I will be going out to CAPT Bob Dolan's bench in the Pentagon Memorial later tonight, after a brief stop in the chapel... Saw his widow on the local news this evening before coming in...

Some day I will get up to Ground Zero and pay my respects to my friend Mike McGinty...

RIP Classmates. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

This is fricking sickening! I cannot believe what I am seeing.
On Sept. 25, Dar ul Islam, a mosque in Elizabeth, N.J., is slating a massive Friday "jummah" prayer event at the west front of the U.S. Capitol; on the very site that President Obama gave his inauguration speech not so long ago. This is not a joke. Click on this site and the strains of the sonorous Islamic call to prayer (which will be heard at the Capitol, I am guessing), will flow from your computer's loudspeakers. The mid-day summons to Allah will echo amongst Washington's most august monuments, the site says "for the sole purpose of prayer." And "the peace, beauty and solidarity of Islam will shine through the America's capital."

Solidarity? America's Muslims have such on-and-off mosque attendance statistics, it's impossible to get a realistic count of how many of them there are in this country. Methinks a lot of other religious groups aren't going to be happy about this jummah rally. "A Day of Islamic Unity," the event is called. Well, I guess if Louis Farrakhan could preach from the same spot during the Million Man March nearly 14 years ago, so can these folks. They're talking about reserving 500 buses and talking about 50,000 attendees, so this could be one big clump of folks who head for lunch at Union Station afterward.

The Star-Ledger in Newark came out with the story about all this on Thursday. The idea, according to organizers, is to celebrate Muslims already being an integral part of American society.

Well, if you can have giant menorahs on the White House lawn each December, you can have Muslims praying about one-quarter mile to the north. So if Islamic muezzins will chant out the "adhan," the call to worship, to folks kneeling on prayer rugs on the west front lawn, does that make the Capitol dome a minaret?

BTW-Why isn’t the Pres in New York today. He can take his angry wife to New York for dinner but can’t be there for 9-11 ceremonies.

rjoco1 on September 11, 2009 at 11:41 AM

Give the guy a break. why he spent a full twenty minutes on Memorial Day giving a speech before heading for a golf course and workout. And remember how he treated our fallen wounded during the campaign? He had to work out instead of visiting a hospital, as I recall.

The Washington press corps should ask about some of the specifics of the attacks. Think you have heard Um, ahhh, oohmm, hmmm, before?

May the souls who died that day have mercy on Obama for his indifference to their suffering and mercy on me for my anger. I hope that they ask God for our forgiveness since they are so much closer to Him than either of us are ever likely to be.

Ed,
Thanks for introducing me to Project 2996. I volunteered my website to help and was given Port Authority Police Officer Ken Tietjen. After reading more about him, I am honored to be able to post a tribute to this fine First Responder:

I forgot to add that the president of Cantor Fitzgerald was spared b/c he had to be late b/c he had to drop-off his son at school, then go to his office at the top of one of the towers.

All of 'em died except him. Of course he was a total mess (you think you should have died with them vs. being spared of such a death vs. all your staff dead).

My sister and I thought at the time that he was gonna commit suicide when we watched his TV interviews. Thank God he didn't, and got himself together and his company is up and running again.

My memories at the time where I was:

1-Silly but true. Big Brother was going on, and at the time one African American contestant along with the rest of the pack did not know, of course, about the attacks. CBS was wondering how to break it to them (esp. about this contestant), since her sister worked at one of the towers and family did not know at the time where she was/if she was alive or not. CBS were very tactful as in to let them know in a very mild way what happened so they were not gonna be shocked and leave at once, or to let that contestant out to look for her sister (still wondering about that one!)

2-I was vacay here on PA w/husband and then baby boy; did not live here in the country yet. Baby was w/inlaws, hubby and I were enjoying Cleveland, hotel, saw a ball game. Juan "Igor" Gonzalez was the VIP player of the evening. That was 9/10. On the 9th I wanted to sleep in then go sightseeing. Then I was awakened by either phone call or husband to turn to the TV and watch. We did not know what to do quickly but thought the best idea yet is to get to the baby. I remember looking at the TV, still groggy, asking my husband, "They got everybody out, did they?" :(

I swear I can't remember the hotel, many ppl checking out of course, hotel staff DID NOT WAIVE US a fee for early checkout. We rumbled about it, but we just had to. Got call too by his aunt, had a hunch to get the hell outta downtown CLE and go to her office. When we left the hotel, it looked like time stood still. Almost everybody was motionless on the sidewalks watching the jumbotrons on the bldgs.

Then we found out another plane was missing, lost communication. Ppl calling hysterical on all radio stations, women crying, you get it. The info was, if you see an a/c out in the sky, call 911 immediately since all flights were diverted/landed/grounded. So there I was, husband driving as fast as he could and me looking up at the sky with cell phone in hand. Husband thought plane was gonna hit downtown Pittsburgh (!!!!!!) All malls, Rock & Roll Hall of fame, every business closed. We headed up to her office still she was shaken up as her staff too. They felt pretty safe there but basically doing next to nothing, watching TV.

She was very relieved to see us there, my sis was trying to get a hold of me b/c I was vacationing in PA. Rumors were that plane was heading to DC but was on PA area last seen. Cell phone communications were, you can imagine, barely worked if nothing, as well as regular phones. When she did, she screamed at me, "OF ALL STATES IN THE COUNTRY, IT HAD TO BE PENNSYLVANIA!" worried sick of us. I was calmly telling we were all accounted for, that we were lucky plane did not hit our in-law's property (part of it as deserted as Shanksville).

We hit it off back to the house and our baby boy, by then we confirmed for sure about Shanksville PA (ex girlfriend of husband lives there) so I thought about that too.

After that, film after film, I just was a walking zombie absorbing everything in. Of course when Pentagon got hit we cuzzed like crazy and thought, "this means war!" and did not know really what was gonna happen then. Surprise, shock, hope that "everybody got out safe" in my stupor (remember I did not watch for a while TV so I did not see the ppl jumping off), then seriously alarmed, nervous, some relief when we hit both our destinations and saw our relatives, then scared and serious anger when everything sank in.

This is the best I can do; never forget where I was, and watch again and again footage of that day. Now I have to tell both kids, esp. my son, about that day. I'm sure they will hear some about it today.

THANKS FOR READING ME; SORRY FOR THE LENGTH! May all souls rest in peace.

That’s why their media has never shown the jumpers or many of the other painful images from that day. Because they desperately want Americans to forget that their own negligence resulted in the worst attacks on civilians on US soil in the country’s history.

And please keep in mind that there is absolutely no way to separate the politics from 9/11. Not as long as the Right uses 9/11 as a baseball bat, and not as long as the Left refuses to accept that they now have ownership of 9/11.

BradSchwartze on September 11, 2009 at 11:20 AM

You have it all wrong.

The 9/11 attacks were "owned" by the Democrats from the get-go, because they were planned and trained for on Bill Clinton's watch, and the Democrats know it. In fact, they were supposed to happen on his watch.

That's why their media has never shown the jumpers or many of the other painful images from that day. Because they desperately want Amrticans to forget that their own negligence resulted in the worst attacks on civilians on US soil in the country's history.

I shall never forget that day, I was driving down Ft Sill Blvd, on my way to a dental appt, radio on, when I heard that a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers....I arrived at the office to find everyone glued to the TV, watching a replay of the first plane hitting, we talked of such a terrible accident, and then the second hit, the gasps and the shocked responses haunt me, someone said it has to be a terrorist attack, all of us quietly prayed.... after watching for 45 more mins, still stunned and shocked, work started.....I got home, turned on the tv and couldn't tear my self away, I went through 5 boxes of tissues in 4 days....

God Bless every life so tragically cut short, God Bless all those who struggled to save so many, God Bless the workers who worked so tirelessly to clear the area and find the remains of loved ones lost, God Bless those who still suffer from that fateful day, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

We need His blessings and guidance to help us through these troubed times......

One of the many saddest memories for me, were the volunteers making a thousand stretchers for the anticipated victims to be transported to hospitals and none of them were used.

I am always paralyzed on this day. Still in my pj's, walking around in circles. This year I do have every light and TV on in the house, while the car idles on the driveway in honor of Obama's call for green/service. I'll have to get more gas soon, but it won't be the first time I've driven to the gas station in my pj's.

God bless the U.S.A.

So much has changed in the last 8 years. I got my driver's license, took my ACT's and SAT's, graduated high school. started college, completed papers and took tests, and graduated college.

One thing hasn't changed: I'm still mad. Mad at OBL, mad at the evil people out there who would condemn so many people to death because of their nationality and ideals, mad at the people who enable those people to operate. I am continually shocked and stunned every time I see video of the attacks on that day so long ago. There is only one major difference between me on 9/11/01 and 9/11/09. I can do something about it now.

Sleep tight, OBL, I'm looking for you.

For those with strong enough nerves, Atlas Shrugs has a series of excellent 9-11 posts.
I’ll fault no one who ‘passes’ on it, today.
Be warned, they’re not pulling ANY punches.

I watched the video about the people who jumped from the towers.

It brought back all the rage I felt at the ISLAMIC Terrorists that did this.

Of course the SCM wouldn't want to show this sort of thing – it might enrage people and steel their nerves against the Islamofascists – can't have that, don't you know.

I remember being stunned by the photo of the firefighters carrying the body of Fr. Mychal Judge, the priest who was killed by falling debris while giving last rites to a dying firefighter.

He was my childhood pastor and it was such a shock. He was listed as the first known victim of 9/11.

RIP, Fr. Mychal.

As yet, this is the only 9/11 thread, Ed.

On Sept. 11, 2001, Barack Obama was driving to a state legislative hearing in Chicago when he heard the first sketchy reports of a plane hitting the World Trade Center on his car radio. The 40-year-old state senator spent the afternoon in his law office watching "nightmare images" of destruction and grief unfold on TV.

Within days, he'd issued a statement about what the nation should do next.

Beyond the immediate needs to improve security and dismantle "organizations of destruction," Obama wrote, lay the more difficult job of "understanding the sources of such madness." He wrote of "a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers," of "embittered children" around the world, of the seeds of discontent sown in poverty, ignorance and despair.

The nuanced musings of an obscure state senator, Obama's statement never even made the big Chicago dailies.

Never made it to the blogosphere? Google doesn't pull up Obama's 2001 Statement.

Can HotAir & friends locate that text? There's nothing more disgusting than being fed Yahoo News revisionism of selected "key words" filled in with current PC fabrication for what could prove to be a big fat WHOLE CLOTH EGYPTIAN SALE to plug The One in office.
