Surprise: ACORN audit to be conducted by panel full of leftists and cronies

posted at 6:42 pm on September 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

I can’t do better than Karl’s summary so I’m going to steal it: “A Soros hack, an SEIU thug, someone who pleaded to lying to the FBI, and a Kennedy.” All that’s missing are a few pimps and prostitutes for “technical expertise.” Hardest-hitting internal investigation evah:

In a press release, ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis says, that as “a result of the indefensible action of a handful of our employees,” the group will immediately stop accepting anyone into ACORN office for service programs, will conduct in-service training of staff, and begin an audit “to review all of the systems and processes called into question by the videos,” to be conducted by the group’s Independent Advisory Council.

The Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

More background on the panel from Karl here. They’ll have the place cleaned up in no time. Meanwhile, you’ll be glad to know that the White House has now formally deemed this seemingly endless series of videos about covering up child-sex-slave trafficking — and it is seemingly endless, per the latest hint dropped by Big Government editor Mike Flynn — to be “completely unacceptable.” Whether that means The One will sign a bill to defund the organization should it pass the House is unclear. Presumably the point of this absurd whitewash-slash-“audit” is to create enough cover for Democrats to say they deserve a second chance, which is all the more reason why it’s important for Big Government to keep the clips coming. The more there are, the more systemic this is, the more pathetic the idea of some investigative panacea becomes.

Speaking of keeping the clips coming, here’s part three from San Bernardino; a new one, reportedly from San Diego, is set to go live tonight around nine. Pay special attention starting at around two minutes in as our heroine nods blithely along while O’Keefe and Giles talk about johns paying extra to physically assault the child prostitutes they’re raping. Exit question for big media: Now that Jon Stewart’s informed you that it’s okay to pursue this story, can we knock it off with the “ACORN versus conservatives” angle? Unless you’re okay with a taxpayer-funded nonprofit colluding in sex slavery, the politics of Breitbart, O’Keefe, and Giles would seem to be somewhat tangential to the real story here.

I believe audit when I see. It’s easy to put out a statement saying you are going to hire an independent panel. It’s another to actually hire one and release the report. I say we will never see the report.

This is beyond parody. These people are absolutely sooooo corrupt that they actually think we’ll believe their report.

These people are insane. Of course, they want to help Obama turn the US into a Marxist paradise so insanity seems to be par for the course.

I thought this was a smear? Now it’s indefensible? Five days ago it wasn’t indefensible?

I thought this ACORNer was just “playing along”? If this is just a game, then why the ‘audit’?

If this is all an ‘attack’ from conservatives and FOX News, then why the need to “clean house”?

Ahhh, the questions the MSM won’t ask…

macncheez on September 16, 2009 at 6:58 PM

Who would work for them after this? Who would willingly show up for work all bright eyed and bushy tailed, happy to be working for acorn and collecting a paycheck. How devoid of humanity do you have to be to stay there? How many acorn employees are looking around their own office and thinking “yeah, that could never happen here.” At this stage, are any of them thinking that?

WitchDoctor on September 16, 2009 at 6:59 PM

This is what they will come up with…if they were unionized they would not have this problem…they will unionize, make some changes (rattle some papers around) then request more money for the increased wages.
End of inquiry…

I think the paper shredders will be working overtime for the next few days.

The panel is a who’s who of the super left wing radicals. Andy Stern is even hated by most of the union movement.

Audit???? Audit implies looking at their money stream, not “talking” to them. They potentially stole millions of dollars, where is the IRS looking at their tax exempt status??? How about criminal accountability for the loans they are giving, since you have on tape they are telling clients how to fill out the applications, that is fraud.

Also, I thought this was a non-partision community group, why only dems looking into them?

I obviously know the answer, but where in the hell is the outrage from anyone other than Mr. Beck on this?????????????

I have never watched Glen Beck, but I tivo’d it today and I have to say he bashes Repubs and Dems and makes sense. I did not expect to feel that way, but I did.

Pshaw ! ACORN is just the nuts in the leftist tree with roots deep in the democratic party.

Its a heirarchy. The democratic party is at the top. They get their second tier (NAACP, UNIONS, ACLU) to farm out to the their cheapest tier (ACORN, DKOS, Huffington, Media Matters, TIDES Foundation ect…) to do the cheap dirty work.

Its not the nuts at the top of the tree that is corrupt its rotten to the dirty core of its roots.

Gillibrand has defended her vote, saying the group does good work that should continue, despite the bad actions of a few employees.

“While Sen. Gillibrand finds the actions of certain ACORN employees to be reprehensible and will ask ACORN leaders for a full investigation and plan to prevent any further abuse, the truth remains that thousands of New York families who are facing foreclosure depend on charitable organizations like ACORN for assistance,” said Bethany Lesser, a spokesman for Gillibrand. “Sen. Gillibrand believes that eliminating funding for the important programs that ACORN provides would be harmful to the thousands of hard-working New Yorkers who need extra assistance in the middle of this economic crisis.”

They’re going to try to sweep this under the rug. We can’t let them get away with it. I’m tired of being taken for a stooge.

Someone needs to see if there is a connection between Eric Eve getting his job at Citi and ACORNs activities on pressuring banks…

This would be a good place to start…

Just heard Bertha on the news use…. wait for it…. The race card. Said they were only after them because they help brown and black folks. Big surprise…

But don’t these videos show ACORN helping WHITE ho and pimp ?

Who are they trying to fool?

[Knucklehead on September 16, 2009 at 6:47 PM]

They aren’t trying to fool anyone, well not in the way I think you intend. This audit isn’t to clean ACORN up, it’s to sufficiently disentangle ACORN from The Web so it doesn’t pull the whole syndicate down, later.

I’m half inclined to suggest putting Lewis on suicide watch, but that effort might be better spent on ACORN’s accountants.

Check Gray Davis list of major contributors when all three had their downfall. Then we’ll talk.

A gaggle of cornered rats, a gaggle of cornered rats
See how they scurry around, see how they scurry around
Their supporters are running away from them as if for their very life
Breitbart, O’Keefe and Giles are cutting their tales off with a carving knife
Did you ever see such a thing in your life
As a gaggle of cornered rats?
