Regarding the polls, Rasmussen has a new one out today: Support for ObamaCare down to 45% for / 52% against, after 51% for / 46% against yesterday. Since these are both two-day averages, with Sept. 13 (Sunday) included in both of them, this could reflect an even bigger one-day shift.

The million-plus Tea Partiers who didn’t answer their phones over the weekend are back home now, razzing ObamaCare on the Ras poll.

A lot has been written about the “fallout” should the Dems use “the nuclear option”. How the Republicans could grind the Senate to a halt by requiring every bill to be read each time it is considered, etc. (seems a shame they didn’t do that with the porkulous bill and the bailouts).

Most of what I have read about ramming health care reform through the Senate using reconciliation has been about whether the President or the Senate dares to go that route. And if they do, then what will be the political consequences, if any, from the Republicans in Congress.

But here is my point. Back in the 60s there was a slogan, “What if they gave a war and nobody came?” My question is what if they pass the government option with personal mandates that carry stiff fines for noncompliance AND what if millions of Americans refuse to participate?

If only a few refused, I’m sure they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And if lots of people refused to participate, some would be prosecuted in an attempt to cow the rest into compliance. But what if millions of Americans refused? Isn’t one of the Alinsky rules to overload the system?

I want to be very clear that I am not encouraging or suggesting that anyone should commit civil disobedience by refusing to comply with laws passed by our duly elected representatives. I’m just raising a theoretical question in the hopes of encouraging vigorous debate.
