Oh my: New Zogby poll shows Obama’s approval at … 42%

posted at 8:31 pm on August 31, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s not quite as bad as it looks, but it’s plenty bad. Since last month, he’s down 13 points among Democrats, nine points among liberals, and 18 points among voters 18 to 29.

No public option, no peace?

Pollster John Zogby: President Obama is now firmly between a rock and a hard place. Democrats want a strong healthcare reform bill with a public option. Republicans and more conservative Democrats do not agree. If Obama fails to get a bill that his base supporters want, the entire Democratic Party risks alienating them; especially 18-29-year-old First Globals, who could very quickly become disenchanted with politics. Obama needs to enter the fray in a very public way, which may mean knocking heads with both wings of his own party.

He’s actually up slightly among likely voters in the last 10 days — coincidentally, while he’s been on vacation and off the television screen — but it’s the monthly trend that’s an eye-popper. Doesn’t this foretell a shift left, to win back Democrats, when he finally returns to D.C.? He’s already lost any little amount of trust conservatives and right-leaning independents might ever have had in him; just too much government, too soon, and no compromise “health-care co-op” is going to change that. All it’ll do is leave the left feeling they can’t trust him either, which means no money or organization next year and no one except wary centrists even somewhat pleased with health care. The smartest available move, it seems increasingly to me, is to push for a public option, make the left happy, and then throw the full weight of your propaganda machine into convincing centrists before the midterms that government health care is a genius idea. Sure, it’ll mean sacrificing a few Blue Dog seats to the GOP next year, but it looks like that’s a fait accompli anyway. And even if Republicans take back the House, they won’t have a veto-proof majority (or even control of the Senate) that they’d need to repeal ObamaCare, so the deed will be done. If you’re Barry O, you might as well get what you want, keep part of the public excited about you, and take your chances.

Just as knuckleheads like afrolib can’t understand or believe how blacks can be bigoted towards other blacks, they can’t see how whites can criticize obama(pbuh) apart from his race. Liberalism denies truth in any area that it’s practiced be it race, politics, religion, or whatever.

So Obama should be strong and fight for his health care plan ……..

Most of the devastation was wreaked by the Congressional Budget Office, which on Tuesday reported that draft legislation from the Senate Finance Committee would increase the federal deficit by more than $1.6 trillion over the next decade while only partly denting the population of the uninsured. The details haven’t been made public, but the short version seems to be that President Obama’s health boondoggle prescribes vast new spending without a coherent plan to pay for it even while failing to meet its own standards for social equity.

Yep that would be smart. Damn AfroLib you are an idiot

Wait a minute, Jackson
Let me get this straight:
24/7 non-stop media adoration of this moron. Nothing but swooning coverage and abject disdain towards Sarah, and a lesser degree, McLame.
McLame continuously shooting his own campaign in the foot.
Hollywood and television programs with not too subtle hints of ‘change you can believe in’ horseshit.
Years of government indoctrination of children leading up to this point.
‘White guilt’.
Couple that with red-faced Bush hatred from the dumbocrats and media for the last eight years.
And this fool wins only 53% of the vote?
Not exactly a Reagan landslide, dilweed.

Don’t mean to join the dog pile on you but in a comment about 30 minutes ago you said something about the “tired old ideas of tax cuts for the rich” to which I have to ask, have you seen the IRS data about who actually pays what in this country? About 45% of American workers pay no income taxes, the top 5% pay over half of all income taxes so when taxes are cut, just who is there to benefit? Those that don’t pay can’t benefit.

Progressivism isn’t “fair” as the Left claims because it basically says that those that achieve must pay a penalty to those that don’t or won’t. What is fair about that?

Fair is ALL Americans paying income taxes. The Founding generation fought a war over taxation without representation, what you advocate is representation without taxation.

In your world view if 10 poor people vote to take the house of one wealthy person they win because they have the votes.

Marx said “from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs”. That basically makes one man the economic slave of another man.

I didn’t go to college and then grad school to get a good job in order to have even more of m y income seized and given to someone else.

Progressivism is a pernicious evil.

Add one other BIG IF there Sapwolf. That is IF we can bypass the lamestream media effectively and get the word out.

I was at a pro gun rally about 15 years ago in harrisburg. We had 10,000 people on the capitol steps, half of them legally armed. That is a half a division’s worth of people. (I know, not a half a division of combat stregnth). Anyway, the radio was carrying a story about 25 people visiting senator snotheads office for homeless rights and they ignored the 10,000 people. Same with the toilet papers… er local newspapers.

More recently I went to a tea party where about 1000 showed up. Same crap, the philadelphia party organs, er media, covered a homeless protest in center city with about 20 people and ignored the thousand people in Bucks COunty.

What we need to do is have some smart people co-ordinate a hell of a lot of video messaging, picture messaging, live blogging, streaming video etc. OTherwise, it will be like those folks airbrushed out of the old Soviet Pictures.

http://radioviceonline.com/battleground-poll-results-59-percent-very-or-somewhat-conservative/

The Terrance Group and Lake Research Partners recently released the results for the George Washington University Battleground Poll taken in July. The fall 2008 results showed 57 percent considered themselves very conservative or somewhat conservative. July 2009 results show a 2 point jump to 59 percent. We remain a pretty conservative country

Because we’re a mostly conservative nation, that’s why. The nation doesn’t want liberalism, but sometimes we forget how bad liberalism is and elect it anyway – because when liberals aren’t in power, they talk nice but don’t do any harm.

It’s like a woman with a dirtbag boyfriend. She dumps him because he’s a dirtbag and when he’s powerless to hurt her, she starts listening to him. When she finally takes him back, he goes back to who he is, and she dumps him again. Except this is cyclical, because each generation has to learn – if they don’t honor Santayana and learn from the past (which is why liberals got into education – to take over – Ayers, Pliven, etc. even said so – a “long march” through education to brainwash students into liberal thinking).

Ye of little faith. Williars, gain it from your friends and neighbors and know this:

They are going to – if they haven’t already – OVERREACH

And then, I don’t know it could turn into another Government run catastrophe, or a faint fart before they capitulate. I’m ready for either.

The Dems are done.

Thank you. How else can I better describe my absolute distain for farging liberals. Here I thought all my life being dedicated to the military (which liberals hate) was a manner to show my love for my country. Here all along I was supposed to just cough up more bucks and more bucks for someone “more unfortunate than me.”

Hey, how about this? You “less fortunate” MFers get off your GD fat asses and try a little harder. Quit looking to the government for every need, every want and everything you see as an entitlement. How much more of our lives do we sacrifice for those unwilling to even try? How much of my blood, sweat and tears needs to be robbed from me every two weeks from my pay to support lazy people who are unwilling to take responsibility for themselves but are willing to live a life of dependence from elected officials and through the toil of others. Why do you “deserve” the fruits of my hard labor?

This is off the subject so I apologize…but I wanted to get the word out (since I don’t see anything about boycotting). I will NEVER be taking another Royal Caribbean cruise again. 1 – they aren’t very good. 2 – at least RC 3 executives are members of NPN (National Professionals Network).

I have NEVER met a more arrogant smug group in my entire life, and they are big Obummer supporters. Even the French hated that group!! They broke every rule (including wearing Obama shirts to formal night, and they weren’t thrown out) and treated us (white people) badly. The entire ship (crew and passengers) couldn’t stand them and wanted them to leave the group (a very LARGE group – over 50% of the ship) at any of the ports.

Select any other cruiseline than RC, and let RC know why. I had the great misfortune of meeting these pompous asses…one who ran Social Security and thought it was the best run operation ever. This was a big reminder that we need to CLEAN HOUSE in ALL AGENCIES.

This will be great to watch, too, I can’t wait for Nancy Pelosi and Obama to stand before the microphone like Bagdad Bob, claiming control and support of the majority, while the “un-American hate-mongers” of the 9/12 project are right across the street. It’ll be sweet. If I had the money, I’d be there myself.

tpitman on September 1, 2009 at 6:31 AM

The smartest available move, it seems increasingly to me, is to push for a public option, make the left happy, and then throw the full weight of your propaganda machine into convincing centrists before the midterms that government health care is a genius idea.

You do understand if it backfires the Democratic caucus will collapse in on itself and Obama will be paralyzed in regards to domestic legislation until after the mid-terms.

rob verdi on September 1, 2009 at 6:37 AM

by the way 18-29 years olds have no idea what health care reform actually is.

Afrolib on August 31, 2009 at 10:22 PM

Well, I might as well pile on too.. What you are talking about, in the conservative world, is called “charity”. You see, people with “freedom” are allowed to “chose” which of their fellow less-fortunate citizens they want to share their wealth with. This way they can be sure that the wealth they are distributing is going directly to the causes and people to whom are most deserving and can have the greatest impact. Government does not ask or allow the freedom to help those who are less fortunate. Government takes, under penalty of law, and gives the money to whomever or whatever it deems most needy, regardless of whether you agree. That is not freedom. And it is not charity. So to ask if the wealthy can give a little more is a legitimate question. But you are saying that we shouldn’t complain when the government takes more. A completely different proposition.

drocity on September 1, 2009 at 6:51 AM

If you’re Barry O, you might as well get what you want, keep part of the public excited about you, and take your chances.

Chances are right. It would be a chance. The GOP might not be able to get that majority in 2010, but what about 2012? The plan will not completely go into effect until then anyway. If people are angry enough at being completely ignored by the Democrats…might they not just throw them all out then and repeal a lot of this stuff?

The base might ought to stop and consider that the people are not going to like this.

Bush went with the surge in spite of the public opinion, but at least that was Constitutional and fell well within his rights as Commander in Chief. I am not so sure the same could be said of Obamacare.

Are these the people who claim they care about other people?

Afrolib on August 31, 2009 at 10:22 PM

I have no problem helping others less fortunate to HELP THEMSELVES. However, when you have multiple generations that have never held a job, I tend to not feel so generous. I understand the problem wasn’t caused by them but by government policies designed to pander to them to get their vote.

The solution is simple… if you don’t pay taxes, you are living on the charity of all the others. While not paying taxes, you don’t vote.

As for the 42%? Hmmmm… they must have oversampled KOS and DU.

Don’t mean to join the dog pile on you but in a comment about 30 minutes ago you said something about the “tired old ideas of tax cuts for the rich” to which I have to ask, have you seen the IRS data about who actually pays what in this country?

If only the rich got tax cuts as afrodweeb believes, why has Obama said he will keep the Bush tax cuts in place for those making less than $250,000? How can he leave tax cuts in place that, according to afrodweeb(and most libs, including Obama) were never there?

And if it was only tax cuts for the rich, how come many poor were taken off the tax roles altogether after the so-called Bush “tax cuts for the rich”?

It sux to be a self-loathing lib. How you folks manage to get through each day without slitting your wrists is beyond me. And it has to be even worse to be a black self-loathing lib. I mean, damn, you guys bow at the alter of the party of slavery. How f’d up is that?

I didn’t go through all the comments, but this one caught my eye-

Such typical lib B.S.; It’s up to people who make the effort in life to carry the losers on their backs. Sorry, but I’ll choose who and what I want to contribute to. If I had the courage to put myself through school, (on the six year plan, thank you very much) and struggle with nothing for several years, and put off having children and buying houses and cars until I could afford them, so can everyone else.

To all the self rightous libs out there: If you want to carry the losers, you go right ahead, but stop insisting I do it too.

It’s the deficit. His popularity will slide because of the stimulus bill that really wasn’t a stimulus bill at all.

A lot of governors who objected to taking the money will be rewarded soon. What they warned about is very likely to happen, as DC starts yanking the chains.
