Demagogue-in-chief on Joe Wilson’s apology: I just wish we could be less vitriolic, you know?

posted at 4:05 pm on September 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

I know you do, champ. That’s why you farm out the rhetoric about “evil-mongers” and “political terrorists” to halfwits like Harry Reid and Democrats in the House instead of dirtying those dainty hands of yours. But as painful as the vitriol might be to your tender Hopenchangey heart, you never open your mouth to specifically rebuke your own side, do you? A wise man once had something to say about presidents who don’t keep their surrogates in line, but never mind, I guess. Enjoy the lecture from Captain Civility:

After what he called an “excellent and informative Cabinet meeting,” President Obama told reporters that he accepts the apology of Rep. Joe Wilson, R-SC, who shouted “You lie!” during the president’s address to a joint session of Congress last night.

“Yes I do,” the president said. “I’m a big believer that we all make mistakes. He apologized quickly and without equivocation. And I’m appreciative of that.”

Mr. Obama then turned to use Wilson as something of an example – making this a teachable moment, perhaps – saying that “we have to get to the point where we can have a conversation about big, important issues that matter to the American people without vitriol, without name-calling without the assumption of the worst in other people’s motives.”

That’s from Tapper, who uncharacteristically lets this insulting garbage go unchallenged. Meanwhile, remember how the media started digging into Joe the Plumber’s financial past after he had the temerity to question The One? History repeats itself, my friends. And that’s not the only thing Wilson and JTP have in common. As I recall, Wurzelbacher’s concern was that Obama would raise his taxes — which, of course, he will, for the simple reason that our enormous deficits now demand it. Wilson’s concern about ObamaCare is similarly well founded. You can watch him explain his reasoning below (or read Ramesh Ponnuru elaborating on it), but there are at least three good reasons to think coverage will eventually expand to include illegals. One: That’s what federal programs do. Public schools weren’t designed to serve non-citizens either but compassion and equal protection rulings by a left-leaning Supreme Court changed that. No reason to think it won’t happen with ObamaCare. Two: As noted by MayBeeTweet, Obama’s argument in wanting to give driver’s licenses to illegals was that it was a “public safety issue.” It’d be very easy — although maybe not politically salable — to expand that logic to covering illegals under ObamaCare because it’s a “public health issue.” And three: When you’ve got The One and Harry Reid angling to pass an amnesty bill next year, it doesn’t matter if ObamaCare covers illegals or not. If the White House gets its way (which it probably won’t), those illegals will soon be legal anyway.

One other point. I realize that the media generally and NBC in particular need to spin Wilson’s outburst as some sort of big victory for Obama, but how stupid would one have to be, exactly, to believe that? The “Republicans behaving badly” meme failed epically last month, and the headline “You lie!” surely wasn’t what the White House wanted to see on Drudge this morning. Says Tom Price of Wilson, “What it has done has drawn attention to the fact that the president’s statements so often are at variance with the truth.” Indeed. Or, if you prefer the blunter Tancredo version, “Joe is right. Obama is a liar.” So he is, and so he’ll remain as long as he keeps trying to sell this boondoggle as some deficit-neutral emergency rescue plan to solve a crisis that, for most people, simply doesn’t exist. You lie, Barry. And lie and lie and lie.

When do we get to the point of the disagreement?

Who was lying? Obama or Wilson?

Let’s have THAT debate.

So as long as we are quick to apologize, Obama is man enough to allow us to support his position. That’s awfully big of him.

He also called her a prominent politician–suck that lib-tards.

Dainty little hands?

Allah, methinks I detect a little cynici-sarcasm aimed at Team Barry.

I agree with what Tom Price said about Wilson, “What it has done has drawn attention to the fact that the president’s statements so often are at variance with the truth.”

“at variance with the truth” = he tells WHOPPERS every time he opens his hopeychangy mouth!

It is the same as the abortion issue, if the law does not specify that abortions or illegal aliens will not be covered, they will be covered.

This is an increasingly polarized and tense society. But it is also true that Chavez must rely extensively on force and deception to promote his socialist project. His personal popularity has sunk under 50 percent in recent weeks (support for his policies are even lower) and he is becoming more radical

http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2009/05/29/we-dont-want-venezuela-to-become-a-totalitarian-communist-state/

Substitute the word Chavez for Obama and it reads the same.

Another interesting angle here is that Wilson apologized after ACCURATELY calling Obama a liar… at the very time Obama was dishonestly accusing the opposition of lying.

JellyToast on September 10, 2009 at 4:16 PM

I didn’t watch the sermon but saw the clip here on HA. The most entertaining part of this clip was watching the look on Zero’s face and Pelosi’s reaction. Both were priceless. As for what Wilson said – it’s the truth, and it’s what we’d all like to say to his (Zero’s) face. Much to-do about nothing.

Well after reading this poem by obama ive had a change of heart too

UNDERGROUND

Under water grottos, caverns
Filled with apes
That eat figs.
Stepping on the figs
That the apes
Eat, they crunch.
The apes howl, bare
Their fangs, dance,
Tumble in the
Rushing water,
Musty, wet pelts
Glistening in the blue.

Someone needs to tell this fool that we are paying more for more in health care. In fact, the advancement of medicine brings us so much more (that people demand to have access to as soon as possible) which is what is driving up health care costs. Only the dumbest person on Earth … or a big, fat LIAR would think to claim that anyone is “paying more for less” in health care. That was one of the dumbest statements made … though the day is still young and the Traitor-in-Chief will probably say a few things that are even dumber before the day’s over. But is it any wonder why liberals are always clamoring for free stuff and for government to take care of them? Whenever someone makes them feel an emotion (either happy, sad, anger, etc), they throw money to political campaigns.

I’d like to note to the Wilson fans that he apologized for the outburst.

It seems to me that it doesn’t make sense to celebrate his actions and hold him up as the pantheon of what you want while he himself is distancing himself from those very acts you praise.

I stand with katy and, simply, do not accept Wilson’s apology.

I think its much, much worse that a sitting President uses this occasion ,and forum,to describe political opponents as”Liars”.Dont you?

Yes, indeed. In a address to the nation and before Congress.

But all of that was lost in Wilson’s outburst.

The left – and this President who was silent if not worse over the past 3-4 years – have no grounds – none – to complain about vitriolic language.

SteveMG on September 10, 2009 at 4:37 PM

Same thing here. In a few days nobody will remember who Wilson is or if he apologized or if Barry accepted. They will remember Obama and liar. And that will stick around for a long time.

and perhaps it was some divine intervention to boot.

Obama = Liar

I accept his apology. From what I’ve heard about him, this was out of character for him.

And see what happened? The press and most of the public are talking about his comment and not the serial lying of Obama.

I hate it when we do dumb things that make us feel good but are not helpful.

The focus has to be on policies and not personalities.

SteveMG on September 10, 2009 at 4:40 PM

Obama happily accepts the apology while he has his people flood the campaign warchest of Wilson’s opponent and his goons in the media and government turn all the stones in the guy’s personal life to try and humiliate him.

Who obtained the personal info of Wilson’s finances and who leaked to the blog? How can someone do this legally?

RepubChica on September 10, 2009 at 4:40 PM

I don’t feel bad about anything anyone says to this president’s face. Sure the Libtards felt the same way about President Bush, but if he sent surrogates out to insult and berate average Americans I am still unaware of it.

the Press is talking about the Lying of Obama, through Wilson’s comment which asserts Obama lied, which makes people think atleast.

the MSM/Press was never, will never, take a speech by The One on anything and on their own highlight Obama’s Lies

ever
