Many of us contend that the State cannot restrict constitutional rights on public property without legislation. This is why you are starting to see townhalls held at union-owned and other private venues. You absolutely can restrict who attends and what may be brought inside a privately owned facility.

Townhalls held at schools or any other sort of public building absolutely can not be restricted to entry, nor can they ban signs and posters.

As second amendment advocates, many have been working across Virginia to exercise the right to protect themselves at all times. Many “public-private” partnerships are being looked at as to their attempts to restrict constitutional rights. Think certain shopping malls or sports arenas.

IMHO, a town hall meeting by invitation only is an oxymoron.

They’ll probably say that this is just another time, place, and manner restriction passing constitutional muster.

Great idea–especially since we are not “professional” community organizers! We need a handbook–oh wait, forgot there is one by that guy–what’s-his-face–Saul Alinsky or something…
Seriously, we probably really should familiarize ourselves with the local laws about unlawful assembly and such. Never know when it will come in handy…
