Breaking: Bomb threat against Tea Party organizers

posted at 1:18 pm on September 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Washington DC Tea Party appears to be a big success, but it’s not for lack of trying among the movement’s more lunatic opponents.  Yesterday, the DC Metro police evacuated the offices of Freedomworks after several threats, including a bomb-threat phone call that police considered credible enough to investigate:

Tens of thousands of anti-big government activists are expected in Washington on Saturday as part of a “March on Washington” being organized by FreedomWorks, a conservative group headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas.

A FreedomWorks staffer told ABC News that the organization’s offices at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue were evacuated on Friday afternoon by DC Metro Police because of a bomb scare.

DC Metro police has confirmed to ABC News’ Jason Ryan that the DC Metro police had, indeed, evacuated the organization’s offices after being told by the organization that it had received a bomb threat.

The threat came when a man called the FreedomWorks main line and told the organization’s female receptionist: “I put a bomb in your building, bitch.”

The FreedomWorks staffer who spoke with ABC News said that the organization has received multiple threats but that for some reason, the DC Metro police thought that this one was credible enough to evacuate the building.

We owe a big thanks to the Metro police for keeping things secure, but they shouldn’t have had to waste their time in the first place.  It’s doubly ironic that these terroristic threats — and that’s what they are — took place on the eighth anniversary of 9/11, an irony apparently lost on the nutcases trying to disrupt a peaceful demonstration.  It’s simply despicable.

Abortion doesn’t bother me, if that’s what you’re saying. I think it’s about medical privacy.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 2:14 PM

Deeds done in the dark, then, so you’re saying, are not wrong, amoral, immoral or evil?

Abortion is murder. It’s “about” an act of murder. With intention and forethought and utter disregard for the life of another human being, which is about as dark and wrong as murder ever gets.

Lourdes on September 12, 2009 at 2:19 PM

Maybe Frum and Parker were the ones making the bomb threats…

“Damn, now if only we could get actual conservatives to read our ‘conservative’ pieces, we could get some quality air time. I got it! Let’s scare them back from their fanaticism.”

Upstater85 on September 12, 2009 at 2:20 PM

Whatever. It’s just not my interest. I personally would vote for a pro-abortion fiscal conservative in a heart-beat. Obviously, that’s a game-changer for you.

Not for me. That’s all.

Abortion will be the next big healthcare “issue.” Today, it’s still illegal immigrants. :)

I don’t know of any pro-abortion fiscal conservatives that want the government to pay for abortions at home and abroad.

*yawn*

I do completely relate to the Chrysler guy who talked about the GM bailout, the outrageous decision that will ruin the bond market in the future. No securitized loans? That was radical, folks.

And I like the format so far. Quick speeches.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 2:23 PM

Uh oh, Beck is showing a BIG (est. 20,000) townhall from Ft. Worth, Texas, and they are talking to a black pastor who is also against Ogabe’s scheme.

Is the pastor a racist too or…something else? Afrolib, where are you when I need an answer for questions like this?

It is a fact

AnnIn wants government health care and she believes abortion to be part of it.

Are you this dense?

CWforFreedom on September 12, 2009 at 2:08 PM

No, I’m not that dense. Would you rather she fight blindly for that cause or look at alternatives using a bit of logic some day in the future?

Liberals disgust me to no end, but I’m thinking that sitting here just continually insulting them isn’t getting us anywhere. It’s funny now and then, sure, but the argument isn’t getting won.

iurockhead on September 12, 2009 at 1:56 PM

Actually, I’m fairly certain it’s live today. When I watched he said he was mad he had to be in New York because he’d rather be with the protesters. He even had someone interviewing the protesters. He is covering it, just not as much as C-Span.

Esthier is it not a fact in today’s world that health care includes abortion?

CWforFreedom on September 12, 2009 at 2:01 PM

That’s not the fact in question. You were talking about Ann wanting one, and that’s what’s not funny, especially if it were true, which, unless Ann’s lying about her age, it can’t possibly be.

The biggest argument against abortion is that the fetus is a life worth protecting. That’s never funny.

I’m actually listening to the speeches here. I agree with some points, not with others, but the tent is really big today in DC.

I like that. Blogs, not so big of a tent. I’m a liberal loony here, a rethug on other sites.

I don’t pay too much attention, frankly.

The real story is what’s going on in DC. This is populism. For real. Not fake stories about pretend doners that Obama claimed was behind his campaign, while truly hiding all the big money.

And Cap-And-Tax is getting attention, thankfully. That’s a disaster bill. But I feel confident after listening here today that is dead.

The logical end of attitudes like AnnIn’s

http://creation.com/bioethicists-and-obama-agree-infanticide-should-be-legal

Peter Singer asserts: ‘killing a disabled infant is not morally equivalent to killing a person. Very often it is not wrong at all.’5 Indeed, this sort of thought has been the basis of wrongful birth lawsuits by parents who claim that their disabled children should not have been born.

You dense? I’ve raised my kid. He’s a fine young man today. I loved being a Mom. Greatest/hardest job ever. But he’s grown now. I am relieved to share that I have no grandkids out of wedlock or unplanned. I did my job, apparently. And I did it taking a very “liberal” approach. Talk about it. Made sure he knew the consequences.

Here’s what I did right, actually. I pointed out an unwanted pregnancy could end up with a child, and the male nearly always loses contact, which causes lifelong pain.

He heard me. Believed me. And took care.

I think I did a great job on that issue. You can disagree. But I’m pleased.

Now, I’d like to see the opposite energy. I’d love to see him ready for a family so I could have a grandkid.

Alas, that’s the risk one takes with having only 1 kid. They don’t always do things in your timeframe. *haha

The number of citizens in this country who don’t have insurance because they legitimately had to choose between that and the rent/food/clothing/ and/or other essentials, is quite low. Far fewer than 1% of the population.

Thanks for your consideration, turd, bravo.

I’ll be sure to disregard what you have to say from this point forward. See how that works? You furthered your cause in supreme fashion!

So if everyone isn’t in complete right wing lockstep with you, I take it you don’t want their vote for your candidate, eh? That’s a wonderful way to win elections! Kudos on your brilliance!

Anyway, I’m not socially liberal. VERY far from it. I happen to believe that with individual freedom comes personal responsibility. Very few are able to parse that beyond their cemented ideologies. Regarding abortion versus individual freedom and personal responsibility, the argument may never be solved. There is simply far left and far right, the larger number in the middle are the ones that will ultimately have to abide by the ideology of the far left or far right, yet oddly because they are the largest number they will be the deciding factor in the argument.

So of course, the answer would be to insult the ones in the middle, who have decided the argument has not been settled. That will surely bring them in line with your thinking. Works every time!

Sigh, I’m tired of arguing with people that only hear themselves talk anyway. Later, got better things to do.

Back when we had sodomy laws, your comment made more sense, but with marriage, I just don’t see how it’s government intrusion to keep people out of a government program.

She doesn’t consider them people.

I’m not sure that’s entirely a fair statement. I think the relationship between a woman and her unborn child is uniquely symbiotic. It is truly a state of symbiosis. I think that means, the adult’s health is entertwined. And the adult is the one who must decide.

I came “of age” way back when, and right away, I knew abortion isn’t birth control. But then, I’m a bit more comfortable about making sure that I stay honest in life. Sexually active? Take precautions. I think that’s responsible behavior.

I sure know a lot of women who aren’t.

I also had a child very young. jeesh* Looking back, I was really just a kid.

But it was a good thing for me, anyway. Boy, it kicked me into gear. I put myself through college, with that kid in mind. I ended all my own foolish dating decisions. Guys who were “fun” and “dangerous” weren’t invited in, anymore.

I view my own motherhood as THE motivation to “straighten up and fly right,” as my Dad used to say.

But I do think this is all personal choices, and nobody needs to be involved. I have a huge spiritual perspective. It may not be Christianity, but it’s really important.

These are spiritual choices in life. We need to not interfere.

We are here to support one another, nothing more.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 2:51 PM

CannedInCA is not equipped with a full complement of human emotions. We all know that the sense of “embarrassment” is completely absent from her emotional repertoire.

She can make a fool of herself repeatedly and have not the slightest invocation of shame or remorse. It is little surprise then that the termination of a human life would give nothing but a subdued catatonic reptilian-like response; the same kind of animalistic response which allows some species to devour their young without provocation.

Such a cognitively damage psyche is without soul and quite capable of the most heinous of “rationalizations”.

Even hard facts don’t seem to get in the way of her seemingly random opinions which change from day to day. And yet she goes on quite happily, almost blissfully oblivious to what she has stated in the recent past, full contradictions and non sequiturs.

OK, really don’t know what to make of your statements now. You do consider the fetus a life and yet still don’t think the government has an interest in protecting it? That’s illogical. The mother gets to decide until a child is 18, yet the mother isn’t allowed to end the lives of her own children.

grrrhh I said I would not comment…but do you now see the ugliness within?

CWforFreedom on September 12, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Back when we had sodomy laws, your comment made more sense, but with marriage, I just don’t see how it’s government intrusion to keep people out of a government program.

You don’t get it because your premise is off. Marriage is not a “government program.” It is an institution founded by God that has been with us for all of human history. The government’s only responsibility is to protect it, not necessarily because it’s a sacred religious institution, but because marriage is the foundation of any prosperous and successful nation.

But now the pro same-sex “marriage” crowd, here in the 21st century, wants to change the whole thing. They want to redefine marriage to mean something it’s never meant — all while promoting the idea that they’re the “reasonable ones.” But really it’s them who are introducing something unheard of for almost all of human history. They’re being unreasonable.

Talk to AnnIN outside this forum. She had at least one abortion.

That is the last I will say on the subject today

CWforFreedom on September 12, 2009 at 2:56 PM

I’ll take you at your word. My only point is that I don’t find the subject funny. You can ignore that if you want.

Esthier on September 12, 2009 at 3:01 PM

Would someone count up all these I’s?

I’m…I…I…Me…I…I’m…Me…I…I…I’m…I…I…I’m

Sounds like precedent Me Me Obama.

Geochelone on September 12, 2009 at 3:02 PM

Yet hundreds of thousands of people attend the event anyway despite the common sense knowledge that some looney may perpetrate some act of violence at the protests.

Awesome!

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 2:51 PM

Says who? You? Who are you to tell me what is right and wrong and why we are here? To what moral standard do you appeal when you say such things? And more importantly, why should I listen to it?

You’re a hypocritical joke, Ann. You appeal to morality and purpose that you cannot objectively and universally account for, and then on top of that you play the holier-than-thou game of accusing everyone else of being moral “control freaks.”

Give it a rest.

Excellent argument! You’ve completely convinced me. You’re intellectual brilliance and razor sharp with have defeated my silly arguments for individual freedom and personal responsibility. I shall report to the concentration camp of your choosing first thing Monday.

I’m being asked about my personal life. Of course, I respond with “I.”

What’s interesting to me, anyway, is how many connection points I’m hearing with the speakers.

I don’t care if you don’t want me in your niche of the bigger tent. That’s your issue, and trust me, I won’t intrude.

I’m going to vote how I’m going to vote.

I think the relationship between a woman and her unborn child

So it IS a child and not a lump of unthinking, unknowing tissue, an actual human being, yet the mother can choose to destroy this life until the first breath is taken.

Whatever, this movement is bigger than the Christian right.

And if you think I’m “evil,” then I’m honestly OK with that.

Your opinion of me isn’t my business. My business is my opinion of others.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 3:13 PM

Music break here. What is this Freedom Works group? They are doing a good job.

I never was a Reagan fan. I didn’t think he was a great commuicator..
I was one amazed that he struck people that way.
I wasn’t surprised by his disease.
And I’m not surprsed that his ideas need to be abandonded.

AnninCA on July 18, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Was this one about your personal life too? All of your posts are about you.

Just look at your own response

Typical response from godless windbags like yourself whenever their inherently incoherent worldview is challenged.

If your opinion is for yourself, then keep it to yourself. We don’t want to hear, and more importantly we don’t want you trying to legislate it.

You’re entitled to your opinion, of course.

Me? I reserve the word evil for serial murderers who torture people, genocide, and those who think that stoning women to death for having sex in some parts of our world.

But you’re entitled to make up YOUR definition of evil.

Read your own post. What a joke with your little sigh comment.

Bet you think you are smart. You just come off like the jackarse you are. Oh and you lied. You said you were leaving. What a surprise a RINO Lover and a Liar ….seems that goes hand in hand.

Seems killing your own children should rank higher on the evil scale. Something pathological about it.

CWforFreedom on September 12, 2009 at 3:21 PM

Once again, AnninCA preforms a flawless threadjacking.

Please stop feeding the trolls. I know its fun once and a while, but you know if you do feed them once, they will keep coming back like a vermin infestation.

THAT is the truest thing I’ve ever read you post. Pure narcissism and manipulation.

No, opposite. You seem to think that your words affect others.

No, they don’t. People join together in unity. This day is a great message to DC. It explains all the polls. People are SICK of DC idiots. Sick of it. I don’t care if you disagree with me on abortion, I bet we agree on more issues right now than disagree.

People who slice and dice constantly over disagreements are the ones I don’t relate to at all. I figure out where I agree and go there.

I have no interest in taking on the judgments of those here who disagree with me. That’s their stuff. They want to judge? Go ahead. It really doesn’t bother me. It’s not like we’re having dinner tonight.

And I’d never let words on a computer screen from some unknown person affect me personally. That’s silly.

For all I know, you’re headed out to get your pill from your psyche doctor at 3 o’clock and have to exit because your time is up on the community computer. (I actually ran into that situation years ago on-line.)

So if you find my detachment “narcissistic,” fine. But it’s just pragmatic about on-line junk.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 3:25 PM

You’re entitled to your opinion, of course.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 3:18 PM

It’s not my opinion. See, unlike you, I have higher authority than self that I appeal to for my morality.

Me? I reserve the word evil for serial murderers who torture people, genocide, and those who think that stoning women to death for having sex in some parts of our world.

Me me me, I I I. Nobody cares what you think. Your opinion means nothing. Your made-up morality has no bearing on anyone, per your own stupid worldview.

But you’re entitled to make up YOUR definition of evil.

No, I am not, and neither are you. Morality is not subjective.

2Brave2Bscared on September 12, 2009 at 3:25 PM
