“Meet the Press” finds the big lesson in the Van Jones story: You can’t trust the Internet
posted at 6:24 pm on September 6, 2009 by Allahpundit
You have to see it to believe it. The singular lesson of the past week, after big media failed to uncover Jones’s Truther past and then actively suppressed it when it broke online, is that they can’t be trusted to chase stories that are inconvenient to The One — especially if doing so would burnish Glenn Beck’s credibility. And yet here they are, through two of their priestlier representatives, warning the public that only a fool would play in the “open sewer” that is the Internet, where lies and smears and video clips that the networks won’t show of Obama administration officials calling Republicans “assholes” flow insidiously onward. Plenty of viewers will believe them, too: Remember, for many, their first taste of the Van Jones story came this morning, and no sooner did they hear about it than a trusted figure like Tom Brokaw appeared to dismiss it as a smear campaign. You couldn’t script a more Orwellian ending. Friedman actually goes so far as to call this a cautionary tale about how everyone’s a potential target in the age of mass media. Hey, Tom? He’s a Truther in charge of $60 billion in taxpayer money. We’re not talking about some alderman here who got caught saying something off-color at the Dairy Queen. Quoth Jonah Goldberg: “What a tragedy that fewer people will support cop-killers and anti-American conspiracy groups because of poor Van Jones chilling effect on the culture.”
Oh, and speaking of whitewashes, the White House wants you to believe that they didn’t know about any of it.
A White House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter, said Sunday that Jones’s past was not studied as intensively as other advisers because of his relatively low rank.
Jones’s position, for example, did not require Senate confirmation. So he avoided the kind of vetting Cabinet officials were subjected to…
“He was not as thoroughly vetted as other administration officials,” the official said. “It’s fair to say there were unknowns.”
Valerie Jarrett seemed pretty excited about him, so presumably she had an inkling about his past. But even if they’re telling the truth and somehow the multiple-page questionnaire all administration officials are required to fill out wasn’t broad enough to catch, ahem, Trutherism, this is nothing less than a confession by the White House that its czars might very well be unsavory characters with skeletons in their closets. Why vet them if they don’t have to pass the Senate, right? And if you do vet them and conclude that they can’t pass the Senate — as almost certainly happened with Jones — then just make them a czar and the problem is solved. It’s not like Tom Brokaw or Tom Friedman is going to hassle you. Exit quotation from Glenn Beck: “The American people stood up and demanded answers. Instead of providing them, the Administration had Jones resign under cover of darkness.” Click the image to watch.

Correct again, but the secret service and FBI have a legal responsibility to “vet” the people who get near the President. So we know that they did. I’m curious what the President’s response to this information was. I’m sure it’s documented. Some enterprising reporter ought to try and find out. You know what we could use in this country? A media to report on the doings of the gov’t. Feel free to borrow my idea if anyone likes.

Over the years I found Friedman one of the lone voices of relative (and that’s a relative term!) sanity at the NY Fishwrap, but he started to jump the shark about 4 years ago.
I can still handle him in small doses, which is more than I can say about Krugs and Frankie B*tch and MoDo.

THE INTERNET….DOING THE JOB THE MEDIA WON’T DO.
These old geezers just long for the Cronkite days when they got to distort the news with no fear.
BTW,
If you look at MOST news articles on YAHOO or that get top billing on Google it’s almost always AP-Associated Press.
AP really runs the news in the United States. There used to be a UPI (United Press International) so at least the AP had competition. We really need to get into the AP and start having some influence with the lazy voter bloc.
QUICK: Top Three reasons the Internet is popular for news?
3. No watching the old news anchors tell us what to believe or what is important at their hallowed 30 min evening broadcasts.
2. No need to watch Olby or Christ Matthews.
1. The Truth.

Now,we see two of the top Lefty Foot-Soldier Journalists

presenting the TRUTH!
So,the Boycott of Glen Beck el backfired and blew up big

SCARED TO DEATH,and so they should be!!
I hope,every lefty politician,public figure,hack,political

Well I read an article they other day that essentially said that the only way the secret service would have let someone with Jones’s record into the White house was if they were directly ordered to do so by the President or Chief of staff. Which means that the Secret Service would have definitely made the President or Chief of staff aware of what they found out about Van Jones which means when the White house says it didn’t know, they are flat out lying.

The pants of the MSM are now fully pulled down. A trojan horse full of Marxists has been elected, with their assistance.
Project forward. If nothing dramatically changes, will the Marxist velvet-glove takeover go away by itself?
It’s time to really
hurtreward the MSM with significant declines in revenue. That means advertising.Go after the advertisers that support the propaganda machine, and boycott their products until the begin applying pressure to the MSM editorial PTB.
I tell you, nothing else is going to work. The propaganda machine has to be choked off. My suggestion is the only realistic way I see of doing it.
No better time, really, because everyone is in a mood spend no more than they must. When we connect the dots together for advertisers… your financial support for MSM that supports through editorial filtering the Demaviks, hence I abandon consideration of supporting your product… let’s see if the levers of capitalism still work, while we still have a chance.

THEY STILL DON’T GET IT.
“Intellectuals” like these progressives can be so dumb. They said in this clip that we just believe what someone told us? How insulting. We heard from Jones’ lips, watched him on video, familiarized ourselves with the organizations he oversees and read excerpts from his books. Nobody told ME what to think.
Hey Beltway Snobs! Your brains ARE NOT larger than the rest of America. You look like fools.

And they wouldn’t care where they received that info. We are not ignorant anymore assholes! We know that you are only “responsible” journalists when your guy is in power. Not going to work anymore. To be fair, Jones’ resignation was a midnight affair, after the story could have made it into Sunday’s papers. That was the whole purpose, to get it out of the way before the Sunday morning chat factory had a reason to go into great detail about why Jones was unfit for office. For what it is worth, the media coverage I saw today were all but laughing at the idea this was a “smear campaign” and pointed out that Jones is indeed a truther.

The problem is that they (the MSM Alphabet TV channels) are still the only game in town for many parts or rural America that will never be wired for cable or internet because it’s not cost effective. A lot of these people will never opt for other delivery methods (such as DirectTV for TV or HughesNet for internet) because of the cost.
The fact that the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections came down to a virtual tie shows how they influenced the results. Eespecially in 2004, when one of their own actually admitted that his profession’s going into the tank for Jeanne-Claude Kerri (D-Vietnam) would give him a 15% bump in the polls. He was right-despite being the biggest career hack in ages, the Boston Fog ended up coming within 200,000 votes of being elected pResident.

How many more “Watermelons” (green on the outside- red on the inside) are wrapped up in this administration?
Bicyea on September 6, 2009 at 8:41 PM
The mention of “Orwellian” is so very apt.
The comments by Brokaw and Friedman were obviously fine in the abstract. Just like the old proverb which variously expresses the following thought, “Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear.”
Heck, I even tell people to beware of the videos they see on CBS news, NBC news and ABC news andwhat they read on Wikipedia and snopes.com, and in the New York Times or the LA Times, even though those TV networks, websites and newspapers have some fine reports and articles.
So, Brokaw and Friedman are really telling everyone to be as cynical of what they see on the Internet as Brokaw and Friedman should be telling everyon to be as cynical of what they see on NBC news or read in the NY Times.
That being said, the information disclosed on the Internet and Fox News Channel about Van Jones seems to have been correct and in context, and neither Brokaw nor Friedman, in response to David Gregory’s question about Van Jones made any attempt to prove that that information was incorrect. Brokaw and Friedman instead attacked the messenger (i.e., Internet journalists, including ordinary folks who you and I would not presume to be liars as apparently Friedman does) rather than the message.
RadClown already pointed out (on September 6, 2009 at 6:46 p.m. (EDT)) (as has aikidoka on September 6, 2009 at 7:50 PM )that the information is correct, and others have asked whether David Gregory, Rudy Giuliani or the other guy there (sorry, I don’t know his name), mentioned that to Brokaw and Friedman.
Well, what is the answer? I didn’t see the full show. I only saw the video here.
So, for those of you who did see the whole show, did journalist Gregory or former prosecutor Giuliani ask Brokaw and Friedman what information about Van Jones did they they think was incorrect? Did anyone point out that Van Jones did sign what he signed and did say what he said?
P.S. I had lunch today with two liberals who get most, if not all of their news from the MSM. Neither had heard of the Van Jones saga until they were watching the TV shows this morning. To their credit, they both were shocked that such a character was ever hired by the administration.

The internet folks have done the job that Brokaw and Rose wouldn’t do. They just sat there telling each other they don’t know anything about Obama before the election. But instead of investigating they just cried with joy when he got elected. Now Brokaw and his ilk are covering for him and all the communists/radicalse in his administration. The MSM died some time ago. But they are still twitching.

The funny thing is that I am sure they could have found a story far more appropriate to support their contention that the internet is not filtered enough.

Brokaw, thanks for showing who you truly are.. a dignified sockpuppet for the MSM.
Friedman shows repeatedly how one of the DREAMIEST of jobs is to be a highly paid fool working on the op-ed pages of NYT.think abt it.. you NEED ZERO TALENT and can get away with the crappiest conventional wisdom out there..

Alt. headline:
Glenn Beck Beats the Tom-Toms!
Is that cobwebs I see inside their mouths when they speak?
Or dust?
Before the Internets you couldn’t randomly freeze and zoom in on their images.
Damned digitals!

You’d be surprised at how few people get their news from the networks anymore. Ignore what the nielson numbers say, and focus on how much money the networks are losing to see the real picture. They are literally whistling past the graveyard these days.

I don’t think it was the truther stuff at all, or not enough yet because the Democrats love the entire concept. I’ll bet there was more to the Jones story that hadn’t broken yet.
