New secret weapon in selling ObamaCare: Michelle Obama

posted at 9:31 pm on September 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

Why not? The One’s out of ammo and the Democrats’ hyper-negative racial campaigning has failed epically. Might as well hand the ball off to Mrs. O and see if she can “mom” America into supporting this craptastic boondoggle. Imagine the media coverage. Three tips to raising a healthy child: Plenty of exercise, lots of vegetables, and blowing a trillion dollars on a universal health care plan that’ll still be bleeding red ink when the Obama girls are grandmothers.

The bad news: This means lots, lots more stories on how to get toned arms. The good news: There’s a fair chance of a “I won’t be proud of my country unless we pass ObamaCare” moment, which means rich, tasty right-wing blog content for weeks on end.

For the health care reform push, which got something of a reboot last week with President Barack Obama’s address to Congress, the aim is for the first lady’s imprimatur to put a friendly face and a noncontroversial spin on a complex, highly partisan issue.

She won’t get into the weeds on health care, pushing specific details or plans as Clinton did. Instead, she’ll make the soft, soccer-mom sell, highlighting the need to eat healthy, exercise and get preventive care. On Friday, Michelle Obama will appear at an event where women and families will talk about the health care system, and she will deliver remarks that will “amplify the president’s message on the need for health insurance reform,” according to the White House…

“Women are the swing voters on health care, and they are the people who pay most attention to health care for their families,” said Richard Kirsch, national campaign manager for Health Care for America Now, a coalition of community, labor and health care provider groups. “Having Michelle Obama as a spokesperson on health care makes a tremendous difference in terms of having women understand what the president’s plan will mean for families. It takes it from the policy to the personal.”

Consider yourselves lucky. Given the left’s penchant for using kids to push their policies, if M.O. fails it’s only a matter of time before Democratic spin doctors unleash an army of precious moppets to drop an atomic guilt bomb. Remember the scene in “Wag the Dog” with the girl and the calico kitten? Dude, it’s coming.

It isn’t racist. Just like the Socialism isn’t racist. And yelling “You Lie” isn’t racist either.

They are not very bright and they do not have an argument for their flawed plans so they call you a racist.

It is the political left’s equivalent of “I know you are but what am I?”

It would be funny if it weren’t so sad that so many blindly follow a philosophy they cannot even defend.

d1carter on September 18, 2009 at 1:55 AM

Umm, yeah.

Since CJ has gone hard left and nutso, he’s been banning anyone with two functioning neurons. What’s left couldn’t sum to a 150 IQ among them. Pretty much all that are left are sycophantic followers of CJ who are really good at reflecting the talking points CJ pitches their way. Being able to put together a reasoned argument? Not so much. As demonstrated by one of their leading contributors here tonight.

/Had first thought it was just an imposter, but apparently this is being discussed in a thread on LGF, how Kilgore Trout is “engaging” a thread on Michelle Obama at Hot Air. Given how hard it is to get registered over here, seems a stupid way to go out in a blaze of glory, but nobody is accusing them of brilliance.

karen32862 on September 18, 2009 at 2:25 AM

The Internment of the Japanese and German Americans was based solely on suspicion and great injustice was done. But the stakes were great and what was done was done on a worse case appraisal of the scenario.

As for the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshiam and Nagasaki. In the end the Allies (read the United States) ended the war roughly a year and a half before it would have ended had we maintained the war effort through more eventual means.

The Estimattes range from a few tens of thousands to a million dead and wounded, and that was just on the American side. Every shred of evidence indicates the Militarists in charge of Japan were planning to go down to the Bitter End with various nasty war fare techniques such as Biological and Chemical Warfare as well as mass human waves of civilians.

In the end, 250,000 or so died to bring to a brutal war to a much earlier end.

Holger on September 18, 2009 at 2:27 AM

I made a statement in support of Right-wing political parties in Europe, notably that same party that il Duce of LGF went off on.

I will repeat Churchill: “I will ally myself with the Devil to defeat Hitler”.

Allying oneself with or supporting a political party, even a reprehensible political party, does not mean believing that party agenda. The Enemy of my Enemy can very well be my friend but more often than not a temporary ally to be disposed of when the main enemy is defeated.

Good tactic.

Troll a site with racist comments when the moderators aren’t on, then claim that the lack of moderator action as well as the regular posters ignoring the troll is proof of racism.

Although admittedly racism is a tougher sell, the Right has not only adopted but reveled in everything the Left has tried to throw at them. The Right has proudly used tea bagger, thug, mod, and terrorist in signs and apparel so it won’t surprise me if someone comes up with a funny creative way to make the Left eat the racism claim also. Then it will be interesting to see if they(Left) are capable of coming up with anything new or continue to use the tired old playbook of years gone by.

Never was here this late before, kind of like the Greyhound station late at night…

Having Mrs. Obama take the field for health insurance reform is a great idea. It will give us the opportunity to find out if she is still proud of her country, if she still thinks we’re mean. And also to ask how she did her hospital job so well that they didn’t even need to replace her – think of the health care savings if we can learn to get rid of expensive political dead wood from her experience! And the cute articles as she stops by her old home and visits her neighbors, the Rezkos.

I can’t think of anything American women, concerned with their family’s health issues, can learn from her. Except maybe to pass on $500 tennis shoes, you might need the money some day for the doctor. If there are any doctors left.

I would prefer to see the whole place clean up it’s act, Congress become reacquainted with the Constitution and the people in their districts. Right now they just seem to be doing a lot of spending with no idea on the ultimate outcome just because they can. They aren’t leaders, they are trophy wives.

The bride cant take Michelle’s attitude and refers to her as a BWA. In the medical profession, that would be the clerk that gives you the hairy eyeball when you make an obviously needless request for assistance. The sell wont sell, IHMO.

I think it’s the beginning of the end for personality-cult politics. She’s going to do more damage to her personal “favorables” than she is going to improve the ObamaCare “favorables”. People don’t hate ObamaCare because it lacks a spokesperson, they hate it because it stinks. The WH’s strategy here is, shall we say, putting a pig on the lip balm.

I guess when all else fails, release the beast from her cage.

a friendly face and a noncontroversial spin

Wait a minute, I thought this article was about Michelle Obama.

PaddyJ on September 18, 2009 at 8:34 AM

Here’s hoping Michelle acts like an Acme purchase by Wile E. Coyote (Duh one)

Oh, and I will save you all the trouble…….

RAAAAAAAAAACIST!!!!!!!!

I would be amazed, no, I would be astounded, if Michelle Obama were able to change ONE persons mind on Obamacare.

Girlfriend makes Hillary seem warm and fuzzy.

anniekc on September 18, 2009 at 8:35 AM

If you take a close look at Michelle, isn’t she the spitting image of James Brown, with a wig?

Jeff from WI on September 18, 2009 at 8:36 AM

Thanks, Ed, for catching that fish and frying him up for breakfast.
First Carter, now MO. Who else can they push out front?
Gore? They played on our fears!

The first shemale will definitely get the tranny vote. The question of the day however:Is she pre-op or post-op?

inevitable on September 18, 2009 at 8:41 AM

This is great!
With Michelle out there it is the death of Obamacare.

Hope and hope and hope that she gets in a situation where she gets angry and lashes out at those that oppose Obamacare.

albill on September 18, 2009 at 8:45 AM

Is there any doubt that these two Obama hucksters are the two biggest scammers in world history? They probably close the door at night, do a fist bump and say, “Americans are fools and suckers”.

Change one person’s mind in favor of Obamacare, right? Cause I’m willing to bet that it won’t take all that much to turn fence sitters against the scheme.

And, for the record, Girlfriend makes Bernie Madoff seem warm and fuzzy.

I used to think that the grifter tendencies of the Clintons was as low as it got. The filthy liar has found a new low.

Oh, I am so sorry I feel asleep, I would have loved to discuss that with you. It is a practice that has long out served it usefulness.

Sorry, late answer. Far from a rockstar my opinions of politicians have veered so far in the opposite direction as to be equally unrealistic.

Cindy Munford on September 18, 2009 at 8:53 AM

Killgore Trout’s comments have been removed — all of them from when he first started commenting — and will not be back. It’s real brave to pollute our blog while we’re asleep.

Ed Morrissey on September 18, 2009 at 7:11 AM

If you haven’t already, you probably should do a private e-mail to Charles asking him if this is the type of “civil” commentator he’s claiming his blog only tolerates. And if Kilgore really does have administrative privileges over there, then he’s pretty much Grover Dill to Charles’ Scott Farkus.

jon1979 on September 18, 2009 at 8:55 AM

I can’t stand the lady because of her attitude about America; she who received special treatment in college because apparently her brother was a talented athlete there. My wife lost all respect for her when she found out that Mrs. Obama made $103,633 in 2007, the year she reduced her work schedule to part time. The e-mail about making over $300K was incorrect, but $103K for part time work and we still don’t know why she gave up her right to practice law. Of course her huge $300K plus salary coincided with the $1 million earmark to the hospital by her husband. And hey, she was the friend of the Ayers before Mr. Obama knew them. These people are less transparent than the Clintons and I thought they were remise.
