Video: Tea partiers chant “Glenn Beck” during CNN live shot

Revenge for the now legendary Susan Roesgen incident via TV Newser. Watch to the end or else you’ll miss the crowd reaction when she asks about Joe Wilson.
Update: To the great surprise of exactly no one, Wilson has now outraised opponent Rob Miller since Wednesday night’s ourburst.

There is no evidence that CNN, in their coverage of this protest, painted the supports as fanatics.
Please show me otherwise. CNN had no control over how the supporters reacted when the reporter brought up Wilson or when the camera started rolling.

You always rally your base first. Its what you need motivated to win.
Then you need to democralize the oppositions base. You want them to stay home on election day.
The independants will swing to the party that does the first two steps the best. It has always worked that way.

Wilson show go to the floor of the House and say:
“I’m sorry I shouted out the truth during a nakedly partisan speech which was a compact of lies, half-truths, calculated invective, and intentional distortions. I know how this can disrupt the orderly flow of disinformation and derail the Delusion Express that the majority of the Congress and this Administration are now suffering under. Next time I’ll wait until the farce has concluded before I comment on the outrageous level of prevarication that we had to endure from this math- and truth-challenged Chief Executive. Thank you.”

I just got back from a long day away from the ‘net (but watched the wall-to-wall Beck coverage, so If I’m repeating something, I apologize, but didn’t see it in this thread.):
We are direct witnesses to history. Serially. If, if this thing ends up turning around, it is absolutely going to go down as the movement that saved the United States of America. If it doesn’t (and I weep when I think it could be so), I believe future civilizations will mark it as the moment in history when the citizenry of the USA tried to take their country back, but were defeated by a corrupt and immoral gob’ment. (The phrase Nero fiddled while Rome burned has been running through my mind for some time…Thank God we are not “fiddlin”!)
God bless those Patriots (capitalized on purpose) for attending the rallies, be they in D.C. or elsewhere. Wish I could have attended, and said prayers for their safety.
Anyway…because it is historic, regardless of which way it turns out, it is but another example of the complete corruption, in fact criminality of the MSM for not covering it. At least CNN gave it lip service, but I promise you they think this coverage shored up their point, not the other way around. And that there’s funny, I don’t care who you are!

Hate to be a spoil sport, I really, really try to be positive, but you do know that Soros etal are going to make it official “bid-ness” to defeat Wilson.
Whatever amount of money Joe raises, his opponent can sit back and do nothing and get much more $. So, it has to be about ideas, and I think it will be. The right ideas are the only thing that can stop this. On that, Beck is so very right.
Speaking of Beck, he talked about finding re-formers to take back the country and quarantine D.C. to root out the corruption. Funny, I’ve often thought that ALL of US: the millions of people who are being very, very vocal are playing the role of “re-framers”.
I’ll betcha for every Madison, Franklin, Hancock, et al, there were legions of anonymous (now)Patriots whose names have been long forgotten.
The prestige isn’t what it is about. Think about it, maybe this is one of the reasons we have been put on this Earth. Now, if that sounds narcissistic, I don’t mean for it too. My great grandchildren could give a rats rearend what I thought about or cared about or stood for. But if I can help change one person’s mind, or get one signature on something that might get a legislator to vote against usurpation of our freedom, then man, that makes me proud!
I’m happy to have other, braver, more articulate people be the one’s that are remembered. But I’m tickled to death to be a witness to history.
Guess that’s really corny.
Chewy the Lab on September 12, 2009 at 6:21 PM
Why is limiting government and telling people to work harder and creating new jobs via industry and commerce considered a lack of ideas ? Its a very valid idea and concept that seems to be alien to anyone on the left.
I agree the right is allowing it’s message to be written by the other side but to say that those ideas arent really ideas is the height of ignorance.

This fund raising for Wilson is great. But I doubt this will be much of a race in 2010. If things continue to slide into hell – and I don’t think anyone doubt they will – Wilson will win in a landslide without spending a dime. He is the incumbent after all, he won in 2008 by a faily comfortable margin. And if as a Republican you won in 2008, well shit, you’ll win just about any election from now on. Hopefully he will send that $1M over to candidates like Harry Reid’s opponent and other big game hunters.

No … it’s not a problem for two reasons …
1. Rob has a 1.3 Million dollar debt to pay off from the last failed campaign. None of his current contributions are going to contribute to his next campaign – unless he wants an even larger debt at the end of it.
2. That district is scarlett red. Rob could get a Trillion – and it would not matter in that district.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:17 PM
Oh … I forgot to add a third reason.
Joe Wilson is now a hero to the voters in that district.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:18 PM
The D’s went more liberal with ideas and worked in all fifty states. The “Howard Dean Fifty State“.
The GOP is at a crossroads. On one hand the base wants to end ‘socialism’ but on the other much of the base is on social security and Medicare. Look at the crowds showing up. Many of the are in their fifties and older.
As for “screwing the independents”, well, there you go. That’s your ticket back…
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 7:22 PM
The update that Wilson has outraised Miller was incorrect. There is an update in the POLITICO story to this effect.
rjl1999 on September 12, 2009 at 7:27 PM
Ending “socialism” doesn’t have to mean that all elderly people drawing Medicare and Social Security get cut off.
The idea would be to “phase out” those programs once we’ve put in place private sector solutions to retirement income and care.
There is no Republican now, or ever – who has called for an immediate end to SS or Medicare.
If you’re going to argue here – you need to know a little bit about what we stand for.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:28 PM
So 46% blue, in a hot red district is “leftovers”…?
…and Rob Miller isn’t a “Marine Hero” to everyone in that South Carolina District…?
Olde soldier sends…!
Geezer on September 12, 2009 at 7:29 PM
It really doesn’t matter – Miller ran and lost by 10 points in an election where all Democrats had the benefit of BHO’s coat tails.
And now Wilson is a hero – and he’s in a scarlet red district. Let the libbies throw all the $$ they can at Miller – won’t make a difference.
Money doesn’t really make that much difference in Congressional Representative races. Districts aren’t that big – a good guy or gal can knock on enough doors to make up for lack of cash.
But – cash is really not a problem for Wilson – and he’s still getting money coming in. And will continue to.
There’s really nothing to see in that race except a lot of liberals flushing money down the toilet – which is hilarious I’ll admit … but not unusual. In this case – it just happens to be THEIR money and not ours. That’s the unusual part.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:33 PM
Here is where your strategy worked. You managed to create confusion over what is happening and to blur all of the different proposals on the table together.
But to now claim vitory on this is premature. You don’t have any indication of this being representative of America.
It is a nice thought but most of the people protesting were nstaunch Republicans anyway.
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 7:34 PM
Geezer – how many terrorists has miller killed since the 2008 election to make him any more of a hero in 2010?
I would submit none. He did alright with being a vet and riding on Obama’s coat tails – but the pulse of the nation has changed – and Democrats are not going to have the Obama “boost” in 2010 – in fact – quite the opposite.
He lost by ten points mate – and that was in a year when Democrats swept everything.
Nothing to see here.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:35 PM
So exactly why would a reporter make a report in a crowd of hundreds of thousands and be surprised there would be noise.
CNN just doesn’t get it and they never will.
truegrits on September 12, 2009 at 7:37 PM
I disagree – look at the polls – they all show Obama and the Democrats in a tremendous free fall. You should not ignore this fact.
And something else …
As unpopular as Bush was – the left never organized anything close to 500,000 people marching on D.C. – much less a million.
Every where you look is a sign that says dems are in for a train wreck.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:37 PM
How many people marched on DC?
rjl1999 on September 12, 2009 at 7:38 PM
Estimates range from 300K to 2M.
Regardless – it was an overwhelming success.
HondaV65 on September 12, 2009 at 7:42 PM
Hah! You think a majority of the people who are retired or close to retirement will support something like that?
They feel that is something they EARNED.
But, let’s actually get to the policy merit of that proposal. Explain how that would work out.
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 7:42 PM
There wasn’t 500,000 people protesting today! I live about five blocks from the capitol (in Capitol Hill for those familiar). If there were that many people the streets would be swamped for a ten/fifteen block radius.
There was probably 100,000 MAXIMUM protesters today. Impressive, mind you, but not 500,000.
As for the anit-war/anti-Bush protests, the left mustered 300,000 in 2003 without the help of something like Fox News.
As for the polls, Obama isn’t in a freefall. Obama normalized at 50% approval which is where most Presidents hang for a while until they get a success.
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 7:49 PM
I resemble that remark…and second it!
Slightly OT: has anyone heard of any SEIU, ACORN or other astroturfers harrassing those gathered at these protests? I’m encouraged that there–thus far–has been no spin about “violence.”
Any thoughts that they may be re-directing (not calling off mind you)the dogs because this tactic failed miserably???
Would love to hear from any of you that were either at the event, or heard from someone who was there what there was in the way of opposition.
All I’m hearing right now is…crickets.

Geezer on September 12, 2009 at 7:53 PM
There is some truth to this, despite ckoeber’s overall idiocy.
If conservatives and Republicans are truly ready to return to limited government and the Constitution, then welfare, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, Department of Education, etc. all need to go. And I’m not so sure how many people in this movement are willing to go that far.
As I’ve said before, the vast majority of the people in this country, on both the right and the left, are fine with socialism. The disagreement is more over how far that socialism should go. The mainstream conservative crowd wants it stopped, while the left-liberals want a whole lot more of it.
Does this present conservative uprising really care about the Constitution? Do they really care about ending socialism? Or is this primarily about something else, something to do with stopping socialism where it is and cutting down on corruption? I’m confident in the latter, but as far as the former goes I have yet to be convinced.
2Brave2Bscared on September 12, 2009 at 7:54 PM
Honda, I’m fine with such a strategy. I hate those unconstitutional socialist programs, but I know they can’t be demolished overnight, especially when you have so many people dependent on them.
But are people within mainstream conservatism really willing to do this? Are Republican politicians willing to “phase out” Social Security? It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a mainstream Republican politician talk about doing such “radical” reform.

LOL. It’s OK to say someone is right once in a while.I didn’t call anyone names or belittle anyone here.

Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!11!1!1
Thanks ck. I needed a good laugh today. Obama bashed Bush? You don’t say! And I thought he got elected because everyone loved Bush, they just loved Obama a little bit more. You know, because he presented ideas that everyone loved so much. Like all those folks in Washington today…

And, as for the actual sentiment expressed, the answer is no.
Republicans will do what they always do. Rant and rail about the government, get elected, and then spend on the military (as if that isn’t the government) while deregulating for big business and doing nothing for anything else.
The famous example of this, besides Bush, is Ronald Reagan. Talked shit about the government but tripled the national deficit.
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 8:04 PM
OK, so you agree. You could have said that.

Like you said…

Don’t let that big arse bike fall over on you, and burn yer leg…!

I hope you’re wrong, but I fear you’re right. We’ll see.

Again! Stop…stop…can’t…breath…
I love it! 300K people just happen to show up at the same time for the same thing without any advertisement or coordination. Beautiful!
It’s like that Monty Python skit about the four Yorkshiremen:
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Who’d have thought thirty year ago we’d all be sittin’ here [in the Whitehouse (ed.)] drinking Château de Chasselas, eh?
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
In them days we was glad to have the price of a cup o’ tea.
SECOND YORKSHIREMAN:
A cup o’ cold tea.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Without milk or sugar.
THIRD YORKSHIREMAN:
Or tea.
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
In a cracked cup, an’ all.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Oh, we never had a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.
SECOND YORKSHIREMAN:
The best we could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth.

I never said they didn’t coordinate. What I said was that they didn’t have Fox News (meaning a major news organization) announcing day in and day out that they were going to protest on said day.
They organized themselves.

That was a great video, I thought that CNN handled it better than the April fiasco, can CNN learn objectivity not taking sides?
Dr Evil on September 12, 2009 at 8:36 PM
I just noticed that you were afraid to respond to the question I asked you in my prior post-why are you defending CNN?.
Only reason I can think of is that you don’t feel that the CNN journalistic ethics breaches I cited were bad?
Del Dolemonte on September 12, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Dude…major buzzkill. You had to bring in grown-up logic and fact-based truth. Personally I don’t watch any news channels so I didn’t know about today until yesterday. (sorry for the crazily worded sentence) I’m sure I read about it, but it didn’t stick with me. In any case, to folks to believe that ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and yes, even FOX didn’t mention the protests in Jan/Feb 2003 is a bit of a stretch. With 2 Google searches I found announcements on both FOX and CNN (complete with dates, times, rally points, etc). Stopped at that point because it already disproved your assertion that no-one covered the build-up.
Onus on September 12, 2009 at 8:45 PM
I would rail against CNN when they suck. They normally do. But I won’t do what most people are doing here and create stupid outrage over something that doesn’t exist.
CNN didn’t set them up so that they would be seen as fanatics. Supporters, yes. Fanatics? NO.
ckoeber on September 12, 2009 at 8:51 PM
I agree Doc. When I checked CNN earlier their first instinct was that the protest was ‘filled with anger’ – complete with a leading image of one of the signs with a swastika on it, which they later toned down when the crowds started getting big. If they could overcome that initial instinct they could become an honest news organization again.
Kinda like that Seinfeld episode where George decides that every instinct he has is wrong so he decides to do the opposite. All of a sudden everything starts going his way.

Please reread my sentence:
Announcing something is going to happen is different than PROMOTING something day in and day out.
