More Van Jones: A Reverend Wright moment?

posted at 10:12 am on September 4, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Thanks to the work done by Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit, an army of Davids has begun scouring the Internet to find more about Barack Obama adviser Van Jones and his bent towards 9/11 Trutherism.  Hot Air reader Geoff A digs out this nugget from 2002 at the first anniversary of 9/11 in San Francisco, when Jones appeared at the Embarcadero for a protest.  Here’s the description, which sounds familiar to anyone who followed the Obama presidential campaign (emphases mine):

# Wednesday, Sept. 11, 5:30 AM – 7:30 PM
ALL-DAY SEPT. 11 PEACE GATHERING
Justin Herman Plaza, Embarcadero at Market Street
Join us in commemorating the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, and envisioning a
world free of war and violence with a full day of art, culture, spirit,
politics, and words of hope. 5:30 AM Buddhist Peace Service
12 Noon Break Bread for Peace Lunch Program
5:30 PM Concert w/Holly Near, Michael Franti, Ram Dass and others
peace [at] globalexchange.org http://www.unitedforpeace.org
5:30 AM Buddhist Peace Service Led by the San Francisco Zen Center
(impact time at the World Trade Center)
12 Noon -1:00 PM Break Bread Lunch Program Music and words of
truth from diverse communities that have experienced violence
1-3pm United My Ass! http://www.truth-now.com
If terrorism is a form of warfare, and war terrorizes, then what
exactly is a war on terror? got freedom? God ‘Less America
5:30 PM Peace Gathering & Concert
Performers and presenters include:
Michael Franti, Holly Near, Ram Dass
Van Jones, Medea Benjamin, Dance Brigade
Sat Santokh Khalsa, Guru Singh, Rabbi Michael Lerner
Goapele, New Soul Singers, and others!

“God ‘Less America”? Sounds a little like this, doesn’t it?

Note, too, the URL on the event: truth-now.com is now something apolitical, but using the Wayback machine, one sees the incoherent political manifesto that was posted there.

Who were the presenters besides Jones?

Perhaps Jones can argue that he was invited to provide ideological balance to the proceedings, but that seems as unlikely as his statement that he didn’t read the 9/11 Truth petition before signing it.  He has been deeply immersed in the paranoid-conspiracy movement for years.

Update: Jones also worked on an anti-war underground magazine, although it doesn’t appear to have partaken in the 9/11 truth kool-aid.  It’s really just standard anti-war prattle, and it doesn’t appear to have survived for long.

Update II: Jake Tapper keeps asking questions.

This entire administration has become a joke — a very bad joke, but a joke nonetheless. Sadly we are all the butt of this joke.

FOX News’ Glenn Beck is doing an extraordinary job this week walking America behind the scenes of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and outlining who is actually running the White House.

I saw that and Beck definitely got a bump in his ratings that day. But she has gone too quiet now. She should be headed to D.C. for the 12th. She should be speaking out about all this anti-American sentiment percolating within the walls of the White House. And, she should be all over this health care BS being Rhammed down our throats.

From a political perspective, these are missed opportunities for her to set herself apart.

No wonder Obama and the FCC want to get control the airwaves–Beck, bloggers, and informed, curious citizens are searching for facts and exposing everything. I’m very thankful for the people who are fighting against this takeover of our country and blatant Marxist shift.
Somehow, I don’t think Hillary would’ve been as bad as Marxist Obama.

After Beck taking it to Jones like he has, I think Obama will seriously step up his efforts to shut down Fox News and conservative talk radio. They are the only thing standing between him and his radical agenda. He’s going to go hard after them, and his corrupt little attorney general will be helping him every step of the way. Just wait for it.

“They’ve taken hip-hop where it’s never been before. They’ve taken hip-hop ciphers to the evening news,” boasts Van Jones, executive director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in San Francisco, one of the principals of Third Eye. Mixed with hip-hop’s aggressive attitude, the political message can get “scary,” he says. “You won’t find it in a traditional civics-class curriculum: We’re willing to take issues into our hands if the system won’t work. As scary as people thought gangsta rap was, it’s nothing compared to young people using hip-hop to express what they’re going through and targeting the people who are really responsible.

Jones says he founded the Ella Baker Center–named to honor the soul mother of SNCC–in response to the failures of the civil rights establishment, which had become “too tame and too tired.” “I don’t believe the true power of the people can be confined to a ballot box,” he says, but must express itself in strikes, boycotts, pickets, civil disobedience. “We need to be about the whup-ass. Somebody’s f*cking up somewhere. They have names and job descriptions. You have to be creative about how you engage the enemy, because if you do it on his terms, the outcome is already known.”

Oh and as a bonus the above can be found in a book:

rob verdi on September 4, 2009 at 10:22 AM

That’s why it’s vitally important that those highest levels be exposed before the American Public.

Imagine if the radical left turns on Obama and rejects health care reform completely because there’s no public option and the bill is defeated. What do you think will immediately happen to the markets? They’ll definitely go up.

If this continues and the marxists are weakened and their ability to inflict damage blunted, we will be able to start digging our way out of this mess. If they’re allowed to keep piling on programs we can’t pay for, we’re toast.

The dems have indentured us to China and very soon will be draining as much cash as possible from us in the form of massive tax increases. That’s the plan. Subjugation.

Go Glenn Beck, Jake Tapper, and the blogosphere. Expose every single person with which Obama has surrounded himself.

Another Van Jones quote, discussing prisons in the magazine Tikkun (an old fave of the Clintons) in 2006:

The powerful are trafficking in human flesh today. They’re trafficking in human bodies. The correctional corporations of America are traded on the stock exchange, turning the Dow Jones into a high tech slave auction in American today.

Got that? The Dow Jones is a high tech slave auction. Sounds like something Rev. Wright might say…

I don’t advocate overexposure. That can be as damaging as a complete disappearing act. She needs to pick her spots and make each meaningful over the next few months. I would like to see her take a natural lead in the tea party movement that is taking place. She doesn’t have to make it partisan. Just emphasize the things most Americans still believe in and hope to see returned with future leadership.

It could potentially be a win, win situation for her. Whatever she does, she can’t stay hidden in a cabin writing a book for too long. Her appeal has to do with the way she connects with people on the ground. That can’t be taught and she has that natural ability.

CASS SUNSTEIN:
Wrote a book titled:
“The second Bill of rights: FDR’s Unfinished revolution and Why we Need it More Than Ever”

Excerpt:

“The simplest problem with laissez-faire is not that it is unjust or harmful to to poor people, but that it is hopelessly inadequate description of a system of liberty, including free markets. Markets and wealth depend on government.”

This book espouses the belief that a new bill of rights is needed to guarantee decent work and health care as a right provided or enforced by the government. (can you say union power, as in unions and government usurping individual liberties?)

Absolutely no doubt about that. And even when one of them gets tossed under the bus (for political expediency of course), they never rat on the rest of the pack because everybody is holding dirt on everybody else. That’s how all works on the Left.

You HAVE to be dirty to even be a member of the team or they don’t want you anywhere near them. That’s how they get them all to tow the party line and keep everybody in line. Essentially, it’s one huge ongoing conspiracy.
