Video: Joe Wilson autographing photos of his outburst now?

posted at 5:35 pm on September 14, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s hard to tell for absolute sure what he’s doing but it sure looks like that’s what he’s doing, especially when you watch the full-sized version. (The photo in question is here.) I don’t mind him raising money off the notoriety in order to defend himself from the nutroots money bomb but the rock-star pose is starting to grate, especially given the perverse incentive it creates for loose cannons on both sides to pop off. Maybe that House censure isn’t such a bad idea after all. Or, given that it’ll only further endear him to guys like this, is it?

When a Republican is president again, we won’t think it’s awesome anymore.

Too bad Joe Wilson didn’t give Zero the finger. There would be a line around the block for photos.

But he’s really sorry. Honest!

but the rock-star pose is starting to grate, especially given the perverse incentive it creates for loose cannons on both sides to pop off.

What, why? I’d watch a lot more CNN if it was like the British Parliament. If they are yelling, at least they aren’t playing solitaire.

I think this is awesome, it’s way past time that conservatives go on hardcore offense and never stop.

Maximum aggression, Hard facts, No apologies.

Sugarbuzz on September 14, 2009 at 5:41 PM

Exactly. Why should conservatives have to apologize? Liberals never have to, and they have far more jackass-ery than conservatives could ever imagine.

lorien1973 on September 14, 2009 at 5:42 PM

I like it, too. Certainly nothing to get wee-wee’d up about.

I disagree. If a republican president lies, then more power to the dems who yell out “you lie!” If they yell it out when the president is NOT lying, that’ll backfire.

Daggett on September 14, 2009 at 5:43 PM

He is a ROCK STAR!!

He is the only Republican who was able to get a specific amendment to the monster bill adding specifics about Illegal immigrants.

In order for the Demcorats to claim Joe Wilson wrong they had to insert this language into the bill.

This is a BIG DEAL.

Elizabetty on September 14, 2009 at 5:43 PM

If someone asked him for his autograph on it?

Wouldn’t it be churlish NOT to give it?

Its not like he has presigned 8×10 glossies is it?

Romeo13 on September 14, 2009 at 5:44 PM

I seriously don’t understand what the fuss is about.

In just about any parliament in the World (including the UK), representatives shout out and heckle all the time.

In South Korea they frequently have bushido fights.

I thought the Dems WANTED to make the US more similar to other civilized countries, including copying their healthcare system. No?

milwife88 on September 14, 2009 at 5:49 PM

A House censure will simply confirm its duplicitous nature.

House members insinuating that Bush is a Nazi, repeatedly and with malice aforethought: free speech.

Joe Wilson, in the heat of the moment, calls Obama on what is a lie and apologizes for it: worthy of censure.

And its worthy of censure because you don’t think he really means it? Because you want to prevent cranks from both parties from taking liberties in supposedly solemn occasions?

First: that cat’s already out of the bag.

Second: Solemn occasion? Only in form. Not in function. Obama called a joint session to promote his partisan agenda. He sullied it by making it about one of the most contentious issues this nation has seen in the past 50 years. National security? Fine. Major disaster? Fine. Complete financial collapse? Fine. Health care hobby horse? Please.

spmat on September 14, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Aw, come on, AP. The guy is a rock star now. Where is your sense of humor? So far he is one of the few Republicans that has stood up and he revealed Obama’s….. ahhh….. nakedness. That deserves lots of money to his campaign fund. Maybe the rest of the Pubbies will figure it out and start responding. So far they have been sitting on their hands. It’s time to start figuring out how to stop the Obama Express. Joe Wilson is on the right track.

BetseyRoss on September 14, 2009 at 5:49 PM

Fuzzlenutter on September 14, 2009 at 5:50 PM

I have no problem with this. When we look back on these dark ages, there will be notorious moments worthy of being classified such as the Van Jones takedown, the Joe Wilson shout-out, the Death Panel remark, Chris Matthews’ sign-off show (wishful thinking).

sherry on September 14, 2009 at 5:51 PM

farright on September 14, 2009 at 5:51 PM

What in the world? Decrying a “rock-star pose”?

The man has been mild-mannered and reasonable in his understandably sought after public appearances since the event and has been pointed that he knows he should not have called out like that nor has he encouraged even implicitly anyone to emulate his outburst.

Knocking him for signing a photo presented by a supporter doesn’t rise to that level.

Please point the umbrage to the Dems who won’t accept an immediate and sincere apology directed to the target and want to ruin this man, who by all available information to date is an honorable and decent man with a fine family.

When a Republican is president again and a Dem shouts out something like that you can be sure there will not be an immediate and sincere apology proffered by the perp nor will ensuing public appearances discussing why they called out “liar” or whatever they yell will they articulate solid, fact-filled reasons to explain their frustration that led to such an outburst.

I don’t have a problem with it. So some guy comes over and asks him to sign a picture. So what? He earned it.
He stood up and made a difference. He did something others were afraid to do.

JellyToast on September 14, 2009 at 6:00 PM

Joe tried to warn them
But they held their blue noses up high
All the time he warned them
But they only passed him by

He tried to tell them
But I guess they didn’t care
They turned their backs and
Left him standing there

All the destroyed parts of America that have fallen after him
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everything Obama trashed each time he closed a freedom door
Destroyed parts of America lost forevermore

Obama tried to get me to take a job a while ago
When I saw it was just printing more fiat money for his thugs and cronies I didn’t want to go
The country the Founding Fathers gave to me
Obama is trying to tear it all away
Now there’s nothing left for me to say

All the destroyed parts of America that have fallen after him
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everything Obama trashed each time he closed a freedom door
Destroyed parts of America lost forevermore

When years have passed they’ll start thinking
What fools they’ve been
They’ll look back into the past and
Think of way back then
They’ll know that America lost everything they thought that it could win
I guess they should have listened to their friends

All the destroyed parts of America that have fallen after him
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everything Obama trashed each time he closed a freedom door
Destroyed parts of America lost forevermore

Destroyed parts of America lost forevermore

I can tell you right now, there are probably about 60 House Republicans who wish they’d yelled out.

Through Wilson’s sudden star status and incredible week of fundraising from plain people all over the country, they’re seeing first hand what standing up, growing a pair, and reconnecting with us, the sleeping giant, will mean.

And that’s a good thing.

We have a “nonentity” as a sitting president so why shouldn’t others be able to compete. And by the way, Wilson’s charge was valid and correct albeit rather abrupt and therefore the rationality of his behavior is self evident.

rplat on September 14, 2009 at 6:07 PM

Joe Wilson shouldn’t have yelled out, but he apologized immediately and graciously and his apology was accepted by Obama in the spirit in which it was given. That should have been the end of it. The blame for all the hype lies squarely at the feet of the denizens of Obamaland, led by Pelosi, for blowing things totally out of proportion, as usual. Make Congress more like the British Parliament and you’ll have a more informed and engaged electorate. Maybe even get a few Dan Hannans (yes, I know he’s in the EU Parliament, but you get what I mean) along the way. And, to echo something I read earlier in the thread, I would be thrilled if Democrats in Congress would call out the President when he is outright lying, whether he be Republican or Democrat. It’s not as if Wilson yelled out because he disagreed, the President was lying and he even acknowledged it through actually doing something about identity verification later on.
