Nielsen ratings: So You Think You Can Dance tops So You Think You Can Lie

posted at 6:25 pm on September 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

To the great surprise of no one except Robert Gibbs, airing a reality show in lieu of yet another rerun of “If You Like Your Plan, You Can Keep Your Plan” was a good idea — in all the important demographics, anyway. No word on what the over-50 crowd was tuned into, but given the way The One’s polling with seniors these days he’d better hope they had “Dance fever” too.

Hard numbers: 31.8 million total viewers across 10 networks for Obama’s speech. That’s a decent pick-up from his heath-care presser in July, which drew 25 million when no one was paying attention to the issue yet. But to put it in perspective, the snoozer he held in April to celebrate his first 100 days drew almost as many people as last night’s supposedly historic, hyper-hyped, Beyond Thunderdome Obama mega-event. He did 52 million for his State of the Union address in February; now his signature policy issue — and the cause of Ted Kennedy’s life, as we’ve been reminded eight thousand times in the past 10 days — earns him a little more than half that. Hopenchange fee-vah!

He followed his press secretary’s lead and did a little whining about Fox in his speech this morning too, albeit much more personably than Gibbs, natch. Skip ahead to about 30 seconds in. Click the image to watch.

Our family is a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance. And while it was a school night and the kids were doing homework, we did DVR our favorite show. Same with the new show Glee.

Glad to see that Americans tuned into something new rather than the same ol same ol from Obama.

Semi-related as it deals with funding healthcare.

A video from 10000pennies: Balancing the Obama Budget With A Mandatory Gorilla

Mandatory spending in the form of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and interest on the national debt is growing every year and making it more and more difficult to balance the budget.

This video walks through a visualization of the budget by 2017 and wonders if it is prudent to add healthcare reform to the portion of the budget that can’t be reduced.

I liked his videos better with pennies but I imagine that was a LOT of work.

I especially like his point at the end about that baby gorilla growing up and wanting to be fed… or else!!!

So how long is it before Michelle goes on Big Brother 12, Joe Biden is on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, The Obama girls are on Real World-Sesame Street, Bo is on Groomer Has It, etc. Robert Gibbs could even replace Whoopi on The View!

The only place the two shows were competing was the east coast. The rest of the country didn’t have to choose between the two. How do they compare two broadcasts against each other that weren’t on at the same time in all parts of the country? Not that I’m defending Obama. It just seems odd.

I thought I was watching “So You Think You Can Dance“.

Obama’s “no silver bullet soft shoe was semi-competent.

But the generic tap-dancing around “how to pay for it” went off the rails pretty fast, primarily when he started the little “pirouette” about how “old government waste will pay for new government waste“.

Trying to end with a “bipartisan” split was simply laughable and embarrassing, considering that his entire lead up to it in the speech was not much more than a routine of demonizing and demeaning his opposition.

Three thumbs down.
