think such comments hurt Steele or the Republicans (tho am independent, myself). It’s the principles that are important, and being able to present and sell them to more than one group of folks. IMHO.

Color me disappointed… I was hoping to see Steele go for the throat on that one. ‘Sure seems racially motivated to me’, or ‘Of course Obama’s a racist, this is obviously his white half’s prejudiced nature seeping out for all to see’.
-
The problem is that Steele doesn’t know how to play the race card to it’s maximum effect. It needs to be slapped down on the table like a challenge. Ask Sharpton or Jackson. They will tell you, play it loud and proud. Leave no doubt and demand apology (and payment).
-
Most importantly, always remember that it’s not the weight of the evidence that matters, but the nature of the charge.
