Krauthammer: Van Jones Truther allegations “devastating”

posted at 8:48 am on September 4, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

What did the White House know about Van Jones’ Trutherism and when did they know it? Charles Krauthammer asks this question and calls the revelation about the Green Jobs Czar “devastating,” much more so than an epithet directed at Republicans that most of us have used at a wide range of people. Does Barack Obama believe that it’s acceptable to have paranoid conspiracists in high-level appointments, or was the White House simply too incompetent to properly research Jones in the vetting process? Because it comes down to those two options, and regardless of what we think of Jones, the blame for him being in the White House falls squarely on Obama (via RedState)

Meanwhile, Jim Hoft, who broke the story originally, finds evidence that this was not just a mistake in not reading the petition, as Jones tried to spin it yesterday. Jones also took part in a rally in 2002 that included some of the Truther conspiracy theories. He’s got screen caps of the rally information and Jones’ endorsement (#6 on the list), but here’s the heart of their protest (emphases mine):

Who created, trained and funded the Al Qaeda Network? What is the relationship between Bin Laden, his family and the Bush family and the Carlyle Group? Why were no fighter planes dispatched to intercept the four hijacked planes on September 11h , in violation of standard procedures? Who actually was in control of the “hijacked planes”? What is the U.S. relationship with Pakistan, and especially with its intelligence service, the ISI? Why did the then director of the ISI have $100,000 transferred to the man whom the FBI now calls the ringleader of the Sept. 11th attacks, and why does the U.S. not pursue this question? Did the CIA have foreknowledge of the attack, who tried to profit with put options on American, United, Merrill Lynch stock just before the attack? Why were the FBI told to not investigate the Bin Laden family links in the US? If the CIA met with Bin Laden last July, why didn’t they try to arrest him? If the US is serious about ridding the world of terrorism, why do we continue to fund and train terrorists? Why are we bombing Afghanistan, when none of the alleged bombers actually came from there, could there be another reason for our presence in that region, like oil? Is the war against Afghanistan illegal? What are Bush’s, Cheney’s and Rice’s connections to the oil industry? What are Bush’s and Cheney’s connections to the drug industry? Why is the evidence being destroyed when an investigation of the World Trade Center collapse is needed? Why seal Presidential records? Why intimidate professors from speaking out against this war? Why has the U.S. military been establishing working relations with the Uzbek military for several years? What other military involvement does the U.S. have in the Central Asian Republics? Why are U.S. military personnel or material assistance going to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Colombia as well? What relationship did various U.S. agencies and their contractors have with the Taliban, either directly or through Pakistani or Saudi agencies or contractors? Why does the U.S. overlook Pakistani drug lords who refine and export half to two-thirds of the world,s heroin despite its avowed determination to rid the world of drugs? Why has the Dept. of Justice stopped its investigation of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International despite its admitted heavy involvement in laundering drug money?

This may not have been an explicitly Truther event, but the kernels of paranoid conspiracy can certainly be found — and were certainly endorsed by Jones.

Van Jones has to go, and for more than just the reason that paranoid conspiracists of this type don’t belong in the White House, and certainly not as a “czar” of anything. Barack Obama will start trying to push the idea that he’s a moderate in order to rescue health-care reform, and reportedly he’s even willing to battle the left wing of the party to do it. No one will buy the idea that Obama is a moderate while he’s employing a man who thinks that George Bush murdered 3,000 people so he could grab oil and poppies from Central Asia. The man who knowingly employs a nutcase as one of his close advisers will look much more like a nutcase than a moderate.

Expect Jones to suddenly discover a desire to spend more time with his family, and soon. I’d guess Jones will be gone no later than Monday, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his resignation get announced in a “Friday afternoon document dump.”

Does Barack Obama believe that it’s acceptable to have paranoid conspiracists in high-level appointments, or was the White House simply too incompetent to properly research Jones in the vetting process?

This was not incompetence, it was design. Obama himself and VJ “vetted” Van Jones and found him acceptable, probably over protests from the Secret Service. In fact, according to Valerie Jarrett’s video at the Kos Kidz’ bash, they (meaning she and Obama) have been “watching him since Oakland.” The implication was clearly that they found him just hunky dory fabulous.

Maybe Jones was Obama’s trial balloon before bringing in Rev. Wright as the Religion Czar.

marybel on September 4, 2009 at 11:20 AM

Please keep him.

I really hope Obama sees his beliefs to their inevitable conclusion.

And every American will rue the day, they cast a ballot for this.

BHO is serving as the catalyst to finally force Americans to think which direction they want for this country one way or the other.

Now is not the time to back down for either side.

WichoFawkes on September 4, 2009 at 11:24 AM

During the ’08 election, a veritable bonanza of Obimbo connected domestic terrorists, anti-Semites, racial separatists, and anti-Americans were exposed (Ayers, Wright, Meeks, Khalidi, et al). The MSM knew exactly who Obimbo associated with, as did Biden, and the vast majority of North America.

It isn’t particularly revelatory that Obimbo is actively recruiting more radicals to serve with him in the WH, and of course, he was and is keenly aware of their political histories.

The question is what difference will it honestly make if the admin fires Jones? Obimbo will simply reach out to an endless succession of replacements waiting in the wings. Uncomfortable truths emerge about one of his hires and he fires them, only to hire another ten minutes later. The question is how much damage can these nut jobs do before the 2010 congressional elections, and more importantly, can a change in the congressional guard actually undo the damage?

anXdem on September 4, 2009 at 11:24 AM

My God.

This WH needs to be fumigated and inspected afterwards for vermin, pests, and parasites.

This is unsustainable. I don’t see where the B.O. Admin thinks it’s going with things like this.

It is pretty clear why Jones was made a czar, instead of being given a cabinet position. Cabinet officials have to be confirmed.

Vashta.Nerada on September 4, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Thump…thump…thump… one czar at a time.

I take issue with Krauthammer on communists in the White House. We are seeing what that does (for example to the people of Honduras, and to their attempt to put our health under their thumb.) Where’s Joe McCarthy? Get these vermin out of DC!

Christian Conservative on September 4, 2009 at 11:31 AM

Is there still room under the bus?

Obama surrounds himself with Black, racist, “haters” and paranoids, yet he doesn’t see himself associated in the bust since he isn’t aware, or wasn’t that close. The REV Wright, Ayers the White Weatherman, and now this nut who claims the White man is sending toxic waste to the ghetto would be enough to get a serious politician tossed out of office or at least laughed out of potency. They just keep coming out of the woodwork.

I will not give Obama and his Communist thugs the benefit of the doubt on any thing they say or attempt to do! They are the enemies of the United States and no longer even try to hide it! They must be opposed every day in every way at our disposal! They must be rooted out of every position of authority over Americans. They will collapse this great country if we keep believing their lies and propaganda!

Marco on September 4, 2009 at 12:06 PM

I am positively gleeful at the idea that each Czar is going to be scrutinized like this. It is time for a major house cleaning. I am actually hopeful that once the American people awaken from their slumber that there is going to be hell to pay. The One has given us hope and change in a different way then he expected. God works in mysterious ways. America needed a wake up call and boy did we get it. Let the revolution begin!

ReneePA on September 4, 2009 at 12:08 PM

This is unsustainable. I don’t see where the B.O. Admin thinks it’s going with things like this.

Totalitarian socialism. The Obamacrats have all branches of government and a trillion tax dollars at their disposal. They’ll only need about one-third popular support to survive. They can make up the difference by rigging the system and using government power to pick winners and losers.

modifiedcontent on September 4, 2009 at 12:09 PM

How is his being a Truther worse than his being a Commie?

I mean, it’s offensive and moronic and such, I get that. But Truthers have don’t stifle free speech or try to take one person’s stuff and give it to another or kill 20 million people.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but the idea of this guy being Red bugs me far more than his being a Truther idiot.

29Victor on September 4, 2009 at 11:08 AM

This is how I feel, as well. There are far more egregious things that Van Jones has done that should be stronger reasons for kicking him out of Obama’s administration than crazy troofer stuff. Still–if this is what it takes to boot Van Jones out, I’m all for it. But like others here, I’ll believe it when I see it.

It is pretty clear why Jones was made a czar, instead of being given a cabinet position. Cabinet officials have to be confirmed.

Vashta.Nerada on September 4, 2009 at 11:27 AM

So true. Which is why I think the clear light of day needs to start shining on the remaining “czars.” And it’s time for a drum to start beating this refrain no matter which party holds power in the Oval Office: NO MORE CZARS. There is no control over them, no vetting, nothing. They run under the radar of WE THE PEOPLE. The GOP needs to get on this bandwagon.

NO MORE CZARS.

This administration knew and knows exactly who Van Jones is because they all travel in the same circles. The Bamster assumed and continues to assume the MSM will ignore or refuse to report on any of these shady characters. Let’s face it: The White House and this country is currently being run by Communists.

I wonder if Larry’s looking at Google Trends regarding this.

Van Jones, who wasn’t even in the top 100 on Wednesday, moved to 80 & 40 on Thursday, and today (12:12 PM EST) sits comfortably at 19 (right behind Obama’s school speech at 18). “chi machine” and “fascist” are 22 and 39 respectively.

Nice work Barry.

Krauthammer needs to wake up! Communism is not dead! It has merely changed form it is now GREEN.

He also wants to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. He has chastised those who have been critical of this administrations motives. I don’t know what it will take for Charles to understand that the President no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt but, I think he will get there.

Probably not the most elegant solution, but it works.

Jones is just one of the intellectual maggots that make up Obama’s unconfirmed and unconfirmable stealth-cabinet. Kick over the rock on this one and maybe you’ll get enough public disgust to get some light turned on the rest.

I’ve never been a big Glenn Beck fan, but it’s utter joy to see the puppeteer behind ColorOfChange get pantsed.

The Obama White House is basically a grand buffet served on a table crawling with cockroaches. There’s a segment of the commentariat that want to be able to have their Obama a la carte, they’ll nibble the occasional artistically-plated appetizer and pronounce it tasty, blithely ignorant that the entire tablecloth is moving around.

As for Charles over at LGF, I hope by now someone’s photoshopped one of his little footballs bouncing over a shark. I’d do it but my photochop skills are such that it’ take me two hours.

JEM on September 4, 2009 at 1:06 PM

Love Krauthammer. However, have to disagree on one point. The term “Communism” doesn’t bother him? Let’s not get soft. The term should forever bother us. More importantly, a President that would appoint a Communist should frighten any true blooded American. Being a truther just tells us he’s stupid. Being a communist tells us what he believes because he’s stupid. I fear the later more.

I like the description of the “greenies” as watermelons. Green on the outside–and (communist) red on the inside!
***
To believe any conspiracy theory (John Kenny assassination, Robert Kennedy assassination, President FDR let Pearl Harbor happen on purpose, 9/11/2001 “Bush did it” stuff) you have to ignore any real evidence. And convince yourself that hundreds (thousands) of evil police, military, officials, etc.) can all act in unison to pull it off–without leaving any traces.

When in med school one of my two doctor sons was given a “what’s wrong with this patient” scenario and asked what tests should be run to get the right diagnosis. He ended up with the problem being some very rare African disease.

I know human nature and the history of American culture will lead most people to exclaim “it can’t happen here”. To somehow feel we are insulated from things that happen in Europe or South America from happening here. People who predict these disasters for America are usually labeled extremists or conspiracy kooks.

But it does feel like we are on the cusp of an up front communist take over. When all the pieces are in place, after decades of indoctrination and conditioning, that “change” will happen overnight.

Are we ready to defend against it? Even if what we are seeing is not as sinister as some suspect, shouldn’t we be vigilant at all times anyways? It looks like Americans are starting to answer that call and rally against even an appearance of losing the republic we know.

Let’s just hope the marxist fire will die down now and not heat up to where things could really get dicey in America

I’m not only disturbed that Van Jones is a ‘truther’ but that he either propogandizes or really believes white people are literally poisoning black people. How on earth was the President never told that this guy has made such outlandish claims. Or does he know and he’s nodding his head in agreement that Van is 100% correct. My prediction is he will throw Jones under the bus right there with his grandma. If it is true that President Obama was so incredibly inept that he had no idea Van Jones had such a mental disorder then the President should step to the plate, admit he is in way over his head, and choose to resign immediately citing he’s simply not equipped to handle the job. Of course, if he does that, he’ll probably appoint Van Jones to take his place in the interim. Wouldn’t that just make Glenn Beck fly into a tizzy

ranzofola on September 4, 2009 at 4:14 PM

This appointment of Czars without a confirmation process has proven to be undesirable. Lets take up an old Lefty objective of throwing out the Czars and push for a change of law that requires their confirmation.

KW64 on September 4, 2009 at 4:24 PM

Moe Lane has a video of Jones calling President Bush a “crackhead” and mocking domestic drilling. Yet, this Truther has aunthority to spend at least $80 billion. I also want to hear the Obama administration endorse Jones’ description of Bush.

This is GREAT!

Glenn Beck has been throwing the Alinsky book against this Van Jones all of these past two weeks, and look at the tsunami coming Jones’ way!

If that man ends up spending more time with his family – oh, heck: how about in exile, – maybe we should target those people at Color of Change next, and even those who even consented to that stupid boycott. They should be made to pay, dearly, for consenting to the actions and words of those kooks in the first place.

Hey Conservatives, Republicans: One can play the Alinsky Game just as well as the other. It’s time to play it against ALL OF THEM!

This is funny stuff. Obama dodging the fallout from his radical choices is as screwy as Baghdad Bob ever was. Hark: The Silence of the Comedians.

How on earth was the President never told that this guy has made such outlandish claims

That assumes that if Obama had been he would dump him. I think he is well aware of who and what Van Jones is and what he thinks. As others have mentioned elsewhere: Van Jones is the upfront version of Obama. Rev. Wright should have been a HUGE TELL for anyone actually paying attention but from experience I can tell you normally rational people had no problem brushing that off.

As I said last night: Van Jones will likely be where Obama tries to hold his line. Hopefully (snicker) it will hasten his undoing.

“Let’s Roll”

On Watch on September 6, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Okay, this is the sort of question that is very difficult to ask via email, because it sounds like I mean something I don’t. Here goes:

Krauthammer clearly knows something I don’t. (See, that sounds snarky, but in fact I mean it in the straightforward sense.) I would have thought being a Communist, an avowed revolutionary, who hates Capitalism, was plenty to get Van Jones thrown out. But it was not. Krauthammer correctly predicted that Van Jones’ Trutherism would make it necessary for him to step down. I am delighted that Van Jones has stepped down, and I detest his Trutherism just as Krauthammer does. But how did the exposure of Van Jones’ Trutherism get him forced out? I would have thought Obama would have just said, “So what? I don’t care if he’s a Truther. The more attacks on America the better, as far as I’m concerned. I’m not firing him.”

What was it about Van Jones’ Trutherism that forced Van Jones to resign?

Vik_R on September 6, 2009 at 3:26 PM

I don’t think Krauthammer understands the thugs we are dealing with here: this guy sails under any flag of convenience. He no more believes in paranoid trutherism than marxism. He is no more a christian than Jeremaiah Wright is. This is naked power and frankly they didn’t expect anyone to notice. The press certainly didn’t.

Is this difficult to understand?
