Krauthammer: Van Jones Truther allegations “devastating”
posted at 8:48 am on September 4, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
What did the White House know about Van Jones’ Trutherism and when did they know it? Charles Krauthammer asks this question and calls the revelation about the Green Jobs Czar “devastating,” much more so than an epithet directed at Republicans that most of us have used at a wide range of people. Does Barack Obama believe that it’s acceptable to have paranoid conspiracists in high-level appointments, or was the White House simply too incompetent to properly research Jones in the vetting process? Because it comes down to those two options, and regardless of what we think of Jones, the blame for him being in the White House falls squarely on Obama (via RedState)
Meanwhile, Jim Hoft, who broke the story originally, finds evidence that this was not just a mistake in not reading the petition, as Jones tried to spin it yesterday. Jones also took part in a rally in 2002 that included some of the Truther conspiracy theories. He’s got screen caps of the rally information and Jones’ endorsement (#6 on the list), but here’s the heart of their protest (emphases mine):
Who created, trained and funded the Al Qaeda Network? What is the relationship between Bin Laden, his family and the Bush family and the Carlyle Group? Why were no fighter planes dispatched to intercept the four hijacked planes on September 11h , in violation of standard procedures? Who actually was in control of the “hijacked planes”? What is the U.S. relationship with Pakistan, and especially with its intelligence service, the ISI? Why did the then director of the ISI have $100,000 transferred to the man whom the FBI now calls the ringleader of the Sept. 11th attacks, and why does the U.S. not pursue this question? Did the CIA have foreknowledge of the attack, who tried to profit with put options on American, United, Merrill Lynch stock just before the attack? Why were the FBI told to not investigate the Bin Laden family links in the US? If the CIA met with Bin Laden last July, why didn’t they try to arrest him? If the US is serious about ridding the world of terrorism, why do we continue to fund and train terrorists? Why are we bombing Afghanistan, when none of the alleged bombers actually came from there, could there be another reason for our presence in that region, like oil? Is the war against Afghanistan illegal? What are Bush’s, Cheney’s and Rice’s connections to the oil industry? What are Bush’s and Cheney’s connections to the drug industry? Why is the evidence being destroyed when an investigation of the World Trade Center collapse is needed? Why seal Presidential records? Why intimidate professors from speaking out against this war? Why has the U.S. military been establishing working relations with the Uzbek military for several years? What other military involvement does the U.S. have in the Central Asian Republics? Why are U.S. military personnel or material assistance going to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Colombia as well? What relationship did various U.S. agencies and their contractors have with the Taliban, either directly or through Pakistani or Saudi agencies or contractors? Why does the U.S. overlook Pakistani drug lords who refine and export half to two-thirds of the world,s heroin despite its avowed determination to rid the world of drugs? Why has the Dept. of Justice stopped its investigation of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International despite its admitted heavy involvement in laundering drug money?
This may not have been an explicitly Truther event, but the kernels of paranoid conspiracy can certainly be found — and were certainly endorsed by Jones.
Van Jones has to go, and for more than just the reason that paranoid conspiracists of this type don’t belong in the White House, and certainly not as a “czar” of anything. Barack Obama will start trying to push the idea that he’s a moderate in order to rescue health-care reform, and reportedly he’s even willing to battle the left wing of the party to do it. No one will buy the idea that Obama is a moderate while he’s employing a man who thinks that George Bush murdered 3,000 people so he could grab oil and poppies from Central Asia. The man who knowingly employs a nutcase as one of his close advisers will look much more like a nutcase than a moderate.
Expect Jones to suddenly discover a desire to spend more time with his family, and soon. I’d guess Jones will be gone no later than Monday, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his resignation get announced in a “Friday afternoon document dump.”

They have ever reason in the world to be confident of the media’s treatment. In the end they will be one of their biggest liabilities. It would be an interesting drama to watch unfold if the damage to the nation can be kept to a minimum. I wish I could by you and your girlfriend dinner while you are away. I will when you get back to NC.

Van Jones will go nowhere. It doesn’t matter that Fox News and Hot Air are outraged. These people run the show now. One-third to half of all Americans see nothing wrong with communist and truther in the White House. Unless other media pick this up, nothing will happen.
Note that Pelosi is still there and the CIA is being prosecuted. Welcome to the new America.

Oh please, Ed. Do you honestly think this guy wasn’t vetted by the WH? Barry knows exactly who and what Van Jones is. For God’s sake, he’s known the guy for years. While Obama may not be a Truther he is a Marxist and was more than willing to overlook that little detail in his buddy’s past because they are of like minds when it comes to their ideologies. Quit being so naive.

Not to be forgotten but the whole “truther” movement got kick started with Hillary’s famous day after stunt on the Senate floor, while holding up the horrific front page photo, asking Bush, “what did he know and when did he know it.”
More sinister than Jones truther stupidity was the earlier posted video of him unmasking the true goals of the global warming/green movement. That’s why he is at the White House.
patrick neid on September 4, 2009 at 9:33 AM
Fair criticism perhaps. But he does work for a TV network–by definition behind the news. Also, he’s an analyst, so it takes some time to reflect, and state your case cogently. Beck is very quick on his feet, hyper, and has the gift of gab. He can always be upfront, first in line. We need all of our soldiers, all ranks, all capacities. No friendly fire accidents.

Gee, I wonder what else Van Jones has put his signature to….oh, I don’t know, say, for example, an anti-police day of action initiated by a Maoist communist cult group, the Revolutionary Communist Party, in 2006.

Another strategy to bring these czars down: Leave connecting these radicals to Obama until later, and uncover the connections of one czar to another now. The connections are there. Jarrett and Jones is a starter. Beck’s probably half way finished doing this already. Once you get three or four to resign, then the tie to Obama is child’s play.
BTW, I’m with Ed and placing my bet on a Jones resignation this afternoon.
DrStock on September 4, 2009 at 9:35 AM
True…Perhaps we have WAY MORE than enough commentators letting us know how intelligent they are giving their opinions days after we hear the news. We need MORE people digging up FACTS.
Jeff from WI on September 4, 2009 at 9:36 AM
That’s right. This is about circumventing vetting.
And in Jones’s case, they screwed up.
misslizzi on September 4, 2009 at 9:36 AM
Ed’s avenue of attack is professional. It says that the Obama WH is not living up to the traditional standards of professionalism and expertise that civilized societies require. I’m sure Ed knows Obama is a lying sleezeball and that we’re in big trouble, but there are many ways to attack this problem.
JiangxiDad on September 4, 2009 at 9:37 AM
On the local level there is always a tight circle of friends and acquaintances playing the political game. Outsiders don’t just walk into that world. I’m sure that is true on a national level as well. Obama down had to know all about Jones, so his appointment sure raises a lot of questions. Did they just think he would go unnoticed? Or do they really think they have some mandate that this guy’s ideology is well suited for? Hmmmmmmmm
joedoe on September 4, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Exactly right. This man is surrounded by radicals who wish to change this country’s core principles. Most of us here knew that prior to the election. I pray that the little light being shined on these people will eventually become a full fledged sun storm.
Is it too late? Time will tell. If Jones is removed or does resign I don’t think Obama will pick someone with different views just sanitize their backgroung before announcing it.
HoustonRight on September 4, 2009 at 9:37 AM
unseen on September 4, 2009 at 9:18 AM
Yes. So it is, interesting.
Consider further, what political campaign does not organize via a “conspiracy” of sorts?
The word has not lost its venom.
“Conspiracy” is tossed out by criminals as “ridiculous”, a fall back blanket meant to simultaneously cover and suffocate research that would expose crime.
Those who ridicule “conspiracy” within Obama’s administration, as if it is impossible for Obama to conspire against the Constitution in favor of Marxism usurping authority, as if those who see it are deranged, well deserve scrutiny before joining in on their bandwagon of Obama’s apologists.
All parables relay the moral of the story, when dishonest and deceitful in small matters, the same with large matters. So far as imagery goes, America has its Portrait of Dorian Grey with the Joker poster, created innocently enough by one of his own.
maverick muse on September 4, 2009 at 9:38 AM
1) If you want to create your own “Reichstag fire” event (and sorry to go to a Nazi analogy), it helps to have some paranoid conspircacists on board
2) Poor vetting? I’m sorry, but there is a reason Dear Leader has so many czars/special advisers who have not gone through normal Senate confirmation hearings: as compliant as the Senate may be, these czars would not pass. They have too much dirty laundry & skeletons in their closets.
rbj on September 4, 2009 at 9:39 AM
Good point. How far have we fallen when the highest presidential advisors tout a political philosophy antithetical to individual liberty, and this gets a collective *yawn* from the MSM . . . With the amount of nails needed for this guy’s coffin, the next czar will have to be a serial baby-killer that believes in alien abduction or something.

What is the U.S. relationship with Pakistan, and especially with its intelligence service, the ISI? Why did the then director of the ISI have $100,000 transferred to the man whom the FBI now calls the ringleader of the Sept. 11th attacks, and why does the U.S. not pursue this question?
A horrible patron-client state relationship that has gone terribly wrong, where the dog bit its own master and has gotten away with it for the most part.
btw, if the Director of the ISI transferred money to Mohammed Atta, i would nt be surprised at all. In fact this is no parnoia – the Paki ISI is a terrorist organization masquerading as an intel service.
This is the same organization that gave this world Hamid Gul who now openly supports Bin Laden.

Exactly. Jones’s “psychotic paranoia” and “malignant kind of politics” and his “pathetic intellectual anachronism” in remaining a communist, as Krauthammer so aptly says, could also precisely describe Barack Obama. They are of like minds. None of these “revelations” about Jones would have concerned Obama. They wouldn’t even have been a blip on his political radar. To Obama, these are reasonable views shared by virtually everyone he knows. These people — Obama included — are blindly radicalized, but they are so bigoted, intolerant, and insular that no one they know has ever challenged their lunacy, so they believe their views are mainstream until something like this happens.

Pakistan has some serious issues with their intelligence service, however the claim that they gave $100,000 to Mohammed Attah is FALSE. This claim was made by India’s intelligence service, who were trying to tie Pakistan’s governmemt to Al Qaeda. India is not what I would call an unbiased source when it comes to Pakistan. Regardless, the claim was investigated and found to be untrue.

About Valerie Jarrett
Indeed, Vernon Jarrett’s legacy is far from forgotten. Much of it lives on in the work of his daughter-in-law Valerie Jarrett.
Another former Harold Washington staffer, Valerie Jarrett is a close friend of both Barack and Michelle Obama.
Jarrett met Barack Obama when she hired Michelle to work with her in Mayor Daley’s City Hall. Valerie Jarrett ran the finances for Obama’s 2004 Senate bid and served as treasurer of Obama’s HOPEFUND.
According to Take Political Action May 24th 2008;
“She’s always been the other side of Barack’s brain.” That’s how an Obama insider described Valerie Jarrett as an Obama campaign aide announced Thursday night the former CTA chief and current Habitat Co. CEO is taking on a larger role to help her close friend win his White House bid.
The development comes as Jarrett, a charter member of Sen. Barack Obama’s kitchen cabinet, has been formalizing her portfolio and stepping up the pace within the past few weeks as a top advisor within the campaign.
Though she will be part-time, Jarrett will be one of the most visible and powerful African-Americans in the top rungs of the Obama operation…
Valerie Jarrett has been tipped for a top post in an Obama administration.

TN Mom on September 4, 2009 at 10:27 AM
Depending on when in 2002 that Van Jones made this statement, “last July” could mean either July 2001 or July 2002. Does Jones actually believe that the CIA met with Bin Laden prior to 9/11 and didn’t arrest him? Bin Laden had been known as a terrorist since 1996, when Sudan offered to have him arrested, but President Clinton passed up the opportunity and let Bin Laden be deported to Afghanistan. The CIA would never get another chance.
Maybe because Uzbeks supported the Northern Alliance, the only credible opposition to the Taliban in Afghanistan prior to 9/11.
Well, maybe because terrorists were plotting against the Filipino government (an ally of the United States), and the military wanted to defend the allied government of Columbia AGAINST the drug lords in that country!
Well, maybe because the U.S. wanted friendly relations with the government of nuclear-armed Pakistan, and the Pakistani government had no control over the western tribal areas where the drug-lords operate (it still doesn’t)!
Van Jones either has no idea of how the world works and who is allied with whom for or against terrorism, for or against the drug trade, for or against dictatorship, or he is deliberately trying to mislead the gullible, such as his attempt to blame “white” polluters of deliberately sending poisons to “black” neighborhoods.
Earth to Van Jones: Air pollution flows downwind, and water pollution flows downhill, regardless of the skin color of the people who live there. He doesn’t deserve to be czar of anything outside of Russia, if Putin will have him.

Obama, the Mortal
By Charles Krauthammer

What happened to President Obama? His wax wings having melted, he is the man who fell to earth. What happened to bring his popularity down further than that of any new president in polling history save Gerald Ford (post-Nixon pardon)?

By antagonizing Fox News, Obama is only driving more people to watch Fox News, to see what all the fuss is about. During the 2008 campaign, only Sean Hannity on Fox was exposing Obama’s ties to the radical left, while other Fox reporters gave Obama the benefit of the doubt. In recent months, not only Glen Beck, but also Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren (who used to focus on court cases) have been digging up lots of dirt about Obama’s true intentions, and Van Susteren has been doing many recent interviews with Rush Limbaugh. Obama’s antagonism against Fox News will probably backfire big-time.
Fox News has penetrated into Obama’s henhouse, and in the words of Obama’s spiritual guide, his chickens have come home to roost.

Christians are often silly? And atheists are the cream of the crop when it comes to decorum and logic, right?
Wow, I guess Newton, Linnaeus, Mendel, Polkinghorne, Platinga, D’Souza, and William Craig are pretty silly men, huh?

Well, if Bush caused or allowed for 9/11, then surely the Dems egged him on. Nothing happens in DC without Dem fingers somewhere in the mix and everybody knows it.
So what does Van Jones truly know about the conspiracy he believes in?
Liam on September 4, 2009 at 10:46 AM
Obama keeps Jones around because he says what Obama believes but can’t say.

Van Jones will offer his resignation, citing the ‘unfortunate distraction from the important work of the Obama administration.’

How many times can Obama offer the “gee I didn’t know” excuse?

Beck has put 0bama in an untenable position.
If 0bama keeps Jones, Beck and the rest of the conservative media can keep hammering on him. The downside to that is a hit to 0bama’s poll numbers, and gives the republicans eventually an opening to start hearings.
But there are a lot of downsides to throwing Jones under the bus, that need to be considered. It would give Beck, a man the left has been painting as a loon, a huge victory and credibility boost. They also know that Jones wouldn’t be the end, only the beginning, of Beck’s investigations into the rest of the administration. Moreover, there would still be a hit to 0bama’s numbers, and the rest of the radicals in the whitehouse would know that they’d be thrown under the bus whenever convenient which is bad for moral.
More importantly I think, is this: Jones is the ideological bloodbrother to 0bama, if he gets thrown under the bus, it would be like he’s throwing himself. 0bama’s fragile ego might not be able to withstand that. He is the Won, and he’s never wrong, sacrificing Jones would be too much like taking a hard look in the mirror and finding himself lacking.

Will V. J. Truther leave his post?
I wonder WWOD? What Will Obama Do?
It’s not a given in my book. Not at this point
Folk assuming a bad reference will keep someone out of the shadow cabinet are reacting pre-Obama.
IMHO Obie-wan is stymied by the fact bad references have never hurt in the past. And, he is in nothing-to-lose mode if we look at his stand on nationalizing health care.
Another moment of Truth, at least in the sense Obama understands truth

How is his being a Truther worse than his being a Commie?
I mean, it’s offensive and moronic and such, I get that. But Truthers have don’t stifle free speech or try to take one person’s stuff and give it to another or kill 20 million people.
Maybe I’m old fashioned, but the idea of this guy being Red bugs me far more than his being a Truther idiot.

I will bet my LEFT nut he does not get rid of him. If I lose my left not, at least I’ll still have the right one, and I’ll techinically still have one LEFT. How that for spin. ANd remember this. All nuts are left unless you lose them. Then you wont have any left. Right?
