Video: Mob boss or union boss?

posted at 10:12 am on September 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Meet the new union boss … same as the old union boss, according to the Workforce Fairness Institute, which opposes card-check legislation. Richard Trumka just took the reins at the AFL-CIO despite a somewhat checkered past.  As WFI points out, Trumka has been under investigation for money laundering with the Teamsters, election fraud, and $50,000 in illegal campaign contributions.  All of this has WFI wondering in a snarky video if people can tell between Trumka and mob bosses from fiction and history:

The AFL-CIO has picked someone they believe represents exactly who they are and what they endorse.  People can look at Trumka’s record and determine whether they feel safe in union organizing elections with a union boss like Trumka standing between them and a secret ballot.  It’s not exactly a comforting thought.

They probably need a strong man to fight the SEIU to regain the clout that the SEIU took from the AFL-CIO. We just might see a little mob union turf war erupt.

WashJeff on September 16, 2009 at 10:15 AM

THIS is why they want single pay healthcare AND card check. They will unionize the healthcare system and stay in power FOREVER. They’ve done it with schools, autos, etc. and 1/7th of our economy is healthcare, which will be game over.

marklmail on September 16, 2009 at 10:16 AM

The AFL-CIO is made up of gold bricking, feather bedding, no-load thugs who funnel their ill got gains to mobsters like Trumka and absolutely worthless, corrupt and incompetent Democrat politicians, who ensure that union contracts are mandated by local, state and federal legislation.

It’s a racket that rips of the American economy to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars per year.

Just another in a long list of reasons for why Democrat politicians need to all be removed from office.

Democrats – Corrupt and incompetent.

He will fit right in, with both union leadership and their soulmates in the dem party.

These are all what are known as “resume enhancers”.

After all, he’s taking over a racket shadier than a Bangkok brothel, they don’t want a choirboy.

“Mr. Trumka is a wonderful, honest man.” “Hey quit sticking that gun barrel in the back of my neck”, The AFL-CIO,” Hey that hurts”, “is a wonderful organization”, “Hey don’t shoot the dog”, “They only mean to do well for their members and the American people”

“There, I typed what you said” “I, I………..

Who’s going to go after him? The Justice Department? LOLOL…They’re bigger crooks than the mob. At least the mob has some honor.

There’s a difference? Who knew!

TheBigOldDog on September 16, 2009 at 10:40 AM

Who’s going to go after him? The Justice Department?

Sure they will, but only if the AFL-CIO starts making campaign contributions to Republicans.

Then, Holder and company will swing into action.

Mob boss or union boss?

Has there ever been a difference?

To quote Deion Sanders back when he tried playing on both sides of the ball, “Both, boss.”

CIA, Justice Dept., FBI, they’re ALL over run with Commie leftists that were bought off by the Democrats right down to the local cop patrolling your neighborhood right now.

Why, no! Of course they’re not corrupt!

They have perfectly legitimate reasons for dropping the voter intimidation case against the Black Panthers in Philadelphia. Even after the panthers lost by default for not showing up for the hearing.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

And the kicker : Tax NON-UNION employees’ employer-paid benefits as income while exempting such benefits for UNION employees. Is a discernible pattern emerging here?

If you are a union boss in this country, you are in bed with organized crime. Everybody knows it, but no one wants to admit it. Unions are for the weak and the cowardly. You either stand up to these criminals, or continue paying extortion money to them so they won’t kill you.

Unions ad the mob have always been connected, and it all spreads its ugly tentacles from Chicago.

immigrantchick on September 16, 2009 at 11:25 AM

Unions are thugs. When my grandma was working, I think it was the SEIU, was taking $ out of her paycheck even though she was not a member. So they forced people who don’t agree with them to pay for them, typical mob move.

immigrantchick on September 16, 2009 at 11:27 AM

I’m very proud of the fact that my Father was able to keep the Unions away from Western Electric and ATT&T down in the South for the many years he worked there. He taught me what a bunch of Slimy Grease-balls the Bosses were and how much better off the employees were without these @$$holes. Stand up to Organized Crime and shove em’ back into the hole they crawled out of.

biggovernment.com has a story on how much money the unions are giving to Acorn today.

Hoffa’s kid runs the Teamsters and is on the Board of Change to Win with Andy Stern, Ana Burger and I believe Rathke is on there too.
