I think Steyn’s too pessimistic– the welfare state as is already requires about $600 billion a year in bond sales, and most of it foriegn. That’s simply unsustainable. It can’t last another 30 years. Expand the benefits guarantees to cover healthcare and Total Coverage for Wall Street, and it would fail a lot sooner.

Now is the time to keep hammering Congress with phone calls, emails, faxes. They saw what happened today, and I can assure you they are very afraid. Having worked with and campaigned for politicians since 2001, I know how much they fear public backlash. They want to keep their cushy jobs, benefits, power and prestige…that’s all that matters to them.
We have gained momentum. Don’t stop now. Let Washington know that their jobs are in our hands.
