Van Jones resigns

posted at 11:01 am on September 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

How I like to imagine Obama broke the news: “Let me be clear: Pack your sh*t.”

In a letter released just after midnight Saturday, Van Jones, President Obama’s Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the Council on Environmental Quality resigned.

“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me,” Jones wrote. “They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”

Jones said that he had “been inundated with calls – from across the political spectrum – urging me to “stay and fight. But I came here to fight for others, not for myself. I cannot in good conscience ask my colleagues to expend precious time and energy defending or explaining my past. We need all hands on deck, fighting for the future.”

In this case, the “vicious smear campaign” consisted of (a) accurately quoting Jones and (b) citing documents he signed. But no matter. He’s headed for left-wing martyrdom, Trutherism notwithstanding and replete with lies about how Beck supposedly attacked him only after the Color of Change boycott began (wrong) and how the Truther petition itself was credibly challenged by other signatories (wrong twice over). Howard Dean’s already pushing the latter point, in fact, and calls Jones’s resignation “a loss for the country,” which is fitting insofar as Dean-o himself was once a bit warmer to Truther theories than even some lefty commentators could bear.

Ed Driscoll’s got a worthy reaction round-up so I’ll send you there from here. Three meta-points to take away from this, though. One: We were told during the campaign that Wright and Ayers were non-issues because they wouldn’t be part of the administration, but has Wright, for instance, said anything vastly worse than Jones has? If he’s persona non grata on Team Barry, why wasn’t Van the man? Two: As noted by Driscoll and Mickey Kaus and doubtless dozens of others, so astonishing was the press blackout on this story that millions of people will wake up today, see the headline, and wonder, “Who the hell is Van Jones?” This isn’t as sexy a media-bias scandal as Rathergate or the silence on Edwards during the primary, but it’s significant. And three: To keep beating a dead horse, this never would have happened had Jones been forced to sit for a Senate confirmation because the White House never would have nominated him. They knew he was toxic and they knew Republicans would force the press to cover that fact at a hearing. That’s the whole point of having “czars” — to install people in positions of cabinet-level power without having to deal with the Senate’s pesky check-and-balance. It needs to change. Soon.

Obama’s background and associations were so little explored or noticed and were deliberately hidden by the MSM. He merely assumed that treatment would last forever. And the MSM obliged. With the economy still in the toilet and Obamacare in the news, more people are finally taking an interest in the radical associations. The MSM are still engaging in covering for Obama, but people are more willing to look elsewhere.

Everytime the MSM lets a Beck or a Limbaugh do all the work and publicize info that they can easily verify on the web, the MSM loses more credibility. And so does Obama.

All good.

Wow. I’m late to this party! Great job Beck, MM, and everyone who sent tips to every blogger they could find. And great job to all who called reps and the WH on this one. I think the best move next, although the toughest, would be for the GOP in the House and Senate to call for an immediate investigation into the backgrounds of all the czars. Use Van Jones as the example of what could happen when the proper function of “advise and consent” is circumvented for the extra-constitutional appointment of czars. The GOP can even frame it in a pro Obama fashion, that is to say, they just don’t want to see the president get embarrassed again, should there be another Van Jones type in his administration. The GOP needs to make a big stink about this. This is huge when you consider the tens of billions of dollars this nutcase had at his disposal. This is your time now GOP leaders. We the people, with the new media, have handed you the ball, now please run with it.

“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me,” Jones wrote. “They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”

Riddle me this:

I’m still scratching my head. Jones supporters would not support “greens” who also happen to be previous Nazi party members for all the obvious reasons. Like for instance, killing 6-8 million Jews.

(Democrat ex-KKK members aside)

But they gleefully support previously very active/avowed Marxist/communists, who in the past killed near 70 million and enslaved a billion more as the walking dead. When you join a movement you join its history. Who knows, perhaps Fidel and Chavez are some of Jones’s facebook friends.

Left, right or center, when are all the political neophytes going to realize there is virtually no difference between Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Castro, Che, Mussolini etc and all their “isms”. They were MASS MURDERS, what part of that don’t they get? They use their “ISMS” for converting useful idiots.

Van Jones is a useful idiot and Obama knew it. That’s the real scandal. Secondly, the reason Jones was thrown out, was the video of his touting global warming as a front for passing laws to dissemble capitalism. He voiced what so many have said since the Club of Rome started global cooling in the 70′s, that it was a front for world communism–getting control of the means of production.

This coincidentally is also the basic position of Obama’s Chicago friends, Rev Wright, Bill Ayers and James Cone to name a few, hiding behind the veneer of liberation theology.

Van Jones is not going away. I think we will be seeing reruns of the aforementioned video when Cap and Trade comes up.

patrick neid on September 6, 2009 at 11:18 AM

Van Jones hasn’t said anything that Obama and the Democrat Party have not already subscribed to.

Obama used a racist no better than Van Jones as his mentor for 20 years!

In survey after survey, the vast MAJORITY of the Democrat Party are convinced that Bush and Cheney caused 9/11.

Van Jones was hand-picked by Obama over the advice of the Secret Service because Van Jones is a Revered Black Hero of the Democrat Party. All the speeches that Glenn Beck has been talking about have been PUBLIC SPEECHES made in front of CHEERING DEMOCRATS.

That is why Van Jones is skulking out of the White House in the dead of night during a holiday weekend. If Obama would fire Van Jones, he’d have to fire everybody else in his administration, too, including HIMSELF.

If we look at some of the biggest problems this country faces, it’s clear many track back to democrat donors. We need to only support candidates that take on these interest groups. Let’s hit dems in the pocket books.

So who are we targeting? Unions, trial lawyers, the teachers union, and aparently pharmA.

1) Cut off all union subsidies. Buh Bye UAW.
2) Tort reform, and not just for healthcare.
3) School vouchers.
4) Opening the borders for prescription drugs, reform medicare part D.

Thanks to “Anti-Harkonnen Freedom Fighter” from Ace’s place, for reminding us about this:

Though over 7,000 jobs are expected to become available in President-elect Barack Obama’s Administration, applying for them is not for the faint of heart — or character. In order to compete for any of the positions, from U.S. coordinator for Afghanistan to staff assistant in the Department of Public Affairs, prospective Obamans need to fill out a grueling seven page questionnaire created by Obama’s transition team to ensure that all members of the next Administration have had their closets spring-cleaned of any skeletons well in advance.

The questionnaire leaves no stone unturned in its 63-part effort to excavate any personal or professional transgressions in a candidate’s past. Sample indiscretions run the gamut from criminal convictions and tax fraud to text messages or personal diary entries that could be a “possible source of embarrassment” to the President-elect if made public.

Other than that, he (according to AP, CNN, even FOX’s front page) was nothing more than a civil rights activist, and no mention at all of the communist stuff, Storm, even being arrested. Oh, and Beck hammered him after Color of Change went after his advertisers (according to them, not me, I know its BS).

NO NO NO, this should not be allowed to just be OVER. REpublicans and conservatives need to push Obama to ANSWER how and when he knew of Jones’ associations (in my opinion he knew EVERYTHING and agrees with Jones 99.9% of the time)? The dems are allowed to take over and twist the facts and repubs and conservatives just sit back and say, well, that is over, let’s move on. Do you think dems would move on from such a gift? There are STILL going after Bush administration people and we think we won this one? No we have not, not until the American people become aware of the full story. This is the exact problem with repubs and conservatives, give up too easily and too early and sometimes act a bit too high minded of their own good. With autocrats and liars like Obama’s ilk and the democrat party, we need to be a lot more clever and a lot more fiesty and fight back. I hope Glenn Beck does not stop on this issue and forces the repubs in COngress to start screaming and investigating, force investigations if have to.

They knew he was toxic and they knew Republicans would force the press to cover that fact at a hearing. That’s the whole point of having “czars” — to install people in positions of cabinet-level power without having to deal with the Senate’s pesky check-and-balance. It needs to change. Soon.

Are you prepared to begin to question The One’s motives and core values yet, AP? Do you or don’t you believe that he shares these extremist, Marxists views, which is why he’s spent his entire life surrounding himself with these types of radicals. And do remember, this has never been about one man. The media will play up the “he resigned, story’s over” angle, but that’s BS. Why was he there in the first place? What about all of the other radicals and their quotes? Does Jones sitting somewhere other than the White House mean they can’t call him on the phone? They obviously wanted him in the first place, and none of these recent “revelations” were a secret. Why should we believe they’re done with him now?

From another Van Jones thread earlier someone posted and I paraphrase:

Green Jobs Growth -1

Love it

So, per previous post, (darn ‘post comment’ button!)

If/since the President was AWARE of Comrade Jones’ positions, by appointing him to the czar job, does that mean he agrees with them?

I have also pleaded with Mark Levin via email to stop the pettiness with Beck. I love to listen to Levin, but he has to get over this because he is ruining his appeal.

And as to Allahpundit’s comment that Obama probably said pack your **it, I doubt that very much, you make Obama sound almost strong and good. It was probably more like: I am so sorry dear comrade and brother in arms, don’t worry, you are still one of my fighters, I just need to do this to assuage these dumb americans.
