Quotes of the day

posted at 10:55 pm on September 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Jimmy Carter is 84 years old and three decades removed from the White House, but he still has the power to make Democrats run.

Away from him, that is

‘We should take our cue from President Obama,’ Durbin told POLITICO. ‘As his personal friend for many years, I can tell you, he is the last person to raise this issue.’”

***
“We’re only eight months into the Age of Obama—the period in which he promised to unite our divided country, heal our wounds, and bind up our divisions—and Obama’s critics are now routinely labeled as unpatriotic, racists, liars, mobsters, evil mongers, practitioners of un-American tactics, and more. As Obama’s failures mount up, it will only get worse. The volume will only get louder. And the charges will only get more desperate and incendiary.

It will be an ugly and sad thing to witness. Nervous breakdowns often are.”

***
“I have no quarrel with a president of any race. Obama is not black to me. He’s not half black, half white. He’s president of the United States, and as such, given his agenda, he poses a grave danger to the American I believe in. And that’s all that matters to me. I couldn’t care if he’s a hermaphrodite. I don’t care who he sleeps with. I don’t care where he eats. I don’t care what he eats. I don’t care how he drives. I don’t care about any of that. I don’t care about his haircut. I don’t care whether he’s getting gray. I don’t care about his tie. I don’t care about any of this. I care about his intent to remake this country into a country unlike any of us have ever seen. I have serious concerns about today’s media and their new standard, which is this: Any criticism of an African-American president’s policies or statements or misstatements is racist, and that’s it.

Therefore the question: Can this nation really have an African-American president? Or will the fact that we have an African-American president so paralyze politically correct people in the media that the natural scrutiny and process through which all of our presidents are put through and vetted do not occur because of the fear in the State-Controlled Media of themselves being called racist and the desire to be able to call everyone else racist. In other words, we have a blank slate. We have a president here who is not scrutinized, who is not examined. There is no attempt to be suspicious of power anymore. So is it possible that we really have an African-American president? Or does having an African-American president paralyze the process by which people with that kind of power in our representative republic are kept, quote, unquote, honest?”

Obama’s critics are now routinely labeled as unpatriotic, racists, liars, mobsters, evil mongers, practitioners of un-American tactics, and more.

Not just now, this technique was tested out during the democratic primaries (Bill Clinton was called a racist) and during the general election (McCain labeled a racist by John Lewis). Looking back into barry’s political career we find that barry always somehow ended up running unopposed – his opponents just happen to fall off, divorce records exposed, scandals that sort of thing. So, the race card did not get its full play until the election of 2008. However, some clever folks did see the potential way back.

The Continued Evolution Of Charles Johnson
The pioneer of the anti-Jihadist blog, Little Green Footballs, is repulsed by some of the developments on the populist, racist right. He’s right to be; and has the courage to say so. For that he is subjected to the usual mau-mauing. Check out his blog. It’s an Yglesias Award in motion.

Mau-mauing? That sounds rather racist from a Brit? So what’s next, will CJ and Sully both appear on Bill Maher’s show, followed by a few doobs and a post show circle jerk?

I didn’t like Jimmy Carter… because of his Administration’s weak policies and moronic political activities sucked.

Exactly the same applies with Barack Obama.

But his transparent undermining of the nation.

Coulda been Micheal Steele. Woulda been no issue with vetting at that point.

Shoulda have been a lot more lib hate exposing and a moderate winner instead of a radical. Cause the left harbors an inner glowing hot fury they specifically save for Black conservatives.

Knucklehead on September 16, 2009 at 11:25 PM

Actually, that is a good idea. perhaps signs could be held that would inform “journalists” of the news. Maybe that way it could get on TV.

Unfortunately, the only wat for this to be effective would be for about 100 million people to participate, otherwise it would never merit any coverage.

Loxodonta on September 17, 2009 at 12:02 AM

You know I reckon that the post racial period wont start until Obama has left office. Why? because by then the left and the fringe media would have used the race card so heavily to defend Obama from legitimate criticism that it will cease to have any effect what so ever and once that happens race will cease to be a divisive issue that progressives can exploit to further their agenda and keep themselves in power with.

I’ve long thought one of the reasons Obama appointed Hillary to his administration was to silence Bill, who otherwise would pull more limelight-hogging stunts like the North Korea hostage release. But there is nothing short of death and no one but God who can shut Carter up.

Can this nation really have an African-American president?

No. But we can have an American President. Why do people do that…use their ethnic or racial background as a qualifier? If you go to other countries no one refers to themselves as American-Eygptian or American-British or French-Spanish or German-Danish(although the last one sounds good, and now I’m hungry.) If you’re a citizen of the country that’s what you are. Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.

Deanna on September 17, 2009 at 12:08 AM

I don’t know how anyone can deny that the opposition to Obama is based in racism. It’s all in the definition.

Here are the facts. Racism has been rising steadily over the last few months. In recent polls, President Obama’s favorability rating has dropped from 70% to 50%. This means the percentage of racists in this country has risen from 30% to 50% – a 67% increase in only eight months! Even more alarming, close to one out of two Americans are now racist. We have reached a tipping point. If this trend continues, the racists will soon be in a majority. Now, more than ever, we need the pundits, ex-presidents, and sages of the mainstream media to speak out. Certainly before – you know – the next election.

atheling on September 17, 2009 at 12:21 AM

Everyone told me I was crazy back in November, after the election.

I predicted that Obama would be the LAST time that the Democrats would receive over 90% of the Black vote.

They’re, predictably, going to use the race card, but it isn’t going to work. There is a cognitive disconnect with his ideology and a significant portion of the Black population.

Now that we have a Black president, the argument is going to be ideological eventually. It is already present, and it is growing.

You see…they know their only option is to use the race card, because they fear a national discussion on ideology. They know that a serious discussion means that they will bleed Black support.

Finally, the argument is ideological, not racial.

And they know it…FEAR it.

BOO!

I remember dad without enough money to buy milk for 6 kids and threatened with layoff.
I remember the nightly news count with the hostages, 52 of them, with blindfolds and the 100, 200, 300 then 444 days.

One of the reasons I greatly enjoy Hot Air is because it is not a mono-culture. Culture has an odd affect on people. You can soak it up unknowingly, like a sponge. You breath culture in every day. And if you live in a mono-culture, you pick up all these beliefs, attitudes, patterns of speech and behavior, without every questioning them, and suddenly they are reality.

Diversity doesn’t prevent this, but it is certainly more difficult to think the emperor is wearing the most beautiful clothes in the world when you have someone telling you flat our that your wrong, and someone else like AP snickering in your ear. Much of liberal academia and the news and entertainment industries simply never have to interact with anyone other than like-minded people. It’s very, very strange and frankly un-American.

As a result, they are returning to what has become for some liberals an emotional and psychological norm: anger and fury, overheated and reckless charges, bitterness and pettiness. It is embodied in people like Frank Rich and Keith Olbermann and Joe Klein, but some version of this affliction extends to many others.

Knucklehead on September 17, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Didn’t see your post until after I used the great minds line..
but, this clearly proves that Conservatives have great minds and we all think alike – therefore, we are not racists!

redwhiteblue on September 17, 2009 at 12:40 AM

And the good news was that we got Ronald Reagan after all that. Just praying now that we will have a similar fate in the near future. It would be awesome to grow old and tell people that I survived both Carter and Obama (and Bill Clinton just to keep the drama rolling)….and that America – and the WORLD – survived!

redwhiteblue on September 17, 2009 at 12:27 AM

And I would add voting for the Frist Female President of the United States.
Sarah ’12 and proud of it.

Conservatism…Ain’t it great?

Actual discussions in the arena of ideas.

Saltysam on September 17, 2009 at 12:34 AM

Unlike the public “option” of ObamaCare, and so much of life under totalitarian left-wing governments, conservatism doesn’t come in or offer one size or one flavor. And conservatives ourselves can be quite an unruly bunch. Hard to train. Nearly impossible to heard. We are doomed, I tell you!

Loxodonta on September 17, 2009 at 12:43 AM

He rescinded daylight savings time. I remember waiting for the bus to get to work………….in the dark……….and coming home………..in the dark………because we had to save energy. Speed limits changed from 65 to 55 mph.

Or was that someone else who screwed up my life?

and in whoever produces cheesy beta-male porn ( libs need to vent )

Janos Hunyadi on September 17, 2009 at 12:47 AM

The question I would pose to the race-baiters:

Imagine Barack Obama was Republican, was conservative, was pursuing free-market reform of the health care system, was cutting taxes, was lifting regulations, was pursuing pro-life policies, was strengthening our national defense, was defending the liberty of the American people. If he was doing these things, or even a reasonable mix of these things, is there any doubt that the Right would be hailing him as Reagan reborn?

I know I would.

Loxodonta on September 17, 2009 at 12:43 AM

Most people are conservative. They just haven’t discovered it yet.

It’s like the fool that laughs at all the humans, pointing and sneering…and then sees his self in the mirror and like a deer caught in headlights says…

“hey, wait a second…I are one.”

Saltysam on September 17, 2009 at 12:51 AM

In that same hypothetical I’d bet 200 hypothetical dollars that you’d hear quiet a bit of Uncle Tom, Oreo, Eggplant and other ‘praise’ from our friendly neighborhood enlightened liberals. And in that hypothetical I know I’d win.

Who exactly are the racists? The people dissenting from this Agenda regardless of Color (we dissented on the same agenda when it was a white southerner) or the people who
automatically assume the very worst about their opposition?

I’m down in Park Forest, “the original G.I. town”, not to be confused with Forest Park or any other other “Park” towns we have around here. Google it sometime, we have a very interesting history.

And I’m too cheap to move to a more fancy place. I spend to much time traveling and seeing the world.

Knucklehead on September 17, 2009 at 12:54 AM

Hey, Everybody. You have to read this article by Lloyd Marcus. It really points out what’s happening to Black conservatives in our country. This is so disgusting. I’m going to find Carter’s email and send him a copy and one to Maxine Waters, and to every other jacka** Congressman who has been saying that we are racists.

This is absolutely disgusting.

Holger on September 17, 2009 at 12:33 AM

Yes, more than you might think-both students and faculty. I was showing the photos we took in DC last weekend around campus today. Got lots of questions about how to get involved and vigorous agreement about the present state of affairs. The natives are not just restless, they are royally pissed and fed up!

I think we get to thank Nixon for the 55 mph…in ’74. I was in driver’s ed. then and remember it was a big deal. But I’m sure Carter found a way to mess the roads up even more – and I say that not out of racism, but out of disgust for the way he messed America up! Just like I feel about Obama today.

I’m pretty sure it was 90, then 75 and Nixon lowered to 65. I thit it was Carter who did the 55, ala Sammy Hagar’s “I can’t drive 55!”

Become the campus Thomas Paine.

We need to turn this into something grander than a mere political revolution. We need it to become the American Reconquista!

Loxodonta on September 17, 2009 at 12:28 AM

Sorry for the delay in my response. I had to let my dogs out. Hope you’re still up.

I’ve come to enjoy the Hot Air culture a lot. However, methinks the moniker I chose, while true, creates some weirdness and suspicion. I was (was being the operative word) a moderate Democrat for twenty years.

As for academe, yes most academics don’t interact with folks that have perspectives outside their comfort zone. I’m speaking from experience here. I’ve been a conservative for several years, but posting on HA is the first opportunity I’ve had to interact with people who have similar ideologies.

The notion that “journalists” don’t even know about the ACORN scandals is scandalous to journalism. But of course, they don’t know that, either.

Loxodonta on September 16, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Oh, of course it was Carter who reached the Big Government Arm into our lives even more! The good news is that it is currently up to each State/Municipality what they want the speed limit to be. I probably shouldn’t have mentioned this…because now some Speed Czar will show up and slap a tax on us.
