Breaking: Bomb threat against Tea Party organizers

posted at 1:18 pm on September 12, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

The Washington DC Tea Party appears to be a big success, but it’s not for lack of trying among the movement’s more lunatic opponents.  Yesterday, the DC Metro police evacuated the offices of Freedomworks after several threats, including a bomb-threat phone call that police considered credible enough to investigate:

Tens of thousands of anti-big government activists are expected in Washington on Saturday as part of a “March on Washington” being organized by FreedomWorks, a conservative group headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas.

A FreedomWorks staffer told ABC News that the organization’s offices at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue were evacuated on Friday afternoon by DC Metro Police because of a bomb scare.

DC Metro police has confirmed to ABC News’ Jason Ryan that the DC Metro police had, indeed, evacuated the organization’s offices after being told by the organization that it had received a bomb threat.

The threat came when a man called the FreedomWorks main line and told the organization’s female receptionist: “I put a bomb in your building, bitch.”

The FreedomWorks staffer who spoke with ABC News said that the organization has received multiple threats but that for some reason, the DC Metro police thought that this one was credible enough to evacuate the building.

We owe a big thanks to the Metro police for keeping things secure, but they shouldn’t have had to waste their time in the first place.  It’s doubly ironic that these terroristic threats — and that’s what they are — took place on the eighth anniversary of 9/11, an irony apparently lost on the nutcases trying to disrupt a peaceful demonstration.  It’s simply despicable.

At this point, the only thing to do is if it makes a false statement of fact, quote only the falsehood, nothing else, and no identity, then refute the falsehood. Otherwise, it’s simply trolling and we’re feeding it.

The only way we could get AP to attend the DC rallies is if MegMac was the float in one of the Anti-Tax parades…

…We all know that isn’t possible as the police report clearly states the following:

“Whinny spoiled girl downing twinkies made a bomb threat via twitter.”

This is a weird day. In an age of instantaneous communications we are desperate for more info. What the hell is going on in DC? Can’t seem to get a handle on the numbers. A power of 10 approximation seems beyond the scope of present day technology.

Even the great Geo was duped by the troll today. Shame on you though Mr. Lox; you should know better. You were the one who trained me my master; and now I must school you. I bet you have guilt now. :)

Go to CSPAN. I’ve heard all the speakers.

ROTFLMAO. I have visions of the Macy’s Day parade where it take 24 hours to inflate one of those giant balloons with an industrial air compressor.

AnninCA shuts down when you say abortion = murder. The left won the culture war and sees that argument as hyperbole. “Children are punishment,” according to POTUS. Sadly, less than half the country disagreed.

Also, AnninCA is a true believer. There is no compromise on UHC for her, and if it covers abortion, so much the better. This is her Waterloo moment, and Obama is her President, while she would have preferred Hillary.

Well what did you expect from Obama loons.

You forgget that Bush, CIA, Air Force, My eighth grade civics teacher and Reagan’s ghost caused 9/11. Both caused by home grown terrorists.

It’s simply despicable.

There’s that word again. Truly Ed, it is the most accurate description of many on the left these days.

csdeven on September 12, 2009 at 3:59 PM

Right out of the Alinsky/Khalid Sheikh Mohammed playbook.

alliebobbitt on September 12, 2009 at 3:40 PM

No, not really. Let me explain.

I was/am a Hillary supporter.

However, everything in politics is fluid. And it includes real life.

Hillary would have been as unpopular as Obama. She IS liberal.

The same debates with the far left would have emerged.

This was HIS time for election. It’s a significant historical moment in this country. Even his “spin” on various issues isn’t a lot different from Bush’s spin on stuff.

It’s just the bully pulpit stuff.

As for the abortion issue?

I’m not tied to that. I do think it’s an intrusion on personal privacy issues.

I don’t think that you can argue both ways. I believe in personal medial privacy.

But it’s no dealbreaker for me.

It was refreshing to watch the march on DC today. In contrast to all the lefty protests I could actually tell the girls from the boys

Are you talking about the balloon big enough to attempt to lift MEGAMac off the ground?

VibrioCocci on September 12, 2009 at 6:16 PM

That’s kinda cool. My husband and I walked into the building – Capital Grille on the first floor – for dinner at 4:30 yesterday. We had no idea. 601 Penn Ave NW.

shibumiglass on September 12, 2009 at 6:50 PM

The FreedomWorks staffer who spoke with ABC News said that the organization has received multiple threats but that for some reason, the DC Metro police thought that this one was credible enough to evacuate the building.

So the Metro police don’t show up if the Freedom Works folks don’t feel the threeat is credible? Who makes that decision? Whenever there is a bomb threat, in ANY DC building, the DC Metro police are REQUIRED to show up and investigate or make some judgment call as to danger to occupants. Failure of them to do so prior to this date either means they really don’t get many bomb threats there (which the FW staffer says is not true), or DC Metro ignores those reports of bomb threats because the folks who reported them are not worthy of protection. Possibly because they are Republicans. Because we all know Dhimmicrats and lefties aren’t man enough to actually commit violence, now are they? Except for the Reichstag, the Bolshevik Revolution, the Cuban Revolution, Nicaragua, the Weather Underground, the Black Panthers, the Symbionese Liberation Army, the Red Brigades, etc……

Truthfully, I don’t think a Republican in DC can get treated with the same respect or consideration as a pussy Dhimmicrat anywhere in the country. Because Rs are Men and Women and Dhimmicrats are thugs and cowards.

Violent thugs, and bullies who wear their cowardice on their sleeves every day.

Abortion will be the next big healthcare “issue.” Today, it’s still illegal immigrants. :)

For the record, I think the rally speakers are hitting the sweet spot about where we all converge and agree.

AnninCA on September 12, 2009 at 2:21 PM

No, it’s right now. Don’t think we aren’t aware that Obama intends to cover abortions.

There should be an age limit here somehow. 12 year olds really shouldn’t be in a place like this. Where are the parents?

Really CW, you’re the new definition of pathetic.

didn’t see a peep about this in the news.

rob verdi on September 13, 2009 at 7:57 AM

The whole left claim to exude civility but have a low level of tolerance, when they are not getting their way they turn to violence.

While we of a conservative bent, tolerate much more evil forced on us by those on the left and will peacefully demonstrate no matter how much the left taunt us.

The gaseous effluent from one Obama speech should be able to lift a Macy’s balloon within an hour.
