Fox News poll: Obama’s credibility on health care pretty much shot

posted at 6:39 pm on September 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not the worst numbers he’s had this summer, but to see this much skepticism on this many aspects of ObamaCare this late in the game — and after his Beyond Thunderdome speech to Congress — is simply devastating. I’m going to tick them off rapid fire here while saving the punchline for the end.

Do you favor/oppose the current plan: -10 (38/48, up from 34/49 last month)
Will seniors be better/worse off under the plan: -11 (23/34)
Will your family be better/worse off: -14 (22/36)
Do you prefer ObamaCare/the current system: -9 (37/46)
Do you favor/oppose requiring everyone to buy insurance: -12 (42/54)
Would you want coverage from ObamaCare/private insurance if you were seriously ill: -42 (20/62 overall, 35/40 among Dems)
Is it possible/not possible that ObamaCare won’t add a dime to the deficit: -39 (28/67)
Under ObamaCare, will you be able to keep your plan/be forced to make changes: -24 (36/60)
Do you think the public option would not/would put private insurers out of business: -11 (41/52)

And now the punchline: The sample was 42% Democrat, 31% Republican, and 21% Independent. Even in a poll where respondents tilt blue, The One can’t do better than negatives across the board. (The partisan gap in last month’s sample was much narrower, which may help explain why Republicans actually lost five points in the generic ballot in this new one.)

One more data point for you. Repeat as necessary: Health-care reform is a major crisis and the most urgent domestic priority of our time.

Blowback

I just went through the raw data of this poll (for all wonks, I highly recommend you do this), and I’ll tell you what really jumped out at me.

It wasn’t so much the spread on vital numbers, although that can’t bode well for the Dems.

What struck me was how much closer in line independent views are with GOP views than with Dem views. Example:

Ques. 2: On Health Care Approval: Indy approval is 22 points higher than GOP approval, but 38 points lower than Dem approval.

This tells me that independents are moving much closer to the mainstream of GOP opinion, and away from Dem opinion. And on a lot of questions, it isn’t particularly close.

Once again, just devastating numbers.

A Sunday blitz will change everything.

I wonder if Obama’s schedulers realize the only “blitz” will be either on the NFL broadcast and the thousands that will be watching the first Chase-Race in Nascar? Can Obama really get above the sound of a roaring engine?

after his Beyond Thunderdome speech to Congress

Now THAT’S a thing of beauty!

Thank you

The sample is skewed, but don’t they weight the results to compensate?

DaveS on September 17, 2009 at 7:23 PM

Not in this poll. But if you look at the raw data, you can see how an accurate representation of the number of independents would make it look far worse for the Administration.

no wonder Pelosi tried the crying game.

Too many things for the shows to ask about – he’s sunk.

HondaV65 on September 17, 2009 at 7:20 PM

You’re assuming that his media minions will throw him anything but softballs.

He’s not going on Fox, and I’m sure it’s due to his absolute terror that they might ask him an actual question that would require an actual answer, as opposed to his usual fare of vague platitudes and (dishonest) sob stories.

jana on September 17, 2009 at 7:39 PM

But P-BO’s not an economist, so he goes with what he knows: meddling community organizer.

Obamas speaking to the media doesn’t work anymore.
He’s about as exciting as sex in a 35 year old marriage with a bad prostrate.

It won’t do a damn thing, because he’s still selling the same old faulty product.

Unfortunately for us (and anyone else who wants to watch TV for the next 3 1/2 years), he honestly still thinks that he’s charming enough to sell us on hope(!) and change(!), simply by talking to us…

Yes, Nan those numbers would make me cry too….

Polls keep a fallin’ on my head
And just like the guy whose wife’s butt is to too big for his bed
Nothin’ seems to fit
Those polls are a fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

So I just did me some talkin’ to Emanuel
And he said we’d just get conservative bloggers to give Sarah Palin some more Hell
Get others to do that job
Those polls are fallin’ on my head, they keep fallin’

But there’s one thing I know
The blues polls send to meet me won’t defeat me
It won’t be long till Marxist happiness steps up to greet me

Polls keep a fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean the country will soon be turnin’ red
Losin’s not for me
‘Cause I’m never gonna stop the polls by complainin’
Because I’m conscience free
They’ll just get the deep six from me

It’s not just that they don’t know how to govern, they don’t even know how to govern badly.

I think I see the Soros plan – engineer a massive economic crisis during the last days of the Bush Administration, giving Obumba a mandate to push through sweeping legislative changes aimed at redistributing wealth and power from capitalism to the State, destroy the economy, the dollar, national defense and America’s standing with the West, and then reap the benefits of totalitarian control over a new global order. Barry will then be ‘rewarded’ down the track for a job well done.

However they appear to have miscalculated how quickly the electorate would take off the blinkers. Worse, their efforts to stamp out ‘dissent’ are uncoordinated and messy. The Fairness Doctrine is not yet in place, the Internet is still influential despite Eric Schmidt’s attempts to turn it into ObamaGoogle and ObamaTube, and those hateful RWE’s have not yet been exterminated. As well, Europe seems to be trending away from socialism these days.

The Plan depended upon total media control, and a cult figure who would skilfully play upon the cumulative guilt and wishful thinking of popular culture, and charm the populace into a state of blissful and wilful ignorance. Unfortunately they couldn’t seize the Internet or talk radio, and it only takes a few voices to bring it all down. And they forgot that when times get tough, people become pragmatists real quick. Luxuries such as guilt, climate change, appeasement etc disappear down the drain of stark reality.

Here’s the thing: Obamacare can afford to be an abject failure if and only if the people approved of it and wanted it before it goes through. Look at NHS or Canada’s system.

But, with numbers like this, there will be blood in the streets when Obamacare runs out insurance companies and the wait times start to pile up.

Americans will rightfully see it as a situation that could have been avoided, if it weren’t for the fascists on the Hill “fixing” things that weren’t broken, “fixes” that a majority of Americans did not approve of.

I’ll be at the range on Sunday morning poking holes in paper with my match Garand with about thirty other racist, rightwing extremists, after that, it’s Redskins, and Joe Gibbs Racing.
Sunday is officially an Obama free zone, I need one day to not think of what he is doing to my homeland.
Only in America…for now…

I am getting a strong suspicion we are about to see a Mortar tossed into the ObamaDome from Fort Wasilla.

Beware the Arctic Fox.

portlandon on September 17, 2009 at 6:50 PM

A mortar is far too imprecise and far too small to be used as a metaphor for the facebook posts from the great white north.

They were more like ICBM’s that landed with pinpoint accuracy.

If you think about it, this all started with two words:

“Death Panels”

On Special Report tonight, Brett Baier exposed Obama as a lying sack for misrepresenting the outcome of some patient whom Obama said died because his insurance was canceled. Turns out, the patient’s insurance was reinstated, he received some kind of stem-cell treatment, and he lived another three years.

The fricking White House responded that Obama was “essentially” correct on the facts.

WTF? Obama’s administration deals with the public like that a**hole adult deals with kids in those Ally ads.

Obama and his supporters think this is some kind of a joke. But they’re screwing with our money and our lives.

Considering that the fox news poll is one of the worst polls that always give Obama the best numbers. This is real bad news for Obama.Rasmussen is the best and Obama numbers on health care are in free fall.

Polls that show anything counter to Obama being the greatest prezident evah are well pretty much RACIST!!

I would love it if someone, anyone, would ask what type of community organizer BO was: the trafficing in little girls kind, tax evasion kind, or outsourcing cathouse kind.

I still don’t really know what kind he was. Maybe some gumshoe reporter could ask.

So, 78% of Republicans think that the (any) President can “fix the economy”?

That’s pretty sad. No wonder things are the way they are.
