New ACORN video: The San Diego sting

posted at 9:49 pm on September 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’ve been waiting 45 minutes for Big Government to post the new clip but it looks like this is the best we’ll do for now. Fifty-eight seconds long and it looks like we’ve got (a) a conspiracy to smuggle underaged sex slaves across the border and (b) a kinda sorta proposition to Hannah Giles. Full clip to come, if/when it’s posted.

You’re all modern-day McCarthyites for watching this. You know that, right?

nAw. His camera resets to 1995.

This one was filmed August 15 2005?

Their camera clock/calendar was wrong on the San Bernardino video, too.

schafkopf on September 16, 2009 at 10:15 PM

Excuse me. 2005.

kingsjester on September 16, 2009 at 10:16 PM

Hannah also said tonight there was never an Acorn office that refused to help them, contrary to what Acorn has said.

Not a one.

PattyJ on September 16, 2009 at 10:16 PM

This one was filmed August 15 2005?

Guardian on September 16, 2009 at 10:13 PM

No, O’Keefe has mentioned at some point that his camera defaults to 2005 and he didn’t want to mess with it.

I think it ends up making it more difficult for ACORN to figure out what offices got tagged, even if that wasn’t the purpose.

This one was filmed August 15 2005?

The kid explained that is the default date on the camera and he never set the clock. On one of the tapes you can hear in the background someone organizing a recent event.

oceansidecon on September 16, 2009 at 10:17 PM

Juan Williams was trying to play the “this isn’t that big of a deal, but it is bad” angle. I hope that ends up being the standard defense on the left. Yeah, bring up that the dollars they get aren’t that big in the grand scheme of things….this isn’t just about government waste, it isn’t even close to being primarily about that. It is about how much damage they are doing to our inner cities, and our country as a whole with government support.

Let’s see, they are supporting prostitution. They are supporting illegal immigration. They are supporting frickin’ sex trafficking of underage girls. They are destroying confidence in elections. They are supporting tax evasion. They are supporting putting criminals in our neighborhoods. They are supporting them getting houses that they will not be able to afford. They are destroying our urban communities and creating chaos wherever they can and by any means they can.

But by all means, keep arguing it isn’t that big of a deal.

I heard it was 3k, but still an interesting question. Built up “miles?”

Archimedes on September 16, 2009 at 10:11 PM

I thought about that on the off chance they were funded by some group that would seem seedy. My conclusion: does it matter? ACORN gets funding from us. If they’re breaking the law I don’t care who is paying for the expose. What is the worst that we could find out? “Big oil” paid a few thousand to fly them around and do the work the media and our own friggin’ government couldn’t be bothered to do?

Unless they were funded by human trafficking money I think we’re in the clear on that issue.

a conspiracy to smuggle underaged sex slaves across the border

Well ACORN has gone international ya know.
Hence the name Community Organizers International

Human trafficking in under-aged sex slaves is a high growth industry and fun for the whole family.

Geochelone on September 16, 2009 at 10:20 PM

What I saw very clearly showed him saying he had contacts across the border to help bring a girl across. He only hesitated when they told him it was 13 girls.

tickleddragon on September 16, 2009 at 9:58 PM

He hesitated when they said it was 12 girls, and changed the subject when they said they were 13-15-years old.

He didn’t tell them that that was unacceptable, but he moved away from that.

Hard to tell what that says about him. Perhaps he’s a scumbag who has his limits, like the killers in prison who kill their fellow prisoners who’ve preyed on children.

Or, maybe it just made him uncomfortable enough that he didn’t want to know those details and wanted to talk about logistics rather than creepy details.

Need more video.

Tuning Spork on September 16, 2009 at 10:21 PM

This may only be 58 seconds long but it is some of the most damning evidence of the type of people ACORN hires. When asked where to make the border crossing, the rep replies. “Tijuana” and when asked why, he says, pointedly, “Because I have some contacts.”

That is a mere one or two more questions from consummating a deal with this coyote and that’s a crime.

Well, I’m not sure where all they went, but I’m not sure how much money they would have had to spend so far, really.

Baltimore/ DC/ NYC… I’m not sure where they live… if in the region, how much would it cost to get to those 3 offices?

Catch a cheap flight to the LA area, and stay with a friend or relative. Rent or borrow a car, visit Santa Barbara on one day, then drive down to San Diego on another (might mean a night at a Motel 6 if they don’t want to drive back the same night and don’t have friends in the area).

An interesting thing is Bill O’Riley said that Louisiana authorities have subpoenaed Wade Rathke regarding ACORN.

[Enoxo on September 16, 2009 at 10:11 PM]

Well, that’s good to hear, if true. I happened to mention over at Ace’s that it was wierd that Jindal hadn;t piped up yet since ACORN is HQ’d out of their and these chapters send back money to NOLA for organizational expenses.

I tried looking at ACORN’s filings in Louisiana and found that they are registered as out-of-state with Little Rock, AR being their domicile. So I looked at ACORN’s filing in AR and found that they are registered with their address in Louisiana. I looked at the IRS and they only have ones ACORNs (the main one) for Louisiana and Illinois. I get the feeling now that they’re playing games with that, too.

Anyway, is Bertha Lewis the face of ACORN because ths started with Acorn Housing, or did she take over the reigns from Maude Hurd as the president of ACORN recently?

ORconservative on September 16, 2009 at 10:34 PM

We wont get fooled again

Now ACORN fights back about what they say you don’t see on that video or in similar encounters taped by O’Keefe across the country.
A visit was also paid to the Los Angeles ACORN office.
“They were turned away,” said Millicent Hill, Los Angeles ACORN office. “The individual saw right through it and said, ‘Please go away. We’re not going to discuss this with you.’ They were turned away.”
They were also turned away by ACORN in San Diego, National City, Philadelphia. And the outfits — the photographer dressed like a pimp, and the woman so scantily clad. That’s not how they dressed here, says ACORN.
Instead it was a young man who said he was attorney trying to help a young woman fleeing from her pimp. ACORN says the conservative Web sites aren’t posting that information.
“Did they investigate the other side before they put that news blurb on the air, that stink bomb — excuse my expression,” said Hill.

They clearly feel the time is right to move into the open. They’re judging that enough of the country is brainwashed, and it just takes a ‘nudge’ (I’m looking at you, Sunnstein) to push us over the edge. As last weekend and last month showed, they apparently misjudged on opposition. Unless of course, they’re counting on that, to have an excuse to clamp down. As they say, the die is cast, the game afoot, and we see how history plays out. Whatever happens, don’t anyone go down without doing your part to stand astride History, yelling ‘STOP’!

So, AP, are you going to kinda sorta eff him up?

“Smuggler boats, 29 illegal migrants found on coast.”

This one was filmed August 15 2005?

This was covered 2 days ago. Reset default.

The bloodletting continues. ACORN is exposed and their former lawyer, President Barack Obama is so fortuitously scheduled to appear on no less than 5, si sinco! TV interviews this Sunday.

I submit to all my friends at HotAir that if, by Sunday morning, you have not dont your patriotic duty and carried all the ammo through broken glass and contacted the national and local affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Univision to absolutely pummel them into doing their journalistic jobs and asking him what is the true nature of his relationship with ACORN, how they are “shaping the agenda” and what is the SEIU connection. Call it the “No More Softballs” campaign or something.

Pummel them, mercilessly.

Levin was contacted by Politico and the reporter asked whether Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck was more influential. Levin said it was like comparing George Washington to George Jefferson.
Levin also said he was sick of Beck’s self-promotion and the liberal media’s promotion of Beck.

I am really getting sick of Levin and Hannity’s backbiting of Glenn Beck. Make your shows better and stop worrying about Glenn if he is not such a threat.

Also, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are friends. And Hannity and Rush are the ones with issues. Grow up guys.

William Amos on September 16, 2009 at 10:44 PM

No, it was not an ego thing for Levin. It sounded like someone or something was trying to elevate Beck above RLimbaugh. I truly didn’t get it, was hoping someone else knew what the hell he was talking about.

They can infight all they want but this sounded stranger than egos colliding and it wasn’t about Levin it was about Beck and Limbaugh with Levin singing RL’s praises.

Sorry to go OT, I should have been clearer.

He’s been bashing on Beck since Beck’s ratings took off, and his books have done so well. What peeves me is, they’re both doing such good, and not even on in the same timeslot. Last week, a caller asked Glenn about BOR, and Glenn knows there are some hosts bashing him. He mentioned a bunch of hosts, Levin and Savage by name, saying what good work they’re doing, and if he’s done something to offend them, to contact, and he’ll make it right.

These kids are risking their lives, and you want a feature length movie?

katy the mean old lady on September 16, 2009 at 10:14 PM

??? No. That is not what I meant. I know they are risking their lives. I wasn’t being critical. I just didn’t see a lot in this clip, that’s all. My point was,, expectations are getting bigger and bigger with each new release. I only hope they are able to continue to meet the big expectations, cause if they can’t then they might want to quit while they are ahead.
I was just throwing out a thought. Please don’t get racist on me.

JellyToast on September 16, 2009 at 10:46 PM

Oh, there you go.
Except as someone who doesn’t care for Beck, I didn’t see it quite the same way.

ORconservative on September 16, 2009 at 10:46 PM

What was Mark Levin talking about at the end of his second hour? It had something to do with Beck.

what’d he say?

ted c on September 16, 2009 at 10:26 PM

Ted, I listened to Mark Levin’s show tonight (as I usually do).

Levin implied that Beck was posturing to replace Limbaugh as the voice of conservatism in talk radio (or in media generally). He said that someone (Politico?) had asked him to comment on that.

Mark Levin replied (from memory):

“Comparing Rush Limbaugh to Glenn Beck is like comparing George Washington to George Jefferson.

“He may be entertaining — and he is. He may be informative — and he is. But Glenn Beck is no Rush Limbaugh.”

ronsfi on September 16, 2009 at 10:46 PM

I’m sorry, but was anyone else underwhelmed by Hannity’s presentation of this new video? A word of advice to Andrew Breitbart, have Glenn Beck present the videos.
Glenn would have focused on the disgusting nature of these videos with feeling and give it the importance it merits. He’s great on TV.
For Hannity, it was just another segment for him to present and read off the teleprompter. cubachi on September 16, 2009 at 10:10 PM

Love Hannity & Beck but, I think it’s better that these videos aren’t just shown on the GB show since many people on the left have dismissed him as crazy. Having different videos debut on both shows reaches more people …. better in the long run. IMHO

Levin has been taking cheap shots at Beck for months. He and Hannity are jealous. Glenn is tearing up the ratings at 5

“Did they investigate the other side before they put that news blurb on the air, that stink bomb — excuse my expression,” said Hill.

do they even remember that they already said that about NYC? Yeah, the pimpnho didn’t have a problem there. I call BullSH!t unless they can produce evidence of the kicking out for being a pimpnho.
