Video: Michelle rips Obama over school speech

posted at 10:17 pm on September 2, 2009 by Allahpundit

An interesting twist on the argument most critics have been making today: She’s not expecting the speech to be anything beyond innocuous “stay in school” stuff, but she worries that teachers will take the occasion as encouragement to get kids doing more politicized class assignments which Hopenchange can then use for cutesy PR. Surely the left isn’t that cynical, is it? As for the first part of the clip, dealing with the repulsive posting on Organizing for America, her point about a lefty climate of hate and Obama’s shocking failure to denounce it is well taken — but even so, it should be emphasized that that was a diary entry on the site, not something the administrators cooked up. That doesn’t excuse it, but it’s the difference between a dKos diarist posting something and Kos himself postng it. The former is merely a case of a nut exploiting someone else’s platform.

By the way: Fifth week in a row at number one, in case you’re keeping count. Which you should be!

Michelle,radiant and savvy as always!!:)

canopfor on September 2, 2009 at 10:20 PM

I think the outrage on this whole thing is that this speech is (underhandedly) an attempt to make small minds view the The One as worthy of praise and adulation. That is his words are timeless, regardless of what they are (which includes his words on healthcare, environment, taxes, etc.) I think people are just worried that this is meant to elevate him to a place in kids’ heads that he probably doesn’t deserve.

Mayhem on September 2, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Allah the lap dog….you gotta LOVE Michelle. You go girl! Congratulations on a well deserved five weeks at NUMBER ONE!

HornetSting on September 2, 2009 at 10:21 PM

My children go to the local, public school. The curriculum is pretty straightforward and the local school board has a common sense approach to things. Regardless, I keep an eye on things and have had to step in when I hear about presentations that may be one sided. “An Inconvenient Truth” comes to mind…I called the school when I heard that this movie was going to be shown to my sixth grader. I told the administrator that I felt an opposing viewpoint would be warranted given the nature of the program. The school decided to drop the whole thing.

Now, I know that this is an unfair comparison to Barack’s speech, but as a parent, I would at least like to see the text of the speech before allowing my kids to participate…I do not appreciate having persons of influence speak to my children without MY permission. Do you??? I will be calling the school districts in the morning and telling them that my children will be enjoying a four-day weekend solely due to their decision to participate in this odd exercise… Hey, I would keep my kids home if George Bush tried this..

TheChicagoWay on September 2, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Michelle nailed this one.

AUINSC on September 2, 2009 at 10:22 PM

The former is merely a case of a nut exploiting someone else’s platform.

Um, yeah, but isn’t the person to whom the platform belongs at least somewhat culpable for allowing the nut to post it in the first place? It isn’t the comments section, it is a diary entry, presumably, by an author the site owner approves of.

VDH addressed this on Hugh Hewitt’s show yesterday.

“Well, I mean all he has to do is get a red cover (for the distributed classroom activities) and he’s in China or get a green copy and he’s in Libya. That’s what totalitarian regimes do; they reach out to children and the schools who don’t have any choice….it’s part of a mandated curriculum…this is happening at a time when his polls are crashing…..we saw this in the campaign, there was this whole narcissistic messianic sense of himself…it is creepy, that’s the perfect word for it…”

So,instead of busing goons into CEO’s neighbourhoods,

Spirit of 1776 on September 2, 2009 at 10:28 PM

The whole thing can be summarized by the line….since erased, “WHAT CAN I DO FOR THE PRESIDENT”. I thought the speech was going to be ABOUT THE KIDS, but as usual, it all turns back on BARRY.

No doubt but I don’t see how Obama is to blame for this.

We’ve had the NEA and other groups politicizing the classroom – or trying to – for decades. To be sure, Obama and the White House know this and probably see that they just need to make an anodyne statement and others can do the rest.

But that’s another fight.

So Allah, is your boss that more intelligent or do you simply ignore all the posts who made that very same point?

highhopes on September 2, 2009 at 10:31 PM

Bombchelle Malkin once again does systemic damage to the USS Hopenchange reducing it to a flotilla of fecal matter and bits of undigested corn. The dKos Diarrhea-ists are thrashing about which makes for a rather nasty scene, but nevertheless, one with some comedic value for the good guys.

Signed: The Nut exploiting your platform.

has no one heard of Channel 1? Our kids, via Federal Statute have been bombarded with leftist garbage for years.

Oh, and in my kids schools, it was shown madatory in study hall and they were tested in History on the content.

The more Obama persists in being his own spokesperson, the more he will be over exposed. Very soon now we will come to the point where he will begin to take on an eerie resemblance to “Big Brother”, the omnipresent face of Orwell’s “1984″.
Keep up the good work Mr. President, you’re well on your way to a truly unique place in history – or is it Hell?

Exactly. If Obama says innocuous stuff, but then a teacher politicizes it, how ultimately is that O’s fault?

More “you can do no right” politics from the right. Obama could walk into a homeless shelter and give out sandwiches and the right will find some hidden, nefarious, covert, “socialistic” mind-control agenda in it.

Yet another example of the how the right is acting exactly like the left did from 2000-2008.

There is a wonderful note of irony to be savored here: Aren’t these the very same lovely folk who went absolutely ballistic a while back over “Big Tobacco” marketing to our children?

How precious it is to now see them marketing their own brand of soul crushing poison to the very same audience. Oh, but now its just a fine idea. Its clever and creative and unique how “Big Brother” plans to suborn our children and turn them against us. I wonder how long it will take him to ask the teacher to begin turning our children and grandchildren into informers and snitches?

It’s more than that…this isn’t “Obama, the really cool, underprivileged minority dude” speaking to the kids…this is the President of the United States…if parents have taught their kids to love this country, then that puts parents, who may not be a fan of his messianic, marxist philosophy in a bit of a bind.

Those saying…”just talk to your kid after the speech”, you hyperventilating wingnuts…are clearly not taking into account the power of a speech, from the POTUS, on a young American mind.

It’s kind of hard for a parent to say…love the US, but ignore this narcissistic jerk that the US, somehow, elected as President without undermining the very training the parent was trying to instill in the child…It’s an insidious predicament…and I don’t think it’s just some ‘inartful’ accident.

Obama, the snake oil salesman strikes again this time trying to sell his snake oil remedies to gullible children. Hmmm, can the children be more gullible than the parents and adults that voted for him?

Good call.

I just went to the last page in those archives, to August 18th, 2008. Here’s what they were reporting on:

HANNAH: YEAH, FOR THE FIRST TIME BARACK OBAMA AND JOHN MCCAIN APPEARED ON THE SAME STAGE TOGETHER.

HANNAH: PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEES OBAMA AND MCCAIN STOOD ON THE SAME STAGE FOR LESS THAN A MINUTE AT A FAITH FORUM IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

HANNAH: BUT, THE FACT THEY SHARED ANY TIME TOGETHER IN THE SPOTLIGHT PROVES JUST HOW MUCH THE CANDIDATES WANT TO EARN THE SUPPORT OF THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT.

HANNAH: THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FIELDED QUESTIONS FROM POPULAR PASTOR AND EVANGELICAL AUTHOR RICK WARREN. EACH ANSWERED THE SAME QUESTIONS POSED BY WARREN.

(SOT: ) “At what point does a baby get human rights in your view?”

(SOT: Obama) “Answering that question with specificity is above my pay grade.”

(SOT: McCain) “At the moment of conception.”

HANNAH: THE FAITH FORUM WAS HELD AT A CHURCH RATHER THAN AUDITORIUM. BOTH OBAMA AND MCCAIN ARE HOPING THEIR APPEARANCE WILL GAIN THEM VOTES FROM THE EVANGELICAL RIGHT.

These were very significant and insightful comments tonight by Michelle Malkin. Should be rebroadcasted by Fox this weekend (my suggestion).

Yes, exactly what this is. Did anyone also hear that Obama had a “party” to “celebrate the end of Ramidan”? Is that true?

If true, did anyone ask him why he and wife don’t “celebrate Christmas” (Obama’s very words from last Fall).

It’s just too darn silly!

That’s what Lenin’s followers said, that’s what the German Socialists said, that’s what Castro’s shootists were saying, that’s what Obama apologists are saying.

forgive the off topoic post but
Olympia snowejob needs to be stopped !
Call her office and say you are from Maine and represent a group of seniors against obamacare. It doesn’t matter if you don’t live in Maine. Find a zip code and town name off the net and call her now. Or say you are a moderate dem who voted for her, and you are against obamacare or any public option. We need to burn her local Maine offices as well as Washington. Call her now before she caves to the libs. Call her now!!!!
