Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on September 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
“‘As we’ve seen before, succumbing to these types of propaganda attacks from the right wing only emboldens the aggressors. This controversy will go away and they will trump up another one tomorrow,’ said David Brock, founder and chairman of Media Matters for America, a group that has taken on conservative commentators. ‘No good comes from appeasing a lunatic bully like Glenn Beck.’”

“If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the movies, it’s that ‘The United States of America does not negotiate with terrorists.’ Yet this White House is willing to let these psychological terrorists set the terms of the debate and negotiate from their insane positions…
I’m heartbroken over Van’s departure because it’s these little meaningless concessions that undermine people’s faith in the system. You get folks all riled up about change. You empower a man who embodies that change. And they you let him be run out of office by f*cking Glenn Beck? So Glenn Beck is running the White House now? Is that how it’s gonna be? Just tell me that I knocked on all those doors for nothing, and I can start the grieving process, but don’t pretend this will solve anything.
I can’t help but look at this spineless response and see it in contrast to the previous administration. You know how gangsta they are? DICK CHENEY IS STILL TALKING SMACK!”

Beats me. I’ve gotten tired of it. Very female and over-the-top. I think it was sort of like Family Guy. You could see the humor in the show on any other, but they tended to overreach and veer off into preachiness.

I watched that for a while last year. Or was it two years ago? Ah well, “brutal” is a good word for it. It took me a while to figure out what (aside from the high body count and the wall to wall gore) was bugging me about it. I finally came to the conclusion that anyone not in the band was little more than a water ballon filled with blood and the slightest puncture would cause them to explode with guts spraying in all directions.
Anyone who hasn’t seen it might think I’m kidding. I’m not.
“Murdering Outside the Box” from season one remains my favorite episode.

That recent face lift must have stretched Pelosi’s brain as well. What part of the easily provable allegations agains Van Jones are “vicious” and “unreasonable”?
1 That he hated Amwerica?
2 That he thought Bush and the US Government conspired with the hijackers to destroy the World Trade Center and damage the Pentagon-tqaking 3000 lives?
3 That he was (and possibly still is) a Communist?
4 That he is an ex -convict, imprisoned for aiding and abetting street rioting?
This guy was so damaging to Obama that he personally dragged Jones out into the street and shoved him under the bus!!!

This makes perfect sense. They need people to trust Democrats specifically, and the Government in general enough to convince people that the Government can run health care, carbon taxing, auto manufacturing, another trillion or two in new spending, and whatever else they want.
Removing a guy just because he has some crazy thoughts helps the other side. They need to keep their crazy people in positions of power to help increase trust in the Government… hmm.
If you wouldn’t trust a crazy conspiracy-spouting lunatic with control over what kind of car you can drive, or to double or triple your utilities, or to help decide your health care choices; who would you trust?
Oh… a sane person? Yeah, I guess I didn’t think of that option. But would you prefer a sane person, if that choice helped the opposition party, or would you keep the lunatic in a position of power?
We’re seeing some people here who would definitely keep the lunatic to avoid giving anything to the other side. Interesting that their party politics runs that strong, isn’t it?

Dang it Afrolip! I thought we were supposed to be calling you all “negros” again! (Or is that spelled “negroes”, in the plural? Crap, it was third grade or something, last time I had to spell it.) All these mixed messages make us honkys all confused. BTW, where did the terms “honky” and “cracker” come from, and why should I be offended by that?
C’mon, AfroLip – bring something meaningful to the conversation. We know you are an expert on race, so obviously, you can do it if you try hard enough.

In Central Florida, we called it Polk Salad as described. Hearts of Palm is from Palm trees — not the Palmetto Palm, though, in the area in which I lived. People in several swamp areas ate it often, called it Polk Salad, carved out the center of Palmettos.
Anyway, that’s what it was where I grew up, though thanks for the information/correction. People there in Central Florida called it Polk Salad, probably went back several generations when Polk County, center of CEntral Florida, was literally undeveloped swamp land and people lived on the “high areas” where the water wasn’t.
;)
Lourdes on September 7, 2009 at 3:00 AM
More (just explained, previous), people who ate what was called Polk Salad (by scooping out the center of a felled, split Palmetto Palm) didn’t regularly have access to any grocery stores, not least of which would be stocking “heart of palm”.
I’ve well enjoyed (later, other areas) Heart of Palm canned, bought in finer grocery stores but where I grew up in Central Florida was not one of those spots. The local “grocery store” had wooden floors and one of those old icecream/soda pop coolers that had to be filled regularly with ice cubes, from whence we kids would fish out a bottle or two. The butcher in the back held an open backdoor barbeque under the moss-draped live oaks where we’d be lucky to get a seat on a sack of flour or beans. And they sold just about everything everyone in town or near it wore, a lot of overhauls/overalls, boots, and there were big barrels o’ crackers by the front door…
That was “town” for years during my youth there. Most people had to make trips “to town” to get that and the rest of the time, they lived way out in various large land tracks where survival was by growing beef (I helped with several annual roundups) and/or citrus by the miles (in which groves I learned to drive a tractor).

Can’t make much sense of the (7) page comments, they’ve drifted off topic, then went to bed. If we’re doing t.v. shows, I especially like “Breaking Bad”, on AMC of all channels. Dare I say, “black comedy” at its best.
betsyz on September 7, 2009 at 3:06 AM
I’m also well familiar with the Poke Plant since cattle won’t eat it – in pastures where they’re left to roam, you can easily find Poke Plants sticking up while everthing else has been munched down by the cattle. In Central Florida, anyway, in my youth.
Lourdes on September 7, 2009 at 3:09 AM
I disagree. Sunstein is NOT a popular individual among the Left who are involved in computing (nor among the Right, either). The point being that most involved in computing and related fields think Sunstein is an outrageous idiot, and that includes many on the Left.
Lourdes on September 7, 2009 at 3:12 AM
Vince, you’re an idiot.
Lourdes on September 7, 2009 at 3:14 AM
WRONG, at least to anyone not among the Left. Sunstein fails any reasonable standard as to reasonable temperament and particularly as to acceptable judicial temperament.
It’s really difficult to even understand how ANYone would deem Sunstein anything BUT the irrational, exceptionally biased individual he is. And I refer to him as “biased” based upon his irrationality more than anything. BECAUSE he’s exceptionally irrational, he is then a didactic but successful lecturer, but it does not mean he’s a reasonable thinker, nor even wants to be one.

Buckaroo on September 7, 2009 at 3:45 AM
I just don’t know; can’t begin to guess, either. There is something really dark about Sunstein, but then, so is there about all of Obama’s Czars, not a one of them doesn’t fill some awful description of a bad messenger.
Sunstein, though, he is particularly fascist and seems to think it’s “fun”.
Lourdes on September 7, 2009 at 4:03 AM
@ Buckaroo: I put Sunstein and Holden (Science Czar) as also Rahm Emanuel’s brother (whathisname) in a little Crazy Boat all of their own. Those three make Van Jones look comedic by comparison of extremes and Van Jones is quite the extremist.

I was listening to Fox and Friends earlier and they had that liberal Ratner lady on there, her first name escapes me right now…and she was accusing the right of the being the thought police.
Listen to these people..they mainstreamed this nonsense for so long that they forgot how crazy their crap sounds to average Americans who actually have to pay the bills. Thought police my ass.
Meanwhile Charles Johnson over at LittleGreenfootballs, is taking on the Tea Party people and calling them all Trutheres..along with Judge Napalitono and God knows who else.
I don’t doubt that there are some Paulbots out there among the demonstrators, there are also Democrats, Independents, libertarians, Republicans…all sorts of people and none of them are Czars in the White House.

I woke up to grab my Labor Day issue of the Cincinnati Enquirer. I find that the AFL-CIO is having a big picnic at a second-rate amusement park in the area (Coney Island). Apparently, Obama is coming to Cincinnati to announce Ron Bloom as his “manufacturing policy czar.”
One consolation: so far, it’s a dreary, rainy morning, though I’m not sure about the forecast.
BuckeyeSam on September 7, 2009 at 7:44 AM
You can expect more resistance from Obama when Beck shines the light of day on Obama’s other Czars. Ir wasn’t the fact Jones is a commie or a racist that brought him down. It was the fact he’s a Truther. Once that fact came out Jones was finished.
Obama can abide commies and racists in the White House but he can’t abide Truthers. It’s not that he has a problem with Truthers per se. It’s just that if it’s okay for him to legitimize a Truther, then it’s okay for his political opponents to legitimize a so-called birther. (Most so-called birthers are Constitutionalists who’ve been maliciously maligned for not accepting, at face value, Obama’s assurances that he was born in Hawaii in the face of his refusal to produce his birth certificate.)
This is similar to the soldiers orders being revoked once he challenged Obama’s eligibility.

The fact that they readily recognize our power to bowl over these czars is gold in our hands. Let’s see who Beck and Limbaugh go after next and rally behind them. Lloyd?

Oldnuke on September 7, 2009 at 8:54 AM
I can tell you are a lib by this. You don’t get what freedom of speech means.
Let me ‘splain it for you Lucy.
1. It has to do with the government -they are not to be able to stop your freedom of speech.. you know.. put you in jail ect.
2. It doesn’t mean that you don’t face consequences for your use of your freedom: ie you get banned from what is essentially a PRIVATE enterprise. Or yelling “fire” in a theater etc.
3. Go talk to the DU underground and the KOS kids about what you are saying here. You see all you have to say in those web sites is “I am conservative” and they boot you. Hypocrisy is thine. I bet you are on the “shut Glenn Beck, Anne Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Rush limbaugh” committee.
