Video: GOP congressman yells “liar” at Obama; Update: Wilson apologizes

posted at 9:27 pm on September 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson, who felt moved to act when The One told what was, in fact, a lie. Although certainly not his biggest of the night: Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. You’re Mr. Clean, aren’t you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. Nice work if you can get it.

I’m told that his magic number of “47 million” uninsured Americans magically dropped to 30 million uninsured in this speech, presumably to omit the illegal immigrants who were inflating the tally. Here’s a photo of Wilson at work. Click the image to watch.

Update: When do Obama and Reid apologize for their month of jackassery?

“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Joe Wilson now has an opportunity.
He will have press. He will have an audience!
Joe,, tell the American people why you called Obama a liar! Tell them on CNN. Tell them on MSNBC. Tell them on NBC, ABC and CBS. And if you really want a lot of people to hear why you shouted the word “Liar!” tell them on Fox News and talk radio! Put it in newspapers!
Joe,, go for it! You got nothing to lose now and half of America thinks you’re a hero!

JellyToast on September 9, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Pelosi’s facial expressions of outrage (which seemed to go on for several minutes after the fact) that anyone would dare question “The One” was orgasmic.

If you think the expression on her pruney face was priceless tonight, imagine what it will be when thousands of pissed-off tea party members hit the Capital steps starting tomorrow and for the next two days after!

pilamaye on September 9, 2009 at 9:49 PM

It was not the time or place for that. I always despised the way Pelosi, Hillary, and other Dem’s would make faces or otherwise be snarky when President Bush was speaking.

Exactly.

If we want to defeat this guy, we have to be calm and smart.

Swinging wildly makes no sense.

None at all.

SteveMG on September 9, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Thank you Joe Wilson for having guts!

Besides… Has anybody watched the House of Commons when the PM takes abuse from the opposition there….Happens all the time and I’ve seen it get pretty rough.

jerrytbg on September 9, 2009 at 9:45 PM

I was going to post this. Besides I’m tired of this faux respect which clearly is not mutual and went out the door the second Pelosi called the other side “Nazis” and everytime the race card is played.

SteveMG on September 9, 2009 at 9:36 PM

It was the perfect time and place. It’s time this liar is called for who he is. And what better time or place than this. This was the stage Obama planned to set up his proganda to the American people. The MSM won’t call him out, so it’s up to our representatives who are suppose to speak for us. I’m really glad that one of our reps had the courage to do so.

No people are just tired of being lectured and told to play nice when the liberals are down and dirty in the mud and winning. What Rep Wilson did will forward our point of view a hell of a lot more than nice refined interviews on MSNBC.

Seriously it’s time to play with the big boys or pick up your jacks and go home

Black Yoshi on September 9, 2009 at 9:51 PM

The left will try to shred this guy, but when he goes on Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Fox & Friends, Levin, Ingraham, et al, and says he was speaking for the American people Obama was insulting, I don’t think his crucifixion is quite going to go how the lefties think it will. After he’s done listing Obama’s LIES chapter and verse, what will be left for the libs to say: It was rude to point out — accurately — that the President was lying?

Rational Thought on September 9, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Anyone think Hillary and Pelosi had a pissing match after the fact about why one didn’t let the other know they’d be wearing red power pants suits to the one’s address? Comical. I think Billary really needed to try to assert some authority with her choice of dress, but she stuck out like the sore thumb she is and did nothing to make anyone take her seriously. Way to go Bozo.

Obama had just stated that opposition to health care reform was based on a lie. Obama used the word “lie” first. Had he not said that, Joe Wilson might not have gone off on him. There’s only so much a person can take and Joe reached his limit.

It’s been a long time coming.

The fact that this man has the same name as Valerie Plame’s husband, of couse, is a delightful irony.

Imagine the MSM trying explain, “No, not that Joe Wilson. The other one.”

Wethal on September 9, 2009 at 9:52 PM

If the GOP wants to be taken seriously again, the way to do that is through heckling. It’s especially reasonable since they didn’t even have a chance to respond after Obama’s speech! Wait, what? Oh.

Proud Rino on September 9, 2009 at 9:52 PM

Go look at Drudge right now. No one will remember Obama’s speech; only that he was called a liar. And for those who think it will allow him to play the victim card, he’s been trying that for months, and it hasn’t worked. The media has been running that narrative for months, and it hasn’t worked. Nope, what they will remember about this speech, is that he was called a liar, and talk radio and blogs will go bit by bit through this speech showing just that. This speech will hurt Obama; that “liar” call will destroy him.

Not any more – not when the very foundation of this country is at stake. We played nice – we nominated the “safe” bipartisan choice and what did it get us – the communist.

What about what Obama laid out tonight is “communist?” The vast majority of the stuff he spoke about is regulating the insurance industry — just as we regulated the railroad industry in the 19th century, and how we regulate wall street it doesn’t lead the country to the brink of a second great depression.

Regulation that would ensure people who are sick get the medical coverage they need. Regulation that is met with largely bi-partisan support.

And the public option — the biggest critique I heard of that and “obamacare” in general is that a government subsidized public option would make it impossible for insurance companies to compete. But he made it clear tonight that public option would not be subsidized by tax payers.

Now, my question to you is, how does this proposal threat the “fabric of our country”? What about it is “communist.”

Whether you like it or not Joe Wilson, you have just stepped forward in that line of cowards and you must make a decision from this point forward. Do I continue to walk and have others follow, or do I take a step back into the line of cowards. The choice is yours.

I would normally agree with that but Obama spent the whole speech disrespecting his predecesor (who by the way has been overly respectful back), lying and dissing the Republicans over everything, and lying to the American people.

Respect needs to be earned regardless of who you are and Obama has not earned it. I think the GOP was very respectful – I would have walked out.

We can defeat Obama but there’s more of folks like him to follow.

Defeat the quasi-socialist European statist loons that have the Democratic Party in their hands. Otherwise, like Tocqueville warned, we’ll be living in a “bland despotism” that will be impossible to get rid of.

Forty percent of Americans calle themselves conservative. We need another 11% to win.

Once again, I’m not going to upchuck my dinner by watching our Alinskite community organizer-in-chief spew his BS tonight.

toliver on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

I don’t have a problem with this – the Dems were being vocal in their support of Obama’s attacks on Republicans – he got a small taste of what he deserved from Wilson.

It also shows the folks at home that some in the GOP (aside from Sarah Palin) still have guts.

My hope is that now Nancy Pelosi will attempt to discipline him.

And by the way – a thought crossed my mind during this speech…

No matter how good a speech Obama could deliver – a large portion of it has to be canceled out by the image of the most unpopular woman in the nation hovering over his left shoulder the entire time.

I mean – just when you start to think that Obama MAYBE CAN produce everything he says for NO MONEY DOWN … just as you start to think “maybe” – that image of most incompetent House leader in history suddenly snaps you back to reality!

I’m scared for my nephews as to what kind of world we are leaving them and I’m scared that we are going to be living in a socialist country without our freedoms.

So I’ve decided to do what I can to stop this.

gophergirl on September 9, 2009 at 9:44 PM

I hear you. I am afraid for my daughters, too. The stakes are high, I know. We have a country to rescue. You are not alone.

doctormom on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Wilson the psycho KKKon definitely lured in a bunch of independents and fair minded Americans with that outrageous statement. Wheew

Afrolib on September 9, 2009 at 9:40 PM

What is outrageous about calling a lie a lie?

jimmy2shoes on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

I’m told that his magic number of “47 million” uninsured Americans magically dropped to 30 million uninsured in this speech, presumably to omit the illegal immigrants who were inflating the tally.

Emperor Obama was adamant that illegals would not be covered yet, as I understand it, his allies in congress voted down a provision that called for verifying citizenship status.

MB4 on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

It was not the time or place for that. I always despised the way Pelosi, Hillary, and other Dem’s would make faces or otherwise be snarky when President Bush was speaking.

Exactly.

If we want to defeat this guy, we have to be calm and smart.

Swinging wildly makes no sense.

None at all.

David Frum’s “New Majority” could use a boost in membership.

Check it out.

David2.0 on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Only Barry can accuse politicans of lying.
Not fun when get the mud thrown back, is it champ?
Nancy’s plastic face almost fell off. lol

RobCon on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

I can’t even get on to Wilsons page. It’s gone down.
I was trying to get contact info.
Anybody got it?

This guy is going to need support!

katy on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

He seems to be of a piece with other conservative heroes of the moment. A fake plumber with no real idea what he’s talking about, a politician who couldn’t be persuaded to finish the job she was elected to do or write a cogent phrase without help, and now a someone whose biggest claim to fame is that he’s a heckler — you know, the jerk in the back of the club who annoys everybody else who’s not in love with the sound of his voice, like he is.

you guys know how to pick ‘em. Of course, if I had Boehner, McConnell, Sanford and Enseign as leaders, I might go with the rookies, too.

Bleeds Blue on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Yes, but not at a joint address by the President on live television.

Sorry, but some of you people sound like the Kossacks. All fury, no thought.

SteveMG on September 9, 2009 at 9:53 PM

Well, pass the vodka, HornetSting, and LET THEM EAT CAKE HOBO CHEESE!

seejanemom on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

Easy enough problem to solve. Next time make him speak under oath.

Ronnie on September 9, 2009 at 9:40 PM

The shortest presidential speech in history would have to follow.

I’m all for Wilson. He did the right thing to the Chicago Jesus. It’s about time we “get in his face,” just the way he told his Obamsomol shock troops supporters to do during the campaign.

I am embarrassed for my country that we have such a lying, amoral totalitarian thug in the White House.

MrScribbler on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

If this was expensive red meat than Obama’s Czaristas must put him in the IOU zone…

Upstater85 on September 9, 2009 at 9:55 PM

Nope, he can print money to cover that.

Black Yoshi on September 9, 2009 at 9:57 PM

I wish Wilson would have thrown a shoe at him. Then the media would have giggled. Oh wait, they only applaud that when it is a Republican!
