Cell Phones for Me, Wife and 2 Kids=$90
Total = $235
My cost for health insurance per month (family plan) = $425

The cost at hospitals for doctors visits in ridiculous. When my father was there for a serious condition a few years back, a specialist stuck his head in Dad’s room and asked how he felt. He may have read Dad chart at the nurse’s station, regardless he charged $350 on the bill. This is some of the crap that needs to stop.

For once, I wish they just look at the cost drivers for the medical field and maybe then, they might find the real culprit of the cost spiral.

I keep coming back to “innovation” as a key cost driver, which is actually a good thing. Think about it, it’s not aspirin or antibiotics that are driving prices up. Those things have been around for years and are commodities, which means there are plenty of substitutable manufacturers and you have to compete at least partially on price. It’s the new drugs and treatments that are expensive, because the companies are trying to recoup their R&D costs and make a profit while their patent is in force.

But, you’re right, I’d like to see a pie chart that breaks down the % cost increase year-over-year from different cost categories. If “innovation” is driving most of the cost increase, and individuals want to save money on their health care, use “last year’s” treatments.

I heard a lady on the radio make an interesting observation. She noted that if you want to know who takes nice vacations talk to waitresses and waiters. They don’t have insurance normally but they take nice holidays.

I once had a 2 hour argument with a young female in a pub when ClintonCare© was shot down. She bemoaned the fact that she, a single woman in her early 20′s, could not afford to have a baby without the government paying for her expenses. I incredulously asked her why she would be so selfish as to want to bring a baby in the world when she had done nothing to prepare to be a fit parent. Beginning with being married to a suitable partner to help care for the child. And why I should help pay for her irresponsibility?

Somehow, she has not kept in touch with me over the years.

I drink bourbon but otherwise I agree with you. Getting drunk is far superior to “thinking” about stuff.

This video could be foreshadowing two possibilities:

1) That a 40 will be a better health-coverage choice than Obamacare (this takes competition to a whole new level), or…

2) Obamacare rationing will provide the sick and dying with their choice of one low-priced 40 (ex: Milwaukee’s Best)
