Obama’s solution on illegals and health care? Amnesty; Update: Video added

posted at 9:29 am on September 18, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Washington Times reports that Barack Obama has finally concluded that Joe Wilson was right, and that ObamaCare presents a big problem in handling illegal immigrants.  Fortunately, the White House has found a solution to the problem.  No, they’re not going to beef up enforcement or require identification before receiving subsidies and services.  They’re just going to offer amnesty so that no one’s illegal anymore:

President Obama said this week that his health care plan won’t cover illegal immigrants, but argued that’s all the more reason to legalize them and ensure they eventually do get coverage.

He also staked out a position that anyone in the country legally should be covered – a major break with the 1996 welfare reform bill, which limited most federal public assistance programs only to citizens and longtime immigrants.

“Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don’t simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken,” Mr. Obama said Wednesday evening in a speech to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. “That’s why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.

Mr. Obama added, “If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all.”

Republicans said that amounts to an amnesty, calling it a backdoor effort to make sure current illegal immigrants get health care.

In other words, not only should everyone pay for Americans to get health care, we should pay for health care for those who came here illegally.  That’s going to be a winning argument in 2010, especially in Blue Dog districts!  We’re going to bust the budget and infringe on your personal choices, and we’re going to make you pay for insurance for illegal immigrants!

If a Republican had run an ad making those charges in 2008, the media would have called it a “smear”.  If comedians used it in their act, it would have been a joke about GOP paranoia.  The joke, unfortunately, is on those who voted for the Blue Dogs because of their supposed conservatism, and on those who voted for Obama because of his supposed centrism.

You just can’t leave it alone…the Irish loved this country, the Jews loved this country, the Asians loved this country, the Italians loved this country, most every group has, within a generation or two, assimilated and loved this country. Embraced it for what it is, where have you seen “La Corsa” from the Italians.
These groups didn’t come here for a “free” ride, they came here to build an America…not a “La Raza” among them. Prideful of their heritage, but proud to be an American. You do a great disservice for the men and women who honestly, and legally sacrifice to enter this country, and participate.
Hispanics have a duty to enter legally, just like the millions of immigrants before them.

LAND MINES! We need land mines along the border. After the first dozen or so illegal immigrants are blown to smithereens, the others will catch on and think twice about coming here without going through the proper channels.

Ya know…I was never this nasty, vindictive and blood thirsty before 2009. I blame it all on Barry.

Barb Dwyer on September 18, 2009 at 12:19 PM

I see immigrants from my neck of the woods and elsewhere and they simply do not assimilate and do not even love this country but USE IT. Many actually hate this country. I have heard it personally and I am disgusted.

David J. Stoddard, 27 year veteran of the Border Patrol said -

“Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans want to remain citizens of their home country while obtaining the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I, Mexico allowed German spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S.. During World War II, Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today, Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don’t believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their choolchildren.”

The Strange Case of Professor Obama and Herr Hussein is a real life drama playing out in the aftermath of the Presidential election of 2008. It is about the dilemma of the American citizen who sees strange dissonances between the new found Messiah, Professor Obama, and the ever more emerging misanthropic, pyromaniac (reference note #1) Herr Hussein. It is a vivid portrayal of a split personality, split in the sense that within the same person there is, or was, both an apparently good and an ever more emerging evil personality each being quite distinct from the other. In mainstream culture the very phrase “Obama and Hussien” will come to mean a person who’s words are vastly different in moral character from his actions.
Reference note #1: Such individuals who lack ulterior motive have traditionally been referred to in layman’s terms simply as a variation of a pyromaniac. Most such maniacs lack conscious motivation although they are fully aware of the acts they are failing to stop or they themselves are committing. Typically they will feel intense pleasure, gratification, or relief when causing destruction or when witnessing or participating in the aftermath. Motivation is also classified as pathological and non-pathological. Some research suggests that feeling such joy at horrific situation is pathological. Other research suggests that some motivation for this comes from rational thought. Taking joy in horrific situations for envisioned gains in political power and/or the concealment of the imposition of devious plans are examples of supposed rational decision making.

Where I live, anyone who has any connection with state services knew that Obama was lying. A cousin of mine works for an early-intervention agency that helps infants who have developmental disabilities, and she is not allowed to ask the parents or other relatives if they are legal residents. She must assume that the baby was born here, and is therefore a resident, even though the family may just have arrived in America. So, Mr. Obama, how can agencies avoid giving away tons of services to illegal aliens if they aren’t allowed to identify them????????

Now we know — he’ll just get rid of illegal aliens by making them citizens. What a country.

The reason that Republican supporters of “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” want it is so that they and/or their campaign contributors can have serf labor. They would probably prefer actual out-and-out slaves but that is illegal.

The reason that shamnesty Democrats want this is so that those who are now illegal can become legal and vote for them. Many of them probably also want to do this for the same reason that shamnesty Republicans do.

Does anyone think that many of these shamnesty politicians really care one wit otherwise for the illegals.

Does anyone think that any of the shamnesty politicians are going to invite these Mexican Indios and Mezclados to join their elite/exclusive golf clubs?

Come to live in their gated communities, other than as servants?

Invite them to their yachts, other than as low paid deck hands and/or servants?

Invite them to their cocktail parties?

Introduce them to their daughters?

The big majority of the Mexicans who have come here/will come here are Indios and Mezclados, not the Spanish descendant light-skinned ruling class of Mexico. This is a form of ethnic cleansing by Mexico’s ruling class.

So the shamnesty politicians like Barack Obama and John McCain are aiding and abetting and facilitating ethnic cleansing.

If the U.N. were not such a joke, they would all be standing trial for trying to reintroduce a form of latter-day-slavery in the United States and for the mass ethnic cleansing of Mexico.

Okay, in less than 45 seconds:
1. I googled families USA
2. Went to their web page
3. Clicked on “About Us”
4. Looked on the right of the page, at their board of directors.

They include people affiliated with:

Common Cause
SEIU
National Immigraton Forum

Now, in less time than it took me to type this, I can infer that they are in fact, supportive of ‘health care reform’ as it is currently being foisted on us.

Therefore, all of their ‘numbers’ are suspect.
As are their fore-ordained conclusions about the efficacy of tort-reform in Texas.

Done.

The rise in the cost in healthcare costs couldn’t have anything to do with our absorbing the development cost of drugs, new and elaborate proceedures, better care for the chronically ill, constantly improving facilities and taking care of every foreigner who can buy a plane ticket or take a walk. We don’t even need to consider the ambulance chasing, millionaire lawyers. How about $30K to cure a noncitizen of TB? How about pregnant, wise, Latino ladies landing on layover at Dulles and claiming that contractions have started? Then she deplanes with seven realtives.

We have to fight this because Obama cannot be allowed to take ownership of immigration reform in the US.

For good or ill, the last two serious amnesty attempts in the US had been conceived and supported by Republicans. The successful one being Reagan’s and more recently George Bush. I know a lot of folks around here are skeptical or outright hostile against comprehensive immigration reform or even pathways to citizenship for illegal immigrants, but the lift in hispanic support after both those attempts had been undeniable.

But despite all that and despite how you may or may not support comprehensive immigration reform (I personally support a pathway to citizenship), we CANNOT allow Obama to take ownership of an amnesty agenda or even allow it to gain legs or we would lose an entire demographic bloc for a generation. We lost substantial support from hispanics in 2008 and we’re bound to see some dramatic losses in that demographic in 2010 whether or not he proposes it but if he wins (or if he even LOOKS like a martyr for an amnesty cause) we’d be looking at disaster.

How we oppose “Obamamnesty” without looking like we’re oppressing hispanics is the question.

One lesson from the healthcare debate that the GOP needs to learn really soon is that we need to put OUR ideas and OUR proposals up front and pre-empt any socialist incrementalism that Pelosi/Waxman has in store. Unless we lay the groundwork ahead of democrats, our message and our ideas will be lost and we get portrayed as the party of no.

Instead we needed to put our plans on the ground first… we should’ve had a tax-cut, high-growth, short-term stimulus plan out of the gate FIRST before they crapped out that stimulus plan. We should’ve had our nuclear and offshore-drilling energy policy plan out FIRST before cap-and-trade got sold as the “only” way to energy independence. We should’ve had our healthcare plans based on health savings accounts and tort reform BEFORE HR3200 was portrayed as “the only plan”.

Likewise we need to preempt Obamamnesty with a sensible, effective, growth-based immigration reform plan that respects immigrants who are eager to be productive members of our economy, strengthens the rule of law, and protects the interests of American workers. We have to air it and get eyes on it BEFORE Obama comes riding on his white horse looking like the savior he’s always portraying himself to be, and we have to get HIM out on the open opposing immigration reform instead.

The problem is, the Irish, Italians & Jews are voting Democrat.

Jeff from WI on September 18, 2009 at 1:10 PM

I’m not convinced this is anywhere close to accurate, even for a stereotype. Most Irish Catholics I know have gone GOP. Same with Italian Catholics. And many, many articles have been written about tthe difference in voting patterns between older and younger Jews, although I don’t really even think of Jewish people as being immigrants (they are usually Russian or German or some other nationality).

Even the Orthodox Jews lament the other Jews for being so liberal. As for the Italians & Irish, let’s stop for a minute. The Irish in America got heavily into labor unions & politics. That’s DEMOCRAT politics. This has been true since the early 20th century. The Italians got in a bit later, but they played both sides of the fence as politicians, and of course, organized crime, which leads us back to the Irish and the labor unions. As for being Catholics, the American Catholic Church has become a joke compared to the church prior to 1960. It has filled it’s seminaries with left wing wackos as priests, or deviants, BOTH of which will vote Democrat. As far as the typical Mass going Catholic today, they’re just as apt to vote Democrat for the “helping the poor & illegals” pablum they get from the lefty priests as vote GOP for anti-abortion reasons.

Jeff from WI on September 18, 2009 at 1:49 PM

We KNEW this was coming. Of course they have to “legalize” the illegals for health care reform. How else can they justify spending taxpayer dollars helping 15 to 18 MILLION people get free health care at our expense?

We need to double the march on Washington to get this one stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Obama this tone deaf? Does he harbor a political death wish?

The real danger of The One is the way he uses tricky wording.

That one minute video sums up what the country is figuring out, he lies. Check out the slight of hand from his mouth in that video.
We can debate what a lie is but mis-truths, and misdirection is lying.

The speed of his downward trajectory is shocking, even to those of us that were suspicious of him to begin with.

Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the

world wants to be a U.S.

Yeah maybe because CA has 40% of illegal Mexicans in the USA, but that’s the NORM out here. In your face, ‘the border is racist’, and Washington doesn’t have the authority to dictate to the “community” where it can live and how it can earn.

If Americans went into Mexico, marched in the street, masked, waving the Stars and Stripes, demanding to be heard…we wouldn’t be deported, we’d be shot dead.

what Eisenhower did WORKED…too bad we don’t have the guts he did….but then we’re not the country, or the people, we used to be…

right4life on September 18, 2009 at 1:35 PM

So true…in Abe Lincoln’s day when the federal government wouldn’t or couldn’t patrol the frontier, armed men mustered at town hall and formed a regiment of militia and did for themselves.

For him or others? I suspect he plans on asking the ultimate sacrifice from some politicians to force this through on a purely partisan basis. He needs a win here too much to let Obamacare fail and there doesn’t seem to be any way to reconcile public outrage with what is needed to pass this legislation.

Eisenhower also called it “Operation Wetback” and alongside McCarthyism and the Fairness Doctrine (yep, the Fairness Doctrine was originally conceived by the GOP to punish liberal commentators, it was first used in response to negative commentary against Barry Goldwater in fact) it was one of the human rights issues that contributed to Kennedy’s extremely narrow win in 1960.

Furthermore, Eisenhower’s “dynamic conservatism” was little more than an expansion of FDR’s New Deal socialism. Worse, he managed to cobble together a cold war military-industrial buildup that depended on the revenues drawn from extending the extraordinary tax levees that supported WW2 and Korea well into peacetime. The same tax regimes that we deal with to this day.

It doesn’t help that he whined about the frankenstein monster he created during his farewell address either.

Not really shocking because it was inevitable. There is no way the reality of a man who has to erect fake Greek temples, create fake “Presidential seals,” and operate out of “The Office of the President-elect” can live up to the hype of being Christ returned to walk among us. Particularly when the man is a Chicago street thug.

The evidence, even now, is very clear about illegal immigration–they self deport when there are no jobs. Sure they hang on as long as possible but they do leave. Current estimates suggest well over a million having left since the economic slowdown started in 2007.

It is this reason we have never seen concerted job place crack downs, ID checks etc. Even open border advocates know that proving citizenship at the job would cause most illegals to return home. Only the criminal class would stay. That’s why, among other reasons, we need a fence to keep out the forcibly deported. They never came here looking for a job in the first place. The real onslaught in illegal immigration is coming sometime in the next ten years when Mexico’s domestic infrastructure collapses with their oil industry. Currently the State owned oil exports provide 65% of all domestic spending. Without job place ID checks and a fence there will be a tsunami of illegals crossing the border.

The main problem, as I mentioned in an earlier post, is the voting block they represent if given citizenship. Dems know this and they mean to have it.

Wow! Chairman Maobama’s gonna get the peasants all wee-wee’ed up with talk of amnesty so early in his rule!

This country’s in for a REAL rough ride, and so is the Chairman: Cap & Trade, disarming the Euro missile defenses, capitulating to Russia, Iran, a $787 billion porkulus pkg used to pay off campaign iou’s, trying to ram Teddyscare down our collective throats, Acorn/child prostitution & tax dodging schemes….

The times they are a changin’!

Can we impeach this Commie SOB, or would that be racist?

I espouse emergency care for anyone who needs it right now. I espouse changing the law that being born here makes you an American. I espouse picking up every illegal I find and send them back, no to the border, but to the Yucatan.

Hell, I’d take a free trip to Cancun and I was born here.

Thanks to Obama and his magical wand. He’ll fix it… (or should I say mess it up.

At lease spell check has the right Idea and still has not added his name.

I hope we can erase him from our history books all together.

I think this will go over about as well as nationalizing health care has.

BTW, I can’t find the link now, but I read somewhere that a lot of those 12 million people have left because of the economy and more deportations, etc. And a lot fewer are coming in too.
