Audio: What would Wilson say to Carter?
posted at 11:36 am on September 16, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
After Jimmy Carter accused critics of President Obama, apparently including Rep. Joe Wilson after his interjection during Barack Obama’s speech to Congress, of being racist, one might think that Wilson would have a pungent response or two to the former President. Melanie Morgan and John McCaslin gave him that opportunity on America’s Morning News today, but Wilson opted for the high road instead. He lamented the accusations of racism and told the two hosts that charges of racism only serve to distract from the deep problems in Obama’s health-care system overhaul, and that perhaps Carter would do better to focus on the issues:
Why shouldn’t Wilson take the high road? Besides the fact that “You lie!” has nothing to do with race, Wilson actually wound up winning this battle. A week after his outburst, which Wilson himself acknowledged was inappropriate and for which he had already apologized, the media finally took a closer look at the issue of illegal immigrants in ObamaCare. The Senate finally acknowledged that HR3200 needed fixing to prevent tax dollars going to illegal immigrants. Wilson raised at least $1.6 million for his next campaign.
What did the Democrats get out of it? A resolution of “disapproval” that carries no penalties at all. Its net effect was to galvanize conservatives to the defense of a backbencher that no one outside of South Carolina could have identified two weeks ago. Instead of moving forward on legislation, the House ground to a halt, not over whether Wilson should have apologized, but on the question of whether the location of his apology was sufficient.
It was a clear waste of time and effort, pursued by a House leadership desperate to distract from the fact that ObamaCare was unpopular before Barack Obama’s speech, and it remains unpopular afterward.
Heck, with that big of a win, even I could be gracious to Jimmy Carter. For a few moments, anyway.

But I thought it was cool to “speak truth to power”, to “question authority” and that “dissent is patriotic”.
But then, I’ve been in a coma since January 19, 2009, what happened?
NoDonkey on September 16, 2009 at 11:45 AM
Obama: Won’t cover illegal immigrants.
Wilson: You lie!
Carter: Overwhelming amount of dissent is racist.
Wilson: Let’s keep focused on the issues.
Obviously, he’s a racist. He treats the white Southern failed president with more courtesy than the nonwhite Northern incumbent president. Need we say more. As Rep. Johnson said, the KKK is on the march across the land. (Anyone check on the whereabouts of Sen. Byrd?)

And when will he mention that the Senate is working on fixing the coverage of illegals hole in the healthcare bill that he said didn’t exist?
shick on September 16, 2009 at 11:47 AM
If you’re not white, you are OK. Unless you’re conservative. Then you are always wrong and possibly racist.
If you are white, you’re always a racist, unless you’re a white liberal. Then you are never wrong and can’t be racist.
So the take away here is, whites are always racist except for liberals, and non-whites are never wrong about anything, unless they are conservatives.
It’s very simple.
NoDonkey on September 16, 2009 at 11:48 AM
I don’t know what Wilson would say to Carter but I would tell Carter, Go Screw Yourself……not in those exact words but close enough.
Old Hippie Vet on September 16, 2009 at 11:48 AM
That’s easy. When the person you are disagreeing with is a conservative, you can say anything you want, and you won’t be a racist.
MarkTheGreat on September 16, 2009 at 11:48 AM
If Carter feels the need to be a white apologist due to his own feelings of racism and atonment for his own past actions and thoughts in regards to minorities here in America, that is his own cross to bear and should be done privately.
It is shamefull that those comments are even given serious consideration and shows really how little regard the left and Carter have for minorities if they feel the need to be the great protectors and speakers for a section of the populace that has its own and should be perfectly willing to use a voice of their own in matters and making charges of this nature.

While I am glad he took the high road, part of me wishes that just one time, someone would shove this junk down their throats. I kind of like “I’d challenge you to say that to my face in a dark alley, but you’d just accuse me of being a racist again since I used the word “dark.”"

Man walks into a talent agents office, opens a box, takes out a tiny piano and and a very small man. The man sits down at the piano and starts playing Mozart, Bach, etc.
The man explains that he was walking along the beach one day when he found a lamp. When he rubbed the lamp he a genie popped out and granted him one wish. He then goes on to explain that the genie must have been a little hard of hearing, because the genie gave him a 12 inch pianist.

It’s going to be a lot of fun when Wilson starts spreading around that cash to other candidates because he doesn’t need it all. He’ll be able to fund challengers in a bunch of competitive districts that will help send the Dems back to the minority.

The Race Card is the most rapid-fire all purpose ad hominem vapid weapon of smear and mass deception and diversion ever conceived by man. It is a weapon under which weak minds are servilely crouched and can be fired with the greatest of ease by even the most intellectually and morally challenged, and in fact, is especially designed for use by them. It is void of justice. It has no rationality. It has little rhyme. It has no expiration date. It doesn’t even appear to have a half life. There are those who theorize that it may continue to exist indefinitely in some form even after time itself has come to an end.
MB4 on September 16, 2009 at 12:07 PM
The other lie is that the bill doesn’t cover abortions. It does according to Rep. Bart Supak (D-MI) this morning on Fox under the Capps Amendment.
Supporters keep saying that abortions aren’t covered because of the Hyde Amendment which forbides abortions to be covered under Medicaid. However, under the Capps Amendment abortions would be covered under the public option plan.
Rep. Supak said he believes he has enough votes to stop the bill just on abortions. He also stated that he has been trying to see the President to discuss this. So far, no such luck.
This is all a shell game.

Unfortunately, not that easy. The malignant growth on the body politic that is Jimmy Carter cannot be denied.
rrpjr on September 16, 2009 at 12:10 PM
Who are the people who are constantly focusing on race?
Most Conservatives find it an irrelevant issue – it’s the Statists, the “Progressives” that are constantly obsessing over the issue of race.
With their propensity for Projection, maybe they should change their labeling from ‘Progressives’ to “Projectives?”
What do you think?
Chainsaw56 on September 16, 2009 at 12:13 PM
Wilson said what he said not because the national conversation grows coarse but because the nations attitudes are hardening. The middle ground is all but gone. The line in the sand is turning into a stonewall.

It’s hilarious that, even with the Dems controlling Congress, the White House, and the MSM, Carter is so easily swept aside, while Wilson and his condemnation of Obama stay in their face.

How many times was Joe Wilson invited on the Sunday shows BEFORE this incident?
Ok, sure, he didn’t get as many appearances on the Sunday shows as Obama is getting this weekend, but he’s not the President.
hawksruleva on September 16, 2009 at 1:52 PM
Your 2nd point is very true. But your first point probably isn’t. Black people have voted D for years, despite the damage being done in inner cities. The Jewish vote goes D, despite their weakness on foreign policy in general, and Israel in particular. Youths vote D, despite the inevitable burden they inherit when liberals increase spending by borrowing money.
Never assume that Dems will suffer when their voters wise up. Their voters tend never to wise up.
