Surprise: ABC, NBC won’t air anti-ObamaCare ad

posted at 6:05 pm on August 27, 2009 by Allahpundit

Actually, there is a surprise. For once, it’s not NBC that’s the guiltiest party here.

“The ABC Television Network has a long-standing policy that we do not sell time for advertising that presents a partisan position on a controversial public issue,” spokeswoman Susan Sewell said in a written statement. “Just to be clear, this is a policy for the entire network, not just ABC News.”

NBC, meanwhile, said it has not turned down the ad and will reconsider it with some revisions.

“We have not rejected the ad,” spokeswoman Liz Fischer told FOXNews.com. “We have communicated with the media agency about some factual claims that require additional substantiation. As always, we are happy to reconsider the ad once these issues are addressed.”

Adams objects to ABC’s assertion that his group’s position is partisan.

I’m curious to know which facts NBC thinks are in dispute. Cuts to Medicare, which even some Democrats are now hinting at? Rationing in Britain, on the heels of yesterday’s report about pregnant women being turned away from maternity wards? A crisis in Canadian health care, whose own administrators are calling for massive reforms even while they’re busy shipping patients across the border to the United States for treatment?

At least they’re willing to consider the ad. What’s ABC’s excuse for torpedoing this after giving Obama an hour-long primetime infomercial at which no Republican pols were permitted to appear? The “partisan” excuse is idiotic: The ad’s not being sponsored by a party; concerns about many aspects of ObamaCare (although perhaps not cost) cut across party lines to a significant degree; and if things go according to plan in Massachusetts, the Dems will soon once again have a filibuster-proof majority, leaving the opposition party essentially locked out of the debate. How deeply invested are they in this travesty passing that they won’t even take money from people seeking to balance their “news” commercials for The One with a paid ad?

My questions is…what is their collective market share anyway? They are shrinking constantly…to the point where NBC caters to it’s niche ‘nut roots’ crowd…and I guess ABC wants a piece of that exclusive action. Air it on FOX and to hell with they lefty MSM.

Yet somehow they broadcast Obama’s, Pelosi’s and Reid’s lies without any “additional substantiation”.

Second, Fox hasn’t turned down the ad. The article says talks are “ongoing”, while CBS has approved the ad for a run.

Did ABC ever run any ads from the DNC or RNC? Did they ever run ads during the Presidential election approved by either candidate? If yes to either question, it seems like they have never had a policy of not running partisan ads on controversial political issues. Unless an ad by either the DNC, RNC, or a Presidential candidate would not be considered “partisan…” Maybe it is not a “controversial political issue…” That can’t be true either when one recalls the ads which attacked either candidate involving issues the other candidate did or did not support. Did ABC never run any of those? Something seems fishy here. Too bad flag@whitehouse.gov is no longer operating.

NBC, meanwhile, said it has not turned down the ad and will reconsider it with some revisions.

I have a better idea: file actions with the FCC to suspend the broadcast licenses to each, every and all ABC, NBC and any other broadcasters and affiliates who refuse to run the ads, unaltered, in-toto, during the (assumed prime-time) slots.

The airwaves are public property. It is not for the broadcasters to accept or reject political ads that meet all other criteria, simply because the broadcasters disagree with the message / beliefs.

Shut down the broadcasters (and their revenue stream) for a few days, and they’ll behave.

The airwaves are public property. It is not for the broadcasters to accept or reject political ads that meet all other criteria, simply because the broadcasters disagree with the message / beliefs.

Shut down the broadcasters (and their revenue stream) for a few days, and they’ll behave.

I see you didn’t watch Beck with Limbaugh yesterday either. Our new “Diversity Czar” wants a 100% tax on all profits from media outlets.

“The ABC Television Network has a long-standing policy that we do not sell time for advertising that presents a partisan position on a controversial public issue,”

That is almost funny. Almost.
Too bad there wasn’t something we could do to take back the media.
Oops,, did I use use a codeword??

It is good to see City Journal cited at the end of the commercial. It is one of the best journals out there, and like the Manhattan Institute that publishes it, really punches above its weight.

I saw Obama’s ad last night. As his voice claims that his opponents are playing on our fears, an ambulance is blocked off by trucks, no matter which route it attempts, blocked off, unable to deliver a patient to medical care.

Sheesh

Notice the two liberal trolls posted just a couple of “hot” posts, then ran…really no reason to respond to them.
Just, Allahpundit, take note of their “hit and run” tactics, after awhile it gets tiresome…and they learn just what to post not to be banned, but enough to try and hi-jack the thread and disrupt some good postings.

Off topic: I was able to convince 2 conservatives on the job today to approve of the public option. What a good debate we had. One thing liberals do best is out debate conservatives.

I hate to break it to you, but when someone rolls their eyes and says, “whatever” — you haven’t convinced anyone.

What a good masterbate I had. One thing liberals do best is out masterbate conservatives.

Afrolib on August 27, 2009 at 6:28 PM

Sorry, I can’t argue with that.
