CNN to Gibbs: Does Obama think tea partiers are racist?

posted at 2:45 pm on September 13, 2009 by Allahpundit

His response, especially the bit about “hot rhetoric,” would be a lot more heartwarming had his boss not spent the better part of the summer keeping his mouth shut good and tight while the left race-baited the hell out of every conservative within a thousand-mile radius. Just in the past 24 hours, we’ve had the dimmest bulb on the New York Times op-ed page blanket-smearing southern Republicans over some supposed secret wish to call Obama “boy” while CNN anchors hold up Bill Maher — Bill Maher — as the new vanguard in incisive racial commentary. Of course the White House refuses to accuse its opponents of racism; why should they take that political risk when every last halfwit in big media is happily willing to do it for them?

That’s the first clip, which I encourage you to watch only after reading Ed’s latest post so that you fully appreciate the irony. The second clip, where Gibbs is asked whether Palin’s “death panels” comment was out of line, is red meat for dessert.

Thank you! You honor me. Believing as you do, I’m all for the best our people have done since my discharge.

I’m on their side, more than I ever was. If they get benefits I’ll nave have, I’ll gladly pay the taxes for them. MY dad and his generation fought to keep me free, and those in Service now keep it that way. They’re the creme de la creme of America, and it’s great being a fellow Citizen with them.

And to you. Again, thank you so much!

I pushed the play button, but something must be wrong. The Gibbering idiot’s mouth started moving and I dozed off. Could somebody provide a break down of his salient points?
Oh wait…salient…NEVERMIND.

It is not the “color” black/white of Obama’s skin that is the problem.

It is the “color” of his black heart and his red policies.

nondhimmie on September 13, 2009 at 6:54 PM

Since we’re stuck with political parties, which Washington opposed, I’m a big advocate of a third party. Getting that done, however, is terribly hard.

It is hard. The challenge is to get enough people to give the donkeys and elephants a TEA PARTY and throw the bums out.

Maureen Dowd makes up a statement out of whole cloth, attributes unspoken words to Rep. Joe Wilson, and this becomes the topic in a Sunday morning talking heads show? Isn’t that like the “news” source creating the “news”?

Maureen Dowd has shamed herself with misleading “journalism” once too often with her elliptical phrasings that delete words to fit her narrative. Now she is putting in words to achieve the same end? The silly hack has no credibility nor ethics.

How can something you refuse to admit happened be considered racist?

notanobot on September 13, 2009 at 7:13 PM

See, I knew this was going to happen. And Rush called this a year ago. If you oppose Barry’s ultra-librul policies, then you are automatically a racist. Did you guys read the latest Bill Smazhcer article, to which he referred to the teabaggers as “cracker nation.” Real racism, in my opinion, is the fact that a black woman has to sleep with an ugly troll like maher–but that’s besides the point.

The idiot Birfers don’t help the situation any, but those are the only people that maureen dunce will choose to exploit in this argument.

And another thing that people always forget is that the right-wing will always be vilified for anything that we do. We’re the ones that are always made fun of since it’s the libruls (like obama) who are trying to make america a better place. Great example of this is that rachel maddog show where she was discussing the guy who got his finger bitten off at the anti-obamacare townhall. Who wound up being the butt of the joke, certainly not the finger-biter, but the idiot right-winger with no pinky!

Yeah, I’ll point fingers at those who DARE spit on American soldiers. I make no apology for it, either.

Liam on September 13, 2009 at 6:45 PM

I remember all too well the human garbage that did that and worse to our returning VN Vets. And, had I ever personally witnessed it, I’d have been pointing something other than a finger at them.

And I grew to become against that war as well, but never against the soldiers. It wasn’t their fault the politicians decided not to win, when easily we could have.

Unfortunately, many of the very type of people who then cheered the degrading of our troops in such ways, are now in control.

I pray for our uniformed guys and gals today, more than ever before.

It would be an incredible fight like the world has never seen. But it can be done. The question is, how many are willing to go how far?

I’m not advocating armed revolt, for we can do the same thing without firearms as we can with them. What is lacking is the will. At some point, people might get tired of being called racist and all other such slanders, Right and Left united, and turn these bums out to the streets by popular vote.

Liam on September 13, 2009 at 7:18 PM

Getting that done, however, is terribly hard.

Liam on September 13, 2009 at 4:56 PM

It requires the implosion of one of the existing parties, in order to take its place. Our system is essentially designed for two parties. And these parties are really just proxies of the original two parties, which are just proxies of the original political divide: federalism (primacy of federal authority, top-down power) versus republicanism (primacy of state/local authority, bottom-up power).

spmat on September 13, 2009 at 7:20 PM

The nonsense, the fear-mongering, that so many Americans are justthisclose to losing their homes should a catastrophic illness hit a family that has no insurance is miniscule compared to the numbers that are quite happy with their current coverage.

Okay, Gibbsy, maybe states, not the federal government, should provide a cafeteria of health insurance choices to their citizens. If a person only wants catastrophic insurance, so be it.

The American taxpayer is justthismuchcloser to losing his home if he has to shell out more money to subsidize tha whole nation’s health insurance.

The smarmy look that Gibbs gives when he makes his points is so condescending and is a tell when he is obfuscating.

Working as a bartender in college, I got a lot of local blacks telling me I shorted their drinks because they’re black. After several rounds of you are/you aren’t i found a novel approach. I took their argument away.
When someone called me racist I simply said, “Yes i am”.
Now that the debate was settled we could get on with whatever issue they had.
I’ve since, in my older years, expanded it to include ANY accusation of discrimination. If someone stokes up an anti-gay, feminist, Muslim hater, ageist, or whatever argument, I simply agree.
They’re usually stunned, and at the least they STFU!
SO when my ignorant neighbor saw my IMPEACH OBAMA window sticker on my big-ass-redneck-truck, I said, “Yep” and moved on.
Itworks.
Just saying.

Maureen, in many ways, is like the Gray Lady for whom she works. A once quite attractive woman, on whose shape all eyes fell as she entered the room, lilting from table to table, from clinking glass to clinking glass, from smile to friendly smile. In a swoop, she owned the place.

Now, as the years have worn wrinkles and gravity has had its way, she strains to find relevance over rejection, falling from la femme du jour to la femme fatale.

From owning the room to now struggling, doing whatever it takes, just to rent it.

Sad… for both of them.

I really don’t blame the Left for being taken aback by the Tea Parties and the other protests. For many, many years, the taxpayers in this country have stood back and let the government take more and more and more, and they never said anything, not really. After all, what was a few more dollars deducted from each pay — you’d hardly even know it was missing. But they really miscalculated with this stupid healthcare economic appropriation business. People finally seem like they understand that this will be something they will FEEL and they have had enough. As someone (George Will, you’re on a roll, baby!) said, ‘to (supposedly) make things better for 10% of the population, you have to screw over the other 90%?!? Now all the little slights and grievances have built up into one huge ball of outrage. The Left must be shocked. They really thought they could do whaever they wanted and no one would complain. If you haven’t already, you really should read this piece by Mark Steyn: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZTI2Y2YyMzExNGI2OWNjNWU2YWM2NTdiYzY2OTIzNGQ= HA linked to it earlier today. Anyway, he sums up what’s really at stake: “As I’ve written before, the appeal of this issue to him and to Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, et al., is that governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture — one in which elections are always fought on the Left’s issues and on the Left’s terms, and in which “conservative” parties no longer talk about small government and individual liberty but find themselves retreating to one last pitiful rationale: that they can run the left-wing state more effectively than the Left can.”

Oddly, that second clip might be the best reporting I have sen from CNN in years! Hard to tell because it might have ended a bit short.

Clearly, Robert Gibbs was cought up in his own rhetoric, and the real problem with civility in this debate is Obama himself. The incivility starts with the name caller in chief!

Did the CNN fellow follow this incongruity up, or did he simply let it slide? Considering this is where the video was cut, I suspect no follow-up question was asked.

And of course, the follow up question was ‘When will Obama practice the civility that he demeans others for not having?’

Frankly, we believe that you are wrong by every measurable indicator and you are merely a nuisance. What is so lacking in your life that you choose to spend your time this way? Why don’t you mosey on over to moveon.org or something?

cynccook on September 13, 2009 at 11:20 PM

I take it that you were trying to make some sort of insult towards my screen name??? You must not have been to Iraq my patriotic brethren. If you have, you would know that this is the call sign for the 306th AEG at Kirkuk. So, say what you will, but a lot of “Real Patriots” fought underneath the name StoneKrab for people like you to have the right to insult me with ‘toilet humor’. Dispute the facts, or go find a box of crayons and attempt to stay within the lines. Good day sir.

StoneKrab on September 13, 2009 at 10:20 PM

You mean the 506th?

http://www.shaw.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123020907

5/30/2006 – KIRKUK AIR BASE, Iraq — Everyone at Kirkuk has heard the voice of STONEKRAB, but who is it? It’s the 506th Air Expeditionary Group Command Post.

You’d be surprised how many of us have been to the sandbox.

And there’s always that 10%.

StoneKrab on September 13, 2009 at 10:03 PM

FIFY.

If you’re what you claim to be politically – as in someone who doesn’t support the left or the right – then you’re able to see the blantant bias and the whitewash (if you’ll pardon the term). It’s part of the media narrative to make out a broad cross-section of Americans of all colors, backgrounds, and ethnicities as the cast of “Birth of a Nation”. The race card is their trump card, used quite often – when they really don’t have anything to stand on.

“Oh yeah, well you’re black/white/yellow/brown!” is really kinda meaningless when the white/yellow/brown or often black person is arguing on principles and really doesn’t care. At that point, you’ve shown your stripes as someone who wishes to yell – as you have.

You came in, yelled, feigned offense, tossed out the vet card (if you have one – since you couldn’t be bothered to remember your unit), and you finish with “good day, sir” feigning civility as you storm off before anyone can rebut your foolishness.

You obviously don’t respect John Wayne or Clint Eastwood characters, because the cultural heroes they portray would rightfully regard you a cad and a boor.

That 10% of what?

cynccook on September 13, 2009 at 11:23 PM

The saying in the military (every branch, as far as I know) is that you always have that 10% that’s f*cked up. They aren’t on time, they don’t show up for formations on time, they don’t get their gear ready, the don’t know what’s going on, the don’t know the op order, they don’t know their general orders, they’re insubordinate, willfully stupid, disruptive, obnoxious, and generally maladjusted. When you think of “that guy” in the most negative connotation – the 10% is “that guy”.

Sometimes it’s just somebody being stupid, sometimes it’s a combination of factors that make him “that guy”, and sometimes it’s just somebody who’s an asshole or a rock.

CPL 310 on September 13, 2009 at 11:31 PM

That 10% of what?

cynccook on September 13, 2009 at 11:23 PM

In the military there’s a saying that there’s always that 10%. They’re the f*ck-ups, the guys who don’t learn, the guys who are willfully stupid, the guys who do the wrong thing, the lazy, the troublemakers, those who are disruptive, obnoxious, or otherwise problem creating machines.

It’s also used as a term for what to expect whenever you’re getting gear/vehicles/uniforms ready – that there will always be 10% to mess it up. Usually it’s The 10% – the “that guy” of the unit.

Just like in your workplace in the civilian world, you’ve got “that guy”, depending how big the workplace is, you could have a small cluster of “that guys”. That’s the 10%.

In the military, where both the good and bad is magnified by stress and necessity, the 10% is that much more apparent.

CPL 310 on September 13, 2009 at 11:35 PM

Ahhh, the idiotic 10% that risks everyone else’s safety with their stupidity, laziness and incompetence. Yeah, I see what you mean. I just think it’s weird that people like this lurk around in forums where they know or should know that no one is buying into their BS.

cynccook on September 13, 2009 at 11:49 PM

Okay. But I’m not white. In fact, I would’ve had my own bathroom and drinking fountain in the good ole’ days. Now, I have an aversion to having an old liberal white woman from san francisco writing legislation that socializes america, as speaker of the house. I was also opposed to Bill clinton’s policies when he was president. Does that mean that I hate white people or something? What about the white people who voted for hillary in the primaries instead of barry? How does all this make sense in your head? I’m looking forward to the racial analysis.

nelsonknows on September 14, 2009 at 1:13 AM

At which others? The Boomers who spit on returning VN vets, when the MSM claims Boomers are all like them? Or is it the Boomers who all think the rest of their generation is like them–spitting on returning soldiers who have fought and died so they who sat home, with daddy paying their tuition, could spit on those troops?

Amazing–you try claiming I receive an entitlement when I call it gift, then mock me for calling it a gift and feeling grateful, then change the accusation that I fingerpoint. Which is it?

Yeah, I’ll point fingers at those who DARE spit on American soldiers. I make no apology for it, either.

Define your case–tell me at whom I point fingers. I’ll tell you why, too. Then, quid pro quo, you tell me why you’re so offended you mock me when I’m more Conservative than you are. Or is that the problem?

Liam on September 13, 2009 at 6:45 PM

I never spit upon a veteran or service person, and I count any taxes I pay to support you guys well paid. You are the one who laid into “boomers” and called us selfish, and then proceeded to say something even more selfish — which I caught and called you on.

You are like those liberals who think in terms of groups, not individuals.

I don’t remember getting into a “conservative contest” with you — and if I have, you are welcome to win it. Take the moonwalker and go backstage and do whatever you do.

As for you receiving an entitlement — well, you do. It may gall you, but you do. Ask any anti-war person who did spit upon you and you’ll find that they are also paying taxes to support you. You can attempt to rationalize it as a gift, but gifts can be entitlements too. Consider it the ultimate revenge, because none of them have an entitlement — they won no awards for their behavior.

I’m proud of my generation. We were the ones who defeated the Soviet Union, and are the ones who have paid the retirements for the Greatest Generation.

It’s funny, suddenly I have this picture in my mind of jellytoast running around with a camera playing ’spot the minority’, bwahahahahahahaha! “I need proof, stay still minorities, and say cheese!” bwahahahahahahahaha!

StoneKrab on September 13, 2009 at 10:03 PM

No,, you’re confusing me with the mainstream media and what they do at events like this. They’re the ones running around trying so hard to play “Spot the racist!” Stay still racist and say cheese!” I have to admit,, they work very very hard at the game too. They will run past thousands if they have to, to find that one iffy guy with a sign that just might be interpreted somewhere as just maybe somehow a slant against some minority. Oh wait,, what am I thinking,, no,, they don’t work that hard,, they just make it up.

JellyToast on September 14, 2009 at 7:42 AM

To Quote the Pillsbury D’oh-Boy…

“One of the great developments in the President’s speech is he got to address directly the American People, and the perceptions of what is out there (…insert bold-faced lies here…)”

Notice that Gibbs admits that the purpose of this Address to a Joint Session of Congress was to address directly the American People. The message was not for Congress at all. They were merely window dressing.

I wonder how Nancy Pelosi feels about that? Does she have any pride at all, that she allows herself and her office to be used so shamelessly as a cheap political prop?

The way to address the American People directly is to set up a camera in the Oval Office and have a proper Presidential Address. Leave Congress out of it. They are not a Peanut Gallery to sit by and applaud while you bloviate on about your latest political infatuation.

Haiku Guy on September 14, 2009 at 8:31 AM

Gibbs is nothing but a shill for the President. Because he does not do it well, his time should be limited to minimize the public’s exposure to double speak.

MSGTAS on September 14, 2009 at 10:06 AM

This is actually good news, once the left starts crying racism you know they are desprate. Ignoring it didn’t work, lying about it didn’t work so they will try this.
What will be different for them this time is that calling people racist won’t work either.
Obama is the president of the most powerful country in the world and the commander of the most powerful army in the world.
A 65 year old guy holding up a sign is not exactly is a power postion over him.

kangjie on September 14, 2009 at 11:34 AM

On a side note, here … can anyone stay awake, much less pay attention, to Gibbs when he is spewing spin-drivel? Most of what he says is packing peanuts and not worth the energy to stay attuned… I had to turn him off!

On point – the left obviously feels we are incapable of reading, analyzing, extrapolating, and therefore fully understanding the implications of their massive healthcare agenda. I was pleased to see the million folks out in DC (my estimate – and I was there – Yay!) who obviously had done at least some homework, who were nice, polite, and most of whom carried reasonable, intelligent signs. And frankly? I thought the Kennedy sign referenced was funny. They’re the one’s who dragged the man out of the grave to shill for a bad healthcare program! And none of the signs were near as offensive as some of what the left put out during the Bush administration.

I wonder how Webster’s would define hypocrisy?
