Video: Democratic disarray

posted at 11:38 am on September 9, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

With Congress returning to DC, so too has the NRSC, and they review the past five weeks in health-care news in a 2-minute spot. Whither the public option? Kent Conrad says no, Nancy Pelosi says yes, and both Arlen Specter and Barack Obama say both yes and no:

It’s sort of like Hollywood Squares, except here you take the O for the loss. Enjoy.

If it isn’t out of the DNC, they won’t allow it into discussion.

The democrates are drunk on their power.
Obama feels that he can say anything he wants because he won: He has total disdain for old-fashioned ways of doing things, such as telling the truth.
Pelosi and Reid and Obama are totally in the tank of their union supporters.
On what possible basis can we believe anything that those supposed leaders tell us when they cram downed the stimulus bill, written by their supporters but not even read by them, all on the basis of some supposed emergency which was no emergency at all. They don’t care at all about driving up our debt orders of magnitude higher than anyone would have believed just a year ago.
How can we tolerate these jerks who want to impose a new and draconian health care system on Americans, when Americans like their current system but are willing to improve it, WHEN THOSE JERKS EXEMPT THEMSELVES from the disaster that they will inflict on us and our American way of life. How can any American tolerate this?

Is it just me or does Gibbs seem, after considerable time now, to be the most ludicrous example of a White House press secretary ever. I’ve never seen anyone who had to backtrack, step over his boss’s feet, or just flat out lie more than this poor guy. And he seems so clueless.

bloggless on September 9, 2009 at 12:05 PM

dumb ad and here’s why… they rip on the ‘leadership’. I don’t give a crap how well the democrats ‘lead’ on this issue. comes across like the gripe is that the democrats can’t decide how fast we need to drive toward that cliff.

debate the issues and you’ll win. continue with efforts like this which appeal to the echo chamber but don’t hit the substance of the debate which is the take over of the healthcare industry is a wasted effort IMO.

tear apart the dem talking points and one by one and demonstrate your own leadership GOP… come on! Do it! The dems are hoping to run out the clock.

Meh. Why are republicans so averse to a clear and vigorous denunciation of this plan on the grounds of liberty and common-sense rather than these inside-Washington markers like polls? None of these clips even came close to capturing the core outrage of the people or the core arrogance of democrats at townhalls wagging fingers and lecturing citizens or stuttering cluelessly in the face of simple questions about the bill. And why can’t the GOP fold the media and its lies and distortions into these ads. Surely they understand that the media is a key part of the axis powers in this fight, don’t they? You mean, they don’t?

In fact, when I think of all the material the GOP had to work with, all the opportunities for producing a killer ad, this effort feels kind of pathetic.

gatorboy on September 9, 2009 at 12:07 PM

Minor point, but what’s up with “text 2010 to GORNSC” at the end? Most text message campaigns follow the formula of “text [memorable word] to [short number].”

Leave it to the RNSC to get it backwards and keep it unmemorable.

WolkingsWorld.com on September 9, 2009 at 12:08 PM

gatorboy on September 9, 2009 at 12:06 PM

It is a trust issue. This ad clearly tells the viewer that they can not be trusted because they can’t even tell a straight story. Who would entrust them with healthcare if they can’t even get their story straight? It is a good ad because it appeals to the emotions, as well as the fact that they don’t even have a consensus. This is a RED FLAG ad.

On that note, Rasmussen has the generic Congressional vote at 44% R – 37% D. A new high for the Republicans.

If that translates to actual votes in November 2010, we take back the House. Michael Steele had better get busy recruiting some solid, articulate, conservative candidates for those “swing” districts now represented by freshman or sophomore Democrats…

catlady on September 9, 2009 at 1:41 PM

“The People” wanted change. The Democrats and Barackus Caesar promised them the change they wanted. Despite the warnings and foreboding the Democrats were given the reins anyway in a huge way. The Democrats, as expected and foretold, immediately began failing miserably and doing devastating damage to this country that affects each and every person in this country, and for the foreseeable future, which means even people not yet conceived are going to suffer for it and they’re not even born yet.

I still think it’s too soon to tell everyone ‘I told you so’, though. They still have over three and a quarter long years to suffer under the boot heels of the Barackus Caesar White House to figure it out for themselves. However, the devastating damage being done that continues unabated can be mitigated somewhat. If we can give the liberal Democrats the boot in 2010.

Hopefully, ‘the people’ can see that even now.

Ludicrous? Agreed. Inept? Agreed. Decent? I wouldn’t hire him to paint my house- the outside of my house. It has always struck me from the beginning how often Gibbs answers in the first person. Ex. Reporter: “What is the White House’s position on lack of support for a public option?” Gibbs: “I think a public option is an important…” I remember Tony Snow always framing his answers with “The President thinks…” That, to me is very telling. Gibbs seems to put himself on the same level as the president rather than him just being a paid mouthpiece. Maybe Obama should replace Gibbs with a more controlled & temperate personality… like… Rev. Wright.
