Jimmy Carter: The “overwhelming” portion of animosity towards Obama is racist

posted at 9:01 pm on September 15, 2009 by Allahpundit

Deep thoughts from the guy whose book on Israel was most recently plugged by, um, Osama Bin Laden. I’m tempted to tout Jesse Walker’s Reason piece for the third time today on HA as an explanation for Jimmeh’s cynicism here, but I can’t quite do it. The difference between Carter and most of the left, I think, is that he really believes this crap. And, to boot, he really believes he’s doing good by mentioning it rather than poisoning race relations by equating opposition to government expansion with white supremacism.

It’s pointless to try to explain to people like this that they’re well well well into “boy who cried wolf” territory when it comes to the race card, but Brit Hume’s going to try. You’ll find the clip of that below the Carter video.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Update (Ed): Just FYI, conservative blogs seem to be plagued at the moment by trolls using racially inflammatory language as a way to make Carter’s point. We’ve warned about this before, but I’ll say it again — people making racist comments in these threads will get banned with no warning and no debate. If you can’t make your point without dropping the “N” word or a variant, then hit the road. I’ve deleted several such comments, as well as responses that excerpted the language.

How can anyone ascribe any credence to an anti-semite in the first place. Jimmy Carter has no credibility, he demonstrated that when his held the Office that Obama is currently occupying. The best thing we, as a country, can do is to turn our backside to Jimmy and shun him for being an anti-semite. We should ignore him because he is nothing more than a political hack pushing the meme of “It’s America’s fault for what is wrong in the world”.

Jimmah, its time for you to STFU and slide off into the sunset.

skitch1 on September 16, 2009 at 9:55 AM

The Patriot Act created surveillance powers that have no expiration date.

If that is the case, why does BHO have to extend them?

Additionally, little is known of all the rights given to the federal government for tracking people. The Patriot Act gave the government more authority than granted under the Constitution.

Hint, we’re fighting an enemy that is hiding among us. Do you want them to know how we can track them, so they can devise methods to escape the surveillance? Given what has happened in New York this week kinda brings that fact to light once again.

Given the freedoms removed by the Patriot Act and the Bush Administration it is very curious that Conservatives are now using phases of “Tyranny” against the current administration.

Seizing control of one fifth of the economy and instituting new goverment regulations on ALL citizens from cradle to grave is far more invasive than the Patriot Act. At least the Patriot Act still has provisions to protect freedoms in it. ObamaCare seeks to eliminate any of that.

It is also very curious that Conservatives are now up in arms over government spending that has been out of control for longer than the 6 months that Obama has been President.

Then you don’t read much past Daily KOS and the Huffington Report. Conservatives WERE worried about the spending, but saw the need, as we were fighting an enemy with no central location and global reach. BUT, BHO hasn’t been in office a year yet, and has already jacked the annual deficit to a point Bush didn’t reach with 4 years combined! The deficit spending up to through month of July alone raised the debt more than bush’s last 3 years combined.

In other words, when you hitch your post to one political party for party loyalty reasons you reap what you sow. If Conservatives are truly Conservatives they will not align themselves to a particular political party. There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Decider on September 16, 2009 at 9:01 AM

I guess BHO really has you snowed. If you cannot see the change in direction government goes in based on who runs congress and who’s in the White House, then you should pull your head out of your ass and look around sometime.

And where is Carter’s,Maureen Dowd’s,kurtz’s,and other liberals proof of all this “racism” coming from the “extremist”.
Well there is none.
None at all.
Just these liberals “feelings” and imaginary pronouncements of hearing “boy” in their heads.

The stereotypical bigotry of liberals to believe that Obama is so great that no one can appose him unless it is based on the color of his skin is breathtakingly ignorant.

The goalposts have been moved so far that you now don’t even have to have actually said or done anything racist,it is just so because liberals “believe it” to be so.

Expose Charlie Rangel’s tax corruption…..smear campaign because some people can’t handle a black man in a powerful position.

Expose Van Jones support of cop killers, his admittance to being a communist and 9/11 truther…..Smear and lie campaign to bring down another successful black man.

Expose ACORN’s support of prostitution, tax evasion, voter fraud, and trafficking in child prostitution…. lie and smear campaign to bring down minorities.

Expose Obama’s lies,dis-information,and hypocrisy on just about every political issue….you are a racist and can’t handle a black man being President.

Besides the pathetically transparent racial hustling going on by liberals there is another main theme that is consistent:…liberals have not produced any proof or actual words and actions to back up these “racist” accusations supposedly perpetrated in a systematic manner.

None…
Nada…..

In fact, the only people constantly talking and passing judgment based on the color of someone’s skin is the very people yelling the loudest about it.

Jeff Goldstein used to bat these sorts of things out of the park…

Is there no word that isn’t Rethuglican code for “negro”?

Of course there isn’t. Because recall, in today’s linguistic environment, the code is in the eye of the beholder / receiver — and can be either conveniently divorced from the intent of the encoder, or else attributed to conscious or unconscious attitudes the encoder is said to hold (in this case, the “proof” being that McCain and Palin are Republicans, and so are naturally inveterate racists).

Damn, I miss Jeff G.’s take on things relating to language and intent.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary: Racism
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

The Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines Racism as: “racial prejudice or discrimination”

In other words: ‘Judging people based on their race’

Question: Who is constantly judging people based on their race?

Who is constantly impugning the motives of people based on what race they are?

What group continually uses race to determine people’s motives?

We don’t really know the reason’s behind the animosity towards Obama, but we DO know that Jimmy Carter and others are Judging people based on what race they are.

So who are the TRUE racists????

Chainsaw56 on September 16, 2009 at 10:10 AM

Like the birthers and truthers before him, former President Carter is investing in a ridiculous, unfounded idea that fits his ideological agenda. I suggest we call such believers “HATERS,” because they believe a big portion of our country simply hates and does not have legitamite concerns about government policy. This is a minority view according to Rasmussen, BTW….they find only 12% of Americans agree with Carter, notably 78% of independents disagree with him! Jimmy Carter….a hater….he has cast a harsh judgement on the hearts of his fellow Americans and I will not join him in being so arrogant and hateful.

I wish we had youtube from the 1960′s. I was living in Georgia at the time and saw a debate on TV between Jimmy Carter and his Atlanta opponent. I think Julian Bond was running for election for something from the Atlanta area. Carter’s opponent has to say that he was going to vote for Julian Bond. Carter put a big fat grin on his face and said: I can’t vote for him because I am not in his district. And then said I AM SUPPORTING GEORGE WALLACE. I think Jimmy Carter is at heart a racist and believes that others are also.

So tell me. If a Republican wins the White House in 2012 do you seriously think the deficit goes away, all government spending stops, the world has endless prosperity, public schools get better, all abortions stop, and we defeat all threats against the country?

No. If a Republican replaces Obama in 2012, the endless political cycle continues and the government continues to spend. There is no difference between Obama and Bush. Just different cheerleaders. You sir are simply a Republican cheerleader. A pawn to be used for Fox News ratings.

Decider on September 16, 2009 at 10:26 AM

How about we DON’T give news cycles away to people who became irrelevant DECADES ago?

How about we focus on the vulnerabilities of the radical regime we find ourselves under and stop giving credence to whatever hapless distraction they throw up onto the wall hoping one would stick?

Carter’s observation is as predictable as it is specious. EVERYONE would be more surprised if he sprouted butterfly wings and started sprinkling fairy dust than if he had claimed that criticism of the only president to share his political delusions is based on anything other than hatred.

Let’s ignore the old fool and keep undermining the popular front that’s keeping HR3200 afloat.

The more pressure we put on ACORN is more pressure on SEIU. The more marginalized and vulnerable SEIU becomes on a national framework is less pressure on Blue Dogs to compromise. The less pressure on blue dogs to compromise means a weakened or even defeated HR3200.

from abcnews in headlines.

It’s not every day that you hear a Democratic senator charge that a fellow Democrat is proposing to raise taxes on the middle class, but that is what happened on Tuesday when Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., ripped into the health-care bill developed by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mt., the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

The Baucus proposal would impose, starting in 2013, a 35 percent excise tax on insurance companies for “high-cost plans” — defined as those above $8,000 for individuals and $21,000 for family plans.

Health economists believe a tax on high-priced benefits could help slow the growth of health costs by making consumers more sensitive to prices.

The tax contemplated by Baucus is also a big revenue raiser. It is expected to raise $200 billion, money that Baucus is hoping to use to pay for subsidies for the uninsured.

So, Jimmah… Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat, rips the Baucus bill that would, by proxy, be a slap at Obama’s plan and equate to opposition.Does this mean you’re calling Jay Rockefeller, D-WV a racist for this move? Pray tell

Obama’s election has made race relations much worse — not because Conservatives dislike blacks but because Liberals hate Conservatives and screaming “RACIST!” has always successfully shut down debate before.

Unfortunately, overusing any tactic eventually makes the tactic toothless. That is happening now.

hachiban on September 16, 2009 at 12:00 PM

Jimmy Carter makes me hate white people from Georgia.

Blacklake on September 16, 2009 at 12:01 PM

Mr. Carter .. Prove It

J_Crater on September 16, 2009 at 12:03 PM

Jimmy Carter suffers from white guilt, probably from growing up in the deep south, and cant come up with any logical reasons why people dont like this communist regime in the whitehouse.
.
.
.

William Ayers suffers from white guilt, probably from seeing his father drive around in the best that money can buy, as he was CEO of a utility company in Chicago. He couldn’t use logic to figure out why black people suffered, so he lashed out with bombs.
.
.
.

Illogical people who suffer from white guilt are very dangerous people. When things dont go their way, the first thing they turn to is “DISCRIMINATION!!!!!” “RAAAAAAAAAACIST!!!”

Logical people in general believe that we all are responsible for our own happiness, and our own well-being, as most successful people are.

I guess i just wanted to point out the similarities between Jimmy Carter and Bill Ayers, both dangerous in their own rights.

UNREPENTANT CONSERVATIVE CAPITOLIST on September 16, 2009 at 12:03 PM

The only people this nonsense hurts is the people who believe Carter.

It’s too bad too. I’m sure there are a lot of African Americans out there who are being taught that criticism directed towards them is always racial in nature, and that at any moment white people might just start riding through the hills again in white sheets.

Not much we can do about it either.

Like this from Jules Crittenden: Race Card

The moment has arrived for President Obama to start working on his legacy as the first post-racial president. Either that, or to face a legacy of having the most racially divisive presidency in modern American history.

It is time for President Obama to take the race card off the table.

Loxodonta on September 16, 2009 at 12:15 PM

Failed president now claims his critics are using racial code words just like a, uh, “typical white person.”

viking01 on September 16, 2009 at 12:15 PM

Cater’s claim is pure unsubstantiated political bunk. People have hated on every president since I can remember (post JFK), not the least of which was Carter himself. Get used to it.

Kenosha Kid on September 16, 2009 at 12:17 PM

Did you understand my question?

Certain groups are using race to make judgment calls on people,
as in claiming that Joe Wilson made that remark not because Obama is a Liar, but because of his race.

Doesn’t that itself fit the definition of Racism?

Chainsaw56 on September 16, 2009 at 11:45 AM

I never said Wilson was a racist however coming to that conclusion is simple:

1. He is from South Carolina.
2. He voted to keep the confederate flag on the capitol.
3. This type of outburst has never happened on the floor of the congress before. He has a transcript of the speech so no “surprises”.
4. He is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans who want secession and defend slavery.

No it is not the definition of racism. It is more like prejudice or bigotry. My guess is that Wilson is so ingrained in hatred of Obama that comes from living on South Carolina that he actually thought others will join him in his outcry.

We can point out that it is the Left that incessantly complains about racial issues.
It is they who focus on people’s race and not their character.
We can point out that it is the leftist that are the true racists.
It is they who judge people based on skin color.

daesleeper on September 16, 2009 at 12:21 PM

sometimes i think the liberals us racism to keep us divided. because if we all look around we all are having trouble and are struggling i dont care what race you are. if we dont have racism to focus on in the news the people would see that we ALL are getting screwed and if we get together we can change govt. but the liberal way of thinking is centered on this perceved racism that is allegedly ramped in the u.s. Yes there are a few dummies out there but hey carter fyi most people could care less about race we just want people to do the right thing

Funny how Republicans seem to forget they rose to power using a technique known as the Southern Strategy. Bush43 even apologized for using that strategy in the past.

Is anyone here old enough to remember Jesse Helms? Jesse Helms was about to lose an election to a Black man, Harvey Gantt. He told White people in the now famous Hands Ad in North Carolina that if Grantt wins he will take their jobs and give them to Black people. Helms won reelection using that tactic.

Glenn Beck is currently using the same technique to solidify his audience. Republicans can act sanctimonious now about racism but it is was a major element of the Republican party’s past and is a major element of it’s future. We see it used everyday on Fox News.

Decider on September 16, 2009 at 12:34 PM

I’m sure this has been said, but the problem with the “racism” card and why it’s currency is depreciating is that it can’t be proved. The charge therefore is essentially un-American. It requires an assumption of bad faith. After awhile, this wears on the public consciousness and our collective sense of fairness. Making the charge indiscriminantly means sooner or later you’re going to accuse someone we all know and either like, trust or don’t believe is a racist, thus bringing home the sense of unfairness. I mean, maybe WE’LL be next.

I never said Wilson was a racist however coming to that conclusion is simple:

Great! You contradicted yourself in the first sentence.

1.He is from South Carolina.

So do a lot of other people, are they ALL racists?

2. He voted to keep the confederate flag on the capitol.

So?

3. This type of outburst has never happened on the floor of the congress before. He has a transcript of the speech so no “surprises”.

I guess you don’t know your history, do you? I guess the Boos of President Bush don’t count?

4. He is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans who want secession and defend slavery.

So You’re saying that Everyone that is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans
wants that?

No it is not the definition of racism. It is more like prejudice or bigotry. My guess is that Wilson is so ingrained in hatred of Obama that comes from living on South Carolina that he actually thought others will join him in his outcry.
Decider on September 16, 2009 at 12:18 PM

All extremely weak and circumstantial arguments.
Did you read the definition?

Racism
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

It doesn’t matter anyways, The point is that we don’t really know Why he did that, but we do know that people are judging him based on his race – and that in and of itself is Racism.

Bambi on September 16, 2009 at 12:44 PM

1. He is from South Carolina.

Anyone from SC is a racist.

2. He voted to keep the confederate flag on the capitol.

Carter served under the Stars And Bars of Georgia for 4 years as Governor, and spent 4 years as POTUS without complaint.

3. This type of outburst has never happened on the floor of the congress before. He has a transcript of the speech so no “surprises”.

You’re sure about this, right? No member of Congress has called the POTUS a “liar” on the floor of the House?

4. He is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans who want secession and defend slavery.

You’ll need to back this up with OQE. BTW, Abe Lincoln defended slavery, and argued that states had the right to secede. Was good ol’ Abe a racist?

No it is not the definition of racism. It is more like prejudice or bigotry.

Sorta like a really outpoken version of Rev’s. Jackson and Sharpton.

My guess is that Wilson is so ingrained in hatred of Obama that comes from living on South Carolina that he actually thought others will join him in his outcry.

The liberal inside peeks out here. “I thought of it, so it can only be true. I have the power to make official judgements of other people based my ability to guess.”

Keep developing that gift, and one day maybe you too can become the White House press secretary and tell us what others actually meant, even if it seems in direct controversion to the words used.

Right. The parties switched in the 1960s due to the Southern Strategy. Yes. The party of Lincoln is no longer the Republican party. The Republican Party is the party of Helms and Limbaugh.
