Video: Reverend Wright’s healing balm
posted at 10:12 am on September 8, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
For those who thought that the appointment of 9/11 Truther Van Jones was the nadir (so far) for this administration’s moderate, post-partisan credibility, keep in mind that this man could have been in charge of faith-based initiatives if not for Hillary Clinton’s oppo research team. Jeremiah Wright gives hope to Jones and other demagogues tossed under Barack Obama’s bus that the news media will still give them camera time as long as they continue to make the kind of outrageous statements that marginalized them in the first place. Here, Wright gives his nuanced view of the debate over health-care reform (via JWF):
I think the racists in the right wing are upset because poor people are about to be helped.
Right! Because America is, after all, such an uncharitable nation. Oh, wait — we’re the nation with the highest per-capita private donations to charity, doubling our closest competition. And since conservatives give more in time and money to charitable causes than liberals, that explanation doesn’t wash.
In fact, this Wright statement shows him once again to be either an idiot, a demagogue, or both. What does that say about the man who sat in Wright’s church for 20 years and listened to his idiocy without considering other options for worship?

Counting the days and weeks until Wright gives that 10,000+ foot house of his away to help “the poor” he wants us to believe he’s so protective of.
Though I may still be counting days and weeks by 2012, I realize.

I bet Wright thinks about “the poor” every second he’s down there in the Caribbean laying about in the sun with the drinks. He really does. Really.

Well, what he means by ‘poor people’ is people of color. And what he means by racists: white people. At least he’s coding his messages a little better. I’m wondering if Van Jones and Rev. Wright ever met.

I keep hearing this “racists in the right wing” smacktalk.
Can these people give us some names of these racists? Some examples of said people and how they are racists?
Highly doubtful.
What I see is racism from people like this J.Wright guy.
Sick and Twisted. Preacher of Hate. He’s an evil man.
bridgetown on September 8, 2009 at 10:29 AM
I don’t think there may be some racists on the right, but I don’t think this issue has much to do with race. I do, however, think Americans are getting screwed on health care, and virtually zero of the dozens of countries with UHC have descended into genuine socialism.
SpencerFan on September 8, 2009 at 10:29 AM
Well maybe not the instant he was revealed, but once the dust settled and everything was confirmed, yeah.
Count to 10 on September 8, 2009 at 10:29 AM
So, I guess according to Reverend Race Pimp, that white racists are upset that even poor white people may be helped, or perhaps that only non-white people are poor in this country.
I can’t tell which it is, then again they didn’t teach Angry Ebonics at the right wing school that us white racists attend.

Brotha Rev is back!! WOOP WOOP.
I wonder if wright is like one of those guys who always preaches to his kids how evil and racist the republicans are. I hope for poetic justice, one of his kids turns out to be a republican–a full-fledged birfer in fact.
It’s like the dad who hates gay people and his son grows up to be gay. Or the parent who hates black people and his daughter marries a black guy.
That would be sweet.

Krauthammer made a good point the other day on FNC.
He said that when you grow up surrounded by people who think like this, you would not think someone like Van Jones a radical. Obama actually thought Van Jones was a mainstream thinker because Obama’s main stream is so radical.

Akzed on September 8, 2009 at 10:46 AM
The bible makes the argument that there will “always” be poor people.
Rev. Wright should know that churches and charitable organizations do more to help the poor get back on their feet than the government ever will. The government has been helping the poor for decades. All it does is make more poor people with no incentive to participate in being an asset to their community. Leave the charitable donations alone, Washington, and let the private sector handle these problems.
They are much more effective and do so at much lower costs.

Well did anyone expect Obama to join the Catholic Church when he got to Chicago? I’m sure he looked into it and once he found out that they don’t look fondly upon killing babies he crossed them off his list.
So hard to find a Christian church that will let you butcher the defenseless these days. What’s up with that?
turfmann on September 8, 2009 at 10:52 AM
All that means is that the filthy liar is unfit for office since he has no understanding of the American people.
I also think that it is a pretty fair assessment to suggest that the filthy liar truly does not understand the nation. He is a mixed raced product born (supposedly) in Hawaii and raised in part in a Muslim nation, if not as a Muslim. He has no understanding of the American experience let alone the “black” experience. In his world, growing up around people that hate this nation, his constant apologies for the US are normal behavior.

There’s nothing reverend about race-monger Wright. His beliefs are not the true Christian beliefs.
docdave on September 8, 2009 at 10:55 AM
No countries with universal health care like Canada have descended into a system where more than 15% of the “universally covered” can’t find a family doctor because the disincentives to practice medicine or so great. The waiting times for diagnostic tests (e.g. MRI – 6-12 months, e.g. appointment with orthopedist – 6-18 months) and treatment (e.g. radiation for breast cancer – 3-6 months) are appalling, and the system is imploding because it is perpetually underfunded. Nothing to worry about there. And taxation rates in Canada are already far higher than they are in the US. Survival rates for cancers in Canada are far worse than in the US. Why do you think that is the case.
ProfessorMiao on September 8, 2009 at 10:56 AM
I’m not sure why Reverend Wright is such a black racist, obsessed with skin color and black theology. He’s almost as white as I am!
