It’s come to this: Olbermann lectures Joe Wilson

posted at 9:47 pm on September 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

A very special comment indeed on the eve of 9/11 from a guy who thinks Fox News is “worse than Al Qaeda,” who regards any and all criticism of Barack Obama as thinly veiled racism, and who treats the veritable certainty that ObamaCare will eventually be extended to illegal immigrants as the height of paranoia. Not a single word uttered about the president’s assurance that our trillion-dollar health-care “experiment” will supposedly be deficit-neutral. It’s all about Joe Wilson, don’t you know.

Keith Olbermann giving a lecture about civility? Oh man. That’s rich.

SoulGlo on September 10, 2009 at 10:05 PM

Yes. This from a man who screamed on television at the top of his lungs (directed at a sitting President), “Shut the hell up!”

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on September 10, 2009 at 10:18 PM

Is it true that Keith Olbermann once smoked illegal substances with Barack Obama at Occidental College?

It’s not, of course. But it would be hilarious if it were true.

Which it’s not. Really. So stop this rampant speculation.

for all those people that say you can’t watch you should at least check out that part.

Joe Caps on September 10, 2009 at 10:12 PM

I let it load by pushing pause immediately and fast-forwarded to that part. It was good and it was fun to see new camera shot – new camera shot – new camera shot in fast motion with the sound off.
Dude is seriously p-o’d he worked so hard last night and not even “his people” tuned in.

What about those 2 lines from HR3200 about no health care for illegals that he mentioned? Are those really in there?

My step-daughter’s dad called her tonight after KO’s show to razz her for having a stupid conservative step-father. (He’s a long-time NJ lefty.) He had her ask me if I thought Obama lied about illegals being covered by the government-run health control plan.
I let her read this to him: http://corporate.lexisnexis.com/news/corporate-counsel,compliance/cat200001_doc1029241403.html
And then let her describe the voting record for the Republican Amendment that would have closed the loophole, but was voted down. After that, she says, he ranted for 10 minutes against the bill.
Thanks Olby!

Let’s do a little thought experiment.

During the 2003 SOTU speech, a crazed Democratic congressman screeches out “YOU LIE” while Bush lays out his case that Hussein possesses WMD’s. The congressman quickly apologizes and is castigated by his peers. Does this help the anti-war cause, or does this guy de-legitimize his own position?

Republicans are hunted down, given a blade, and forced to watch KO everynight for a week or until they die, whichever comes first. Which is silly because half would be dead w/in the first 5 minutes the first night.

There’s a huge difference between the two moron, and you know it. Murmurs of disapproval, and even booing are not unheard of, and are part of the political theatre. Screeching out “You lie” in the middle of a joint session of Congress is unprecedented. If Wilson had done the same during a normal House session he would likely have faced a formal reprimand.

crr6 on September 10, 2009 at 10:35 PM

Joe Wilson gets thrown to the media wolves…by John McCain…..mmmmm…

I’m trying to decide if the GOP really WANTS BIGGER FED GOV’T and they are just going to let the Dems be the bad cop in this.

After all don’t both parties benefit from expanding their power and influence?

Haven’t both parties thrown America to the debtor wolves?

I had been a Repub back to 1970′s but in the last few years (started with the Immigration Amnesty that Bush 43 tried) I’ve started to wonder WHY the GOP doesn’t defend “limited gov’t” and other Conservative values. Can someone please provide a reasonable explanation for this (other than that both parties are in fact in bed with Multi-national companies or debtors that are selling out our U.S. national interests for the sake of the greater “NEW WORLD ORDER”)?

I’m just trying to understand for myself…..why isn’t the GOP standing up to this guy in the White House?

Why did McCain essentially give up at that TOWN HALL in Minnesota when he said we have nothing to fear from an Obama Presidency?

Why are we watching our nation slip away…..powerless to stop it? If the GOP and Dems are both in bed with the special interests and want to grow their power how will we ever recover it?

Anyone have any answers to that? Are we doomed to be powerless to the Keith Olbermanns’ of the world?

It would be a big shrug. It’s not like lefties are above that sort of thing, now is it? Maybe Code Pink could come in in a sort of can-can line.

Obama doesn’t become more “trustworthy” or “truthful” just because moonbats get their feelings hurt that their messiah is called a liar by an alleged “caffeine-crazed corporate tool”.

Screeching out “You lie” in the middle of a joint session of Congress is unprecedented.

I’m sure that various panty-waists were horrified to tears when booing was first heard in Congress too.

A precedent has not been set, past Congresses were far noisier and confrontational than this current one, we just haven’t seen it in a while.

crr6 on September 10, 2009 at 10:20 PM

Palin resigned and is now more powerful than ever. That is why Obama has to whine and cry every time she calls him out.

You are talking about Joe the Plumber like he was an elected official.
What happened to your peace mom Sheehan liberal.
Now she is calling out democrats for the hypocritical liars that they are so she gets no attention and no more moral authority from the “smart ones”.

Your $400,000 is not going to do you any good in a district that has gone Republican for the last 44 years including the blood bath of the last two elections.
Try reading some more and looking at the generic polling that shows more people claiming to be conservative now than liberal.
Your bogus CNN polling of 45% democrat to 18% Republican to jerry your numbers is not going to help you here.

You might also want to step outside and see who is really “groveling” when democrats spend the whole day whining about Wilson calling Obama the same things you liberals called Bush for eight years….Now they have vindicated Wilson by having to address the very loophole he called Obama out on:

Rep. Wilson Outburst Leads Senate Dems to Close Loophole in Health Reform Bill

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/10/rep-wilson-outburst-leads-senate-dems-close-loophole-health-reform/

In the Senate, Democrats in the so called “Gang of Six,” began moving quickly to close the loophole Rep. Joe Wilson helped bring to light with his outburst during President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night.

All this whining by the “smart ones” like crr6 here the big, bad, mean ol Wilson and now they have to live with the fact he was right the whole time.

During the 2003 SOTU speech, a crazed Democratic congressman screeches out “YOU LIE” while Bush lays out his case that Hussein possesses WMD’s. The congressman quickly apologizes and is castigated by his peers. Does this help the anti-war cause, or does this guy de-legitimize his own position?

crr6 on September 10, 2009 at 10:24 PM
How about this for a ‘precendent’ you useless tool…
When Obama said that there were NO thoughtful additions to the healthcare bill from the Republicans, dozens of hands raised up, with paperwork they had written to refute that lie. They may not have come out and called him a liar vocally, but the response was the same. Your messiah is a liar, plain and simple. I’ve been reading your intellectually deficient drivel on this site for weeks now, and can truly say, I’d love to meet you in a dark alley. We’d have alot to “talk” about. It’s obvious that you have never left your parent’s basement, or if you did, it was right into the cesspool of paid agitators for the marxist left. I love watching you look like a fool on this site.
Just my 2 cents, which is all i may have in the future if your deal leader has anything to say about it.

Another of crap6 lies: ‘Crazies’ ( something this troll has first-hand knowledge of ) were on Bush BEFORE HE TOOK office in late 2000; before 9/11. They took a few weeks off, then were back out in full force.

Read the past files of Kos and DU: They were doing their Crazy BushHitler Thing in a lot less than ’4 – 5 years’

Like its hero Obama, crr6 just makes Stuff up…..

Sarah Palin resigned and Obama just can’t stop thinking about her. hmm… she WINS given Obama finds himself responding to her. Were she irrelevant and not having an impact he or the Left would not waste time on her. They fear her!

Well, first, as others have pointed out — the comparison starts off with a fallacy — Bush was not lying, he was proceeding on the best intelligence available at the time. Intelligence corroborated both by US and foreign intelligence organizations. So, your thought experiment fails out of the gate.

However, just for the sake of the argument, let’s proceed to the second part of your “thought experiment”:
While no single dem called out during a Bush speech, many of those speeches were interrupted by general boos and catcalls that couldn’t be traced to a single Dem (your party is cowardly that way, they don’t like to be personally accountable for anything). Secondly, while they may not have shouted during the speeches, they certainly made equally strong and much more libelous and vicious statements to the press and public after those speeches. Seems to have endeared them with their liberal base. So, even on this point, your thought experiment fails to demonstrate the point you thought you were going to make. i.e., analogous actions did occur and that didn’t seem to drive hard core lefties to the Republican party.

That was painful to watch. A 10 minute condescending rant against anyone who disagrees with The One’s lazy plans to ‘reform’ healthcare.

Was it right for Wilson to heckle the President? Perhaps not.

I think there was a point in there, but in his rush to seem clever he manages to be offensive and to denigrate any opposition. All opposition is of course racist or fomented by healthcare lobbyists. What a neat little answer.

He’s a polarizing figure trying to cash in. Hope his ratings improve but as things stand they are pretty poor.

crr6 on September 10, 2009 at 11:00 PM

That’s because the psychotics that make up the democratic party are still in full swing and the only way liberals can hide from this is to use their friends in the media to make up stories and lie about the violence from the supposed “crazy right wing”.
Here is who the crazies really are backed up by facts, something liberals don’t have on their side:

The Town Halls of August
They’re here, they’re conservative, get used to it.
by Mary Katharine Ham
09/14/2009, Volume 014, Issue 48
http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/016/908cxoqy.asp

Not to state the obvious or anything, but the climate of paranoia and violence that enveloped our political system this August was largely a creation of people like Matthews and Olbermann. The edge on which we’re dancing is about as dangerous as the one Ren McCormack danced on at the Beaumont prom in Footloose. But the newly dour John Lithgows of the left won’t stand for dancing, conveniently forgetting Camp Casey, Code Pink, papier-mâché Bush effigies, assassination fantasies, Bushitlerisms, profane signage, and the vandalism and violence that marked their own dissent earlier in this decade.

That’s the full list of documented violence from the August meetings. In more than 400 events: one slap, one shove, three punches, two signs grabbed, one self-inflicted vandalism incident by a liberal, one unsolved vandalism incident, and one serious assault. Despite the left’s insistence on the essentially barbaric nature of Obamacare critics, the video, photographic, and police report evidence is fairly clear in showing that 7 of the 10 incidents were perpetrated by Obama supporters and union members on Obama critics. If you add a phoned death threat to Democrat representative Brad Miller of N.C., from an Obama-care critic, the tally is 7 of 11.

And if you extend the census into September, you can add the most severe injury of all, which happened during a fight at a September 2 rally backing Obamacare in Thousand Oaks, Calif., hosted by the left-wing activist group MoveOn.org. Police have not determined who started the fight, but it ended when one of the Obamacare supporters “bit off the left pinky” of counterdemonstrator William Rice after Rice threw a punch, according to police. The Obamacare supporter, who could be charged with mayhem, left the scene before police arrived, and though Rice’s missing digit was recovered, doctors were unable to reattach it because “a human bite has so much bacteria,” Rice told me. Several liberal commentators took the opportunity to hail the forcible amputation as a victory of government-run medicine over a hypocritical Obama critic. Because Rice is 65, he is covered by Medicare.

All in all, a not inconsiderable amount of that “dancing on the dangerous edge” Chris Matthews bemoans is being done by the very same people who are fretting that tea partiers will destroy this once-great nation.

As anyone in touch with reality can see, the very people who yell and scream the loudest usually aren’t practicing what they are preaching.

But don’t let the facts get in your way crr6,stay on your knees to your liberal hero Obama and keep chanting the same talking points like a broken record.

Just like sheep, you can go right off the cliff with Obama yelling the whole way down how much smarter you are than everybody else.

The Dean on September 10, 2009 at 11:15 PM

This was a political speech. It was not a State of the Union Address. The SOTU decorum does not apply. Obama and the D’s have locked GOP out of discussion. Obama stacked his “townhalls” Obama hasn’t faced real criticism or protest from anybody.

Joe Wilson deserves our commendation not our condemnation. He was the only representative there, representing the MAJORITY of Americans feelings on the current “What Bill?”.

BS. I was a liberal when Bush became president and for most of his presidency and the psycho started way, way before 2004. It’s one of the things that turned me off the ideology permanently. The BS other liberals were spouting and what I saw of the man himself didn’t quite mesh.
