Quotes of the day

posted at 10:35 pm on September 14, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Obama Derangement Syndrome is establishing itself as a potent political force, able to rally tens of thousands of citizens to the Washington Mall after Glenn Beck’s call. Joe Wilson’s outburst isn’t an embarrassment of incivility to these folks; it is a rallying cry for an army of useful idiots. But Republicans will soon find that they cannot contain or moderate this strain—while Democrats won’t understand what hit them…

Republicans are playing a dangerous game. They are benefitting from all this anger in the short term, but they have tapped into something deep and ugly that they can’t control. Calling the president a communist or even Hitler is something far beyond simple incivility or street theater—it is an accusation that intentionally stirs the crazy pot. It is ultimately an incitement to violence.”

A man who in 2008 made verbal threats towards Bush at the White House fence where he left a suspicious package;
- A student who was quoted in a 2007 school publication as saying, “I would like to shoot George W. Bush, because in my opinion he is the worst president ever. After that was accomplished, I would be known as a national hero”;
- A mentally deranged man who threatened to blow up the White House in January of 2009;

Epic fail.

Name me one person, just one, that said “gosh i’d like to vote for obama, but those 9/11 truthers freak me out”, or “man, i was GOING to vote for Chris Christie as governor of New Jersey, but because of ‘birthers’ I won’t do it”

Who does that?

NO ONE decides ‘how to vote’ based on their aversion to a fringe if the office is important.

Many of us just hate the out of control spending.

I do not hate Barack Obama. He is probably a nice enough guy personally. I just hate that he is weak on George Bush’s strengths and doubles down on most of George Bush’s weaknesses (like spending). That is a problem.

I do not think he is a traitor, communist, or satanist. I do think he leans way more socialist than I would like and is definitely a statist.

The dude is in for a terrible epiphone, and that sooner rather than later.

The tea party folks know exactly what they are doing, and what emotions they are tapping in to. While the leftists have been teaching “Moral relativism”, the tea party folks have been teaching about the Constitution and actual civil rights & civil liberties.

Obama, Axelrod, Rham and the rest are about to be schooled in what Americans REALLY hold as value.

AW1 Tim on September 14, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Calling the president a communist or even Hitler is something far beyond simple incivility or street theater—it is an accusation that intentionally stirs the crazy pot.

Appointing somebody with an agenda that includes poisoning water to sterilize citizens, forced abortions, and eugenics seems to be an attack on the American people.

But what do I know – I’m just some crazy right winger in the crazy pot! (Say it to yourself in your best Beck “over the top” voice and it’s even funnier.)

You can bet if a city or two gets poisoned, there’s going to be some hell to pay. I’m sure the leftist/collectivists writing this tripe don’t bother to read what the right is reading. You’d think they’d oppose a genocidal maniac with cartoonish supervillain schemes (like blocking the sun to prevent global warming) in government, but he’s one of theirs – and identity politics is more important than citizens being sterilized, murdered – or like Cass Sunstein suggests – being harvested for organs since the state has a claim on your internals.

First I was hoping for the Frum article in the headlines as QoTD but ah this is just as interesting. Second – Where were these idiots calling for civility the last 8 years?

The lesson I learned from all this: If you’re a Lefty you have freedom to deride and hate your opposition, once in power call for civility, its easier to beat the other side if you weaken their voice.

What’s worse some on the Right want to help weaken their supposed side willingly and vocally.

Marginalize, marginalize, marginalize…

Be a liberal and call Bush a warmonger, Stalin, Hitler, burn him in effigy, hey NO PROBLEM.

Call Obama a ‘communist’ and those people are dangerous?

LMFAO It’s ludicrous.

Here’s another newsflash. Glenn didn’t start this. Glenn isn’t the ringleader. We have no ringleader, no official organization, no matter who acts like they’re part of that or would like to have us follow.

We, the people…are there because of what we believe.

Now THAT is the scary part. No leader, no party, no offices, no funding. Just a bunch of pissed off Americans who vote. Principles before party. Principles before candidates.

Knucklehead on September 14, 2009 at 10:50 PM

The difference between calling George W Bush a fascist and Obama a fascist is that there is an argument that whereas George W Bush cannot rationally be called a fascist, Obama is a socialist who can be called a fascist.

Fascism is national socialism, a form of socialism, one variant of which was Mussolini’s Italy and another variant of which was Hitler’s Germany. Obama’s platform is far, far closer to national socialism that what George W Bush’s platform was.

George W Bush spent too much money, but he is committed to capitalism and democratic governance under the U.S. Constitution. Obama is a socialist and has been taped saying that the problem with the U.S. Constitution is that it only restrains the Government.

Greta had 3 women who were in the news because of their passion in the August Townhall meetings. After going to a couple of Tea Party protests myself I can say that these women embodied the main principles of the movement:
Stop the spending; Listen to us, you constituents; Stop trying to redesign our society with our money, money you think is yours for the taking; Let real competition rule the day and prices will go down and freedom with ring throughout this great land.
That’s it; it’s not about race; it’s about core sanity. And many in the press and the punditry just don’t get it.

Some people are just dense.

Eric Holder tells Avlon, “Don’t worry. This is a nation of cowards.”

Rev Lowery tells Avlon, “I told you at the inauguration speech that we are still waiting for white to embrace what’s right, cracker.”

John Holdren tells Avlon, “Don’t worry, we’ll just sterilize them through the water and it will all be done in a generation.”

Van Jones tells Avlon, “You’re right. These people are crazy. They actually think that communists are bad people.”

The Precedent tells Avlon, “Don’t worry. I’ll call them names, lie my a$$ off, and impugn their motives at every opportunity. I used to seek out the marxist professors in college because they knew where it was at. I can’t believ that anyone is threatened by marxism. That’s just silly.”

The Precedent tells Avlon, “Don’t worry. We’re going to finally break free from the constraints the Founders placed in our Constitution. I’m going to shred that baby like nobody’s business. Thanks for the help. Useful idiots are the key to every collectivist nightmare.”

Lots of posts over the sentences above but I’ve just gotta say this. GWB was called much worse than a communist or Hitler. So why wasn’t this whole idea that we need to protect the President from such rhetoric visible then? Why was such “incivility or street theater” then okay but now that a socialist is in office? The filthy liar’s party wanted civility, they should have been better during the last administration. Now it’s all about protecting America from the bastard destroying this nation and all his allies in Congress.

people respond to glenn beck. he has 3 million viewers a day at 2pm pacific, 4pm central.

i guess i dont get the rightwing “we’re supposed to be embarrassed about beck” from the frums of the world (not you). i mean, the left doesnt whimper about bill maher or michael moore, so why are we constantly trying to be liked?

Nice wrap up Glenn.

I saw somewhere a comment that said we are unarmed this time.

Apparently, there were about 8 guys from Montana and Utah who were pro-second amendment (aren’t we all?). I think one was in the arms business. Their sign said “We came from Montana and Utah unarmed…..this time.” You gotta love it.

Dave, I knew a fence sitter once. Then he fell off.

Into a pit of alligators I hope.

A few days ago Drywall claimed to be an MP of the Canadian Parliament. Said you can contact him via there.

Hopefully they upped his meds.

Republicans are playing a dangerous game. …It is ultimately an incitement to violence.

That sounds like a veiled threat

Kralizec on September 14, 2009 at 11:11 PM

I cannot tell you how many times I have been threatened with violence covering leftist anti-war rallies over the last few years. Heck, I was even hit in the face with the wooden handle of a ‘peace’ sign carried by none other than Brian Becker, head organizer for A.N.S.WE.R. Coalition at an anti-war rally at West Point after explaining to him politely that he had a right to protest and I had a right to take pictures. I have also seen others threatened with physical force at these pre-Obama street demos. The police were always there to keep them in line and to basically keep them from stringing up anyone carrying an American flag in the middle of New York City. The hypocrisy here is reeking beyond belief.

Interesting (by which I mean disgusting) how you equate passion with crazy. I’m not willing to buy into everything Beck has to say on face value and he sometimes leaves me questioning what the heck he is doing but, to call him crazy is offensive. For example, I don’t buy into his 56 leaders mantra because I think we need a different approach where we have far more people involved.

Bottom line Beck isn’t crazy, you are ninjapirate.

Calling the president a communist or even Hitler is something far beyond simple incivility or street theater—it is an accusation that intentionally stirs the crazy pot. It is ultimately an incitement to violence.”

What was that, you Daily Beast mouth-breather?

That was just patriotic dissent, right?

I’ve been a civil conservative for far to long. I am the “mob” and I no longer concern myself with being civil. Liberal feelings are no longer a concern to me.

karen32862 on September 14, 2009 at 11:16 PM

The way John Avlon and his ilk carry on, you’d think they *wanted* some lunatic to make an attempt on Obama’s life — if only to justify these beer-goggled “See!..we told you so!” op-ed’s.

The more they play their tired racism cards, the sillier they look.

We’re in a “post-racial” America now baby.

Apparently Allah is a really great guy. I rarely see it myself but the gushing accolades from people I respect tells me there is a decent human being lurking behind the Christ-hating McCain-loving persona presented here. Who knew?

highhopes on September 14, 2009 at 11:19 PM

Republicans are playing a dangerous game. They are benefitting from all this anger in the short term, but they have tapped into something deep and ugly that they can’t control. Calling the president a communist or even Hitler is something far beyond simple incivility or street theater—it is an accusation that intentionally stirs the crazy pot. It is ultimately an incitement to violence.”

AP: I am really, really starting to enjoy your style: riling up the mobs, chumming the water…It’s fascinating to me that (until the time I read this and logged on to repsond…someone could have beat me to it and I didn’t see it)no one thus far has challenged your premise.

There is the old saying about being careful what you wish for because you might get it. And I think conservatives (not republicans) are willing to take that chance. We are in it for the long haul, knowing what is at stake. Yes, every. single. solitary. tiny. little. victory will be made out to be the most vitriolic, horrible, demonistic deliberately harmful act Evah.
An aside to perhaps put things in perspective:
I am the mother of two 20-something boys. This means I have EARNED every would-be-gray hair on my stubbornly natural blonde head.
There were many, many occasions when I found out, after-the-fact, that my kids did something I would have adamently disapproved of.
I remember one such occasion when I railed against my oldest, citing all the dire consequences that could have transpired.
He responded with something like:
“Would you relax! Nobody got hurt, nobody even puked, and only one guy peed in the pool.”
I was still mad, he was still punished, but it does kinda put things in perspective.
I think the folks that have roused this sleeping giant (getting to be a cliche, but still very apropos)are well aware of the risks, but they feel the rewards are more than worth it. I know I do. I’m happy to be called every ugly name in the book if it means preserving liberty. In fact, it pales in comparison to being asked to lay down your life for freedom, which our soldiers do day after day after day. I betcha most of the folks who are posting here tonight would choose the latter option if the converse was to relinquish that freedom.
That’s what you kind of consistently don’t get (or pimp, just to be perverse). The saying “Live Free or Die.” isn’t just an empty slogan. In other words, you can’t subsitute the phrase,”Eat here, get gas.”

sesquipedalian on September 14, 2009 at 11:19 PM

John Avlon must be sad Glenn hasn’t invited him back on.

This “anger” has accumulated since the Bush administration and we’re not just annoyed with democrats, but with republicans who continue to treat us negatively and don’t follow the GOP platform at all.
You think we forget about TARP, capping CEO salaries, Porkulus, auto bailouts, cap & tax, S-CHIP, etc.?
There were republicans that voted for this crap, and Bush started it all, and Obama sped up and enlarged the process to exorbitant proportions.
