The RICO investigation needs to be initiated by the Justice Department (i know) and the independent prosecutor should be appointed by the Attorney General (again I know).
They won’t start any investigations until the political pressure gets so intense that they find it intolerable politically to avoid it. Once it starts they have to stay honest mainly because the issue of trust is already so low that any missteps will be seen as tampering.

The liberals will make certain some of the more easily disguised subsidiaries still have access to a federal funding stream. The whole idea makes me nauseous.”
Finding ACORN subsidiaries may prove extremely difficult (with or without a look at the books), and compounding the problem will be numerous pols (especially team Barry) obstructing the process to save themselves from the revelation of complicity.

There are prosecutors out there that no doubt would do a great job doing this. Its up to the states to police ACORN for now.

I am very sad about the deterioration over at LGF. Once upon a time, I used to read LGF daily; Dan Rather/memogate is what got me reading blogs. However, I was pretty confused when he went from regularly linking Robert Spencer to calling him a fascist. It is just sad that he now smears the tea parties.
CJ did always describe himself as a liberal who got mugged by 9/11 (I think that was him anyway). I guess he reverted or something. Too bad. I liked the bicycle and photography posts. Now I have to deal with dude posts about donut bacon cakes and chubby blondes with fake hair.
