Lefty spin on finger-biting incident: Hey, at least the guy had Medicare; Update: David Shuster picks up lefty spin

posted at 5:32 pm on September 3, 2009 by Allahpundit

When partisan violence gives you lemons, make lemonade. I like to imagine that Josh Marshall and Air America wrote two versions of this story before everything was straightened out about which protester did what to who. If the victim turned out to be pro-ObamaCare and therefore politically useful, they’d run the copy expressing their outrageous outrage; if not, they’d run this. Think of it as a tiny, surreal illustration of Chappaquiddick logic: Sure, the incident is, er, “regrettable,” but it’s fully redeemed by lefty policy.

MKH spoke to the victim, who’s strayed very far indeed from The Narrative:

Rice drove himself to nearby Los Robles Hospital after the incident for treatment. One report said his finger was reattached, but Rice told THE WEEKLY STANDARD in a phone interview that’s not the case.

“They weren’t able to attach it because a human bite has so much bacteria,” said Rice, who also said Wednesday’s rally had a different feeling than other local health care events he’d been to recently.

“It had a Code Pink element that I’d never seen before and it had a MoveOn element I’d never seen before,” he said, calling some of the Obamacare supporters “borderline emotionally out of control.”

It’s a shame they couldn’t reattach it, but let’s look on the bright side: If you believe The One, the doctors probably wanted to amputate his whole hand.

Update: From the nutroots’ lips to Shuster’s ears. Carry that water, David.

I live very close to where the finger incident occured. TO is ordinarily a very peaceful, quiet town. But I guess the great divider has even created conflict in what used to be a sleepy town. What the press won’t tell you is that the perp had to cross 6 lanes of busy traffic to confront the 65 year old.

These morons don’t understand two things:

A) Medicare is in deep sh*t as it is.

B) Medicare poses less of a threat to private industry and has less of a negative impact than ObamaCare would because the former has a much small segment of people who qualify.

amerpundit on September 3, 2009 at 5:39 PM

I love how the left is trying to make an issue out of the guy having Medicare. Well, what about the fact that when you are 65 and older Medicare is pretty much the ONLY OPTION you have for health insurance?

SHARPTOOTH on September 3, 2009 at 5:55 PM

So what if he had medicare? Just about everyone over 65 had medicare whatever their ideology might be. It might also be true that he pays an additional $500 a month for additional health care coverage or that he paid cash for the visit to the hospital. Who knows? My guess is that whatever kind of coverage he has, if he can find the crazy bastard who bit him…said crazy bastard will be paying for this.

Maybe they can take up a collection at MoveOn to help their guy pay for the damages.

Terrye on September 3, 2009 at 5:56 PM

Kind of related. My dad mashed his left hand in a industrial accident and his pinky never did heal right. It ended up bent at the first knuckle which made it worse then useless. He finally asked his doctor to rustle it but he refused on the grounds it could open him up to a lawsuit. Go figure.

RobD on September 3, 2009 at 5:59 PM

The fact that this man decided to get in the face of the one of the older, smaller people in the group says everything for me. Typical bully tactics. I am sure he didn’t expect Mr. Rice to come back at him. So gross that someone could do this, the second joint of his finger, yuck.

Think of it as a tiny, surreal illustration of Chappaquiddick logic: Sure, the incident is, er, “regrettable,” but it’s fully redeemed by lefty policy.

For all the Left’s proclamations of independence and rational thought, they always manage to Stand By [Their] Man, don’t they?

Sometimes its hard to be a Dem
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times
And he’ll have good times
Doing things that you don’t understand
But if you love him you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh be proud of him
‘Cause after all he’s just a Dem
Stand by your Dem
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your Dem
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your Dem
Stand by your Dem
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your Dem

calling some of the Obamacare supporters “borderline emotionally out of control.”

Looking at the Weekly Standard stories and the links in it, I had forgotten about the assault on the doctor last month.

I will repeat what I said before in a different thread–both sides have ardent adherents, and emotions will run high, but it is my firm personal belief, essentially affirmed by these two incidents, that in Ventura County there is a strain of liberal supporters who have apparently developed a brand of group-think that I would say that, while it doesn’t cross over into the psychopathic, does nevertheless firmly reside in the amoral territory of (almost) “anything goes” when it comes to action against the “enemies” of liberalism, and that I firmly believe the two actions against ObamaCare opponents are the natural result of this group-think.

I in no way assume this is the view of more than a handful, or that the majority of those holding to liberal views in Ventura County are in any way, shape, or form linked to these folks, but I do have to say heaven help anyone who gets in their sights, because I do not think the rules of polite society will save them.

capitalist piglet on September 3, 2009 at 5:39 PM

I agree about the Democrates. There are a lot of older people who have no idea what happened to their party and still believe in the old principals it held. As far the party being taken over, it was. In 1998 the socialist began helping to elect democrates to congress that pledge their support and affliation to the New Party. Obama was closely associated to them, if not one of their members. The original plan was to get enough democrates elected that they could split off and establish themselves as a far left socialist party. To their surprise, they ended up with control of the whole democratic party.
On another note, there is so little difference anymore between the two parties that we really do need a third party that is based on the constitution and in touch with the people who elect them.

If we can not have that, then maybe a mandate that sets aside two months of each year and requires every representative to appear and answer the questions of those they represent, with the number of meetings and locations being appropriate to insure that those they represent have an unrestricted opprotunity to meet with them and a requirement that the representative answer all questions or provide and anwser within ten days to the person or persons who asked the question.

Biting to this kind of end indicates a messed up psychology on part of the biter. If I’m in a bear hug and need to bite to get him to release, I’m not going to keep at it till I take a bloody chunk of meat in my mouth.

The one thing I can tell you that that is the punishment in Saudi Arabia for stealing.

I am a bit tired of all the Medicare gloating from the Left. It’s not like you have a choice once you reach a certain age, you are forced to go on Medicare. I can’t speak for Mr. Rice but I would rather keep my current coverage if I could.

The biting incident was a preview of how the ObamaJokerCare death panels will work.

The feds will ID the oldest, weakest person in the crowd and assign to him as his case worker a deranged zombie-type Dem piece of astroturf.

The case worker will then approach, introduce himself and consume the oldster whole. Cash bonuses will be paid to case workers who consume their clients fastest, cleanest, completeliest.

Maybe the biter has dental through United Health or something….so flippin’ what. Weak sauce, Shuster and co.

I read it as a “gotcha!” from the liberal AP. Others certainly seem to have read it that way as well.

John on September 3, 2009 at 6:29 PM

Fully agreed! But, too, by Federal mandate, a man his age has to be registered with Medicare. that’s obvious but many don’t fully know the law.

So, my next question is about whether the guy used Medicare or a private insurance carrier covered the bill. Or if bites by humans and/or domesticated animals aren’t covered anywhere and the man has to pay out-of-pocket.

So I take it that Shuster then believes that people that have private insurance have no grounds to push for a public option? Well, of course he doesn’t. That is different.

stldave on September 3, 2009 at 6:35 PM

he fact that this man decided to get in the face of the one of the older, smaller people in the group says everything for me.
Cindy Munford on September 3, 2009 at 5:59 PM

That, and the fact that he ran away afterwards and hasn’t been heard from since!

Bully + coward = Moveon.org.
