Quotes of the day

“There are other potential pitfalls: an intra-party revolt by liberals if he ditches the public insurance option; creating unrealistic expectations at a time when many in his party would opt for quiet deal-making; and the ever-present hazard of presidential overexposure – which would permanently dilute Obama’s ability to influence national debates…

After a devastating August that saw a host of humiliating town hall demonstrations and an alarming drop-off in Obama’s personal popularity, ‘He had no choice, he had to do something,’ a senior house leadership aide told POLITICO.

‘It’s fish-or-cut-bait time.’”

“What accounts for the global electorate’s growing disgust with the political overclass? Try this: No matter the ideological cast of these governments, they all hold in common one policy: the inexorable upward march of national indebtedness. It has arrived at the edge of the cliff…

In short, the lumpen electorate works, and the lumpen bureaucratariat spends. They get away with it because they have perfected the illusion that no human hand causes these commitments. The payroll tax just happens. Entitlements are ‘off-budget,’ presumably in the hands of God. This is government without the responsibility of governance…

This is hardly a fair fight. The political overclass everywhere holds the power to print money and grab it back with taxes and inflation. Still, the election returns suggest that something is stirring. Maybe we should call it the revolt of the masses.”

“Presidents always encounter rough patches. What is unusual is how soon Mr. Obama has hit his. He has used up almost all his goodwill in less than nine months, with the hardest work still ahead. At the year’s start, Democrats were cocky. At summer’s end, concern is giving way to despair. A perfect political storm is amassing, and heading straight for Democrats.”

THEY WILL NOT GIVE UP….and HE WILL KEEP LYING.

They are going to try to get Olympia Snowe to provide cover on the GOP side (or maybe Sen. Lugar another Obama lover).

But they just don’t realize that he has now lost credibility with INDEPENDENTS and I don’t think he’ll ever get it back.

PRAY FOR ROADBLOCKS TO KEEP HIM FROM PULLING THIS OFF.

I really don’t see how he can get the public will back. Even if he gets a compromise or whatever, with the loss of his numbers, people look at him with no rose colored glasses now.

No public favorability + congressional poll numbers, I don’t see how speechifying is going to turn that around now.

Watch for the language and some quid pro quo back door deal between Obama and the far left on the public option in V2.0 when the bill comes out. He’s never challenged his base on anything meaningful in his entire political career, and we’re not yet to the point where he has to move to the center to survive in 2012.

So there’s a good chance before this speech some private assurances will have already been made that if the left keeps their traps shut and their hands off overtly putting the public option back into the bill, it will be snuck in later through either conference committee dealings or lawyereese wording that loopholes the public option back into Obamacare under the ‘proper’ interpretation.

He had a bad mistake when he wrote 38-3 and 41-4, meaning Ford was below 50% approval after only 3 months (Nixon pardon) and Clinton was below 50% approval after just 4 months (Gays in the military, Haitian refugees, travel office firings, FBI files in the White House, etc). Clinton was 42 obviously. Can’t believe Karl did that considering how many times he saw Bush 41 over the years.

Presidents always encounter rough patches. What is unusual is how soon Mr. Obama has hit his.

The Precedent’s had nothign but one big, rough patch. He picked fights with individuals and got his hat handed to him every time. He has embarrassed himself over and over and has not done anything well.

For anyone who recognized his intentions and his stupidity and ineptitude from the campaign, none of this is a surprise, save the tsunami of stupidity that emanates from the White House. He is just trying to kill us faster than some of us had expected, but he’s not done anything that should surprise the careful observer.

He’s been able to recover in the past by keeping the mask firmly in place. Now that the middle class realizes what Obama really is, they won’t be able to go back to Hope and Change again. Folks don’t like being duped.

There is no trust left. Hundreds of millions of people on this planet fought and tens of millions died resisting the worldview Obama represents and he thinks we’ll just voluntarily adopt it. He’s wrong.

Obama and his fellow Fabians are committed to forcing their agenda on us. Nothing they attempt must be allowed. We must make this country ungovernable for Obama and Pelosi.

Lets see if they are willing to take this country to the precipice to impose their wretched and dark world view on us. If they try it we’ll be ready.

Just heard some reports back from our representative’s town hall tonight (Yarmuth – D, KY 03). When asked how the public option would be paid for, he said, “I don’t know.” Then he went on to compare the public option to public water. People will buy bottled water, he reasoned, and they’ll drink water from the tap, too, and pay for it every month.

How dumb do they think we are?

Here’s a guy who has the entire MSM doing all they can to prop him up, and who has super-majorities in Congress to back him up. He’s history-making, alright. A history making failure.

Am I the only one who feels a sense of guilt longing for the good old days of President Clinton?

I feel dirty. This narcissistic fascist just enrages me.

platypus on September 2, 2009 at 11:24 PM

You and me both. I’d rather have a friendly neighborhood sniper than Obama.

Clintonite here. No.

But he was a consummate true polictician.

He dealt with whatever politics threw him.

AnninCA on September 2, 2009 at 11:52 PM

Then he went on to compare the public option to public water. People will buy bottled water, he reasoned, and they’ll drink water from the tap, too, and pay for it every month.

Gottafang on September 2, 2009 at 11:49 PM

He must have been channeling Yogi Berra?

Holger on September 2, 2009 at 11:52 PM

I think we’ll adjust. Truly. I think Obama is Carter. Great ideas.

No real political skills.

AnninCA on September 2, 2009 at 11:54 PM

So what is he going to say? “I spent the month of August watching Fox News and Glenn Beck and I now understand that the majority of Americans don’t want this health care crap…so lets just all forget-about-it.”??

Listen for the twisty talk. Everytime he says, “As I have said from the beginning,” beware that he is about to say something that he didn’t say ‘from the beginning’. If he states that he has abandoned the public option but in it’s stead will accept ‘more competition’ through an ‘exchange’ rest assured there will be language in the final bill that includes a public option.

If he punts right, you had better look left. (no pun intended, but that was pretty good, eh?)

LEBA on September 2, 2009 at 11:54 PM

Again, I ask. Did any of you watch the truly interesting CSPAN program about presidential communications?

Every major player from Ford through Bush Jr. was there. Nobody screamed. (thank you, HP).

It was fabulous.

Given how he pushed porkulus through despite the outcry, and he took over the auto industry while the non-union part of the country screamed bloody murder; that guy doesn’t care about polls. Obama is a true believer. He is putting the mechanisms in place to ensure a victory for 2012 regardless of the vote count.

Laura in Maryland on September 2, 2009 at 11:57 PM

So what is he going to say? “

Not much. This great program, which was really insightful, pointed out that every single administration which had to come back and say, “Let’s reset the button on this,” was nothing but code for “Failed.”

It won’t go anywhere.

Healthcare reform is a smart idea, in my opinion. I think it was mishandled badly. I’m for public option, and I know that I’m looking for moderate reforms to help real people.

But let me issue a bit of warning. I’m independent. I am definitely not one of “you” conservatives.

If this reforms are truly significant, you have won the battle and lost the war.

I’ll be very much skeptical that the GOP isn’t being controlled by wierdos from the odd side of life.

I’m not into that.

How dumb do they think we are?

Here’s some coverage in case you’re interested:

How dumb we are finding out they are.

That may have been true back last winter, but I’m not so sure anymore.

How can he not be watching?

I predict a meltdown by Barry. No one has ever told him no and I don’t think he can handle the truth.

Have you BOTHERED to read any of the background on the people who surround Obama? On his Czars? On his Advisors?

Oh, and for the record, it is NOT the GOP who is leading the charge against this, its common citizens… its the Tea Party folks… who have NOTHING to do with the GOP.

But please, continue with your blinders… its amusing…

katy, Van Jones is a student of the Weather Underground

We are a guerrilla organization. We are communist women and men, underground in the United States … in the struggle against US imperialism.

Our intention is to disrupt the empire … to incapacitate it, … to attack from the inside.

Our intention is to forge an underground … a clandestine political organization engaged in every form of struggle, protected from the eyes and weapons of the state, a base against repression, to accumulate lessons, experience and constant practice, a base from which to attack.

I was surprised to see Valerie Jarrett promoting Van Jones in that video.

He may, or may not care about polls. Rest assured though that the congcritters care.
