The founding fathers believed that the importance played by religion was a moral group of citizens and that it is a requirement for our "open" society.

Figures AP would pose this question.

All day Saturday, I didn't see any discussion of religion but I did see plenty of signs expressing a religious value. Discussions seemed to revolve around basic conservative principles and sticking to the constitution. I think believing in God is nonsense for a requirement but abiding by "God's law" is a good requirement. Six of the ten commandments are not about religion but about moral behavior. The seven deadly sins and opposing virtues are moral values. It keeps the divisiveness of one's personal religious beliefs out but keeps the overwhelming importance of moral values in.

Nice try at finding a wedge.

Wow, an admission that you need help is the first step to accepting Christ.

Reverence for God is to get us American's back to the founding fathers intent, part of that whole "in God we trust" thing. Or part of the Constitution which "free exercise therof" of your religion is allowed and not criminalized by the ACLU or CrockObama or any loon in San Francisco's 9th circus court.

While we’re on the subject, anyone want to try explaining to me why this is a “core principle” of what amounts in practice to a giant tea party?
I believe in God and He is the center of my life.

AP, I know you are not really wanting to hear the answer to this question, but you asked, so I'll give it to you.

It is important to have this as one of the core principles, because it IS one of the core principles. Despite the fact that you are free to not believe in God, this principle is THE core of everything in the system of Government that is and was America.

Even if you are not willing to accept God in your life, the founders founded the Constitution, and the nation, on the concept that some things just are. As they put it, "We hold these truths to be self evident..." , and then went on to ascribe the concept of unalienable rights as those endowed to us by our Creator. Now, AP, you may not believe that concept, but your rejection does not make it less true that it was the basis for the constitution that followed. It is also true that your rejection of the concept placed you in the company of the statists who, among other things, tell us that the Constitution is a living document that is subject to change with politics winds. If you do not want to accept that your rights are from God, then you must accept that they are from some other source. Whatever that source might be, it would not be the one outlined i the Constitution.

To now look at our rights through the lens of the Atheist, the Statist, or both, would require a gross reconsideration of determined law. The process of such reconsideration would be political in nature, and in my opinion would not likely today be conducive to the survival of the rights we are discussing. If rights come from law alone the framers and their Constitution were wrong. If they were wrong about that then the Statist will argue that they were wrong about other things too.

That, AP is why this is one of the core principles.

Making a belief in god a criteria for expressing your view or making it a requirement to express your views is not proper.

When asking those in the movement if they have a belief in God or a higher being you will find the number to be far greater than imagined.

On the other hand if asked whether God is a requirement for membership in the 'Black Panthers' I am sure you'll be stoned by those members that are stoned trying to find themselves as their higher being.

Allapundit--on the belief in God thing as a core principle-its necesssary. He is supreme authority and we who are saved by his race know that and don't have a problem with that. Its all the ACLU/pc bullcrap that tries to destroy that.

So if you don't want to believe--hey--your option. Son't call me when the flames of hell are burning your ass at a distance and your just getting closer. It will be too late.

The greatest relationship that any human can have is with the God of all the universe through--and only through--Jesus Christ his son.

And don't bother pulling the "exclusive or inclusive" card at the Beama Seat. That ain't gonna work either.

"George Washington wrote in his Farewell Address of 1796, "Let it simply be asked where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation deserts the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation in the Courts of Justice? And let us with caution indulge the opposition, that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that National morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

Our Founders affirmed that the natural rights enumerated in our Declaration of Independence and, by extension, as codified in its subordinate guidance, our Constitution, are those endowed by our Creator."

massrighty on September 12, 2009 at 11:48 AM
Oh, please, please let them try that.

That would be a turning point in the effort to restore liberty to America. It would make absolutely clear just how Fascist this administration really is. Unfortunately, I think Obama is a little too cagey to do that.

I’m going to make you vote on this; I want to know how many think it’s so important that it should be some guiding light for grassroots conservatism, which is what the Project amounts to in practice.

It's Beck's project. He's done the work. If you don't like his platform, don't join or form your own project.

Exit quotation from peeved liberal James Poniewozik: “You want to bring back the feeling of national unity and civility, Glenn Beck? You could start by not using this tragedy as your personal political platform.”

Yes, do what the donks do: Redefine, rename, and whitewash what occurred on 9/11/2001 for their own personal political platform. Just to to hell, Poniewozik! And take all the donks, lefties, and Vichy Right with you.
