Quotes of the day

“‘You know, I intend to be president for a while and once this bill passes, I own it. And if people look and say, ‘You know what? This hasn’t reduced my costs. My premiums are still going up 25 percent, insurance companies are still jerking me around,” Obama explained.
‘I’m the one who’s going to be held responsible. So I have every incentive to get this right,’ he added.”

“If he’s having difficulty selling it, that’s because it’s not about ‘health.’ As I’ve written before, the appeal of this issue to him and to Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, et al., is that governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture — one in which elections are always fought on the Left’s issues and on the Left’s terms, and in which ‘conservative’ parties no longer talk about small government and individual liberty but find themselves retreating to one last pitiful rationale: that they can run the left-wing state more effectively than the Left can…
My sense from Wednesday’s speech is that the president’s gonna shove this through in some form or other. It may cause a little temporary pain in Blue Dog districts in 2010, but the long-term gains will be transformative and irreversible.”
***
“Obama ends his 40 min health care speech declaring ‘they can’t stop us – let’s go get this done.’”

America popped the Medicare/Medicaid programs into their mouths, then another program, then another…like peanuts you can’t eat just one.
And when we belly up to the D.C. bar we expect that bowl of peanuts to be sitting there.

Seems Obama wishes to do to Healthcare Nationalization what LBJ did to the Vietnam War
Make the citizen spill blood for the personal satisfactions of the leader

This ass could not even take responsibility for the 17 or 18 parking tickets he racked up while in law school. He came back to pay them the week before he announced for the presidency. I really can’t take him for his word that he will “own it.”

Since all of the various Democratic healthcare plans have a start date of January 2013, Barry’s argument makes no sense. If whatever crappy plan he signs turns out to be a disaster (as seems inevitable), there won’t be any way for voters to retaliate against him. Which, of course, is precisely why the plan won’t go into effect until after the next presidential election — despite the urgency of passing something now because people are dying.

Of course. That’s going to be his supposedly guaranteed election strategy: vote for me or my unworthy opponent will kill healthcare. He’s a bastard, in every sense.

Good Sunday morning HotAirHeads!
Just checking in before work to see if the official count of the march yesterday has been pegged at 15 or 17. ;)
If Barry has won then I say well done, sir, because you just increased the rate in which we can throw off Uncle Sugar and rediscover the 10th Amendment.
For all you libs out there, trolls aside, if you keep looking over your shoulder so much you are going to end up straining something.

You know, butt-ball ‘bama doesn’t seem to know the difference between ruling and representing the people. I guess that’s what you learn as a kid living in the military junta of Indonesia and you pick up from your Marxist father.
Here’s a hint Obama, America does not have rulers.
tarpon on September 13, 2009 at 8:57 AM
Once again, the “constitutional scholar” doesn’t realize that if the plan doesn’t go into effect until his second, and constitutionally mandated last, term, there’s no way he can be held responsible. Perhaps some unnamed Democrat, but not him. Unless he has Chavez-like plans for 2012, this should be an OOTD.

Does anyone know how the event on Saturday in Minneapolis was paid for and what it cost? It must cost plenty to use a big place like that arena.

Damn, I wish Steyn didn’t believe that, because he’s usually right.
Speaking of Steyn, might I recommend a great read with your morning coffee “No Wonder the Kennedys Hated Him”, about Dominick Dunne. Noteworthy for a laugh out loud line (hint: starts with “And evidently…), as well as a gorgeous picture of Marilyn Monroe.

ObamaScare is still not in writing because he doesn’t want it in writing until his lackeys pass legislation to “create” a bill.
Everybody in Congress is talking about his “bill”, but no one has one from him in writing that can be previewed and debated descriptively. Any time a detail is debated on it’s face, “they” say it can be changed to accommodate; Therefore, there’s NO PLAN YET.
After the years of MISHANDLING MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY, T.A.R.P., CASH FOR CLUNKERS, and other bailouts still pending, WHY WOULD ANYONE TRUST THEM TO HANDLE ANYTHING WITH ANY RESEMBLANCE OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY?
OBAMA, HIMSELF, HAS SHOWN NO FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY!
With Congress forging ahead without even listening to the people’s arguments, why would anyone trust these LIARS?
They’re spending money like drunken sailors now, and continually say “We can spend more and make things better”; Who’s believing this bull crap?
I don’t think anyone believes it, but Obama’s soldiers will march into the volcano to support him.
We the People have to get more active and vocal to demonstrate our condemnation of their total irresponsible governing.
Cybergeezer on September 13, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Steyn is right. If they Rahm this through it will be permanent, other than if we launch an armed rebellion before they disarm us.

Unfortunately, I think I agree with Steyn; they’re going to make this happen despite the public’s wishes. And that will be that, and we’ll have it (and more leftist government crap) forever.

Somebody tell President Obama that he is supposed to be the leader of the ENTIRE Nation. Not just his looney group of comrades.
How can he so brazenly disregard millions of people?

A worthy article. The following stand out for me (emphasis added):
And the beginning of the end of Obama or our Republic. I know which I’ll choose.
Maquis on September 13, 2009 at 10:34 AM
Roger that. I’ve been doing a lot of that myself of late. Hoping, that is.
Maquis on September 13, 2009 at 10:36 AM
They know that if they ram this through it will cost them in the short term. The true believers (in socialism) like Obama are willing to take that short term hit to fundamentally change the republic. Once it is passed and signed into law, it is irreversible. The argument between the left and right then shifts from whether or not it is the role of government to who can run it better.
conservnut on September 13, 2009 at 10:50 AM
Well, if Obama wants to take our blood, we can return the favor.
The recognition of the Liberty lost to this monstrosity justifies no calm, no acceptance, no acquiescence.

Sad to say, but for me Steyn only reinforced my gut feeling as to how this battle will play out.

Just the sea of racists (and their supporters) that marched on Obeyma’s crib yesterday. The rest are hopeless. If they haven’t figured out what’s what by now they never will.
Gang-of-One on September 13, 2009 at 11:41 AM
I remember hearing how welfare could never be reformed because there was a permanent consituiency backed by Democratics in Congress and a sympathetic media (the old “Iron Triangle”). 1994-1996 changed that. Only now did the current Administration stealthily roll some of that back.
There is plenty of opposition to this up-front, if something get rammed through, it can be rolled right back up in 2012-2014 if not sooner.

I’m no military lawyer or scholar, but I don’t believe changing in to your “civies” makes you a civilian, or allows you to ignore lawful military orders. Or maybe when I was in the Navy years ago the Department just forgot to tell me so…
Gang-of-One on September 13, 2009 at 12:34 PM
Joe, with all due respect, you’re the Man! What’s your plan? Lay it out. How do we defeat this Marxist?
Perhaps the fact that all you’re hearing is constant whining and hand wringing is because you’re being somewhat selective in what you’re hearing.
How ’bout the people who organized yesterday’s historic march of the Silent Majority? Looks like a pretty good bit of strategy to me. I’m not Republican, but it seems that people all over the country are pitching in. So because some have fear and doubt about the outcome they’re whiners and hand wringers? Lighten up, bro, I ain’t heard anyone around here talking about giving up the fight. Most folks think the fight is just beginning.
So Steyn see’s it turning out bad, well, so do I. However, I spend way more time at the range and exercising than I do hand wringing.
Besides, doesn’t all good strategic planning consider both best case/worst case scenarios? I have nothing but respect for those who see only best case scenarios. I hope you’re right. In the mean time I’ll continue preparing for the worst case scenario.

“A while” is pretty open-ended.
I’m definitely feeling “jerked around” but not by insurance companies.

I’m all for civil dialogue, but it’s statements like this “They can’t stop us…” that make me want to say “F**k you, Obama! This isn’t a dictatorship YET!”
I’m scared. I think anyone who believes that our momentum from an excellently-fought battle this Summer will be enough to stop this Healthcare bill is foolish. We need to be relentless and understand that no matter how they try to “frame the debate,” the libs are getting ready to fight dirty. Really dirty. I want to have kids some day, but I don’t know if I could bring a child into the world knowing that he/she would grow up with less freedom than I did.
Keep fighting!
