Video: DeMint challenges Obama to line-by-line review of ObamaCare

Jim DeMint gave Greta van Susteren a preview of Barack Obama’s speech tonight in front of the joint session of Congress, and a failing grade almost 24 hours in advance. Why? DeMint explains that Obama thinks he can fix everything with “just words,” but that Congress needs something a lot more substantial than just another sales pitch. DeMint’s tired of pitches, generalities, and ambiguities. It’s time to get down to specifics, which DeMint believes Obama cannot defend — and perhaps doesn’t even know (via The Right Scoop):
But I want to hear him defend his bill. I want him to open up the house bill that was passed and actually point to sections…and say it is in there, read it… I don’t want to hear any generalities, I don’t want to hear any more false promises… He needs to defend his plan and not just criticize those of us who are presenting alternatives.
Van Susteren mentions a promise Obama made to take Congress through the health-care reform bill line by line, and asks DeMint if he’d do that with Obama. DeMint says he’d gladly do it, but one has to wonder who would be the sherpa and who would be the novice in that arrangement. Will Obama speak in generalities tonight in order to make a sales pitch or just out of ignorance of the details?

During or at the conclusion of the speech, we need to light up the congressional switchboards. We should show that we are willing to listen before we condemn the speech. Actually, If the speech starts at 8 pm I believe the Most proper and polite thing to do would wait until about 8:01 pm before starting to call.

It is totally amazing to me the transformation that takes place in a politicians mind when they get to DC. They become instant know it alls and experts about whatever subject or committee they are assigned to. Never mind that they never worked in that field a day in their lives. Must be something in the water there.

I think it’s more like he’s like the spoiled brat who wasted too many brain cells and aspects of his soul on dope on the beach and later in classroom seats where no one ever so much as required him to be sober and sane.

The speech will be all emotion. The feedback from the returning Congress has been that the people are not angry, but rather afraid. They fear what this healthcare bill will bring. People can´t understand it all, therefore they are afraid.
“Calm their fears, Mr. President” has been the word back to Obama.
Obama`s speech will be full of warm fuzzy emotion to show people should not be afraid of the govt. health care program. At the same time Obama will show what they should really fear is the current healthy system – he will roll out the horror stories of how the current system failed so many. Some of these people will all be sitting with Michelle and her very toned upper arms.
Look for a tear to roll down Joe Biden`s and Nancy Pelosi`s eyes at some part during the speech (zoom in close up) – my bet is that it happend during the obligatory Ted Kennedy segment.
The MSM is already at work writing their praising reviews of the speech: “the best speech ever given by a President”, “he really cares about the American people”, “he has now given hope to so many people without health insurance”…ad nauseum.
And the bottom line being…”We have the votes to ram this through….”

I doubt he supports it, but Obama shouldn’t be allowed to pass off tort reform as a “concession to the right.” Since when is working against the financial interests of a small cadre of plaintiffs an ideal of the Democratic Party–let alone of Americans?
Tort reform is not good only for those on the right, it’s good for us all. And I have yet to hear a principled argument–hell, any argument–by a Dem opposing tort reform.
Insert it as something for the common good.
BuckeyeSam on September 9, 2009 at 10:08 AM
The left is in a panic . . . they know the majority of Americans despise their socialist healthcare manifesto but they are beholding to their parasitic constituents and are frantically searching for chewable bones to throw in their troughs. Be careful very Dems, you are about to tear the heart and soul out of this once great Republic and the aftermath won’t be pretty.

The worst thing that can happen is for some “bipartisan compromise bill” to win the day. The Democrats will have lost nothing politically if that happens, while the Republicans will be left as a demoralized unprincipled pile of dung.
I think we will soon learn why Obama and Judd Gregg decided Gregg would be more useful to Obama’s agenda in the senate and not in his cabinet.

I read an article about political gurus and policy advisers. It was very interesting. What I remember is how giving advice was described. The advice they give is determined by the individual they give it to, i.e. what they want to hear and what the advsor thought the politician could get away with. I’m sure Obama has political advisors that know an all out push for the public option that fails is going to sink his presidency. I’m sure he has advisors that know the economy is not going to recover in the next four years and the threat of inflation is all to real. I’m sure he has advisors that know another shot at “comprehensive immigration reform” in a recession is suicide. But the advice they give is limited to what Obama and his leadership want to hear. If Obama wants advice on how to pass the public option, no matter how fool hardy the advisor knows it to be, that is the advice that will be given. That has to be a surreal experience. Getting paid to give good advice but being in a position to give advice you know will lead to a failure, not because you are incompetent but because that is what the boss wants…

Time to buck up and show some leadership Barry. Welcome to your political dying ground. Tonight your back is on the wall and you have no where to go but down. You are fighting uphill. Fail, the left eats you. Succeed, the right eats you. You’ve fought yourself into this wet paper bag, now see if you can talk your way out of it. Jerk

Obama lies, and everyone knows it now.
Remember one thing, your congressional clunker values their position in the politburo of the walled city WDC more than anything else.
If the townhalls of August taught you nothing more, you could easily see how out of touch with the real world your congressional clunkers really are.

pcpower1 on September 9, 2009 at 11:03 AM
I must admit I’m rather ignorant on political processes. Perhaps someone could explain something to me.
If the ObamaCare bill(s) pass they won’t go into affect until 2013 (yeah, it’s real critical to pass it immediately, huh?). Well, let’s say in 2012 we get a Republican President and a Republican-controlled Congress and House (praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!), couldn’t this abomination just be deep-sixed?
This is a serious question and thanks in advance…

Dean made an excellent argument in defense of not including tort reform. It went something like this: Even though over 90% of us are lawyers, we’re too afraid of lawyers to do it.
Accidental hoesty in politics is at least good for a chuckle if nothing else.

DeMint to Obama: Please do my job for me.
DeMint is more than welcome to review the whole bill line by line; in fact, that’s why he gets paid. If he doesn’t like what’s in there, he can try to change it, or vote against.
What’s the problem here?
e-pirate on September 9, 2009 at 9:07 AM
The “problem” is that nobody knows with any certainty what is in the house and senate bills including you. Unlike you, we are not compliant, parasitic sheep looking for more free stuff from the government. Furthermore, we are not willing to give up our freedoms and liberties so that we can be
stroked and cuddledenslaved and strangled by the nanny government. If you truly do not know what the problem is then you don’t belong in this discussion.rplat on September 9, 2009 at 9:22 AM

Fuzzlenutter on September 9, 2009 at 11:04 AM
This would only happen if the republicans had what the democrats now enjoy, a filibuster-proof majority. Anything less and the dems can hold the line on repeal. This is why it has to be stopped right now, when the reps don’t have the votes to stop it. The odds of this happening, even by 2012, are south of slim.
