Meanwhile, Toyota is closing the last automobile manufacturing plant on the West Coast, the NUMMI plant that it shared with General Motors. GM’s new masters in Washington pulled the plug on NUMMI, and Toyota could not take on the crushing cost of doing business in California and employing UAW workers.
