Quotes of the day
posted at 10:52 pm on August 27, 2009 by Allahpundit
“So with the death of Ted Kennedy last night, liberalism in this country has lost its champion; the person who, in the modern era, personified liberalism to a greater degree than anyone in Congress; I think that his death heralds the beginning of a very, very very dark period in this country.
I remember feeling that way in 1963 and in 1968-when his two brothers were murdered by the right wing in this country.”
***
“We don’t know how much Kennedy was affected by her death, or what she’d have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history. What we don’t know, as always, could fill a Metrodome.
Still, ignorance doesn’t preclude a right to wonder. So it doesn’t automatically make someone (aka, me) a Limbaugh-loving, aerial-wolf-hunting NRA troll for asking what Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted’s death, and what she’d have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded.
Who knows — maybe she’d feel it was worth it.”

Reading the HuffPo sh*t is like listening to an abused woman say “he really loves me and he’s a good guy” while her lips are bleeding and she’s blind from two black eyes.
It’s like all they know are liars and abusers. And they certainly love their “charming liars”.
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/21/oh-my-obama-being-called-a-fascist-now-on-air-america/
…
Seriously, it’s sick. They enjoy being lied to because they don’t know the truth, and never get it. So they take well-delivered lies and enjoy them, because that’s the best they can get without making a break from the left. And to make that break, they have to acknowledge they’ve been fools all this time, and that’s a large part of one’s self-esteem to disavow.
…
It’s like the abused woman who doesn’t know what love is, so she embraces her abuser closer until she’s destroyed.
CPL 310 on August 28, 2009 at 12:21 AM
It all comes down to definitions.
The left likes a political spectrum where fascists are far right and communists far left. On such a spectrum, well, yes, go far enough to one extreme and you can’t tell the difference from the other.
This spectrum makes no sense though since it has no room for libertarianism, and doesn’t place conservatives correctly within the band reserved for them – namely small government conservatives are closer to fascism then big government moderate conservatives.
The more accurate spectrum has libertarianism as the far right and communism as the far left;
communism-fascism-Euroliberalism-Americanliberalism-centerism-conservatism-libertarianism
With this spectrum obviously you have no wrap around, and you can place American conservatives and liberals.

Newsflash… compared to Oswald and Sirhan, Bob and jack Kennedy were the right-wing.
JohnGalt23 on August 28, 2009 at 12:28 AM
No, no, no, no, no.
Never do you get something so far left it’s right or so far right it’s left. You don’t get so fat you’re thin nor have a car so slow it’s fast. That’s idiotic.
You don’t go from conservative-libertarian-constitutionalist to leftist-socialist. National socialists and international socialists – communists – are in the same tyranny block. Fascists just work a little different from communist totalitarians.
There’s no “boot stamping on a human face forever” from somebody who believes in “don’t tread on me” as a motto. That’s bloody absurd, and perpetuated by those who want to excuse the tyrannical leftist claims.
Also note that American right requires adherence to Constitutional principles grounded in individual liberty and classic liberalism. So the hardest right you go means you want the least amount of govt. interference in anyone’s life – the antithesis of European right, which are often nativist groups desiring to preserve their collective nationalities. The US, being composed not of races but of united creed (ideally), rejects this outright – as it’s antithetical to our ideal of inclusive individualism. (Do what you want, but don’t tread on me.)
Leftists in the US want to reform the US into the same garbage Europe has – “progressive” groups that demean everyone equally and degrade both newcomer to a nation and native alike. They’re the communists and socialists and those who want to reject borgeouis in order to become the new borgeouis socialists – they covet the power, and they see the means to acheiving it in demonizing the current structure, destabilizing it, and taking it over. Like Alinksy and his terrorist cohort.

Somebody who wants government out of their life is closer to fascism (government control of life & capital) than somebody who wants big government controlling people’s lives?
“Don’t tread on me” does not mean “gimme those boots so I can tread on somebody”.
Is that a typo, or what?

CPL 310 on August 28, 2009 at 12:33 AM
I was explaining the way the political spectrum the leftists use “works”. Namely that the smaller the government the conservative wants, the closer said spectrum places him to fascism.
Fascism, of course, believes in a vast government with no limitations.
So, I belief this example shows that said spectrum doesn’t make any sense.

I think part of the reason for the confusion we see here is that in Europe there were at one point 3 general political philosophies:
Socialism/Communism – we know these ones all to well
Classical Liberalism – partly libertarian partly what we call American conservativism.
Euroconservatism/Monarchism - the belief that a self selected elite, with the best training and upbringing society can provide are needed to keep the proles in check…for their own good.
While the Euroconservatives and Socialists started out as bitter foes, but eventually the two groups settled their differences – see Bismarck’s reforms for a sterling example. In this union, these groups were able to marginalize the Classical Liberals in continental Europe.
The synthesis of these groups is modern Euroliberalism – a self selected elite controls society for nominally socialist ends with the trappings of representative government.
Generally speaking, American style conservativism is portrayed as being like Euroconservatism/Monarchism in the media and the left pretends there are no differences between the two. But let us return to those Bismarckian reforms for a moment – what did the Euroconservatives and the Socialists work together to invent? The Social Welfare State and the idea of National Health Care. Those sound like pretty clearly leftwing objectives…no?

I have to disagree. The right spins off into true anarchy (not European anarchists, who are really into collective destruction) and the left ends at totalitarianism. I see the major measure being collectivism/tribalism versus individualism, on the domestic issues. Europe has always been very tribal, so their domestic scale slides along collectivist issues, mostly, as with our left.

Hawkins1701 on August 28, 2009 at 1:42 AM
“Worth it” implies some kind of trade off. Whatever you think of Kennedy as a Senator, what could he possibly have accomplished in his life that was only possible because he got tanked, drove his car into the water, and left his one night stand to drown to death without trying to save her life? There is no “worth it” in this scenario.
What an insanely stupid thing to write. What makes it even a little worse, if that is possible, is that these are the people that don’t think it is worth it to pull a few fingernails, do a little waterboarding, stage a few mock executions, heck even lie to a few terrorists, if it will save a few lives. Even a few hundred lives. Heck, a few thousand and still not “worth it”.
Maybe we should stage the torture debate a different way. Instead of saying it might save a few proles lives, we need to ask if it will be worth it to get some information if a saved a few dozen of their favorite liberal Congressmen and Senator’s lives.

The conspiracy theorists’ mind is desperate to pigeonhole reality to pre-concieved notions they hold. They grabbed at whatever sounded plausible first and with every refutation they try to find a swizzle stick.
Not to harp on Tedster but let’s analyze the reality of what happened to JFK.
The liberal narrative is that wealthy Texas oil men and the mafia conspired with CIA to kill Prince Valiant before he could withdraw US troops from Vietnam….
literally none of that has a shred of evidence that outweighs the reality that surrounds the marxist-socialist who shot Ted’s brother….
ironically Tedster’s politics were closer to Oswald’s than JFK’s……

sven10077 on August 28, 2009 at 6:17 AM
First I’ve heard LBJ called the right-wing, Mr. Malloy.
sven10077 “surreal” for real.
This is rich, “The liberal narrative is that wealthy Texas oil men”–of course, progressives lead off by cursing the EVIL OIL MEN /cough. By their own free will, Jack and Bobby made campaign deals with the mafia, and then rather than bounty up, Bobby federally investigated them. As per “before he could withdraw US troops from Vietnam” that would make Jack just another Massachusetts Leftist flip-flopper, being the one who initially CHOSE to push us into VietNam even when France pulled out.
Back to bad seed Teddy, evidently he loved to joke about Chappaquiddick at Mary Jo’s expense.

I didn’t know Ted Kennedy even remotely – only what I read or saw on tv. He may have been the outgoing, back slapping, jovial, funloving man many make him out to be. He may even have been as spiritual and God fearing as others make him out to be. Only God knows his heart.
What I do know though does not conjure up images of respect, honesty, benevolence, charity, love, sound character, soberness or integrity. His was a legacy of cheating, involvement in the death of a young woman under suspect circumstances, a culture of death in his promotion of abortion, his advancement of an abominable life-style (both of which are contrary to his supposed spirtiualness and his Church’s teachings), unleashing a flood of illegal immigration upon this country, the waste of untold tax dollars on pork projects for his home state, and other sundry efforts while a US Senator.
The life he lived isn’t worthy of being memorialized let alone recommeding it be emulated by those coming after.
No, I don’t mourn his loss. He met the same fate all of us will meet and thus, deserves no special acclamation or current legislation being foisted upon us passed in his honor.
May his soul be at rest in heaven because it it isn’t, he’s got the memories of forty million plus innocents that have had their lives snuffed out due in part to Senator Kennedy’s efforts and the face of Mary Jo Kopechne reminding him of his deeds while on this earth for an eternity.

The universe is infinite, after all. Once you reach the edge, do you fall off? Not according to Relativity and Astrophysics. The view is just different.
On the other hand, it takes a few BILLION light years just to get to that edge. Just like the difference between Right and Left, correct and incorrect, up and down, Right and Wrong. Imagine how far one has to travel to get to the correct side from the incorrect side. And faster than light travel has not been invented, just like moral compasses for the Left, brains in jihadists, Truth in newspapers and TV, or true intelligence in trolls and flatworms. Do politicians require that at least one midget with a video camera follow them around in order to get that “Looking up at the Giant” footage and archive it until the “giant” goes tits up?
In all the various vids of T.Ken that have been shown in the last few days, I saw a couple of these. The one that made me wonder about the midgets was a few feet of footage of TK in these later years..not lookin all that healthy. It was evening and the light was harsh..he had a somewhat dazed and unaware look to him. His jowls and face flaps took on some shadows that only sharp angles can produce..and what struck my mind, was how much he looked like Godzilla, unselfconsciously tromping through a Japanese city squashing fleeing and screaming bystanders with his huge lizard feet.
It really looked like that to me. Does anyone know for sure if theres any validity to the “Midget archivers” legend?
