Video: ACORN chief vows to fight “modern-day McCarthyism”; Update: California launches probe of ACORN

posted at 8:11 pm on September 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

She finally decided to crawl out of the bunker and hit some cable shows this afternoon. Not surprisingly, Blitzer’s segment is the more informative of the two: Watch her thank O’Keefe and Giles for helping weed out the very few bad apples in the ACORN system before (a) threatening to sue them, (b) accusing them of doctoring the vids, and (c) alleging that they were turned away from “dozens” of offices. She also hedges when he presses her on submitting to an external review in lieu of that sham “audit” she thinks we’re all stupid enough to take seriously. As for the Schultz clip, it’s worth watching for two reasons. One, the “Nuts vs. ACORN” chyron is vintage MSNBC. And two, the McCarthyism soundbite at the very end, used here to deflect public interest in a nonprofit conspiring to cover up child sex trafficking, will live in infamy.

Ace is right, incidentally. Their new strategy, now that Big Government is making them bleed every day, is simply to hang on until they run out of videos and then wait for the public to lose interest. If you’re tired of these cretins getting your tax dollars, now’s the time to call Boehner, Cantor, and the rest of the House GOP and demand that they vote on defunding as soon as possible. Put the bill on Obama’s desk. Make him veto it.

Update: Evidently Schwarzenegger’s a modern-day McCarthyite too. Who knew?

This statement released today by the Black Leadership network puts the liberal race hustling we are seeing by liberals in perspective:

(via Gatewaypundit)

Washington, DC – This statement was issued today by Deneen Borelli of the national black leadership network Project 21:

http://www.nationalcenter.org/PR-Racism_Obama_091609.html

The public is outraged about the president’s policies — the spending, the budget, the deficit — not his skin color.

It’s easier for the left to play the race card than address the public’s legitimate concerns, but what the left and the media are doing is damaging and dangerous.

It’s damaging because when everything is racist, then nothing is.  Those who cry racism without evidence will cause people to tune out in cases in which there is evidence.

According to liberals pretzel logic, The Black Leadership Network are a bunch of racist.

How Progressive!!!!!!!!!!!!

Modern day McCarthyism? Isn’t that what Saul Alinsky rules are all about?

It’s time to dust off the RICO statutes for ACORN. It’s time to smash ACORN to bits and jail all of their officers. It’s time to investigate Obama’s relationship and involvement in this organization and all other marxist organizations that he’s affiliated with.

Jail to the “Chief.”

Poor DaveS seems to have a problem. Despite his towering intellect, he can’t seem to convince us knuckle draggers that the housecoats our grandmothers (and sadly now, our mothers) wore is a racially significant article of clothing that is immune to criticism. But give him credit, he’s trying to hold up the whole troll thing on his own.

Fighton03 on September 16, 2009 at 9:55 PM

Normally I dont mention things like clothes, hair, weight, etc on women, but Dave S, so wrong. Bertha is wearing a mu mu house dress. There’s nothing “African” about it. She actually looks slightly better than usual. I am pretty sure she wore her pajamas the last time Cavuto interviewed her. She has 700 employees and thats the best she can do on Nat’l tv? No! It is a ploy to look “down home.” Like someone’s nice, benevolent granny. Don’t understand women and how they dress for whatever is needed, do ya? If I was going into a welfare office to defraud to get benefits I sure wouldnt wear what I normally do. I would look poor. No $250 hair salon visit for at least a couple months, etc.

di butler on September 16, 2009 at 9:56 PM

I thought you were talking about some sort of “racial awareness”

Want to elaborate?

Upstater85 on September 16, 2009 at 9:43 PM

I was, in so far as whites are not allowed to acknowledge them in any significant way. Even in mainstream conservative circles.

Race is an area that conservatives are probably most beholden to liberal politically correct dogma. Most conservatives would almost rather die than speak honestly and openly about race in any meaningful, non-superficial way.

In a way I don’t blame them; nobody wants to be called a racist and risk losing friends and possibly even employment for entertaining socially unacceptable conversation. But on the other hand some of us need to wake up from our slumber and shake off the chains of liberal restraint. Thanks to Obama, I think a lot of conservatives are slowly but surely doing just that. But we have a long ways to go, obviously, what with morons like DaveS running around still using the left’s Race Card playbook.

In a statement over the weekend, Bertha Lewis, the chief organizer for Acorn, said the bogus prostitute and pimp had spent months visiting numerous Acorn offices, including those in San Diego, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia, before getting the responses they were looking for.

ERRR ahhh I saw the tape from San Diego today, uhm Acorn seemed MORE than willing to help set up a child prostitution ring.

The Acorn guy even stated he had good contacts in Tijuana to set up both the child sex slave trade and to stock their whorehouse.

Someone’s lying? either its my own eyes and ears or its Bertha Lewis.
I’m going with Bertha Lewis.

Why is the NYT complicit in Acorn, Bertha Lewis,in these child sex slave trade prostitution rings?

We have not seen any strength or leadership out of Obama.

Just a Hustler and Chief so far.

He better find leadership ability real fast because the real storm is on the Horizon:

Sources: McChrystal Wants Up to 40,000 More Troops in Afghanistan

Congressional liberals who led the charge against the Iraq war are starting to turn their attention to Afghanistan, putting pressure on the Obama administration to scale back even as it prepares to consider a likely request to increase the U.S. troop presence.

FOXNews.com
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/16/lawmakers-opposed-iraq-war-organize-afghanistan-build/

Members of the “Out of Iraq” caucus are organizing into a new group whose mission will be to question the military surge in the country President Obama has deemed critical to the fight against terrorism.
“He will hear from us,” said Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., who was a founding member of the Iraq caucus.

The resistance to the war is forming from inside the president’s own party. In recent days, a number of prominent Democrats have questioned calls to increase the U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan.

This could put Obama squarely between his party and his top military advisers and officials.

Obama rode the radical left to the White House.
Now they want payback.

Will the President do what is right for America and those who want the same Freedoms that are fighting beside us now or will he bend to his left wing base.

This is going to get very ugly and our Soldiers are going to be the one’s caught in the middle.

Remember what Obama said when he needed votes:

The Obama Doctrine

By Greyhawk
http://www.mudvillegazette.com/032531.html

Al Qaeda is resurgent, stronger now than at any time since 2001. We took our eye off the ball. …they are more powerful now than at any time since we began the war in Afghanistan. That’s going to change when I’m president of the United States.

We will kill bin Laden; we will crush Al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority.

And until we do, Americans here at home are not going to be safe.

Wonder if this is just going to be another of the many promises and statements that Obama said to get votes then has turned his back on now that he is President.

We are going to find out real quick what kind of a leader Mr. 57 states really is.

Once again in case you were too slow to get it the first time: I would not have commented on this lady’s attire and its appropriateness, whatever its origin, for a talk show. However. It is yet another example of a liberal focusing on race and then projecting that attitude to others.

Been there, done that.
Ok, for the first time here I am asking for help from the Hot Air community.
I am ashamed to admit the Governor of my great Commonwealth of Virginia, Tim Kaine, is only working part-time at his elected job. He is also the chairman of the Democratic National Committee. I just e-mailed him the letter below. I have also attached the link to contact him. If anyone has a few minutes today to raise some ethics issues with him, it would be appreciated. This man has national office aspirations in his blood.

Dear Governor Kaine:

In late 2007, it became apparent to me that ACORN and it’s affiliates are a criminal organization, and are being funded with taxpayer monies. My understanding is that the DNC worked hand in hand with ACORN with regard to voter registration and other “community organizing” activities.

In light of the recent videos released by Breitbart news service, it has been confirmed that ACORN offices across the country show a lack of common morality at best, and at worst, true criminal behavior such as conspiracy to commit mortgage fraud and conspiracy to commit tax fraud.

My question to you Governor, is has the DNC severed it’s ties to ACORN and if not, why not?
If the realtionship is to continue, can you please provide reasons why the national Democrats condone a relationship with an obviously corrupt entity?

As a Virginian and taxpayer, inaction on your part only leads me to believe that you, in your position as DNC chairman and the Governor of Virginia, agree with their policies and practices.

Governor, you should be ashamed to have anything to do with these corrupt organizations. A failure by you to call for an investigation of ACORN activities in Virginia would lead me to the opinion that you care little about the needs and problems of Virginians and are more interested in furthering a partisan agenda and your own political career.

I eagerly await your response.

Sincerely,

xxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks for any help y’all.

This is how the Associated Press is reporting the audit:

Embattled ACORN orders independent investigation

By SHARON THEIMER (AP) – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON — The community organizing group ACORN said Wednesday it is ordering an independent investigation after its employees were caught on camera appearing to advise a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp to lie about the woman’s profession to get housing help.

The group, which came under fire from conservatives for alleged voter fraud in 2008, said it is refusing new admissions into its service programs.

The group, which advocates for poor people, conducted a massive voter registration effort last year and became a target of conservatives when some employees were accused of submitting false registration forms with names such as “Mickey Mouse.” ACORN has said only a handful of employees submitted false registration forms and did so in a bid to boost their pay.

ACORN will work with its advisory council, which includes prominent supporters of President Barack Obama, such as John Podesta, president of the nonprofit Center for American Progress, and Andrew Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, to name an independent auditor and investigator, ACORN chief executive Bertha Lewis said in a written statement.

The investigation will examine all the systems and processes called into question by the video, Lewis said.

NYT: ACORN Victim Of R-Wing Hit Job
Conservatives Draw Blood From Acorn, Favored Foe
By SCOTT SHANE
September 16, 2009
WASHINGTON — For months during last year’s presidential race, conservatives sought to tar the Obama campaign with accusations of voter fraud and other transgressions by the national community organizing group Acorn, which had done some work for the campaign.
But it took amateur actors, posing as a prostitute and a pimp and recorded on hidden cameras in visits to Acorn offices, to send government officials scrambling in recent days to sever ties with the organization.

I would like to “copy” your letter, make a few variations (so I don’t completely plagarize” your work) and send it to all the reps/congresscritters here in Virginia. There must be a full blown investigation into these organizations and their “roles” in our election process. It’s my belief that there is probably vote tampering going on with these two groups. I don’t have any proof of any wrong doing but their practices in other states lend credibility to this type of behavior. There must be sunlight shone on them for the voters to regain confidence in our election process.

Still got nothin’, I see. Told ya. Thanks for coming back to confirm it. Have a great day, race-baiter.

This idiot just wants to keep her high-paying do-nothing job, funded by the taxpayers. She’s as complicit as everyone else in ACORN, all a bunch of entitled thieves. I hope she ends up going to jail. Of course, the two prime targets of ACORN corruption are the top two men, which are currently under investigation as well. Funny how Obama was quick to fund them and accept their “help” during his campaign, and work for them when he was doing his oh-so-important “community organizing”, but at the moment he is VERY quiet. “Judge me by the friends I keep” he once said. OK, I am.

What’s the name of this soap opera? All My Ho Chillen’s? More entertaining than Dark Shadows (one for my fellow geezers).

James O’Keefe

Ha ha ha–the J O’K is on ACORN!

jgapinoy on September 17, 2009 at 8:26 AM

In a “real” corporation this woman would have been the first to go. Even if the tapes were doctored in anyway it doesn’t change a thing that came out of Acorn employee’s mouths. Then she has the audacity to get all bold and say they will be vindicated.

New Patriot on September 17, 2009 at 9:05 AM

Bertha Lewis said Acorn kicked these 2 out all over the USA and called the cops on them.

Where are the police reports to back this up?

I’m sorry, I can’t hear you. That nice man Charlie Gibson is explaining his lastest kitchen fantasy to the new girl, Meredith whats-her-name.

Blacksmith8 on September 17, 2009 at 10:31 AM

Typical welfare activist organization. The welfare class has a whole different view of the world: they diserve the rewards from other peoples labor because they were slaves 150 years ago. They will continue to beat this dead horse until working people have had enough.

I never had any slaves, so I don’t feel I bear the load of slavery. However, I do feel I’m bearing the load of dragging an anchor that needs to be pulled in. If the welfare class chooses not to be educated, not to exert any effort, and remain virtually useless, it is not my fault and I shouldn’t have to pay to promote it.

LMFAO. That Ed guy is so delusional. What are his ratings? in the thousands?

daesleeper on September 17, 2009 at 10:59 AM

She claims that ACORN only receives about $2 million per year. However, Senator Johanns says it is closer to $4 million per year.

Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., said that ACORN has received $53 million in taxpayer funds since 1994 and that the group was eligible for a wider set of funding in the pending legislation, which funds housing and transportation programs.

(via fox news http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/14/senate-votes-cut-acorn-housing-funding/)

Someone is inaccurate in their calculations.

Presumably, from 1994-2006, funding ACORN was not a high priority Congress. I’m sure ACORN was looking for a pay day over the next two years.

As this comic tragedy unfolds, ACORN, and Obama, and all the rest of the cult that perpetuates this lunacy, are doing the black community a grave disservice. When this is over and all the truth finally comes out (and it always does)the millions of hardworking, good and decent black people who have not been part of this will suffer an increase in racism that will last for decades. These people define that N word nobody wants to hear; and they are killing the dream. Racial equality may never get back to where it was going in Martin Luther King Jr’s dream. Uniters? No! Usurpers. They have taken something good and honorable and turned it into something filthy and disgusting.

Robert Mugabe? Is that Robert Mugabe? I thought the great commie marxist humanitarian Robert Mugabe was busy raping & pillaging Zimbabwe.

Apparently Zimbabwe must be running short on pillagible funds so American taxpayer funds will suffice in funding those Swiss bank accounts eh? After all its all green & its for the children.

So, if California goes after them, I guess that makes it 16 states that are investigating ACORN. Surely this will have to stick.

In the MSNBC clip, that little head-bobble of hers at 2:57 speaks volumes. She’s entitled to our tax money, and woe be unto anyone who says otherwise.

greggriffith on September 17, 2009 at 2:08 PM

email NBC, CBS et al. today and tell them they need to put the thumbscrews to Obama on this ACORN issue this weekend. What did he know and when did he know it? Regarding election fraud, corruption, tax evasion, voter registration and all of it.

Contact senators–tell them two things–RICO and ACORN

The great part of this is that every time a new video comes out, people ask “what about all the other offices”?

And then another video comes out.

So far, Philadelphia is the only one to throw the reporters out, right? Which proves they’re smart, but not necessarily that they’re not crooks. I’d love to see that video, if only to prove that one ACORN employee did not countenance illegal activity.

I don’t agree. I think we’ve moved beyond that. I think that (as long as this gets handled properly) you’ll see the exact opposite. I think what passes for most “white racism” today is people tired of being labeled something they aren’t, and push back against the excuse mongering done by groups like acorn.

When groups like ACORN, that cry wolf all the time are brought to heel, I think we’ll actually see less places for true racial bigotry to hide.

Fighton03 on September 17, 2009 at 2:55 PM

I’m sure our Attorney General, former Governor Moonbeam, will do a thorough investigation.

Or is it that you don’t have a problem with your employees facilitating child prostitution?

Hmm. If wearing Wal-mart or Goodwill muu muu house dresses is the way to show you are proud of your African heritage instead of a dress, skirt/blouse of a regular American woman, I wonder why Michelle Obama or her older woman mother never show up in their “granny” wear? Are they not proud of their heritage? Dave?

Here’s a headline for you:

Prostitution/Brothel Advocate Doesn’t Like FoxNews

I would say that’s pretty good for FoxNews! Did you guys see how ACORN has removed a lot of those anti Fox News press releases they were releasing earlier this week? Calling it Fox “News” and an entertainment company? They took those down…I wonder why??? Perhaps they learned about not to go after the messenger?
