Too many Democratic congressmen behaving like jackasses for bloggers to keep up anymore
posted at 6:35 pm on September 3, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’ve started three different posts today about some lefty rep acting like an A-hole only to be sidetracked by a newer, even more egregious incident of A-holishness. So let’s be efficient and consolidate before the next one comes down the pike. First, via Radio Equalizer, we’ve got Louise Slaughter refusing to provide a forum to the sort of violent right-wing wackos who show up to these things and get their fingers bitten off. Next, courtesy of Jim Geraghty, enjoy Baron “Political Terrorists” Hill whining about the temerity of a constituent wanting to record one of his — his — town-hall meetings. And finally, from the boss comes an all-time classic of Pete Stark explaining how national debt is a sign of wealth before threatening to throw the interviewer through a window. That clip’s actually a year old (and maybe more, per his allusion to Republican control) but it’s making the rounds today for whatever reason, probably because it’s such a nice distillation of the incredible nastiness, condescension, and entitlement that’s marked the Democrats’ health-care messaging this summer.
Speaking of which: After writing multiple columns about the peril posed to the republic by conservative “angry mobs,” WaPo cartoon character E.J. Dionne is now disappointed in the media for being distracted by the “angry mob” meme that’s blown up in the left’s face.

You know, I hate to get the Constitution into minutiae, but at this rate we are going to have to amend so as to require a certain number of face-to-face meetings per annum, with each citizen who cares to do so getting a chance to speak.
I mean, I have a running fight with my local city council that has gone on for years, but when it came time to speak against them at meetings, I’ve had my three minutes. Why can’t we have on the national level what so many get at the local?

They can’t fathom that you don’t want what they deign to grant you. They’re frustrated and they simply don’t understand why you don’t want their “free” stuff. Don’t you know what’s in your own best interest?
Just out of curiosity, can anyone name for me any other “right” that guarantees that other people must give you stuff? First Amendment, Second Amendment, etc.? I can’t think of one. This health care thing ties in nicely to Obama’s stated desire to “fix” our flawed Constitution which is limited to “negative” rights (his words). He’s going to somehow grant (i.e. the right is granted by the government) us rights that the Government must provide, rather than guaranteeing our freedom by limiting what the government can do. I’m starting to think this constitutional scholar doesn’t really understand the American experiment at all.

One thing for sure is that it bares no resemblance to the Founding Fathers! We can certainly rule that out!

STARK STATEMENT ON NUMMI DECISION
August 28, 2009
“For 25 years the workers at NUMMI have produced some of the best cars and trucks in America. The craftsmanship of the employees at NUMMI is second to none. The closing of the plant is sad for the many individuals who built their lives around the jobs that NUMMI provided. I have no doubt that the skilled workers of the East Bay will rebound. I will work to marshal resources for retraining and to ensure that workers have financial stability during this difficult transition.”
Boo Frickin Hoo
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Where did did those jobs Go??
http://www.rickperry.org/node/1182
Toyota moving Tacoma production to San Antonio
In California, however, about 4,700 workers at the Fremont plant stand to lose their jobs, and a network of more than 1,100 California-based suppliers, which employ tens of thousands of workers, will be affected.
The plant in Fremont was Toyota’s first manufacturing facility in the United States when it opened in 1984 as a joint venture with General Motors and was called New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., or NUMMI. At its peak, the plant was capable of building 150,000 Tacomas a year.
“It just would not be economically viable to continue the production contract with NUMMI,” Toyota Executive Vice President Atsushi Niimi said in a statement.
Even the economy’s bigger in Texas: ‘Republican Paradise’ endures, thrives as tax-heavy enclaves falter
http://www.rickperry.org/media-articles/even-economys-bigger-texas-republican-paradise-endures-thrives-tax-heavy-enclaves-fal
California is the most dysfunctional state in the country. The “liberal paradise” has astronomical taxes, severe unemployment, a massive and cumbersome state bureaucracy and an enormous budget deficit. Detroit, once the proud heart of American industry, is a ghost town. The high taxes in Michigan and the dominant control of the labor unions have sent employers fleeing in droves.
Some businesses in Texas are even thriving. Unemployment is well below the levels in Michigan or California. While most states are near bankruptcy, Texas has a budget surplus. More Fortune 500 Companies are based in Texas than any other state. The triangle formed by Dallas, Houston and San Antonio is the fastest-growing region in the country. Texas created more jobs last year than all the other states combined.
So what’s the state government in Austin doing that keeps their economy so strong? Not much. But Texas’ governor, Rick Perry, would tell you that “not much” is exactly the reason Texas has avoided the agony of the recession.
Texas’ legislature doesn’t work very hard – they are only in session about half a year every two years. But this is a feature, not a bug. It appears that the more time politicians spend trying to “fix” the economy, the more screwed up it becomes. In California and New York, you can pay as much as 10 percent of your income in state taxes, and that’s on top of your federal tax bill. Texas, however, has no state income tax at all.
There are far fewer costly regulations that businesses must comply with, and there are fewer draconian zoning laws that artificially inflate real estate prices. Housing is affordable. What you would pay for a closet in New York’s Upper East Side would get you a medium-sized single family home in Houston.
But Texas doesn’t have a monopoly on pro-growth economic policy. Along the drive back to school at the end of the summer, we encountered enormous brand-new automobile factories built by companies like Hyundai and Kia in Georgia and North Carolina. These companies chose to avoid the high taxes and stifling regulations that make Detroit an economic graveyard.
The strategy for bringing our economy out of this mess seems obvious, but somehow Obama has concluded that the best way to help local economies plagued by high taxes and excessive regulations is by raising taxes and adding regulations. The out-of-control spending in Washington has already put us trillions of dollars into debt, and that’s before you count the costs of any of the health care schemes being debated now.
The question America must ask itself is simple. Do we, as a nation, really want to go down the road of New York and Detroit? Is the model of high taxes, high spending and a huge bureaucracy that companies are so desperately fleeing the model that will most quickly lift us out of this recession? Clearly, the answer is no. Texas’ low taxes and business-friendliness have helped them avoid the most painful effects of the downturn. America’s best hope to escape this recession is to emulate the Lonestar State.

Dionne thought those previous columns were already sent down the memory hole. Sorry, we aren’t quite living “1984″ yet. We still actually can see what you wrote a couple weeks ago.
The whole thing was a farce in the first place. The health care issue was polling very poor for the dems in June and July. If it weren’t polling so badly they would have passed the darn thing BEFORE the town halls. The angry mobsters, the nazi, the health insurance plants, brownshirts, the whole thing was a slap in the face to every person that was paying any attention to what they were trying to do. The reality is that a very significant portion of their voting bloc is opposed to this course of action (public option).
So the Dem’s, in their infinite wisdom, decided to minimize and agitate people that might be friendly to their cause, in many cases, because they left the reservation on this one. They ticked off the independents and the longer they go on with this, the longer the damage is going to take to repair. I loved it when I saw them going this route, because it’s a big win for us smaller gov’t types and we didn’t have to do a darn thing. Thanks guys!

Pete Stark is a socialist lunatic. Back in the 80s, Mr. Rockmom worked for a Democrat Congressman from California, whose chief of staff’s wife worked for Stark. She used to tell us about his expletive-filled tirades. We always knew he was a psycho.
By the way, this woman was a British citizen who Stark hired specifically to help him write a health care plan for America to ultimately mirror the NHS. So not only is he an asshole, he is a longtime single-payer advocate.

Ain’t gonna happen. I live in this prick’s district and he’s pretty much entrenched. Kinda helps when you have the following constituents:
1. Rich, liberal Silicon Valley techies who drone on about how we need single-payer as they pay their doctor for private concierge service while sheltering their income;
2. Unionized state employees with gold-plated benefits and near 100%-of-salary pension waiting for them when they retire at 57;
3. Welfare-dependent leeches who are so afraid of losing the scraps doled out to them that they’ll keep this guy in office indefinitely.
By the way, I find it kind of odd how this interview from nearly 15 years ago is suddenly making the rounds on the blogs. Not that I mind (people need to see this arrogant S.O.B.’s true colors) but it is interesting. Maybe there’s a viral-minded candidate running against him next year?
