Video: Glenn Beck screams about Van Jones and Obama

posted at 7:13 pm on September 1, 2009 by Allahpundit

Very frequently, I don’t understand where his manic exasperation’s coming from. But sometimes, I do.

First clip is the money bit from today’s 20-minute long harangue about Jones. The second clip is Jones himself from an appearance in February at Berkeley. There are all kinds of bon mots in the mix if you can spare the time to watch — Republicans are “assholes,” evidently — but if you can’t spare it, skip ahead until there’s about 30 seconds left.

Blowback

You’re right about the youth being sympathetic towards communism, but I don’t think it is because communism has somehow become relevant. Poor education is more likely the cause. None of this would be an issue though if the GOP were articulating the fundamental attributes of conservatism and publicly thrashing the flaws of collectivist political ideologies.

blankminde on September 1, 2009 at 9:18 PM

I concur. It’s the revivalist history in textbooks and Marxist instructors that have kindle communist zeal in modern youths.

A lot people aren’t sympathetic to commies. If being a commie is cool, why didn’t Obama tell us he was a commie during the election?

Kjeil on September 1, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Because he didn’t want to lose independents and ostensibly potential Republican votes. Communist doctrine is embolden at college campuses; I guerannte more than half of the voters under 25 who voted for Obama are self avowed communists.

I think some of us might abandon the “Marxist revolution is nigh!!!!1111″ rhetoric propped up by the dead horse of Obama’s dumber rhetoric.

For starters, nobody, nobody calls themselves a Marxist nowadays. I daresay nobody except for a few revolutionaries in the Third World may be true Marxists.

For those of you who say that might be a tad pedantic, I say it is not. The Russian Revolution, or any other communist revolution, is in no way comparable to what we have today. Absolutely incomparable. If you still honestly think so, I’d love to somehow transport you to the times and countries that were wracked by guerilla warfare and communist massacre, but I can’t.

Obama is not evil – he’s just an incredible idealist with his head in the clouds. He is not plotting the destruction of a country that allowed Michelle and him 300k/year salaries for a “public service” job and one of the quickest, conflict-free ascents to the Presidency in history. This is his way of trying to make the country better.

Never attribute malice to what may be explained by stupidity.

Black Yoshi on September 1, 2009 at 10:17 PM

Another vote for Glenn Beck. Passion does not equate to histrionics.

I also second Skidd’s point that this is not entertainment, to be “approved of” by the “enlightened audience.”

I have the strong feeling that the Founders made quite some number of impassioned speeches, and like Beck it was their own precious asses on the line. It’s pretty easy to sit back here and criticize.

BTW, Pastor Stephen Broden reminds me strongly of preachers from my youth, and I’d go to his church any time. There’s a man of God, period.

faraway on September 1, 2009 at 10:25 PM

Let me make this perfectly clear, Obama and his bunch are definately a danger to our country. Anyone who does not believe this has their head in the clouds and up their b#**s, too.

mobydutch on September 1, 2009 at 10:26 PM

More on topic – that was quite a pit of vipers there for Van Jones’ “speech.”

I especially liked his call for people other than the President to “get ugly.” Too late.

Maybe instead of the GOP trying to get the elderly vote through Medicrap they should talk more about communism. It is the same generation of Americans that fought to destroy communism that is receiving benefits. Why not work harder to highlight the current administration’s complicit role in enacting communist policy, inch by inch, here in America? I admit it is a tough sell…makes for long advertisements.

blankminde on September 1, 2009 at 8:19 PM

Did you notice how the students at Berkley laughed at the girl questioner who asked about the Marxist philosophy behind Jones’s ideas? This is a generation of young people who have been taught that Communism was just a scare tactic promulgated by the Right. They have been taught nothing of its horrors.

onlineanalyst on September 1, 2009 at 10:27 PM

I’ll give it my best try, in those two-syllable, SF suburbanite, Castro Valley words. Van Jones might as well be Narcissus and the crowd, Echo. What an excellent example of speaking truth to power by speaking to reflections of yourself.

Since January, I’ve been driving around with a “Question O(Obama logo)thority” bumper sticker. Early on, I’d get stupid hippies in Berkeley pumping their fists and screaming “Yeah! Obama!” (a la the South Park 2008 election episode) as they drove by me, not realizing that I was taking a slap at their Messiah. All of a sudden, I’m getting people outside of Berkeley (i.e., in places like Concord, which Jones so smugly insults) honking as they drive by. One guy followed me and parked his car beside mine at the store. I thought “Oh boy, here it comes. He’s going to punch my lights out.” He walked up and said, “I didn’t think I’d ever see anyone brave enough to diss Obama in [liberal] Alameda County. Thank you.” The folks have figured out that Obama is no Messiah, and if he is “The One,” he’s the “Big Red One.”

Obama is not evil

Anybody who has no problem with shoving living, botched abortion babies into closets until they die is not only evil, but REALLY evil.

The guy may or may not be a hopeless idealist who honestly *thinks* what he’s doing is right. That doesn’t matter. He’s still evil, and what he’s doing is pure evil. Even the Israelites had to make atonements for unintentional sins.

2Brave2Bscared on September 1, 2009 at 11:05 PM

I take a different colloquial definition of evil than you do, so our whole disagreement boils down to semantics.

Yes, Obama and all the rest who push abortion on us are, well, wicked. But personally, I ascribe evil purely to people like Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, and guerilla leaders in the Congo and Sierra Leone that are consciously trying to create as much death and destruction as possible.

If you use the same word for the fairly elected 44th President of the United States and Hitler, you’ve almost completely devalued the world. I don’t see Obama rounding people up to be shot and gassed.

Black Yoshi on September 1, 2009 at 11:15 PM

Van Jones agenda is much deeper than ‘green jobs’ – he wants to replace the U.S Incarceration industry with youth opportunities and community-based solutions.

He is ‘drafting’ people for his green programs from San Quentin – he gave a speech in San Quentin 3 days before he became a czar. He was recruiting the recruiting the prisoners for due to their “entrepreneurial brilliance”.

I’m getting really sick of pundits, AP included unfortunately, who continually forward this “Beck is a screaming clown” meme, that’s being propagated by Obamas minions and sychophants in the press in order to discredit what he’s saying. It’s bullsh!t and it’s fighting a battle on the enemy’s terms.

If you took an exact transcript from Beck, and had Charles Krauthammer or George Will repeat it verbatim in their own droll, passionless styles, a mouse pissing on cotton would be louder than the reaction they’d get, speaking the exact same words, TRUE AS THEY ARE.

So, knock off the condescension please, AP, and quit forwarding the enemy line.

http://www.yantis.us/sq.pdf

macncheez on September 1, 2009 at 7:37 PM

Wow. Good job finding this info. Saved that off locally, just in case. There were two very revealing articles in that pdf. I hope Beck picks up on them.

In the second one, the opinion piece on page 7, I was amazed to read Jones quoted as saying:

The problem-makers in our economy are “the war makers, polluters, and incarcerators,” according to Jones. “It is unlikely that the present high lords of oil, coal and armaments will reverse course or give up their power without a struggle. A new force must emerge to realign American politics, transform the political landscape and supplant the Texas/Pentagon axis.”

Jones explains that his mission is for the “oppressed to confront and defeat their oppressors.”

“The Texas/Pentagon axis”? WTF? He might be a bit surprised at the level of resistance his ‘forces’ encounter should he actually try anything in Texas. Or maybe he’s just anticipating battle lines in the coming secession. /sarc

Haven’t watched Beck in a long time. Saw the show yesterday and today. DVR’d all last week, but haven’t yet watched those shows. Today’s was stunning. Didn’t hear any screaming, though. I’m glad Beck’s exposing this slow motion marxist coup currently underway. I hope millions see and hear what he and his staff are digging up.

And Yoshi, I see and understand your point. But I think, if left unchecked and unexamined, it’s only a matter of time. The beginnings of all those other marxist/communist regimes started in an eerily similar manner to what’s going on right now in America.

The patterns are there. Beck and the few of us paying attention are the only ones apparently seeing them.

2Brave2Bscared on September 2, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Oh, tut, tut. The saner minds of the “conservative” and moderate elements have been telling us for decades that there are no such things as Communists in the U.S., and that Obama is really a nice young man who means well…just give him a chance. And let’s “reach across the aisle” because after all, we can agree to disagree. And it’s all good. At the end of the day. It is what it is.

Since you say “all those other” regimes, I assume Russia, China, et. al. started as freedom-loving lights of representative democracy, continued onto a strong reinforcement of basic civil rights, and had a history of competently managed elections? Plus, their problems began when democratically and peacefully elected leaders began to reveal too much of their utterly stupid health care plan and as a result royally slipped in approval ratings?

If there’s something else in common, please let me know.

There are, in fact, many historic distinctions. Hitler wanted to blot out a whole subset of mankind, for one. And he certainly wasn’t doing it as what he perceived as a “humane” last resort.

I love HA, but it cracks me up sometimes. Here it’s not enough that a person admires and gives props to GB for his mission and courage. It’s not enough that one agrees with 99% of what he puts out. Here, according to Glenn’s most ardent defenders, anyone that finds his emotionalism a little hard to to wade through is almost as bad as a stinking commie. Cracks me up.

If one is not big on emotionalism does it mean that one is not worthy to stand side-by-side with the real patriots who seem to be saying there’s no room for criticism of one of our own. F!#k, does that mean that when the Sh!t hits the fan, like so many are prepared for, that a critic of GB’s emotionalism isn’t welcome in your F!#king firefight? Obama has piled on the leftists and it doesn’t matter if they are National Socialists, Socialists, Fascists or Communists, which are all just different heads of the same dog. The objective of Obama and his merry team of goose-stepping radicals are out to destroy the Constitution and take power FOREVER and the GOP is doing NOTHING to stop it.
The PEOPLE are the ones out there trying to save this country from Obama and his pinkos and the GOP needs to be JUST as afraid of us as the Democrats because NEITHER party is standing for the Constitution.
Someone please tell me when someone in the House or Senate will have the guts to stand up on either chamber’s floor and say “NO MORE, THESE BILLS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL”!
The Democrat’s idea of National Healthcare Legislation is Unconstitutional and illegal but so is the GOP’s idea of Tort Reform, which violates the 7th Amendment.
There are 3 media personalities on T.V. and radio, who are out there telling the truth on a daily basis, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, (If I have missed someone who is standing for the Constitution, please let me know) NO ONE in government, in either party standing for the Constitution (so help me God if anyone mentions that fraud Ron Paul and the Constitution in the same breath, I will tar and feather you myself!)

A few years ago, we were having lunch @ a restaurant in Marin ( Lindh’s ) county, and a cop asked us to remove our car from the restaurant’s parking lot, while we were still eating. Reason ? It had a star n stripes sticker on the rear windshield ( approx 4″x2″). We refused and asked to see her Sgt. When we finished our lunch and walked to our car, we found the cop standing by our car, all by herself. She said she was guarding our car against vandalism, b/c she had found out that we were not locals . That sticker was inciteful, she said

Very frequently, I don’t understand where his manic exasperation’s coming from. But sometimes, I do.

Hey, lets lose the prophet attitude and realize Beck is right on target 99% of the time in just about any concern he highlights. This issue is no different.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned in the thread, but the scariest part of today’s show to me was the NEA conference call in which artists, writers, singers, etc. of the right “mindset” were recruited to start promoting Obama’s agenda through their work.

In what corner of the world does this NOT smack of left-wing fascism? It is a page straight out of Hitler’s or Stalin’s playbook.

If Americans weren’t so friggin’ intellectually lazy (or in the case of the younger generations, brainwashed via public education), they would have learned this in history class. Alas, as Truman said, “The only thing new is the history you don’t know.”

NoLeftTurn on September 2, 2009 at 3:04 AM

So why isn`t HotAir, to follow Saul Alinsky method, “freezing” on Van Jones and trying to force him to either resign or have Obama make him resign or Congress investigate his background?

Why does it seem that HotAir only posts about radical communist Van Jones if it has something to do with Glenn Beck and a reference to Glenn Beck´s personality; today it is “screaming”? Which is more important to HotAir – pointing out Glenn Beck “screaming” or getting radical communist Van Jones out of government office?

albill on September 2, 2009 at 6:52 AM

Simple way to teach the evil of communism to the youth of western civilization.

Show “yuts” without stuff in all of those utopias.
30 or so photographs on billboards and ad campaign should do it.

no ipods, no 400 dollar shoes…..communism sucks end of story.

liberal professors would only appeal to the really hardcore wealthy.

nondhimmie on September 2, 2009 at 7:36 AM

What is it about Obama was and still is a far left liberal with ties to far left radicals didn’t everyone understand when he was running? Proof that not doing your homework, naiveté and ignorance will get you (or an entire country) into trouble.

Nalea on September 2, 2009 at 7:48 AM

If you use the same word for the fairly elected 44th President of the United States and Hitler, you’ve almost completely devalued the world. I don’t see Obama rounding people up to be shot and gassed.

Glen Beck certainly seems to be a lone voice in the media these days. I watch him because the information he delivers is important and I don’t ever find those kind of stories anywhere else. However, I do believe also that the substance of his message is being dicounted by so many because of the way he delivers it. It’s ironic that the very people he would like to have listen to him more are the very ones that won’t take his reporting seriosly because he comes across as goofy….

lynncgb on September 2, 2009 at 7:57 AM

Beck is onto something. Keep pounding away Glenn. Great work exposing these kooks to our uninformed society. Eventually, they’ll “get it” and we can vote these marxists out of office.

moonbat monitor on September 2, 2009 at 8:13 AM

Wake when David Brooks, Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan, et. al. show anything in their media presentations to attempt to point out to the public what Obama and his gang of ‘advisors/czars’ are up to.

Don’t like Beck’s style?

Too bad.

Hannity freaking annoys you?

Tough luck.

Coulter is too biting and sarcastic for you?

Them’s the breaks.

Michelle Malkin to relentless and unwilling to change the subject?

Cry me a river.

We need all of them.

Like them or not.

They are all doing the job the media won’t do, even if you don’t care for HOW they do it.

I was going to post that I truly don’t understand these people…but that nauseating feeling in the pit of my stomach makes me think that maybe I really do. Was there ever a more appropriate title for this clown than czar?

Huckabye-Romney on September 2, 2009 at 8:54 AM

I fully support what Beck is doing.

He clearly knows the dangers of shining a light on these “Marxists Radicals”.
You can’t be smacking a bear cub on the back of its head constantly and not expect its mother not to take a swipe at you.
Many who have spoke up against this group have been threatened in one way or another.

The other message he knows is that most conservatives are individuals. We seldom prefer groups and we make life decisions on our own.
He recognizes we need to do this in force, and make our voices heard.

As for his presentation, it is nice not to see the typical droned out monolog from most of the news media. Watching to see if the news anchors head is going to fall off from the unnatural up, down, sideways, motion they are taught.

Enough of the, “Glenn Beck is too emotional” posts!!!

STOP IT!!

Listen, Glenn Beck is uncovering and reporting things that ought to have us screaming for answers! We should be sharing this information with any one we know and those who we don’t know!

You guys are worried about his STYLE?

Have you ever heard of the saying “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.” ?

Beck often drowns out his own message with his histrionics and makes himself the issue rather than the issues themselves.

Jones’ answer to the question on how Republicans pass legislation with less representation than Democrats was “Republicans are assholes”, followed by insisting that “We” (Obama Democrats) now have to be assholes, too.

One need only look to Reid, Pelosi, Frank, Franken et al to see how influential Mr. Jones really is.

Sucker.
So he’s just a well-meaning idealist.
You can look at the people he’s surrounded himself with and say that with a straight face?
People who want to suppress free speech, “queer up the schools”, impose internet shutdowns, whose goals are “equality of outcome”, who want government control of pregnancy, and on and on.
These are people he chose. These are his friends.
I’m not making this up and neither is Glenn Beck.
Next time someone runs into your theatre and yells “Fire!” make sure you criticize the tie he’s wearing rather than check for flames.

kingsjester on September 2, 2009 at 9:33 AM

Personally, I like Glenn Beck overall, in spite of his few weepy episodes. That weepy crap just makes me wince and want to reach for the remote.

The message is larger than the speaker though, and Glenn does a lot of digging that not many take the time to do. If it weren’t for Glenn showing us the absolute dark side we’d end up with lighter versions from the likes of O’Reilly and Hannity. Now Beck makes them look a bit moderate at times, but that’s ok.

He’s entertaining to top it off. It’s not just dry delivery or preaching from a pulpit style, both of which I hate. He manages to deliver some horrifying information with a laugh or two interjected so you don’t end up freaking out completely.

Even though a couple of his offerings of government corruption have been a bit tenuous at best, the majority of it is well documented no matter how much the liberals say it’s not. I hope Beck keeps it up, and I hope more people start paying attention because this “president” is definitely not on the side of free Americans. If you think he is, then you need to get your head out of his socialist sandbox and re-educate yourself.

Spiritk9 on September 2, 2009 at 9:39 AM

I get it now. We purposely want to keep this insane subjective knit-picking of people like Beck and Palin so we can advance Conservatism. Oh yeah, makes perfect sense.

But he’ll gag them in a heartbeat my friend, the rest will come later when no one can talk about it. What Obama wants, may be in good faith ….. but it will destroy the essence of the greatest nation in history.

Take away America’s competitive spirit (with comunism-solcialism-Marxism whatever) and the country dies. We become a Mexico or Canada, but America dies. It’s all around us already. How many are comfortably at the trough already?

Whether or not you like Beck’s style, he does get people’s attention and, right now, this is the name of the game. Give him credit for this.

jeanie on September 2, 2009 at 9:50 AM

I think that people who can not see that the country is folding into the plan of Hitler is a good example of what has been going on in schools for the last 20 years. Why is it that history is not taught in its entirety, because history is not on the state tests! We have made the nation dumber by changing curriculum so they can barely pass. People read about Hitler and learn. Take over everything and control everyone. Then as a government you get to decide how to delegate things and where the money would best be spent. Beck is a person that read a little history something kids have not been taught for the last 20 or so years in public school.

Glen Beck is the White race hustler.

Attacking Beck is the usual leftist tactic of shooting the messenger. The key to the Obama/Jeremiah Wright/Jesse Jackson brand of race hustle is for non-racist white people to play along with their racist accusations and shut up. That’s shat the Van Jones boycott is all about. Beck is an uppity white boy who must be put in his place.

Don’t get me wrong. Nobody is singling Obama out as our only racist President. Teddy Roosevelt was incredibly prejudiced, as were others like Andrew Jackson. But just because Obama is black doesn’t mean Beck’s analysis of his animus toward typical white people (especially police officers) wasn’t spot on.

Glenn Beck is a White Al Sharpton.
