Video: Beck and Horowitz on radicals in the White House

posted at 7:48 pm on September 4, 2009 by Allahpundit

Not a must-see, especially if you’ve already read the boss’s book, but he deserves a little extra free publicity to end a week where (a) he was proven only too right about Van Jones and (b) big media did everything it could to suppress that fact. When Barry O finally does pull the trap door on Jones, the press narrative will be that Beck went after him simply because of Color of Change’s boycott (which is untrue, since the boycott followed GB’s first attacks). But there’s an important civic wrinkle to this story. Jones may fade but the czar loophole will remain — or will it?

“In the wake of these recent revelations, the president should suspend any further appointments of so-called czars until Congress has an opportunity to examine the background and responsibilities of these individuals and to determine the constitutionality of such appointments,” said Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), Chairman of the House Republican Conference, who called on Jones to resign.

The czar-attacks have begun to catch fire far beyond the Beltway. In town hall meetings across the country this August, questioners slammed the administration’s advisers, claiming that they allowed the White House to wield unchecked power…

[T]he number of czars in the Obama administration, say historians, is unprecedented.

“There just seems to be a few more in the Obama administration,” said University of Vermont professor John Burke, an authority on presidential transitions. “And they are using them particularly as a vehicle for their early policy initiatives.”

Exit question: Why isn’t Pence’s argument a ubiquitous talking point from Republicans?

You get Glenn on the radio in SF?

Ah shucks, thomasaur straight.

Now that’s funny!

Respectfully disagree…I thought this Horowitz interview was a definite must see. I found it to be an exceptional summary of the roots and objectives of the modern radicals. And, Horowitz provided the most concise reasoning that I’ve seen -to date – (on “mainstream TV”) as to why it’s not out of bounds to use the words “Obama” and “commie” in the same sentence.

Bravo Glenn, to one hell of a week.

aquaviva on September 4, 2009 at 8:02 PM

I agree. David Horowitz has been doing a series on Saul Alinsky at Front Page Magazine at his blog and at NewsReal Blog. This is the last one. It has links to the previous ones in the series.

We do, for several years now. There are, in fact, two right leaning stations. We’re not all ipod wearing hipster vegan dumb-asses.

But we do import a lot of em.

EZnSF on September 4, 2009 at 9:35 PM

Mr. Horowitz wrote a fabulous book entitled “Hatey Whitey”. I highly recommend reading it to see how the civil rights movement got hijacked by the racist, black crowd.

frizzyb on September 4, 2009 at 9:36 PM

Not a must-see, especially if you’ve already read the boss’s book.

Huh? I think it was very much a must-see.

Was Michelle Malkin a red diaper baby and former radical who knows exactly how these vile Leftists think? She can and does follow the dots and makes all the right connections, but there’s no one like Horowitz and his resume’ as a former radical for impeccable credibility on this topic. I’ve followed Horowitz since Radical Son so there are no surprises for me, yet the interview was so well done I watched it twice.

Hmmm. Beck mentions meeting Van Jones at some Time 100 dinner. Perhaps their feud started at the dinner? I wonder.

terryannonline on September 4, 2009 at 8:38 PM

Don’t diminish the seriousness of the discussion or the topic by suggesting that Beck is engaged in a personal feud.

If you had any awareness of Beck prior to this time, you would be aware of his passion for American liberty and prosperity.

Likewise, David Horowitz has done masterful work exposing the Radical Left for years. Go over to http://www.frontpagemagazine.com and click on to his “Discover the Network” link. Your eyes will be opened.

I have to assume that you are very young and quite naive. Such ignorance can be cured with some guided education in embracing reality over utopian idealism.

Wait I thought Beck was talking about Jones before the boycott?

terryannonline on September 4, 2009 at 9:16 PM

He was. Beck struck first, CoC responded, and Beck administered a beatdown.

You can learn a ton through Horowitz’s DiscoverTheNetworks.org

The czars are unconstitutional. Their paychecks amount to theft from the U.S. Treasury.

But Eric is out of the office for awhile, chasing Bush ghosts.

platypus on September 4, 2009 at 9:55 PM

There is only one way for all of this to succeed and that’s for the press to continue to ignore it. The silence is deafening, on Van Jones. It would be one thing if the press actually did some research and thought that Jones was being railroaded and reported it as such. The fact that they refuse to do any research and report on it is more telling.

The fact that the media refuse to report on all the czars being appointed by Obama, purposely to avoid the confirmation process, is even more deafening. If this were George Bush, there wouldn’t have been a silent period from the moment they did some homework.

Right now, the Washington Post is in slaughter mode on a Republican candidate for Governor of Virginia. They still refuse to report on Obama and his minions yet are about to “macaca” another Republican in Virginia. I hope their readership, after this episode, goes to Democrats only, which can’t support their paper.

If it weren’t for Fox News and talk radio, the American public would know very little about this administration, or the people heading it.

bflat879 on September 4, 2009 at 9:57 PM

The Horowitz interview with Glenn was fantastic! I think that was the best interview David Horowitz has ever given and that’s saying something. This nation should be thanking people like Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin and David Horowitz for doing the job the state run media refuses to do. If you haven’t read Radical Son it’s a fascinating read. I also recommend another Horowitz book Unholy Alliance.

They will fail. Not only will Virginia get a GOP governor but so will New Jersey.

New Jersey. Can you believe it? Pigs are flying somewhere.

Again, never said it was a personal feud.

terryannonline on September 4, 2009 at 10:03 PM

A radical never spends five seconds on thinking what makes a society work.

Dead on. It’s not about refugees or civilians or soldiers of the earth or animals or children. It’s about power, power, POWER!

If you really want to know what the Left was like in the ’60s and ’70s, get Horowitz’s book Radical Son.

He was there; I was too. He f’in nails it.

warbaby on September 4, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Being an old guy I use to hate David and SDS in 60s. When he came back to the fold I found a great respect for him as I followed his change. Today, I consider him The Expert on this subject. He’s a trooper.

The left truly does vilify him–especially academia. His effort to keep watch on our universities serves us well.

Interview with Van Jones

I decided to go to Yale because Yale didn’t have any grades and was smaller than Harvard. I figured, once I enroll I’m guaranteed to graduate, so I can just go and be a radical hellraiser student, and they can’t do anything about it. Which is pretty much what happened.

Q: You were a radical.

Even as a student journalist, I was always pushing the envelope, challenging the administration. I had an underground newspaper on the campus that took over the official student newspaper. I also put out a statewide African American student newspaper.

I was a disgruntled student, always stirring up controversies. I had a friend who had worked for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights out in San Francisco, and I had a professor who thought it was a good idea [to go]. I took a semester off and came to the Bay Area. That happened to be spring semester, 1992, the spring the Rodney King uprising happened in Los Angeles.

I’ve watched Beck since he hit tv. Yeah, I’m one of those who’s confessed to finding his “style” hard to wade through, BUT, as things heat up I’m beginning to think his rush into the breach makes all other Fox Talking Heads look like News Busters Lite.

Gang-of-One on September 4, 2009 at 10:53 PM

Beck has got a pair!!!!! This is a must see & so is his tv show!!!!! I just heard FOX will NOT air the one’s speech, Looks like it will be a winning night for FOX…….

1luckydogg on September 4, 2009 at 11:23 PM

I watched this interview this evening. It was fascinating. Horowitz really understands the radical mind because he spent so many years in their company, and it is some pretty scary stuff. The bottom line is that Horowitz quit being a lefty radical because he realized they are absolutely nuts. He, like me, can’t believe that one of these lunatics is in the White House. Loved the George Soros part, too. Horowitz is a master at connecting the dots from one far-left radical to the next, and all the dots lead back to Soros and his billions. Can he literally purchase the destruction of the U.S.? We’ll see, I guess. That’s certainly what he’s using his money for.

Rational Thought on September 4, 2009 at 11:29 PM

This was one of the best interviews with Horowitz that I’ve seen.

Connie on September 4, 2009 at 8:25 PM

I agree. Horowitz does not do well in the scream game which is the latest fad in “interviews”. He operates best in the 60 min type format, with quiet questions and lots of time to answer, as though he were discussing a concept with a student in his office. Glen Beck brilliantly saw this, toned down his style and matched the interview to him. Perfect. I learned more in those 8 min than in weeks of others “hinting” that Obama was a “radical”. By the way, that picture of Alinsky! Whew, that mother was one ugly SOB.

BREAKING NEWS (Behind the Scenes as we tap into Obamas’ Blackberry).

Barry: “Yeah, I got it, no one goes, got it”

Barry: “Yes sir offshore drilling deal for Petrobas, got it”

Barry: “And yeah, keep pushing on the Healthcare deal”

Barry: “Anything else George?”

George: “No, you can go to bed now Barry. I’ll call you tomorrow”.

Barry: “Thanks George”

There you have it. Jones is safe for the weekend.

PappyD61 on September 5, 2009 at 1:00 AM

…People are gonna pop. And the hard left is going to fight tooth and nail for every advance they’ve made in the last couple several years. This is troubling times indeed.
EZnSF on September 4, 2009 at 9:22PM

.
If this results in a boilover, bloodshed, riots, all-out war- it will be better than living in fear of our own government. That alternative is much more frightening. Conservative Americans come from strong stock. Turn on the news and it is evident that country won’t settle for the “sit down & shut up” treatment. If the pot has to boil over, so be it. Liberty or death. The dream that is America won’t go down without a fight.

NightmareOnKStreet on September 5, 2009 at 1:20 AM

Horowitz’s book “Radical Son” is an excellent read, especially for anyone who is interested in the extent to which the left has screwed black America. He also exposes some pretty devastating stuff about the ways in which the left were actively responsible for encouraging the spread of AIDS in San Francisco in the early 80′s.

The chapters on the Black Panthers are what makes the book though. It’s just incredible what those bastards did and got away with. It’s also disgraceful how they were financed and taught by white leftists and how the left STILL sees them as a legitimate group even today.

Sharke on September 5, 2009 at 1:20 AM

Having said that, I don’t see eye to eye with Horowitz on some issues. His strengths are anticommunism, anti Islamofascism and pro national defense. I’ve disagreed with him a lot on economics and he will relentlessly push the flawed theory that deregulation was ultimately responsible for the economic crash. We once also had a little to-and-fro by email on the subject of Obama’s birth certificate, in which I took the view that although I’m not a birther, I would hope he would be taken out of office if he were discovered not to be a citizen – while Horowitz took the view that the requirement for President to be a legal citizen was not important. We had quite the exchange for a while, very civilized and in the end we agreed to disagree – but his stance on the issue disgruntled quite a few of his regular blog readers.

Sharke on September 5, 2009 at 1:38 AM

Wow! David has been fighting this fight for 40 YEARS!!!
At least it is now taking hold.

When he points to Lenin and Marx, all the lefties seem to say “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”

shorebird on September 5, 2009 at 2:40 AM

I don’t think Obama is smart enough to think up all of his innovations on his own. An important question that seems to go unasked is, “Who is the mastermind behind all of Obama’s sh1t?”

Kralizec on September 5, 2009 at 2:52 AM

Outstanding interview by Glenn Beck of David Horowtz.

David Horowitz is one of the most discerning political analysts out there because of his past and his rejection of the Left. I recommend reading his books Radical Son, Left Illusions, Shadow Party, Unholy Alliance, Party of Defeat, Hating Whitey, Art of Political War, Destructive Generation.

Phil Byler on September 5, 2009 at 9:23 AM

Horowitz is pretty low key, but he’s way ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding the American left. I don’t know anyone who understands it better. So I was delighted to see that Beck is using him.

Bravo, Glenn. Keep on team building. That was one helluva week.

MM + Rush + Beck + Horowitz = Overwhelming Force

I refer to Horowitz’ site, Discover the Networks almost daily. It’s an exhaustive compendium of left wing individuals and groups. Additionally, it has a very useful interactive MAPS feature which illustrates how each entry is connected to the overall network.

IMO David is waaay under-appreciated. I suppose back in the 80′s and 90′s, folks thought he was “crazy” for saying all those “crazy” things about the left. But now we’re starting to understand how correct he was.

Discover the Networks is a valuable resource. The Van Jones info is up now, and well done, as always.

Beck did an excellent job in this interview by playing to Horowitz’s strength, reducing the analysis to its simplest terms, clearly and concisely.

Well worth the post, Allah.

Agree

Horowitz is a great guy providing a valuable service.

Horowitz is the modern Cassandra. What he documents is so difficult to accept he has a hard time getting a hearing.

I criticize FOX a lot, but it has been FOX that provided opportunity for the public to know the likes of Horowitz, Malkin, Hannity, Beck etc, as well as a permanent watering hole for RINOs

I noticed in Beck’s specials, when he highlights a quality guest like Horowitz, he allows the guest to expound in detail enhancing the message. Beck is a very effective presenter

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

This one hit me like a sledgehammer. I know EXACTLY the kind of crap she means. Every single city in America and Europe is full of it, especially in municipal parks and the plazas of government buildings. Ugly, shapeless hunks of metal fused together in disjointed ways – no meaning, no message, no inspiration, just artistic nihilism. Thousands upon thousands of these pieces of “art” were commissioned by local governments across the West during the 60′s. My own home city of Newcastle in England is full of them. I see them here in New York. I see them everywhere. It’s an explicit attempt at the death of heroism in art.

Exit question: Why isn’t Pence’s argument a ubiquitous talking point from Republicans?

Right on Bro! That is The Question.

I think the answer is obvious. For the most part they don’t give a damn whether America is free or enslaved, socialist or capitalist. They do see how even “conservatives, like you AllahP, bad mouth Glenn as a borderline lunatic. They know they can’t stand withering attacks like Sarah P has had to take. They’re mostly gutless, amoral pigs. They can only play their usual pathetic script unless the public leads them someplace new. For some it’s come to that but except for staunch guys like Imhofe, Pence and Coburn most of these weasels will be laying low.

That’s why Sarah is our only conservative political leader. Even Mitt and Huckabee are holding back not wanting to move too soon. They care more about their prospects in 2012 than about stopping the destructive legislation on today’s calendar.

Congress has to authorize appointment, as it did the “Drug Czar”, to the President, of a specific officer, otherwise, Czars violate the Constitution.
